  • practicing C over the summer

    Hi, I'm a student with a bit of experience in Java and C++ (one semester each) Currently, I'm going through K&R and working on the exercises in the book. However, I was thinking of what I could work on over the summer since I'm almost done with K&R and I will have a lot of free time soon. I really like building command line applications so I was thinking of getting involved with the coreutils project somehow. My question is, is it too early for me to be messing with coreutils? Should I be working on something a bit simpler perhaps? I'm a bit new with the Linux/Open source world if that matters but I'm really enjoying it. I've done some project euler problems and I don't really like it that much.

  • Help me plan larger Qt project

    I'm trying to create an automated task management system for our company, because they pay me to waste my time. New users will create a "profile", which will store all the working data (I guess serialize everything into xml rite?). A "profile" will contain many different tasks. Tasks are basically just standard computer janitor crap such as moving around files, reading/writing to databases, pinging servers, etc.). So as you can see, a task has many different jobs they do, and also that tasks should run indefinitely as long as the user somehow generates "jobs" for them. There should also be a way to enable/disable (start/pause) tasks. They say create the UI first so... I figure the best way to represent this is with a list-view widget, that lists all the tasks in the profile. Enabled tasks will be bold, disabled will be then when you double-click a task, a tab in the main view opens with all the settings, output, errors,. You can right click a task in the list-view to enable/disable/etc. So each task will be a closable tab, but when you close it just hides. My question is: should I extend from QAction and QTabWidget so I can easily drop tasks in and out of my list-view and tab bar? I'm thinking some way to make this plugin-based, since a lot of the plugins may share similar settings (like some of the same options, but different infos are input). Also, what's the best way to set up threading for this application?

  • C# update DLL without recompiling the project

    hi .. i have written a small program with a reference to a dll file that will be included in the setup file. what i still need is a way to update the dll (in case i change some functions), without the need to redownload the whole program again, just replace the dll file ... is this possible ? i just read somewhere that i have to update the xml file with the new dll version, but i really need the full steps to update the dll sucessfully .. any help is really appreciated.. thanks a lot

The program should generate questions that vary on each run of the test, and it should grade the test after someone takes it. (I found out recently that there's a system that can do some of the tasks already, but I don't think many people know how to use it) What type of research could be involved? URL:" I want to know how to get the actual status code and message in fault event.

I have tried initializing a variable in the index method of the books controller but get exactly the same results. Thanks in advance! BTW had to make the links text because of stackoverflow limit.

If he chooses the right answer he gets some points, if he doesn't, he looses them.   • Visual Studio 2008 - Assemblies are not loaded into Modules after relocating the website and project

    I recently moved the asp.net website solution folder (along with class projects) to different location. As the result, visual studio doesn't stop at break points, and I could not able to debug. I see none of my assemblies at Debug Windows Modules; only microsoft assemblies are loaded. I have also deleted all bin folder and re-referenced all projects. But still no luck. Thanks in advance!

    I know this isn't a question about a specific snippet of code or anything, but here goes - I've been messing around with the idea of learning Python since I'm pretty bored with PHP (and web development in general), but I can't think of any projects to help me learn. I've already worked through some of Project Euler with Python, but it's getting old. I know the basics, and I want to write something more fun that will introduce me to new things in Python. Is there a cliche beginner project for Python? (for example, PHP's would be a blog or something similiar) Are there any common Python projects for newcomers, or any uncommon ones that you'd suggest?     We're transitioning to an automated build process for our iphone projects. These projects can be checked out by individual devs, in which case all the API URLs need to point to a certain path. There are also a variety of build environments, each with their own API root paths. I could probably add multiple, different build targets, and have each of them include a different URLs definition file, but this seems like a lot of upkeep and a bit overkill. Any best practices out there for swapping a few environmental variables for different build environments without much fuss?

    Hi, I am doing this iPhone app that works fine on the simulator. However, when I run it on a device in debug mode, it just crash without any error messages. How can I debug that? I heard about a flag we can set to help with this kind of situation but not sure what that flag is and how to set it.     I've been using the MSDN Library to create semaphores, located at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.threading.semaphore.aspx However, the examples are using Managed code (requires /clr), and I need to use Unmanaged code because FreeType doesn't like working with Managed code it seems.     Recently, I was going around looking for ideas on what I can build using C this summer and I came across this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1257376/interesting-project-to-learn-c Implement a programming language. This doesn't have to be terribly hard - I did the language that must not be named - but it will force you to learn a lot of the important parts of C. If you don't want to write a lexer and/or parser yourself, you can use lex/flex and yacc/bison, but if you plan on that you might want to start with a somewhat smaller project. I was kinda intrigued about the implementing a programming language answer and I'm wondering how do I go about starting this? I've gone through the whole K&R book and I've done some of the exercises as well. I also have a bit of experience in C++ and Java if that matters. Any tips? Thanks!
