  (If your lazy see bottom for TL;DR) Hello, I am planning to build a new (prototype) project dealing with physical computing. Basically, I have wires. These wires all need to have their voltage read at the same time. More than a few hundred microseconds difference between the readings of each wire will completely screw it up. The Arduino takes about 114 microseconds. So the most I could read is 2 or 3 wires before the latency would skew the accuracy of the readings. So my plan is to have an Arduino as the "master" of an array of ATTinys. The arduino is pretty cramped for space, but it's a massive playground compared to the tinys. An ATTiny13A has 1k of flash ROM(program space), 64 bytes of RAM, and 64 bytes of (not-durable and slow) EEPROM. (I'm choosing this for price as well as size) The ATTinys in my system will not do much. Basically, all they will do is wait for a signal from the Master, and then read the voltage of 1 or 2 wires and store it in RAM(or possibly EEPROM if it's that cramped). And then send it to the Master using only 1 wire for data.(no room for more than that!). So far then, all I should have to do is implement trivial voltage reading code (using built in ADC). But this communication bit I'm worried about. Do you think a communication protocol(using just 1 wire!) could even be implemented in such constraints? TL;DR: In less than 1k of program space and 64 bytes of RAM(and 64 bytes of EEPROM) do you think it is possible to implement a 1 wire communication protocol? Would I need to drop to assembly to make it fit? I know that currently my Arduino programs linking to the Wiring library are over 8k, so I'm a bit concerned.

• Replay attacks for HTTPS requests

  Let's say a security tester uses a proxy, say Fiddler, and records an HTTPS request using the administrator's credentials-- on replay of the entire request (including session and auth cookies) the security tester is able to succesfully (re)record transactions. The claim is that this is a sign of a CSRF vulnerability. What would a malicious user have to do to intercept the HTTPS request and replay it? It this a task for script kiddies, well funded military hacking teams or time-traveling-alien technology? Is it really so easy to record the SSL sessions of users and replay them before the tickets expire? No code in the application currently does anything interesting on HTTP GET, so AFAIK, tricking the admin into clicking a link or loading a image with a malicious URL isn't an issue.

• Cleanest way to run/debug python programs in windows

  Python for Windows by default comes with IDLE, which is the barest-bones IDE I've ever encountered. For editing files, I'll stick to emacs, thank you very much. However, I want to run programs in some other shell than the crappy windows command prompt, which can't be widened to more than 80 characters. IDLE lets me run programs in it if I open the file, then hit F5 (to go Run- Run Module). I would rather like to just "run" the command, rather than going through the rigmarole of closing the emacs file, loading the IDLE file, etc. A scan of google and the IDLE docs doesn't seem to give much help about using IDLE's shell but not it's IDE. Any advice from the stack overflow guys? Ideally I'd either like advice on running programs using IDLE's shell advice on other ways to run python programs in windows outside of IDLE or "cmd". • ConcurrentLinkedQueue$Node remains in heap after remove()

  I have a multithreaded app writing and reading a ConcurrentLinkedQueue, which is conceptually used to back entries in a list/table. I originally used a ConcurrentHashMap for this, which worked well. A new requirement required tracking the order entries came in, so they could be removed in oldest first order, depending on some conditions. ConcurrentLinkedQueue appeared to be a good choice, and functionally it works well. A configurable amount of entries are held in memory, and when a new entry is offered when the limit is reached, the queue is searched in oldest-first order for one that can be removed. Certain entries are not to be removed by the system and wait for client interaction. What appears to be happening is I have an entry at the front of the queue that occurred, say 100K entries ago. The queue appears to have the limited number of configured entries (size() == 100), but when profiling, I found that there were ~100K ConcurrentLinkedQueue$Node objects in memory. This appears to be by design, just glancing at the source for ConcurrentLinkedQueue, a remove merely removes the reference to the object being stored but leaves the linked list in place for iteration. Finally my question: Is there a "better" lazy way to handle a collection of this nature? I love the speed of the ConcurrentLinkedQueue, I just cant afford the unbounded leak that appears to be possible in this case. If not, it seems like I'd have to create a second structure to track order and may have the same issues, plus a synchronization concern.

• Importing large datasets on iPhone using CoreData

  Hi there, I'm facing very annoying problem. My iPhone app is loading it's data from a network server. Data are sent as plist and when parsed, it neeeds to be stored to SQLite db using CoreData. Issue is that in some cases those datasets are too big (5000+ records) and import takes way too long. More on that, when iPhone tries to suspend the screen, Watchdog kills the app because it's still processing the import and does not respond up to 5 seconds, so import is never finished. I used all recommended techniques according to article "Efficiently Importing Data" http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/DOCUMENTATION/Cocoa/Conceptual/CoreData/Articles/cdImporting.html and other docs concerning this, but it's still awfully slow. Solution I'm looking for is to let app suspend, but let import run in behind (better one) or to prevent attempts to suspend the app at all. Or any better idea is welcomed too. Any tips on how to overcome these issues are highly appreciated! Thanks

• Why delete-orphan needs "cascade all" to run in JPA/Hibernate ?

  Hello, I try to map a one-to-many relation with cascade "remove" (jpa) and "delete-orphan", because I don't want children to be saved or persist when the parent is saved or persist (security reasons due to client to server (GWT, Gilead)) But this configuration doesn't work. When I try with cascade "all", it runs. • Get country location of an IP with native PHP

  Read on before you say this is a duplicate, it's not. (as far as I could see) I want to get the county code in php from the client. Yes I know you can do this using external sites or with the likes of "geoip_record_by_name" but I don't want to be dependent on an external site, and I can't install "pear" for php as im using shard Dreamhost hosting. I thought I could just do something like this: $output = shell_exec('whois '.$ip.' -H | grep country | awk \'{print $2}\''); echo "<pre>$output</pre>"; But dreamhost seems to have an old version of whois (4.7.5), so I get this error on allot of IPs: Unknown AS number or IP network. Please upgrade this program. So unless someone knows how to get a binary of a newer version of whois onto dreamhost im stuck. Or is there another way I could get the country code from the client who is loading the page?

• I don't understand Application Domains

  .NET has this concept of Application Domains which from what I understand can be used to load an assembly into memory. I've done some research on Application Domains as well as go to my local book store for some additional knowledge on this subject matter but it seems very scarce. All I know that I can do with Application Domains is to load assemblies in memory and I can unload them when I want. What are the capabilities other that I have mentioned of Application Domains? Do Threads respect Application Domains boundaries? Are there any drawbacks from loading Assemblies in different Application Domains other than the main Application Domains beyond performance of communication? Links to resources that discuss Application Domains would be nice as well. I've already checked out MSDN which doesn't have that much information about them.

I do not lazy load to prevent query execution in other layers of my application. I created another function in my DAL to delete objects: public void Delete(SourceKey sk) { try { _dataContext.DeleteObject(sk); _dataContext.SaveChanges(); } catch (Exception ex) { Debug.WriteLine(ex.Message + " " + ex.StackTrace + " " + ex.InnerException); } } When I try to call "Delete" after calling the "Get" function, I receive this error: New transaction is not allowed because there are other threads running in the session This is an ASP.Net app. My DAL contains an entity data model. The class in which I have the above functions share the same _dataContext, which is instantiated in my constructor. My guess is that the reader is still open from the "Get" function and was not closed. How can I close it?

  hai, is it possible to loading of tabs in jtabedpane dyanamically in java.. that means i have frame that consinting of one tabbedpane.. in that i have 10 tabs and in each tab consting of another tabbedpane and in that each tabbedpane has 4 tabs and each tab consisting buttons and textfields...... when i login into my project the next frame takes more time to visible.... this is happens why because i have more tabbedpanes in my frame so that it takes the lot's of time to visible.. my question is.. is it possible to load tabs content dynamically when i click the tab in tabbedpane..... or is it possible to load tabbedpanes fastly......????????

  Hi all, I want to able to create reusable user controls within my web app and i'm wondering on how to go about doing so. Should a user controls properties be visible to a form that's using it? What's the best way to go about loading the controls on the user control from the form thats using it? Should there be a public method within the control that allows you to load it from an external form or should the user control be loaded in the page load event Is it okay to nest user controls within user controls? etc... • Is it possible to dynamically add webcontrols via jQuery???

  Currently I have a webform that has a series of links. What I'd like to be able to do is add a webcontrol's content when one of the links is clicked. Is this kind of thing even possible? If not, what's the best strategy for loading a set of controls (one textbox and one dropdown with values from one link, two textboxes and a checkbox from another link, etc.). I'd need to be able get the values of each of these controls on postback. Ideally, I'd like to be able to add that new content to an acordian control, most likely the jQuery UI acordian. So each clickable link would add new content to an acordian control. What's everybody's thoughts on this?

  I want to load the lightbox javascript only when a certain condition is satisfied so I'm loading it using $.ajax like so: $.ajax({ url: "../static/js/lightbox.js", dataType: 'script', cache: true, success: function() { alert('loaded'); $("a.lightbox").lightbox({ opacity: "0.6", width: "940" }); }}); I see the "loaded" alert but the lightbox does not work. However, when I load the file directly (script src) from the HTML, lightbox works. How do I fix this? Many thanks for your help.

• Compare values for audit trail

  I'm attempting to develop an audit trail/tracking solution for an existing database written in PLSQL/PHP - however I'm still unsure as of yet on an easy (to implement and maintain) solution for tracking changes to fields/values. For instance, the project tracking portion of the DB APP tracks over 200 fields and ideally I'd like a nice way to show a history of changes, such as: 5/10/2010 - Project 435232 updated by John Doe Changed Project Name (Old: Test Project; New: Super Test Project) Changed Submission Date (Old: 5/10/2010; New: 5/11/2010) Changed Description (Old: This is an example!; New: This is a test example) Essentially for each field (db column) it would output a new line to show the old/new values. So far my current idea is saving the current version of the data to a temporary table, updating the primary table with the new data then loading each row into an array and doing an array compare to determine the differences. This seems a bit convoluted, and if there is an easier method I'd love to know it. Any ideas or suggestions are much appreciated!

• ASP.NET control event handler not firing on postback?

  I have a control which has an ImageButton which is tied to an OnClick event... Upon clicking this control, a postback is performed and the event handler is not called. AutoEventWireup is set to true, and I've double checked spelling etc.... We haven't touched this control in over a year and it has been working fine until a couple of weeks ago. We have made changes to controls which load this control... so I'm wondering, what kind of changes could we have made to stop this event handler from being called? There is quite a bit of Javascript going on, so this could be the culprit too... Edit: Some clarification... we are dynamically loading the parent control of the ImageButton in the OnLoad event of the page... if that makes sense.

  I am trying to enqueue a script from the functions.php file for a custom theme. here is the code I am using: wp_enqueue_script('innerfade','correct/path/to/innerfade.js', array('jquery'), '', false); I also tried to hardcode from the the functions file like so: ?> <script type='text/javascript' src="correct/path/to/innerfade.js"></script> <?php and both are outputting the following: correct/path/to/innerfade.js'?ver=2.9.2 so It doesnt seem to be a wp_enqueue_script problem What I cannot seem to figure is where the hell is the comma after the .js is coming from, it is causing a dead link hence not loading the script, anyone have any ideas??

  I have played with the JSR-299 Reference Implementation "Weld" with the purpose of using it in a stand-alone application, and I have had a look at the documentation, and marveled at the magic. My question is how the producer of a given object to be @Inject'ed is found? Either the java compiler produces hints for annotations which is easily found by the classloader, or the complete classpath must be traversed loading all classes to see what they do which sounds highly inefficient to me, or it is a completely different approach. What is the trick?

  Hello, I'm trying to load a existing pdf file, and fill this with database information. Loading the file and everything is working, except for writing data to the loaded page. It doesn't write text to the loaded page. If I add a new page en use a foreach to apply drawing to all pages, all added pages are written, except for the loaded one.   Hi I have been trying to understand DDD for few weeks now. Its very confusing. I dont understand how I organise my projects. I have lot of questions on UnitOfWork, Repository, Associations and the list goes on... Lets take a simple example. Album and Tracks. Album: AlbumId, Name, ListOf Tracks Tracks: TrackId, Name Question1: Should i expose Tracks as a IList/IEnumerabe property on Album ? If that how do i add an album ? OR should i expose a ReadOnlyCollection of Tracks and expose a AddTrack method? Question2: How do i load Tracks for Album [assuming lazy loading]? should the getter check for null and then use a repository to load the tracks if need be? Question3: How do we organise the assemblies. Like what does each assembly have? Model.dll - does it only have the domain entities? Where do the repositories go? Interfaces and implementations both. Can i define IAlbumRepository in Model.dll? Infrastructure.dll : what shold this have? Question4: Where is unit of work defined? How do repository and unit of work communicate? [ or should they ] for example. if i need to add multiple tracks to album, again should this be defined as AddTrack on Album OR should there a method in the repository? Regardless of where the method is, how do I implement unit of work here? Question5: Should the UI use Infrastructure..dll or should there be ServiceLayer? Do my quesitons make sense? Regards

• Lamp with mod_fastcgi

  Hi! I am building a cgi application, and now I would like it to be like an application that stands and parses each connection, with this, I can have all session variables saved in memory instead of saving them to file(or anyother place) and loading them again on a new connection I am using lamp within a linux vmware but I can't seem to find how to install the module for it to work and what to change in the httpd.conf. I tried to compile the module, but I couldn't because my apache isn't a regular instalation, its a lamp already built one, and it seems that the mod needs the apache directory to be compiled. I saw some coding examples out there, so I guess is not that hard once its runing ok with Apache Can you help me with this please? Thanks, Joe
