  • Silverlight MVVM add record from user control

    - by strattonn
I have a User Control for searching container numbers. If the user enters a container number that's new to the system then I want to tell the VM "I have a new record to add". The MVVM method avoids using Events to communicate with the VM as they create code-behind. Should I create a Dependency Property to trigger the VM but I don't think I've seen other controls with a "NewRecord" property? Any thoughts?

  • The fundamentals of Hash tables?

    - by kylex
I'm quite confused about the basic concepts of a Hash table. If I were to code a hash how would I even begin? What is the difference between a Hash table and just a normal array? Basically if someone answered this question I think all my questions would be answered: If I had 100 randomly generated numbers (as keys), how would I implement a hash table and why would that be advantageous over an array? Psuedo-code or Java would be appreciated as a learning tool...

  • Handling ties when ranking from the highest to the lowest

    - by Undgerman
I am trying to make a ranking manager for a small project. The totals are stored in the database.I can easily get the max and min using mysql and also arrange the records descending. The problem comes in when there is a tie.I need to show a tie in the form:1,2,3,3,4,5,6,7,7,7,7, etc.The repeated numbers will show the ties.I have been thinking of ways of achieving the above but i need more ideas;mine is seems long and complicated. Can anybody share his/her idea of doing the ties.

  • A comprehensive regex for phone number validation

    - by Nicholas Trandem
I'm trying to put together a comprehensive regex to validate phone numbers. Ideally it would handle international formats, but it must handle US formats, including the following: 1-234-567-8901 1-234-567-8901 x1234 1-234-567-8901 ext1234 1 (234) 567-8901 1.234.567.8901 1/234/567/8901 12345678901 I'll answer with my current attempt, but I'm hoping somebody has something better and/or more elegant.

  • is this aes encryption wrapper safe ? - yet another take...

    - by user393087
After taking into accound answers for my questions here and here I created (well may-be) improved version of my wrapper. The key issue was what if an attacker is knowing what is encoded - he might then find the key and encode another messages. So I added XOR before encryption. I also in this version prepend IV to the data as was suggested. sha256 on key is only for making sure the key is as long as needed for the aes alg, but I know that key should not be plain text but calculated with many iterations to prevent dictionary attack function aes192ctr_en($data,$key) { $iv = mcrypt_create_iv(24,MCRYPT_DEV_URANDOM); $xor = mcrypt_create_iv(24,MCRYPT_DEV_URANDOM); $key = hash_hmac('sha256',$key,$iv,true); $data = $xor.((string)$data ^ (string)str_repeat($xor,(strlen($data)/24)+1)); $data = hash('md5',$data,true).$data; return $iv.mcrypt_encrypt('rijndael-192',$key,$data,'ctr',$iv); } function aes192ctr_de($data,$key) { $iv = substr($data,0,24); $data = substr($data,24); $key = hash_hmac('sha256',$key,$iv,true); $data = mcrypt_decrypt('rijndael-192',$key,$data,'ctr',$iv); $md5 = substr($data,0,16); $data = substr($data,16); if (hash('md5',$data,true)!==$md5) return false; $xor = substr($data,0,24); $data = substr($data,24); $data = ((string)$data ^ (string)str_repeat($xor,(strlen($data)/24)+1)); return $data; } $encrypted = aes192ctr_en('secret text','password'); echo $encrypted; echo aes192ctr_de($encrypted,'password'); another question is if ctr mode is ok in this context, would it be better if I use cbc mode ? Again, by safe I mean if an attacter could guess password if he knows exact text that was encrypted and knows above method. I assume random and long password here. Maybe instead of XOR will be safer to random initial data with another run of aes or other simpler alg like TEA or trivium ?

  • How do I simulate a progress counter in a command line application in Python?

    - by CRP
My Python program does a series of things and prints some diagnostic output. I would also like to have a progress counter like this: Percentage done: 25% where the number increases "in place". If I use only string statements I can write separate numbers, but that would clutter the screen. Is there some way to achieve this, for example using some escape char for backspace in order to clear a number and write the next one? Thanks

  • c# string format issue

    - by Kamal
Hi guys I need to convert a string to a monetary format of {###}.###.###,## that is a value of 5461497702600 would become 54.614.977.026,00 The numbers become excessively large. I am using return string.Format(string.Format("{0:#" + (val < 1000 ? "" : "\\.") + "##0.00}", val)); which returns for the example 54614977.026,00 (only one dot) Any help would be appreciated

  • Latency on mobile networks (Android)

    - by Meep3D
I am planning to give mobile phone development a shot and was thinking about making some simple multiplayer games. I know latency over local wifi is probably fine but what are the issues with latency over GPRS/3G? I've searched and the best I've seen is someone saying it was 'high', without presenting any concrete numbers. I suppose latency fluctuations are important as well - does anyone have any info on this?

  • Getting a substring in Ruby by x number of chars

    - by wotaskd
I'm trying to produce some Ruby code that will take a string and return a new one, with a number x number of characters removed from its end - these can be actual letters, numbers, spaces etc. Ex: given the following string a_string = "a1wer4zx" I need a simple way to get the same string, minus - say - the 3 last digits. In the case above, that would be "a1wer". The way I'm doing it right now seems very convoluted: an_array = a_string.split(//,(a_string.length-2)) an_array.pop new_string = an_array.join Any ideas?

  • How do you solve this Haskell problem?

    - by Linda Cohen
I want to define a function replicate to replicate a list of numbers by its value using only list comprehension, for example: replicate [5,1,3,2,8,1,2] output: [5,5,5,5,5,1,3,3,3,2,2,8,8,8,8,8,8,8,8,1,2,2] I know this would be easy to use the 'replicate' built in function but only list comprehension is allow, how can I do this? THANKS!

  • How can I extract a range of lines from a text file on unix?

    - by Adam J. Forster
I have a ~23000 line sql dump containing several databases worth of data. I need to extract a certain section of this file (i.e. the data for a single database) and place it in a new file. I know both the start and end line numbers of the data that I want. Does anyone know a unix command (or series of commands) to extract all lines from a file between say line 16224 and 16482 and then redirect them into a new file?

  • AJAX Div Retrieval every 60 seconds

    - by Sam
    Hello everyone! What I would like to do is retrieve the contents of a PHP file and insert it into a div every 60 seconds, basically refreshing the dynamic div. I've come up with the following code so far, however it doesn't seem to be working. The code is just like this, nothing extra, apart from the MYSQL login. PHP to grab: <?php $time = date("m/d/Y h:i:s a", time()); mysql_query("UPDATE djs SET requesttime='{$time}' WHERE username='{$djs['username']}'") or die(mysql_error()); $request_db = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM requests WHERE haveplayed='0'") or die(mysql_error()); echo "<table style=\"border:1px solid;width:99%;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto;\" border=\"1\">"; echo "<tr><th>Title</th><th>Artist</th><th>Dedicated To...</th></tr>"; while($request = mysql_fetch_array( $request_db )) { echo "<tr><td style=\"width:33%;padding:1px;\">"; echo $request['SongName']; echo "</td><td style=\"width:33%;\">"; echo $request['Artist']; echo "</td><td style=\"width:33%;\">"; echo $request['DedicatedTo']; echo "</td></tr>"; } echo "</table>"; ?> The original PHP code is just the same, enclosed in a div with an id attribute of 'ajax_table'. The JavaScript is: // JavaScript Document var xmlHttp_moniter function moniter() { xmlHttp_moniter = GetXmlHttpObject_parcel() if(xmlHttp_moniter == null) { alert("browser does not support HTTP Request") return } var url="ajax_table.php?random=" + Math.random() xmlHttp_moniter.onreadystatechange = stateChanged xmlHttp_moniter.open("GET",url,true) xmlHttp_moniter.send(null) } function stateChanged() { if(xmlHttp_moniter.readyState==4 || xmlHttp_moniter.readyState == "complete") { document.getElementById("ajax_table").innerHTML = xmlHttp_moniter.responseText setTimeout('ajax_table()',60000); } } function GetXmlHttpObject_parcel() { var xmlHttp_moniter=null; try { xmlHttp_moniter=new XMLHttpRequest(); } catch (e) { //Internet Explorer try { xmlHttp_moniter=new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch (e) { xmlHttp_moniter=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } } return xmlHttp_moniter; } and that is on the page that is requesting the other php page.
