• Can I monitor traffic on my Incoming Dialup connection using Wireshark?

  Hi, I am trying to create a RAS server in XP Pro. The idea is to log in to this server via a dialup connection. I have set up a new network connection via the New Connect Wizard in XP - according to this tutorial on techrepublic. I am sure that the modem and the connection is working, I have tested it. However, I want to monitor incoming network traffic on this connection. So I thought I would use Wireshark. The problem is that Wireshark does not list this incoming connection on the front page. It lists all my other network connections, ( e.g. my ethernet connection ) but not this one. Whats the best way to monitor traffic on this connection?

  I'm setting up an nginx server for the first time, and having some trouble getting the rewrite rules right for nginx. • Bluetooth RFCOMM / SDP connection to a RS232 adapter in android

  Hello All, I am trying to use the Bluetooth Chat sample API app that google provides to connect to a bluetooth RS232 adapter hooked up to another device. Here is the app for reference: http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/BluetoothChat/index.html And here is the spec sheet for the RS232 connector just for reference: http://serialio.com/download/Docs/BlueSnap-guide-4.77_Commands.pdf Well the problem is that when I go to connect to the device with: mmSocket.connect(); (BluetoothSocket::connect()) I always get an IOException error thrown by the connect() method. When I do a toString on the exception I get "Service discovery failed". My question is mostly what are the cases that would cause an IOException to get thrown in the connect method? I know those are in the source somewhere but I don't know exactly how the java layer that you write apps in and the C/C++ layer that contains the actual stacks interface. I know that it uses the bluez bluetooth stack which is written in C/C++ but not sure how that ties into the java layer which is what I would think is throwing the exception. Any help on pointing me to where I can try to dissect this issue would be incredible. Also just to note I am able to pair with the RS232 adapter just fine but I am never able to actually connect. The Android API provides examples of using listenUsingRfcommWithServiceRecord() to set up a socket and createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord() to connect to that socket. I'm trying to connect to an embedded device with a BlueSMiRF Gold chip. My working Python code (using the PyBluez library), which I'd like to port to Android, is as follows: sock = bluetooth.BluetoothSocket(proto=bluetooth.RFCOMM) sock.connect((device_addr, 1)) return sock.makefile() ...so the service to connect to is simply defined as channel 1, without any SDP lookup. As the only documented mechanism I see in the Android API does SDP lookup of a UUID, I'm slightly at a loss. Using "sdptool browse" from my Linux host comes up empty, so I surmise that the chip in question simply lacks SDP support.

• WCF app Deployed on Win7 Machine and get connection refused error

  I have created a Sync Framework application based on the following sample from microsoft and deployed it to a new Windows 7 machine for testing. The app runs ok but when I attempt to communicate I get the following error: Could not connect to http://localhost:8000/RelationalSyncContract/SqlSyncService/. TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:8000. I am wondering if there is something I am missing. This is my first experience using WCF and followed microsoft sample code. I have disabled the firewall and opened port 8000 for both TCP and UDP. Not sure what to look at next. • Token replacement

  Hey, I currently have a system on my website whereby I can put something like "[cfe]" anywhere in the site and, when the page is rendered, it will replace it with the root to the customer front end (same for "[afe]" and admin front end - so in the admin front end I can put "[cfe]/Default.aspx" to link to the homepage on the customer front end. This is in place as I have a development version of the site, then a test and a live version too. All 3 may have different roots to each section (for example the way the website is set up, the root to the admin front end in test is "/test/Administration/", but in live and development it is just "/Administration/"). Which version it is depends on the URL - all my development sites are in a folder called "development", whereas test is in a folder called "test" and any live urls do not contain either of these. There are also 3 different databases - one for each. All 3, obviously, require a different connection string. I also have a string replacement function in place which can change, for example, "[Product:Cards]" to point to the Cards catalogue page. Problem is that for this I go through all the products and do a replacement on "[Product:" & Product.Name() & "]". However I would like to take this further. I would like to pick up these custom strings when the page is rendered so it picks up "[Product:Cards]" and then goes off to find product "Cards" and replaces the string with a link to the Cards page, rather than looping through all the products and doing a replace just on the off chance that there are any replacements to make. One use for this, which I may start using in the future if I can figure out how to do this, is like on Wikipedia where you put the title of the page you want to point to, then a divider (think its a pipe from memory) then the link text. I would like to apply this to the above situation. This way broken links can also be picked up, and reported to admin (a major advantage as they can then locate them and remove the link or add the product / page that it refers to). I would like to take this to the stage where content of entire pages can be rearranged (kinda like web parts, but not as advanced as that). I mean like so you can put [layout type="3columnImageTopRight" image="imageurl"]Content here[/layout]. This will display, as specified, an image in the top right (with padding at the left and bottom) and 3 columns - maybe with the image spanning one or two columns). The imageurl can be specified as another token: maybe like [Image:imagename.gif] or something. This replaces it with the root to the image folder and then the specified filename. I have not really looked into how I am going to split the content into 3 columns yet, but this would be something to look at for my dissertation and then implement after my project deadline at least. Does anyone have any ideas or pointers which could help me with this? Also if this is not strictly token replacement then please point me to what it is, so I can further develop this.   Let me first give an example. Imagine you have a single server running a JVM application. This server keeps a collection of N equations, once for each client: Client #1: 2x Client #2: 1 + y Client #3: z/4 This server includes an HTTP interface so that random visitors can type https://www.acme.com/client/3 int their browsers and see the latest evaluated result of z/4. The tricky part is that either the client or the server may change the variable value at any time, informing the other party immediately. More specifically, Client #3 - a C app - can initially tell the server that z = 20. An hour later that same client informs the server that z = 23. Likewise the server can later inform the client that z = 28. As caf pointed out in the comments, there can be a race condition when values are changed by the client and server simultaneously. The solution would be for both client and server to send the operation performed in their message, which would need to be executed by the other party. To keep things simple, let's limit the operations to (commutative) addition, allowing us to disregard message ordering. For example, the client seeds the server with z = 20: server:z=20, client:z=20 server sends {+3} message (so z=23 locally) & client sends {-2} message (so z=18 locally) at the exact same time server receives {-2} message at some point, adds to his local copy so z=21 client receives {+3} message at some point, adds to his local copy so z=21 As long as all messages are eventually evaluated by both parties, the correct answer will eventually be given to the users of the client and server since we limited ourselves to commutative operations (addition of 3 and -2). This does mean that both client and server can be returning incorrect answers in the time it takes for messages to be exchanged and processed. While undesirable, I believe this is unavoidable. Some possible implementations of this idea include: Open an encrypted, always on TCP socket connection for communication Pros: no additional infrastructure needed, client and server know immediately if there is a problem (disconnect) with the other party, fairly straightforward (except the the encryption), native support from both JVM and C platforms Cons: pretty low-level so you end up writing a lot yourself (protocol, delivery verification, retry-on-failure logic), probably have a lot of firewall headaches during client app installation Asynchronous messaging (ex: ActiveMQ) Pros: transactional, both C & Java integration, free up the client and server apps from needing retry logic or delivery verification, pretty straightforward encryption, easy extensibility via message filters/routers/etc Cons: need additional infrastructure (message server) which must never fail, Database or file system as asynchronous integration point Same pros/cons as above but messier RESTful Web Service Pros: simple, possible reuse of the server's existing REST API, SSL figures out the encryption problem for you (maybe use RSA key a la GitHub for authentication?) Cons: Client now needs to run a C HTTP REST server w/SSL, client and server need retry logic. Axis2 has both a Java and C version, but you may be limited to SOAP. • Validate a string in a table in SQL Server - CLR function or T-SQL

  I need to check If a column value (string) in SQL server table starts with a small letter and can only contain '_', '-', numbers and alphabets. I know I can use a SQL server CLR function for that. However, I am trying to implement that validation using a scalar UDF and could make very little here...I can use 'NOT LIKE', but I am not sure how to make sure I validate the string irrespective of the order of characters or in other words write a pattern in SQL for this. Am I better off using a SQL CLR function? Any help will be appreciated.. Thanks in advance Thank you everyone for their comments. This morning, I chose to go CLR function way. For the purpose of what I was trying to achieve, I created one CLR function which does the validation of an input string and have that called from a SQL UDF and It works well. Just to measure the performance of t-SQL UDF using SQL CLR function vs t- SQL UDF, I created a SQL CLR function which will just check if the input string contains only small letters, it should return true else false and have that called from a UDF (IsLowerCaseCLR). After that I also created a regular t-SQL UDF(IsLowerCaseTSQL) which does the same thing using the 'NOT LIKE'. Then I created a table (Person) with columns Name(varchar) and IsValid(bit) columns and populate that with names to test. Data :- 1000 records with 'Ashish' as value for Name column 1000 records with 'ashish' as value for Name column then I ran the following :- UPDATE Person Set IsValid=1 WHERE dbo.IsLowerCaseTSQL (Name) Above updated 1000 records (with Isvalid=1) and took less than a second. I deleted all the data in the table and repopulated the same with same data. Then updated the same table using Sql CLR UDF (with Isvalid=1) and this took 3 seconds! If update happens for 5000 records, regular UDF takes 0 seconds compared to CLR UDF which takes 16 seconds! I am very less knowledgeable on t-SQL regular expression or I could have tested my actual more complex validation criteria. But I just wanted to know, even I could have written that, would that have been faster than the SQL CLR function considering the example above. Are we using SQL CLR because we can implement we can implement lot richer logic which would have been difficult otherwise If we write in regular SQL. Sorry for this long post. A filename (string) will be passed to a function (openFile) and I wanted that function to do different things based on what file has been passed through, it could be image files or pdf files. function openFile(file) { //if .jpg/.gif/.png do something //if .zip/.rar do something else //if .pdf do something else }; I've been looking for something that will find the file's extension but I can't seem to find anything.

• C# and NpgsqlDataAdapter returning a single string instead of a data table

  I have a postgresql db and a C# application to access it. I'm having a strange error with values I return from a NpgsqlDataAdapter.Fill command into a DataSet. However, if instead of doing a select on all (*) if I try to name individual columns to return from the query I get the information I asked for, but rather than being split up into seperate entries in the data table I get a string in the first index of the data table that looked something like: "(0,5,false,Bob Smith,7)" And the data is correct, I would be expecting 0, then 5, then a boolean, then some text etc. But I would (obviously) prefer it to not be returned as just one big string. Anyone know why if I do a select on * I get a datatable as expected, but if I do a select on specific columns I get a data table with one entry that is the string of the values I'm asking for?
