  • Why does HTTP::Message::decodable complain about "Can't use an undefined value as a HASH reference"?

    - by scarba05
    I'm getting a Can't use an undefined value as a HASH reference error trying to call HTTP::Message::decodable() using Perl 5.10 / libwww installed on Debian Lenny OS using the aptitude package manager. I'm really stuck so would appreciate some help please. Here's the error: Can't use an undefined value as a HASH reference at (eval 2) line 1. at test.pl line 4 main::__ANON__('Can\'t use an undefined value as a HASH reference at enter code here`(eval 2)...') called at (eval 2) line 1 HTTP::Message::__ANON__() called at test.pl line 6 Here's the code: use strict; use HTTP::Request::Common; use Carp; $SIG{ __DIE__ } = sub { Carp::confess( @_ ) }; print HTTP::Message::decodable();

  • Precompile Lambda Expression Tree conversions as constants?

    - by Nathan
It is fairly common to take an Expression tree, and convert it to some other form, such as a string representation (for example this question and this question, and I suspect Linq2Sql does something similar). In many cases, perhaps even most cases, the Expression tree conversion will always be the same, i.e. if I have a function public string GenerateSomeSql(Expression<Func<TResult, TProperty>> expression) then any call with the same argument will always return the same result for example: GenerateSomeSql(x => x.Age) //suppose this will always return "select Age from Person" GenerateSomeSql(x => x.Ssn) //suppose this will always return "select Ssn from Person" So, in essence, the function call with a particular argument is really just a constant, except time is wasted at runtime re-computing it continuously. Assuming, for the sake of argument, that the conversion was sufficiently complex to cause a noticeable performance hit, is there any way to pre-compile the function call into an actual constant?

  • Comparing images using SIFT

    - by Luís Fernando
I'm trying to compare 2 images that are taken from a digital camera. Since there may be movement on the camera, I want to first make the pictures "match" and then compare (using some distant function). To match them, I'm thinking about cropping the second picture and using SIFT to find it inside the first picture... it will probably have a small difference on scale/translation/rotation so then I'd need to find the transformation matrix that converts image 1 to image 2 (based on points found by SIFT) any ideas on how to do that (or I guess that's a common problem that may have some opensource implementation?)? thanks

  • Is there a non-blocking version of MessageBox.Show (or something like it)?

    - by Dan Tao
Often you just want to notify the user that something has occurred, but there's really no need for any input from them. In this common scenario, I sometimes see code like this: MessageBox.Show("Something has occurred", "Something", MessageBoxButtons.OK); This code, as we all know, causes a little pop-up window to appear with only an OK button. Now here's the thing: this code blocks (the UI thread). But in the vast majority of cases, it seems to me, if you only have an OK button, there's very little need to block. (Isn't the purpose of blocking typically to receive some input from the user? And if the user's only choice is "OK," in this typical case, isn't blocking pretty pointless?) Obviously I could just write my own little form that does basically exactly what MessageBox.Show does, except that it returns nothing (no DialogResult) and doesn't block. But I was just wondering if something like this exists already that I didn't know about.

  • Lazy loading in Hibernate

    - by Steve
My Java Web application uses Hibernate to perform ORM. In some of my objects, I use lazy loading to avoid getting data until I absolutely need it. The problem is that I load the initial object in a session, and then that session is destroyed. When I later attempt to resolve the lazy-loaded collections in my object I get the following error: org.hibernate.LazyInitializationException: failed to lazily initialize a collection of role: common.model.impl.User.groups, no session or session was closed I tried associating a new session with the collection and then resolving, but this gives the same results. Does anyone know how I can resolve the lazy collections once the original session is gone? Thanks... --Steve

  • VBScript LDAP: Is there a way to query for physicalDeliveryOfficeName using the email address in Act

    - by phill
I'm attempting to utilize VBScript to connect pull the physicalDeliveryOfficeName attribute in Active Directory by providing the email address. I know how to do it with a common name like the following: Set MyUser = GetObject ("LDAP://cn=" & uname & ",ou=" & strname & ",DC=bobdom,DC=net") However only the email address is available. How to do this? I've even tried Set MyUser = GetObject ("LDAP://mail=" & uname & ",ou=" & strname & ",DC=bobdom,DC=net") and that doesn't work.

    - by user248785
Hi, I have created a windows forms application using vs2008. when i copy the bin folder over to another machine and try to run it the applicaiton throws a filenotfoundexception error. Ive looked at the references files used in the project and each file points to either c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727... c:\Program Files\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.5... c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Visual Basic Power Packs\1.1... i have verified that these directories exist on the other machines that cause the error. the two machines that i have tried it on and that throw there error are Windows XP WITHOUT VS2008 installed and Windows 7 with VS2008 installed I tried on two machine that DID work which are Windows XP with VS2008 and and my development machine Windows 7 with VS2008 Could anyone provide me with some insight on this issue Thanks

  • how random is Math.random() in java across different jvms or different machines

    - by user881480
I have a large distributed program across many different physical servers, each program spawns many threads, each thread use Math.random() in its operations to draw a piece from many common resource pools. The goal is to utilize the pools evenly across all operations. Sometimes, it doesn't appear so random by looking at a snapshot on a resource pool to see which pieces it's getting at that instant (it might actually be, but it's hard to measure and find out for sure). Is there something that's better than Math.random() and performs just as good (not much worse at least)?

  • Calling Sub from EventHandler

    - by madlan
I'm using the below to update controls from another thread (works great) How would I call a Sub (Named UpdateList)? The UpdateList updates a listview with a list of databases on a selected SQL instance, requires no arguments. Private Sub CompleteEventHandler(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.ServerMessageEventArgs) SetControlPropertyValue(Label8, "text", e.ToString) UpdateList() MessageBox.Show("Restore Complete") End Sub Delegate Sub SetControlValueCallback(ByVal oControl As Control, ByVal propName As String, ByVal propValue As Object) Private Sub SetControlPropertyValue(ByVal oControl As Control, ByVal propName As String, ByVal propValue As Object) If (oControl.InvokeRequired) Then Dim d As New SetControlValueCallback(AddressOf SetControlPropertyValue) oControl.Invoke(d, New Object() {oControl, propName, propValue}) Else Dim t As Type = oControl.[GetType]() Dim props As PropertyInfo() = t.GetProperties() For Each p As PropertyInfo In props If p.Name.ToUpper() = propName.ToUpper() Then p.SetValue(oControl, propValue, Nothing) End If Next End If End Sub Based On: http://www.shabdar.org/cross-thread-operation-not-valid.html

  • translate by replacing words inside existing text

    - by Berry Tsakala
What are common approaches for translating certain words (or expressions) inside a given text, when the text must be reconstructed (with punctuations and everythin.) ? The translation comes from a lookup table, and covers words, collocations, and emoticons like L33t, CUL8R, :-), etc. Simple string search-and-replace is not enough since it can replace part of longer words (cat dog ? caterpillar dogerpillar). Assume the following input: s = "dogbert, started a dilbert dilbertion proces cat-bert :-)" after translation, i should receive something like: result = "anna, started a george dilbertion process cat-bert smiley" I can't simply tokenize, since i loose punctuations and word positions. Regular expressions, works for normal words, but don't catch special expressions like the smiley :-) but it does . re.sub(r'\bword\b','translation',s) ==> translation re.sub(r'\b:-\)\b','smiley',s) ==> :-) for now i'm using the above mentioned regex, and simple replace for the non-alphanumeric words, but it's far from being bulletproof. (p.s. i'm using python)

  • Fast iterating over first n items of an iterable (not a list) in python

    - by martinthenext
Hello! I'm looking for a pythonic way of iterating over first n items of an iterable (upd: not a list in a common case, as for lists things are trivial), and it's quite important to do this as fast as possible. This is how I do it now: count = 0 for item in iterable: do_something(item) count += 1 if count >= n: break Doesn't seem neat to me. Another way of doing this is: for item in itertools.islice(iterable, n): do_something(item) This looks good, the question is it fast enough to use with some generator(s)? For example: pair_generator = lambda iterable: itertools.izip(*[iter(iterable)]*2) for item in itertools.islice(pair_generator(iterable), n): so_something(item) Will it run fast enough as compared to the first method? Is there some easier way to do it?

  • Django template not loading javascript and css properly due to urlpatterns

    - by fmsf
Hey, When this one runs everything goes fine: (r"^newobject$", "views.myobjects.newobject"), All the CSS + JS files are properly fetched from: static/css/... static/js/... When this one runs: (r"^mybjects/(([a-z]|[A-Z]|[0-9])+)$","views.myobjects.loadobject"), All the css and JS files that are being fetched, are run trough the urlpatterns and are returning my defailt page: (r"", 'views.main.index'), This makes all my CSS and JS code to actualy be HTML. My guess is that i'm giving some noob mistake. Is there any common reason why this should happen? And how to fix it?

  • Code reading: where can i read great, modern, and well-documented C++ code?

    - by baol
Reading code is one of the best ways to learn new idioms, tricks, and techniques. Sadly it's very common to find badly written C++ code. Some use C++ as it was C, others as if it was Java, some just shoot in their feet. I believe gtkmm is a good example of C++ design, but a binding could not be the better code to read (you need to know the C library behind that). Boost libraries (at least the one I read) tend to be less readable than I'd like. Can you mention open source projects (or other projects which source is freely readable) that are good example of readable, modern, well-documented, and auto-contained, C++ code to learn from? (I believe that one project per answer will be better, and I'd include the motivation that led you to selecting that one.)

  • Building Java projects with circular imports in Eclipse

    - by Buggieboy
I have a legacy Java (not my native language) app that I'm trying to build in Eclipse Galileo. As it's not my own, I can't speak to the quality of the design, but I am coming across a number of instances where I'll have something like this: In a project called, say, "lib_a", I'll have a file containing this: import com.acme.lib_b.onething; Project "lib_b" on the other hand, will contain: import com.acme.lib_a.anotherthing; Of course, the problem is that one project can't be built because the errors prevent me from creating a .jar file that can be added as an external archive to the other project, and vice versa. It seems to me that this must be a fairly common occurence in building Java applications. Rewriting it from scratch is not an option here, so I'd like to know "what other folks do."

  • Java Swing: how to add an image to a JPanel ?

    - by Leonel
I have a JPanel to which I'd like to add JPEG and PNG images that I generate on the fly. All the examples I've seen so far in the Swing Tutorials, specially in the Swing examples use ImageIcons. I'm generating these images as byte arrays, and they are usually larger than the common icon they use in the examples, at 640x480. Is there any (performance or other) problem in using the ImageIcon class to display an image that size in a JPanel ? What's the usual way of doing it ? How to add an image to a JPanel without using the ImageIcon class ? Edit: A more careful examination of the tutorials and the API shows that you cannot add an ImageIcon directly to a JPanel. Instead, they achieve the same effect by setting the image as an icon of a JLabel. This just doesn't fill right...

  • Good input validation loop using cin - C++

    - by Alex
    Hi there, I'm in my second OOP class, and my first class was taught in C#, so I'm new to C++ and currently I am practicing input validation using cin. So here's my question: Is this loop I constructed a pretty good way of validating input? Or is there a more common/accepted way of doing it? Thanks! Code: int taxableIncome; int error; // input validation loop do { error = 0; cout << "Please enter in your taxable income: "; cin >> taxableIncome; if (cin.fail()) { cout << "Please enter a valid integer" << endl; error = 1; cin.clear(); cin.ignore(80, '\n'); } }while(error == 1);

  • How do you handle descriptive database table names and their effect on foreign key names?

    - by Carvell Fenton
Hello, I am working on a database schema, and am trying to make some decisions about table names. I like at least somewhat descriptive names, but then when I use suggested foreign key naming conventions, the result seems to get ridiculous. Consider this example: Suppose I have table session_subject_mark_item_info And it has a foreign key that references sessionSubjectID in the session_subjects table. Now when I create the foreign key name based on fk_[referencing_table]__[referenced_table]_[field_name] I end up with this maddness: fk_session_subject_mark_item_info__session_subjects_sessionSubjectID Would this type of a foreign key name cause me problems down the road, or is it quite common to see this? Also, how do the more experienced database designers out there handle the conflict between descriptive naming for readability vs. the long names that result? I am using MySQL and MySQL Workbench if that makes any difference. Thanks!

  • java reading numbers, interpreting as octal, want interpreted as string

    - by user331401
hello, i am having an issue, where java is reading an array list from a YAML file of numbers, or strings, and it is interpreting the numbers as octal if it has a leading 0, and no 8-9 digit. is there a way to force java to read the yaml field as a string? code: ArrayList recordrarray = (ArrayList) sect.get("recordnum"); if (recordrarray != null) { recno = join (recordrarray, " "); } HAVE ALSO TRIED: Iterator<String> iter = recordrarray.iterator(); if (iter.hasNext()) recno = " " +String.valueOf(iter.next()); System.out.println(" this recnum:" + recno); while (iter.hasNext()){ recno += ""+String.valueOf(iter.next())); System.out.println(" done recnum:" + String.valueOf(iter.next())); } the input is such: 061456 changes to 25390 061506 changes to 25414 061559 - FINE it took a while to figure out what it was doing, and apparently this is a common issue for java, ideas? thanks

  • Graph Databases' Implementation

    - by user1478153
I am having trouble visualizing a Graph Database. Visualizing an RDBMS is really very simple and I was able to understand from the first tutorial itself when I started learning it some 4-5 years ago. But I am not able to understand Graph Databases. I am also unable to get any good links on this topic, hence posting this question here. Specifically, I am looking for the following: Some really simple book/link on Graph Dbs Atleast some knowledge on the implementation details of a Graph DB (I hope all Graph DBs would be having atleast a few basic things in common). Thanks a lot in advance guys,

  • DNS Lookup in ASP / ASP.Net

    - by Dave Forgac
I have a Windows server that is intermittently losing the ability to lookup DNS information. I'm trying to get to the root cause of the problem but in the mean time I'd like to be able to monitor whether the server can perform lookups. Basically, it should attempt to lookup some common hostnames and the display 'Success' if the lookups are successful. I see lots of examples of doing this with third party components in ASP but I would prefer to be able to do this with a single ASP / ASP.Net script that would be portable and not require anything additional be installed.

  • Ensure connection to a POSPrinter connected via COM

    - by Alexander
Hi, I need to make sure that the connection to a POS printer is successful before writing data to the database and then printing a receipt. The POSprinter is normally of type BTP 2002NP but may differ. The common thing is that they are all connected via COM-port and NOT usb, so no drivers installed at all on the client. Can I send some kind of "ping" on a COM-port and check if a device is connected and turned on? Any help or suggestions are very much appreciated. Additional information, the application is developed in VB.net and Visual Studio 2008

  • Help repaiting a Component

    - by serhio
I am working with Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks.RectangleShape, but the question is common for components or controls in general. I added to a TextRectangleShape : RectangleShape a Text property: Protected Overrides Sub OnPaint(ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.PaintEventArgs) MyBase.OnPaint(e) Dim f As Font = Me.Font Dim g As Graphics = e.Graphics Dim textRect As Rectangle = New Rectangle(Me.Location, Me.Size) Using br As New SolidBrush(Me._TextColor) g.DrawString(_Text, f, br, textRect) End Using End Sub Now when I move this control the text does not disappear from the former location. Maybe I could invalidate each time the Parent in the OnPaint, but if this is not a good solution if the parent has a time consuming repaint logic or I have a lot of my custom component moving at the same time. How do I properly repaint the component?

  • php gdlib angle problem

    - by creativz
I'm using php gd lib 5.2.13 and tried to make a picture with imagettftext ($image, $color and $font are defined of course). imagettftext($image, 12, 90, 10, 20, $black, $font, "This.is_a test 123"); //image, font size, angle, x value, y value, color, font, text As you can see I want the angle to be 90°. The problem is that the text is not beeing rotated properly, e.g. the dots are at the top (and not at the bottom) of the text. I read that this is a common issue and has been fixed in php gdlib 5.3, But since I have 5.2.13 running on a webhost (...) is there a solution to rotate it properly with using gdlib 5.2.13? Thanks!

  • PHP Dynamic Breadcrumb, small modification

    - by Adrian M.
Hello, I got this code from someone and it works very well, I just want to remove the link from the last element of the array: //get rid of empty parts $crumbs = array_filter($crumbs); $result = array(); $path = ''; foreach($crumbs as $crumb){ $path .= '/' . $crumb; $name = ucfirst(str_replace(array(".php","_"),array(""," "), $crumb)); $result[] = "<a href=\"$path\">$name</a>"; } print implode(' > ', $result); This will output for example: Content Common File I just want a to remove the link from the last item - "File" to be just plain text.. I tried myself to count the array items and then if the array item is the last one then to print as plain text the last item.. but I'm still noob, I haven't managed to get a proper result.. Thank you!

  • Stop browser from filling textboxes with details

    - by TenaciousImpy
Hi, I've run into a really annoying problem, and I'm hoping it's just a setting I've missed. I've got an ASP.NET application which allows users to enter their username/password in various places (e.g. login, change password, change username etc..). When I logged in, the browser asked if I would like to store the user details. Usually, I click 'no', but this time I decided to click 'yes'. Now, certain textboxes in my form are prefilled with the username or password. Is it possible to remove these, as they sometimes appear in textboxes which shouldn't be prefilled. I tried setting AutoCompleteType=none and Text='' but it still gets prefilled. The textboxes don't have much in common, except the same CssClass and, for password boxes, TextMode=password. The names are different, although sometimes they include the word name (e.g. fullName, userName). Is there a way to stop the browser from filling certain textboxes? Thanks
