I was messing around with the Location tab in "properties" for "My Music" and ended up changing it a few times to directories on another drive.
I quickly decided I didn't like the change and reverted it back.
The My Music folder in my users directory is working fines but now my iTunes directory is labeled as "My Music" and the music directory within is called "My Music".
Describing the issue simply:
D:\iTunes\Music
is labeled as
Computer Local Disk(D:) My Music My Music
Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated.
Hey
I use Rackspace for website and email hosting but I have lots of disk space and bandwidth I don't use.
Does anyone need good reliable hosting for a small fee?
Most people use their SSD as their primary system installation disk with Windows 7.
W7 already has a lot of optimizations for SSDs, both in terms of performance and lifetime. Minimizing writes increases the lifetime of SSDs, so post each suggestion as an answer and let others vote on them.
I want to create a ghost or image of a fresh Windows XP development environment with all the various bits of software installed and ready to go, so that when the OS gets clogged or the main disk fails I can simply install the ghost rather than having to run through the entire install and setup process all over again.
What is the best way to go about doing this?
Cheers.
What is the reason partitioning is usually a step in installing multiple (2) operating systems on the same computer?
Does an operating system have to have it's own partition to run or can it run in the same partition as another operating system? (i.e. -can two of the same flavor run in the same partition but if you have one Linux and one windows it needs to be partitioned?)
Is it necessary to make disk partitions to run multiple operating systems?
I'm facing a problem in singleton object in c++. Here is the explanation:
Problem info: I have a 4 shared libraries (say libA.so, libB.so, libC.so, libD.so) and 2 executable binary files each using one another shared library( say libE.so) which deals with files.
The purpose of libE.so is to write data into a file and if the executable restarts or size of file exceeds a certain limit it is zipped and a new file is created with time stamp in name. It is using singleton object. It exports a handler class for getting and using singleton. Compressing only happens in the above said two cases. The user/loader executable can specify the starting name of file only no other control is provided by handler class.
libA.so, libB.so, libC.so and libD.so have almost same behavior. They all have a class and declare and object of an handler which gets the instance of the singleton in libE.so and uses it for further purpose.
All these libraries are linked to two executable binary files. If only one of the two executable runs then its fine, But if both executable runs one after other then the file of the first started executable gets compressed.
Debug info: The constructor and destructor of the singleton object is called twice.(for each executable)
The object of singleton is a static object and never deleted.
The executable is not able to exit/return gives:
glibc detected * (exe1 or exe2): double free or corruption (!prev): some_addr *
Running with binaries valgrind gives that the above error is due to the destructor of the singleton object.
Thanks
i want to implement a cloud computing model with some nodes
each node having limited hardware (specifications are 1.6ghz 400mb ram 10gb disk and 100gb bandwidth)
how much users it can bear simultaneously without crashing down....
pls help
I trying to create a dual boot of linux and mac without bootcamp. But I'm nervous that I'll screw up or lose my data.
In disk utilitys I made a 45gig partion called linux but I dont know how to format it and if it matters at all....
Also, when the partition is done. I press cntrl when booting up select that Linux partition and put in the livebootUSB or CD right?
Background
I have backups of a website which stores all of it's data into a single file. This file is several gigs large and I have many different backups of this file. Most of the data within is mostly the same plus whatever was added or changed to it.
I want to keep all the concurrent backups I've made through the years in case I find a horrible surprise of data corruption along the line. However storing a 10gig file every month gets expensive.
Seeking Solution
I've often thought about different ways of alleviating this problem. One thought that comes up very often combines the idea of a duplicating file system which doesn't require it's own partitioned volume on a hard drive. Something like what truecrypt does, what it calls, "file hosted containers" which when using the truecrypt program allows you to mount and dismount that volume as a regular hard drive.
Question
Is there a virtual hard drive mounter which uses file-based container which uses data deduplicaiton file system?
(This question is a little awkward to put into words, if you have a better idea on how to ask this question please feel free to help out.)
I'm trying to clone my windows xp installation.
If I back it up using clone zilla and the my xp machine is infected by virus/spyware would I also be bringing the whole mess when I try to back it up.
Do I need the whole partition/ whole disk if I use an external hard drive to backup.
Would the data be formatted on the partition that I choose?
Hi,
I have an old hard disk enclosed in a USB HDD caddy. I want to access G:\Documents and Settings(username).
It gives me the error Access is Denied.
The username is the same as my current windows username, and so is the password.
What do I need to do to access it?
Thanks,
Steve
What does CPU time exactly consist of?
For instance, is the time taken to access a page from the RAM (at which point, the CPU is most likely idling) part of the CPU time? I'm not talking about fetching the page from the disk here, just fetching it from the RAM.
Thanks
I have used Puttygen to create a public and a private key, and then is ready to let TortoiseHg on Windows 7 do a clone by going to
ssh:[email protected]/somecode
but there seems to be no where to add the private key to TortoiseHg?
The file is already some where on hard disk as somefile.ppk Does someone know how to add it?
I have a windows 2008 x64 server with 8GB of RAM installed.
Task Manager and Resource Monitor both insist that 7.5GB of the RAM is in use. However, the memory list under Processes (Memory Private Bytes) doesn't add up. I do have Show Processes from all users checked and hand adding the numbers I come up with about 3.5GB of RAM.
I also looked at the latest copy of SysInternals Process Explorer. And neither the Private Bytes or Working Set adds up to more than about 3.5GB of RAM in use.
What's going on?
=====
Update:
I bounced the server to see what would happen with the memory utilization. After boot and regular operations began it sat at 3GB of RAM usage. 18 hours later, it's back up to 6.8GB of usage with no indication as to where the additional 3.5GB or so of RAM is being used.
Here are links to screen shots of the resource monitor and task manager:
Resource Monitor
Task Manager
Update 2:
Well, I believe I located the problem. When I detached one of the larger databases from my sql server the amount of ram shown as "in use" dropped drastically. The Memory Private Bytes count barely moved. So I'm guessing that SQL server has some way of allocating memory where it doesn't really show up in any of the monitors.
I went further and created a new database file, then transferred all of the data from the one I detached. Even though it has the same data, and the same transactions going through it, the memory in use has stayed low. Maybe there was some corruption in the DB? I'll leave it to the DB gods and go searching for another "problem" ;)
After performing a large delete in MySQL, I understand you need to run a NULL ALTER to reclaim disk space, is this also true for reclaiming index space?
We have tables using 10G of index space and have deleted/archived large chunks of this data and unsure if we need to rebuild the table in order to decrease the size of the index.
Can anyone offer any advice?
We are trying to avoid rebuilding the table since it would take quite awhile and lock the table.
Thanks!
I have a windows 7 machine that won't boot completely, even in safe mode. I want to re-image the machine using a generic software image, but would like to keep the user data (including settings etc) that are on there ala Windows Easy Transfer. I can mount the hard disk on another machine - can I use Easy Transfer to transfer the user state of an account on the non-booted OS? Or do I need explore USMT?
For some bad reason Microsoft decided to remove all standard desktop icons besides the Recyle bin.
It is easy to create shortcuts to each single disk using create shortcut method.
But I would like to have the computer icon too.
I guess there will be an increased demand to create useful shortcuts on Windows 8 Servers Desktop, because the metro surface 'on the backside of your screen' is just impractical.
I have to perform various task such as restarting process, monitor process state check disk space, log monitoring on Window server 2003 machine. For this i am using remote desktop access which is very slow. Is there any alternate (Tool or Framework) for windows server where i can execute my script on my machine and the required task will be performed on the remote machine in somewhat interactive manner (like putty in linux)
I want to know what files a specific application is trying to access on my disk. I know that you can use fs_usage, but this outputs events from all applications. I know that you can target a single application, but only one that is already running. I want to detect all readfile-events an application is trying to do, ever since it is started. I don't want to miss out on any event.
How do you achieve this?
Can anybody suggest me any good and preferably free software - working on Vista / 7 - for recovering content from DVD disks?
A few DVD-R VOB files cannot be read from disk by Windows. Probably the camera failed to burn it correctly.
What I want to achieve is to skip a few invalid frames in VOB files and recreate proper MPEG stream - without re-encoding whole stream and loosing the quality.
I usually check "Restore last view settings" in preferencs of Acrobat Reader. But I'm actually wondering where Acrobat Reader saves this information? In Windows Registry? In PDF file itself? On my local disk?
Does 7-Zip take advantage of multiprocessor or multi-core systems when compressing?
For example, would there be a close to 16 times speed-up on a 16 core system assuming no disk or memory bottlenecks?
Or is it is limited to 2 threads (2 times speed-up on systems with more than one CPU or core)?
Hello,
I run into the same issue as someone who posted this question on experts-exchange.com (couldn't read the answer though as I don't have an account there):
{Quote Begin}
I noticed that the 180-day Evaluation version of SQL Server 2008 is the
Enterprise version. Is there going to be any problem "upgrading" the Evaluation Enterprise
version to a licensed STANDARD version (and how much additional stuff is going to be
left inactive on my disk and, more importantly, in my registry, etc. if I do
so)?
{Quote End}
Any advice is appreciated.
I have an HD 250 Gb It is portioned to C,D,E C has 50 GB D has 50 GB and the rest is given to E, On C I have Windows 7, I decided to install Opensuse On E. I have installed Opensuse Successfully. Now Opensuse loader shows Windows7 option when I it loads but, when I chose to load windows 7 I get " A Disk read error occured, press ctrl+alt+e to restart". Does any one has an Idea How to fix windows 7 and keep Opensuse ? My Opensuse is 12.2. Thanks
