  • What is the best API in any language for Audio and MIDI music application development?

    What, in your opinion, is the best API to utilize in developing an application that handles both realtime MIDI and audio input and output? This would be for an application that is used in the process of making music as opposed to playing audio or MIDI files. I'm aware that this may be a subjective question, but if you know of an API that is dominantly used for these purposes, please share it. I'm agnostic about which language the API is for, and I also don't care about portability. The real concern is for an API that is well documented, well designed (e.g. thought out and intuitive to developers using it), and actively maintained. OS portability would be nice, but it is second to having an API/Language that meets the previous requirements. Please note that the emphasis is not on API's for sound synthesis or for composing music with code. It is intended for the handling of sound file and MIDI data in a real-time context.

  • Toggle-able USB hub with more than one input and output?

    I recently came across this product: http://ppa-usa.com/shared-network-hub-4-port-usb.html The only problem is, this is nearly opposite of what I need. Ideally, I'm looking for a USB hub-like device that can accept at least two devices for input, and toggle those two devices between at least 2 PC's. The hub linked above appears to be only able to accept one device. Does anyone know of such a product?

    If I understand this system call "select" correctly, it will loop waiting for user input from the keyboard or from an outside server. Every time I call "message_loop", I'm going to type in the same few lines of input each time.     I want to try mounting a folder with NFS - I set up the NFS sharing on a windows 2008 R2 server, specified hosts in the NFS permissions (by IP address) and mounted via /etc/fstab it mounts, but when I try to list the folder, I get 'input/output error' the owner/group on the local mount point look weird too? drwx------ 2 4294967294 4294967294 4096 2011-02-10 19:15 data/ I mounted in /etc/fstab as: 10.0.6.55:/share$ /media/data nfs soft,intr,rsize=8192,wsize=8192 What am I doing wrong?

  • What scripting language would you use to put text over a generated image ?

    I got this question from my cousin: "What will be the best way to create a similar working website just like: http://www.plakletters.nl". I have looked into the website and think that to start of with i'm gonna help my cousin write a script that loads all fonts installed on the system into a dropdownlist. This dropdownlist will post a font value back to the page and will create images with the input of a user that comes from a textbox. This images will have to be created server side, and I also want to give the users the ability (in the future) to lay their own text over an uploaded image, to see what the result will look like on their own image. I found some information about how to create images using php, I don't know if php can output a list of installed fonts from the system it's running on. What scripting language would you use to get this job done? Keep in mind i would just like to start with outputting some images based on user input using a scripting language.

    I am fairly new to F#, but have spent the last few weeks reading reference materials. I wish to process a user-supplied input string, identifying and separating the constituent elements. For example, for this input: XYZ Hotel: 6 nights at 220EUR / night plus 17.5% tax the output should resemble something like a list of tuples: [ ("XYZ", Word); ("Hotel:", Word); ("6", Number); ("nights", Word); ("at", Operator); ("220", Number); ("EUR", CurrencyCode); ("/", Operator); ("night", Word); ("plus", Operator); ("17.5", Number); ("%", PerCent); ("tax", Word) ] Since I'm dealing with user input, it could be anything. Thus, expecting users to comply with a grammar is out of the question. I want to identify the numbers (could be integers, floats, negative...), the units of measure (optional, but could include SI or Imperial physical units, currency codes, counts such as "night/s" in my example), mathematical operators (as math symbols or as words including "at" "per", "of", "discount", etc), and all other words. I have the impression that I should use active pattern matching -- is that correct? -- but I'm not exactly sure how to start. Any pointers to appropriate reference material or similar examples would be great.

    I'm trying to emulate some pseudo-classes and attribute selectors in Internet Explorer 6 and 7, such as :focus, :hover or [type=text].   • Android layouts within layouts, with separate classes handling their input?

    Hey all, I have created a program in Java that uses Jpanels within Jpanels. One example of this is having a side view containing buttons that change the main view when pressed. The main view also has buttons that can be used to alter itself. I am trying to re-create this on the android. I have my layout set up from an xml, with a side panel containing buttons and the main view. There is another xml that contains what I want in the main view. Now I am struggling to get this separate xml to be displayed in the main view and can’t figure out how I would get the class to handle its own input. I don’t want to paste the code into the main.xml as I want to keep things object orientated and each view needs some custom elements such as different textviews. An example of what I am trying to convert for the android is below:- //The ViewInt class has its own layout ViewInt tempView = new ViewInt(i, mFloorNo); //The viewInt class is then added to the main window. mainWindowPanel.add(tempView); This small bit of code would create a view, add it to the main view and then any input in the main window is handled by that class, but at the same time any input not in this main window is handled by another class (probably the root class). Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks. To clarify: The program has a side panel layout, containing buttons. And a main view layout that is empty. I am trying to set a .xml layout to this main view layout, and have it so that if any buttons are pressed in that main view then a class for that layout will handle it.

And after if i click on row(anyrow), i want to rollback previous operation. i.e. replace texts with html element. and htmlElement.val()=text. Even though I have set their widths to be 100%, the select box is a few pixels smaller than the input.   • from JS to iphone dev - what's the best language to start with?

    I am a total beginner and would like to eventually learn to develop for the iphone. I have just done a beginner's CS course where the language we learned was JavaScript. We studied basic concepts like: variables, arrays, loops (for,while,if,if..else..), properties and functions. I'm wondering if I am starting in the right/wrong place by following this book: Learn C on the Mac by Dave Mark? I have read a few chapters and am finding it a bit hard to get my head around the way that C works, for example the way that Strings are printed seems overly complicated as compared to JS. Do you think that JS was the wrong language to start off with and would I be better to go from JS straight to Objective-C rather than to C? I have tried to read up on previous threads on the merits/demerits of learning C first but haven't found any that relate JS to learning C/Obj C/ Cocoa. Any advice appreciated as I am very new to this. Thanks

  • How to optimize this simple function which translates input bits into words?

    I have written a function which reads an input buffer of bytes and produces an output buffer of words where every word can be either 0x0081 for each ON bit of the input buffer or 0x007F for each OFF bit. The length of the input buffer is given. Both arrays have enough physical place. I also have about 2Kbyte free RAM which I can use for lookup tables or so. Now, I found that this function is my bottleneck in a real time application. It will be called very frequently. Can you please suggest a way how to optimize this function?   • Acer aspire 5735z wireless not working after upgrade to 11.10

    I cant get my wifi card to work at all after upgrading to 11.10 Oneiric. I'm not sure where to start to fix this. Ive tried using the additional drivers tool but this shows that no additional drivers are needed. Before my upgrade I had a drivers working for the Rt2860 chipset.     I am aware that websites can be translated from many languages into English thanks to Google Translate. If I receive documentation via email that is in a language other than English, how straight forward is it to translate into English on my PC or Apple Mac? (indeed is Google Translate involved or is it strictly for websites) Similarly if I receive documentation via the normal postal mail service (termed "snail mail" if I'm correct) which needs to be translated into English, what steps need to be taken for this documentation to be translated effectively & quickly on my PC or Apple Mac (I am aware of the term Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, and is this costly, or do free alternatives exist to carry out the translation process solely online? ).
