• Passing a variable to javascript via a link.

  My website has a javascript variable (addselectedsubdivision) that loads a neighborhood name from a box on the left to a box on the right. I was hoping I could build a link and then us PHP to add the subdivision letter, neighborhood, and city so that when you click on the link it goes right to this page and loads the neighborhood name in the box on the right. However, I can't get the variable to pass to the new page. Any suggestions?   Hi, I would like to go through a table and look for a word, if that word appears, i would like to click on a radio button in the same row, but not the same column, then stop the loop.   Hi I have enabled mod_rewrite in my Xampp apache. When I run my php info page, I saw mod_rewrite under Loaded Modules. So I think it's enabled. Then I create a folder clean-url under htdocs. Inside clean-url folder I have 3 files 1) index.php here I put Welcome 2) Test. php 3) .htaccess Here I put RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^([a-z]+)/([a-z-]+)$ /$1/$2.php [L] I want to run the index page, and by clicking on that hyper link I want to display the test.php page with URL mydomain/clean-url/test I know I am in a wrong path. Does any one help me? Or correct me? ALso i don't know any idea about url rewriting and .htaccess. Please help me.

  I have a site that has certain urls that point to pages with permanent data and others that point to dynamic web pages. Google indexes both these regularly. By the time a user finds one of the dynamic content urls, the data on the page has already changed and the user does not find what he was looking for. Further, the dynamic url pages contains links to the permanent urls (which I want Google or any crawler to index). Google crawler controls (webmaster tools) cannot be made to read urls from a page but not index them. Solutions? crawling strategies *system architecture*.

  I have a simple SEO task. There's a City model and a Brand model, and I have to create 1st-level URLs for both (e.g. site.com/honda and site.com/boston). What's the preferred routing/controller combination to do this in Rails? I can only think of map.connect '/:id', :controller => 'catchall', :action => 'index' class CatchallController < ApplicationController def index if City.exists?(:slug => params[:id]) @city = City.find_by_slug!(params[:id]) render 'cities/show' else @brand = Brand.find_by_slug!(params[:id]) render 'brands/show' end end end but it seems to be very un-Rails to put such logic into the controller. (Obviously I need to make sure that the slugs don't overlap in the models, that's done).

  Hi I don't know the correct words for what I'm trying to find out about and as such having a hard time googling. I want to know whether its possible with databases (technology independent but would be interested to hear whether its possible with Oracle, MySQL and Postgres) to point to specific rows instead of executing my query again. So I might initially execute a query find some rows of interest and then wish to avoid searching for them again by having a list of pointers or some other metadata which indicates the location on a database which I can go to straight away the next time I want those results. I realise there is caching on databases, but I want to keep these "pointers" else where and as such caching doesn't ultimately solve this problem. Is this just an index and I store the index and look up by this? most of my current tables don't have indexes and I don't want the speed decrease that sometimes comes with indexes. So whats the magic term I've been trying to put into google? Cheers

So for for-loops and if-statements i have to have braces, even though i only want to span one line. Furthermore there is more i have to change if i want to use a Javascript Library like underscore.js. The .htaccess at the /forum subdirectory contains this: RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /forum RewriteRule ^index.html$ index.php [L,NE] RewriteRule ^(.*)-t-([0-9]+).html(.*)$ showthread.php?tid=$2$3 [QSA,L] RewriteRule ^(.*)-t-([0-9]+)-([0-9]+).html$ showthread.php?tid=$2&page=$3 [QSA,L] followed by other rules mapping SEO-friendly URLs to the true URLs. mydomain.com/forum/a-thread-t-1.html returns the page showthread.php?tid=1 but so does mydomain.com/forum/forum/a-thread-t-1.html, mydomain.com/forum/forum/forum/a-thread-t-1.html and so on. I don't want this behavior - I want pages accessed as /forum/forum/* to return a 404. Any hint on where I had been wrong?

  I've a Html page index.htm which has an iframe to page search.htm the search.htm has code like this function executeSearch() { window.parent.location = "/SearchResults.aspx?t=" + txt_Search.value; } this code executed now from index.htm page and it works great on IE and Chrome, but not FireFox ... is there any work around ?? I tried window.parent.location.href, window.opener.location, window.parent.document.location ... but nothing of those worked. after searching the web i found some one with similar prob he said that this is a security settings in Firefox ... is this true?? and if so is there any workaround ?

  I want to make following function: 1)input is a number. 2)functions are indexed, return a function whose index matches given number here's what I came up with: def foo_selector(whatfoo): def foo1(): return def foo2(): return def foo3(): return ... def foo999(): return #something like return foo[whatfoo] the problem is, how can I index the functions (foo#)? I can see functions foo1 to foo999 by dir(). however, dir() returns name of such functions, not the functions themselves. In the example, those foo-functions aren't doing anything. However in my program they perform different tasks and I can't automatically generate them. I write them myself, and have to return them by their name.

• Why is Postgres doing a Hash in this query?

  I have two tables: A and P. I want to get information out of all rows in A whose id is in a temporary table I created, tmp_ids. However, there is additional information about A in the P table, foo, and I want to get this info as well. I have the following query: SELECT A.H_id AS hid, A.id AS aid, P.foo, A.pos, A.size FROM tmp_ids, P, A WHERE tmp_ids.id = A.H_id AND P.id = A.P_id I noticed it going slowly, and when I asked Postgres to explain, I noticed that it combines tmp_ids with an index on A I created for H_id with a nested loop. However, it hashes all of P before doing a Hash join with the result of the first merge. P is quite large and I think this is what's taking all the time. Why would it create a hash there? P.id is P's primary key, and A.P_id has an index of its own.

This work for '/index' and '/login' paths. But I'm getting 404 response for '/static/login' when invoked from the browser. I'm expecting that '/static/login/' and '/login' should behave the same. What could be wrong here? Would appreciate any help. Thanks!

The first name is the commonly known CGI variable name while the second is the appropriate counterpart of REQUEST_URI (which contains the value of the uri field of request_rec). Anyone can figure out why? Appreciate!

I have an ArrayList of custom objects that have the following properties: FileName FilePath CurrentFolder TopLevelFolder I then need to do a BinarySearch (or some other quick search) on the FileName property on all the objects in the ArrayList in .NET. In other words, I need to find the object in the ArrayList with the same FileName as the one I'm searching on. • How to make windows media player go to previous song in playlist?

  Hi, everyone! I am writing a simple Windows app in c++, that will be able to send commands to windows media player. My problem is that I want my app to move to the previous song in the playlist. IWMPControls::previous() seems to do the job, but its behavior differs from what is written in msdn. In fact this function rewinds current media to the beginning and then (if current position is less than 2-3 seconds) it switches to the previous song. I would like to implement two different buttons (please, don't ask me why :)) - one for rewinding to the beginning, and one - to moving to previous song. Is there any easy way to do this through IWMPControls (or any other WMP-related COM interface)? p.s. I could handle this if I could get the position (index) of the current song in the list. But as far as I read MSDN, it seems to me that there is no easy way to get the current item index from playlist...

  I've taken a look into OpenJDK's sources of CopyOnWriteArrayList and it seems that all write operations are protected by the same lock and read operations are not protected at all. As I understand, under JMM all accesses to a variable (both read and write) should be protected by lock or reordering effects may occur. For example, set(int, E) method contains these lines (under lock): /* 1 */ int len = elements.length; /* 2 */ Object[] newElements = Arrays.copyOf(elements, len); /* 3 */ newElements[index] = element; /* 4 */ setArray(newElements); The get(int) method, on the other hand, only does return get(getArray(), index);. In my understanding of JMM, this means that get may observe the array in an inconsistent state if statements 1-4 are reordered like 1-2(new)-4-2(copyOf)-3. Do I understand JMM incorrectly or is there any other explanations on why CopyOnWriteArrayList is thread-safe?

• How to verify if two tables have exactly the same data?

  Basically we have one table (original table) and it is backed up into another table (backup table); thus the two tables have exactly the same schema. At the beginning both tables (original table and backup table) contains exactly the same set of data. After sometime for some reason I need to verify whether dataset in the original table has changed or not. In order to do this I have to compare the dataset in the original table against the backup table. Let's say the original table has the following schema: `create table LemmasMapping ( lemma1 int, lemma2 int, index ix_lemma1 using btree (lemma1), index ix_lemma2 using btree (lemma2) )` How could I achieve the dataset comparision? Update: the table does not have a primary key. It simply stores mappings between two ids.
