  • LVM and cloning HDs

    Using Linux, I have several backup levels. One of them is a periodical sector by sector copy (using dd) of my laptop harddisk to an external USB disk. Yes, I have other backups too, like remote rsync. This approach (the disk dd) is OK when cloning a HDD with no LVM volumes, since I can plug the external disk anytime and mount the partitions simply mounting /dev/sdb* instead of /dev/sda*. Trivial and handy. Today I moved ALL my harddisk (including the /boot) to LVM. Everything works fine. I will stress it for a couple of days, and then I will do a sector by sector copy to my external harddisk. Now I have a problem, I guess. If in the future I plug the external USB HDD to recover any file, the OS will detect a duplicate LVM configuration, with the same name and the same UUID. Even doing a vgrename (which LVM would be renamed, the internal HDD or the external HDD?), the cloned UUID will not change. Is there any command to change name and UUID? Ideally I would clone the HDD and then change the LVM group name and its UUID, but I don't know how to do it. Another related issue would be... In the past I have booted my laptop using the external disk, using the BIOS boot menu and changing GRUB entries manually to boot from /dev/sdb instead of /dev/sda. But now my current GRUB configuration boots directly from a LVM logical volume, something like: set root='(LVM-root)' in my grub.cfg. So... What is going to happen with duplicated volumes? Any suggestion? I guess I could repartition my external harddisk and change backup strategy from dd to rsync, but this disk has windows installed too, and I really would like to have a physical "real" copy.

  • Redmine on Apache2 with Passenger issue

    I installed Redmine and run it in Apache2 with the Passenger module. Apache2 boots, Passenger module gets loaded and the Redmine welcome page is shown, however when trying to login or navigate to other parts of the Redmine site, the browser keeps loading and loading and loading forever, although the Redmine production.log indicates redirects and HTTP 200 codes in the header, so everything seems to work correctly according to the log. I tested in various browsers. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong? I will add apache configuration and some relevant log snippets from both apache and redmine hereafter.     So I've been attempting to teach myself SCVMM 2012 and Hyper-V Server 2012 R2, and I seem to have hit a snag. I've connected my Hyper-V Host to SCVMM 2012 successfully, and created a logical network, logical switch, and uplink port profile (which I essentially blew through with the default settings). However when I attempt to create a virtual switch on my Hyper-V host, I run into an issue. The job will use my logical network settings I created to configure the virtual switch, but when it tries to apply it to the host, it stalls and eventually fails with the following error: Error (2916) VMM is unable to complete the request. The connection to the agent vmhost1.test.loc was lost. WinRM: URL: [h**p://vmhost1.test.loc:5985], Verb: [GET], Resource: [h**p://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wmi/root/virtualization/v2/Msvm_ConcreteJob?InstanceID=2F401A71-14A2-4636-9B3E-10C0EE942D33] Unknown error (0x80338126) Recommended Action Ensure that the Windows Remote Management (WinRM) service and the VMM agent are installed and running and that a firewall is not blocking HTTP/HTTPS traffic. Ensure that VMM server is able to communicate with econ-hyperv2.econ.loc over WinRM by successfully running the following command: winrm id –r:vmhost1.test.loc This problem can also be caused by a Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service crash. If the server is running Windows Server 2008 R2, ensure that KB 982293 (h**p://support.microsoft.com/kb/982293) is installed on it. If the error persists, restart vmhost1.test.loc and then try the operation again. Refer to h**p://support.microsoft.com/kb/2742275 for more details.     I'm running an external script that loads up a Magento session. Within that script, I'm loading products and grabbing a bunch of properties. The one issue is that getFinalPrice() does not apply the catalog rules that apply to the product. I'm doing everything I know to set the session, even a bunch of stuff that I think is superfluous. Nothing seems to get these rules applied.     I know I have to use SetWindowLongPtr with GWLP_WNDPROC and create my own WndProc that handles the message I want (such as WM_GETMINMAXINFO and modify the MINMAXINFO structure). However, because I want to do this for a window created by another program (like notepad.exe), I can't do this from my C#/WinForms program, I have to create a native C/C++ DLL that I have to inject in the the process that created the window. Can you provide a link or the sample code to do this (the native C++ DLL and the way to call it from C# and inject it into the external process)? Thank you

    Hi Guys, I'm currently signed up with a third party service that hosts my mercurial repositories as a central hub to push my changes to as a sort of backup. Now, I'm looking at a system to backup my laptop and am concidering Mozy. I'm a loan developer, and work on a laptop and am usualy connected to my internet via wifi with my laptop only really being on when I'm working, so feel something like Mozy is my best option. My question is, if I'm the only developer, could I get away with just using local mercurial repos and using Mozy to backup everything up? Rather than pushing to an external repo? Many thanks Matt

  • Why do external Java libraries paths have to be refreshed in eclipse between starts?

    For my school projects, I use the joda-time API for generating timestamps that are used for file names and logging. Getting eclipse to recognize the library is no problem. However, when I start eclipse between reboots, I get the red X in the project tree because the external API cannot be found, even though the file path has not changed. So each time, I have to go to the Libraries tab in Build Path to re-target the API. Frankly, this is getting to be a PIMA. So is there any way to have the path be permanent, so I don't have to do the Build Path rigmarole all the time?

  • Eclipse hangs when rebuilding after the addition of an external JAR file.

    I'm fairly new to Eclipse so if this is something simple I apologize, however when I attempt to add an external JAR file to my build path (specifically the "rt.jar" file which contains certain tools that I require) and then rebuild my project, Eclipse will hang at the end of the Build process. It'll get to 100% then just hang there using 100% of one of my CPU cores. At first I thought it may have been due to the relatively large size of the rt.jar file, but I tried using smaller JAR files and it still hung at 100%. Any help would be greatly appreciated! If there is something wrong with using the rt.jar file does anyone know of another JAR file that contains both tools for dealing with SOAP requests as well as XML/DOM manipulation? Thanks again!

    I want to include an external php script or modx snippet to the index.php but it causes the blank screen instead (and no document parser errors). Probably the problem is that this script i want to include contains starting session functions and set_include_path function that might somehow conflict with Modx parser.. I tried to use the Modx API but it doesn't seem to work. I use Modx 0.9.2.6 yet.. How can I overcome the issue? My script checks the session and database if the user is logged-in on the site (logging system is not modx-based) and then prints the menu depends on the user privileges...

    I am working on a site which is full of inline css. Is there a tool to automatically refactor the pages so that inline css is moved to an external css file? Preferably doing this in a smart way where it doesn't create duplicate css declarations so if I have two inline css like style="left-padding; 12px", it creates one css class instead of two? Adobe Dreamweaver can do this manually one inline css at a time. I prefer a tool to do all the work in one shot.

  • How do I view Visual Studio BuildLog.htm files without cutting and pasting into an external browser

    This may or may not be specific to VS2005 (as that is the version I'm referring to for this question). I find often the case is that I see this in the Output panel inside Visual Studio 2>Build log was saved at "file://c:\\vsdll_example\MyExecRefsDll\Debug\BuildLog.htm" Now, since that looks and smells like a URL, I would have thought that I could simply left mouse click on it, or left mouse double-click on it, and a browser window of some sort would be displayed. No, that doesn't work. So, to view it, I have to cut and paste the "file://bla/bla/bla" part into an external window. Is there a way to set up Visual Studio to allow me to browse to that file directly, or view it inside Visual Studio IDE, or something to that effect, without the extra fiddling with cutting and pasting? Or is there some type of keybinding I'm not aware of? Thanks, bg

    I have an Xcode project with a directory structure like this: MasterProjectDir/projectname.xcodeproj MasterProjectDir/ProjectSubDir/whatever.c MasterProjectDir/ProjectSubDir/etc.c MasterProjectDir/ProjectSubDir/Makefile My xcodeproj uses an external build target to point to the Makefile using these settings: Build Tool: /usr/bin/make Arguments: $(ACTION) Directory: ./ProjectSubDir For various reasons, I need to change the project directory structure to look like this: MasterProjectDir/projectname.xcodeproj MasterProjectDir/whatever.c MasterProjectDir/etc.c MasterProjectDir/Makefile I copied the .xcodeproj file into the ProjectSubDir and the project somehow still knows where to look for the files (?!?! - this is odd because their location is set as "relative to group" and I've just moved the xcodeproj file). It won't build. I get the following error: make: * No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. Command /usr/bin/make failed with exit code 2 I could use a little help on this. There must be a setting I need to change somewhere.

    Hi all, Have had a good hunt through the archive but can't find anyone trying to do this... hope someone familiar with the facebook API can confirm if it's possible? Basically I have a client who wants to replicate their membership sign up process in a tab on their facebook page. The form would still submit to their own website to process, we'd just be replicating the form fields. As an additional requirement they want to capture peoples facebook user ID and get permission to post back to a users wall at the same time... The idea being that once the user is a member we can post back to their wall so their friends see that they've signed up... Basically after a sanity check that: 1) these things are possible to do; 2) the best method to build the form in a FB page - I'm guessing using JS to create all fields & ajax to submit to the external site? Why im asking is that on one machine the connection is closed afther 5 minutes.(Windows XP) Running the same client - server connection on other machine the connection is kept open forever like it should be.     Hi Folks, I am successful to map an external directory by creating an xml file like : <Context path="/uploads" docBase="C:\uploads\photos" crossContext="true"/> And I named this xml file as uploads.xml and saved under "#Tomcat\conf\Catalina\localhost" here # = Directory where Tomcat has been installed. And when I start Tomcat(5) from cammand line (batch file) i.e. startup.bat The images can be accessed normally like "http://localhost:8080/uploads/user1.png" It works. Actually I am using IntelliJ Idea 8 for devevelopment. When I start Tomcat from IntelliJ Idea, I am not able to access the context i.e. the images. "http://localhost:8080/uploads/user1.png" It shows "HTTP 400 Bad Request" The context path for my project is "http://localhost:8080/spark/" Any help or suggestion is needed at the earliest time.     Hi, I need to make calls from webpage to external library written in C++ and display the result. Platform is Linux, Apache, PHP. My current idea is to use PHP service which will call my library/program. I found that there are two possible ways to do this: 1) use PHP 'exec' function 2) write PHP extension I am curious what works more effective? Faster? Less load the server? I will probably need to do 4 calls per second, so I want to be as optimal as possible. P.S.
