  • iPhone - extending a class delegate

    - by Digital Robot
OK, I know how to create a class extension, using something like that: on .h @interface UIButton (myExtensionName) // my extended methods @end and then on .m @implementation UIButton (myExtensionName) // my implementations @end But how do I declare the extended delegates I may create? If this was a normal class I would do @protocol myExtensionName <NSObject> // my delegate declarations @end but how do I do that on a class extension? thanks

  • [iPhone app] Detecting which key has been pressed in UITextField

    - by Dough
Hi, I have an UITextField object in my view and want to launch a method when user press backspace button and textField is empty. First I have to do is to create a cursor storing text length, so when cursor changes from 1 to 0 there is nothing to do. The only way to launch the method is when text length is 0 - press backspace - remain to 0. How to catch the event of pressing the backspace key in my UITextField ? Thanks in advance !

  • segemented control in iphone not appearing as in interface builder

    - by zecougar
here is what i see in IB and here is what appears in the simulator i've used a segmented control with style = "Bezelled". When i change the style to "Bar", IB and simulator are consistent in the display. the style is set in interface builder and not in code, if that matters Also - the edges look rather ugly in the simulator. not what i expected even when it rendered incorrectly. Thanks in advance

  • iphone dev - how to catch exception 'NSRangeException'

    - by Brian
In my app I try to scroll a UITableView to the top once after I updated the content of the table. However, under some circumstance, my table is EMPTY. So I got the following exception: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSRangeException', reason: '-[UITableView scrollToRowAtIndexPath:atScrollPosition:animated:]: row (0) beyond bounds (0) for section (0).' how can I catch this exception? I tried NSIndexPath *indexPath = [NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:0 inSection:0]; if (indexPath != nil) { [EventTable scrollToRowAtIndexPath:indexPath atScrollPosition:UITableViewScrollPositionTop animated:YES]; } but it doesn't catch the exception because indexPath is not nil.

  • iPhone: How can you draw a piece of an image

    - by Mark
Code sample - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { [super drawRect:rect]; CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); CGContextSaveGState(context); CGContextTranslateCTM(context, 0, self.frame.size.height); CGContextScaleCTM(context, 1.0, -1.0); CGContextDrawImage(context, CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, self.frame.size.width, self.frame.size.height), [UIImage imageNamed:@"sample.png"].CGImage); CGContextRestoreGState(context); } ================ I would like to copy a certain rect within an image to the context, so not the entire image is drawn but just a piece of the image. Does anyone have a solution for this? I can't find anything on google nor the documentation. I know there are alternatives like: 1. Create a UIView with clipping and then just position the UIImageView within it. 2. Create the UIImageView within the UIScrollView and use content offset. But I think those are lame...

  • iPhone - sorting the results of a core data entity

    - by Digital Robot
I have a core data entity that represents the attributes of a product, as number, price, etc. The product number is a NSString property and follows the form X.y where X is a number variable of digits and Y is one digit. For example. 132.2, 99.4, etc. I am querying the database to obtain the list of product numbers in order: The code is like this: + (NSArray*)todosOsItens:(NSString *)pName inManagedObjectContext:(NSManagedObjectContext *)context { Product *aProduct = [Product productWithName:pName inManagedObjectContext:context]; NSArray *all = nil; NSFetchRequest *request = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; request.entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Attributes" inManagedObjectContext:context]; request.predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat: @"(belongsTo == %@)", aProduct]; [request setResultType:NSDictionaryResultType]; [request setReturnsDistinctResults:YES]; [request setPropertiesToFetch:[NSArray arrayWithObject:item]]; NSSortDescriptor *sortByItem = [NSSortDescriptor sortDescriptorWithKey:@"ProductNumber" ascending:YES]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [NSArray arrayWithObject:sortByItem]; [request setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; NSError *error = nil; all = [[context executeFetchRequest:request error:&error] mutableCopy]; [request release]; return all; } but this query is not returning the sorted results. The results are coming on their natural order on the database. How do I do that? thanks.

  • iPhone - Landscape Only App

    - by Robert
Hello all! I am trying to make an app that will only be viewed in Landscape. I have looked up some tutorials (albeit older ones) and have done the following: -set up the info.plist to include a key for uiinterfaceorientation -in the main view controller I have set the frame to be 480 x 320 Now, the first screen loads up ok. Everything is where it should be and whatnot. However, if I click a button that is set to present a modal view controller nothing happens. Everything is linked and coded correctly but nothing happens when I press the button. Am I doing something wrong with trying to force landscape? At it's basic, this question is a how do you effectively make an app that will only be in landscape mode? Thanks for any help.

  • How to tell iPhone NSURLConnection to abort

    - by Jahmic
I have an app that makes moderate use of NSURLConnection. These async calls eventually finish and release properly (it looks like), but sometimes it takes some time for them to finish. So, there are times when I exit the app, (note, not just sending it the background), that some of these connections are still active. If I immediately restart the app, the app freezes on startup. (didFinishLaunchingWithOptions never seems to get called). While I'm not certain these connections are the issue, it would probably be good to terminate or cancel any remaining. Any suggestions on how to do this? Bonus points on how to debug the restart also. (I'm already saving NSLog statements to a downloadable file)

  • Iphone SDK on Windows (alternative solutions)

    - by Cyclone
I know there is no official SDK for windows, which is very annoying. Is there any way to develop applications on a windows computer, other than somehow running a mac os in vmware? I know you can do it with Xcode, but that is also only for macs. Google searches have revealed absolutely nothing...... If I cannot use the SDK or Xcode, any way I can just check syntax or something and just make my code in Notepad and save it with the proper extension? I have no idea whether or not I would be able to do that, probably because I have never even tried the SDK and probably never will without buying a mac.

  • Memory leak when application loads in iPhone

    - by iPhoneDev
I have a navigation based template, when I run my application using Instruments, the very first memory leak comes under: Leak Object: Malloc 128 bytes Responsible Library: CoreGraphics Responsible Frame: open_handle_to_dylib_path I don't know where this leak is coming from and how remove this. If it's a default leak, then I think I don't need to worry about it. But if it's not then I have to find a way to remove the leak.

  • Displaying text in UILabel in iPhone

    - by SeniorLee
OK. What's wrong with my code? - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; lblResult = [UILabel alloc]; } - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { lblResult.text = @"BlahBlah"; } I linked lblResult to Label object in IB well. But the label only shows the default text. Where's my BlahBlah?? And when the default string I set in the IB actually set to lblResult?? The reason that BlahBlah string is not displyed is I guess because lblResult.text is over-written by default string specified from IB. Just my guess. Can anyone make me clear with that?

  • iPhone internationalization: falling back to a default language

    - by MihaiD
Consider the following situation: We have two Localizable.string files, one in en.lproj and one in it.lproj When the user switches to English or Italian, the proper localized string is loaded using NSLocalizedString(@"keyword", nil) If one of the files is missing the keyword, the string is not retrieved Is there any way to make this macro load the string from a specific language if it's keyword is not found in the current locale's Localizable.string?

  • Want to mimic iphone address book search (In terms of interface & interaction)

    - by mr-sk
Hi, When you do a search in the address book the flow is: 1) Select the search bar 2) The right most transparent a-z index is removed 3) A transparent black window is placed over the current UITableView 4) When you begin typing, a new UITableView is loaded with no data 5) The UITableView is populated with data as you type. 6) If you select an item you are brought to it 7) If you cancel the search you return to the main UITalbeView My first real question is, how do I load a new UITableView when a user begins searching? Is it as easy as popping a new view on the stack? It would then be a seperate .m/.h file with its own implementation? The second question is how do you remove the right most index? Or just that just go away when you render the new (blank) UITableView? I've gotten search working, but mine does it in the same UITableView, which when you start contains like 2K results, is grouped (A results under A Heading, etc) and has a right most index. I'd be happy leaving the results in the table, if I could; 1) Remove the rightmost a-z index 2) Drop the table groupings 3) Tell the view I only have N search results so it will build the scroll bar correctly. Thanks for your input; sk

  • iPhone memory management (with specific examples/questions)

    - by donkim
Hey all. I know this question's been asked but I still don't have a clear picture of memory management in Objective-C. I feel like I have a pretty good grasp of it, but I'd still like some correct answers for the following code. I have a series of examples that I'd love for someone(s) to clarify. Setting a value for an instance variable. Say I have an NSMutableArray variable. In my class, when I initialize it, do I need to call a retain on it? Do I do fooArray = [[[NSMutableArray alloc] init] retain]; or fooArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; Does doing [[NSMutableArray alloc] init] already set the retain count to 1, so I wouldn't need to call retain on it? On the other hand, if I called a method that I know returns an autoreleased object, I would for sure have to call retain on it, right? Like so: fooString = [[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d items", someInt] retain]; Properties. I ask about the retain because I'm a bit confused about how @property's automatic setter works. If I had set fooArray to be a @property with retain set, Objective-C will automatically create the following setter, right? - (void)setFooArray:(NSMutableArray *)anArray { [fooArray release]; fooArray = [anArray retain]; } So, if I had code like this: self.fooArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; (which I believe is valid code), Objective-C creates a setter method that calls retain on the value assigned to fooArray. In this case, will the retain count actually be 2? Correct way of setting a value of a property. I know there are questions on this and (possibly) debates, but which is the right way to set a @property? This? self.fooArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; Or this? NSMutableArray *anArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; self.fooArray = anArray; [anArray release]; I'd love to get some clarification on these examples. Thanks!

  • Help: List contents of iPhone application bundle subpath??

    - by bluepill
Hi, I am trying to get a listing of the directories contained within a subpath of my application bundle. I've done some searching and this is what I have come up with - (void) contents { NSArray *contents = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathsForResourcesOfType:nil inDirectory:@"DataDir"]; if (contents = nil) { NSLog(@"Failed: path doesn't exist or error!"); } else { NSString *bundlePathName = [[NSBundle mainBundle] bundlePath]; NSString *dataPathName = [bundlePathName stringByAppendingPathComponent: @"DataDir"]; NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; NSMutableArray *directories = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; for (NSString *entityName in contents) { NSString *fullEntityName = [dataPathName stringByAppendingPathComponent:entityName]; NSLog(@"entity = %@", fullEntityName); BOOL isDir = NO; [fileManager fileExistsAtPath:fullEntityName isDirectory:(&isDir)]; if (isDir) { [directories addObject:fullEntityName]; NSLog(@" is a directory"); } else { NSLog(@" is not a directory"); } } NSLog(@"Directories = %@", directories); [directories release]; } } As you can see I am trying to get a listing of directories in the app bundle's DataDir subpath. The problem is that I get no strings in my contents NSArray. note: - I am using the simulator - When I manually look in the .app file I can see DataDir and the contents therein - The contents of DataDir are png files and directories that contain png files - The application logic needs to discover the contents of DataDir at runtime - I have also tried using NSArray *contents = [fileManager contentsOfDirectoryAtPath:DataDirPathName error:nil]; and I still get no entries in my contents array Any suggestions/alternative approaches? Thanks.

  • Replace existing XML file within iPhone app

    - by Chonch
Hey, I have an .xml file that is going to be shipped within my app. This file contains values that are read from it and saved as an array when the app launches. Each time the app is run, I want to check with the server if there is an internet connection. If so, I want to get the newest version of the .xml file from the server and replace the one that I currently have saved in my app (this way, the next time the user logs in and doesn't have internet access, he/she will be able to use the old (yet most up to date) data). What is the best way to do this? Thanks,

  • Facebook connect with iPhone not working?

    - by Atulkumar V. Jain
Hi Everybody, I am trying to use Facebook connect in my application, but its not working as I desire. When I am trying to use the API Key and the API SecretKey of my application which I have registered with the facebook its not working. I have downloaded the code for the facebook. In the SessionViewController.m file when I pass my key values its not working. What I am trying to achieve is, when the app launches the first page is the Facebook Login Page. The user enters his username and password and then the next view should display. But nothing is happening, even the label doesn't display the username. Heres the code which I am using - (void)request:(FBRequest*)request didLoad:(id)result { NSArray* users = result; NSDictionary* user = [users objectAtIndex:0]; NSString* name = [user objectForKey:@"name"]; _label.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"Logged in as %@",name]; NSLog(@"Username is :- %@",name); FrontController *main = [[FrontController alloc] init]; [self.view addSubview:main.view]; [main release]; } I am not able to figure out what is wrong with this code. When I try with some other key values such as the key for connect application its working fine. Can anyone help me with this... Thanx in advance...

  • PDF search on the iPhone

    - by pt2ph8
After two days trying to read annotations from a PDF using Quartz, I've managed to do it and posted my code. Now I'd like to do the same for another frequently asked question: searching PDF documents with Quartz. Same situation as before, this question has been asked many times with almost no practical answers. So I need some pointers first, as I still haven't implemented this myself. What I tried: I tried using CGPDFScannerScan handling the TJ and Tj operators - returns the right text on some PDF, whereas on other documents it returns mostly random letters. Maybe it's related to text encoding? Someone pointed out that text blocks (marked by BT/ET operators) should be handled instead, but I still haven't managed to do so. Anyone managed to extract text from any PDF? After that, searching should be easy by storing all the text in a NSMutableString and using rangeOfString (if there's a better way please let me know). But then how to highlight the result? I know there are a few operators to find the glyph sizes, so I could calculate the resulting rect based on those values, but I've been reading the spec for hours... it's a bloated mess and I'm going insane. Anyone with a practical explanation? Thanks.

  • popViewControllerAnimated doesn't update info iPhone SDK

    - by WrightsCS
    When I try to pop a view controller, it doesnt update info for the previous view. Example: I have a cell that displays text in a label in View1. When you click on the cell it goes to View2 (for example) When I choose an option in View2, popViewControllerAnimated is used to go back to View1, however, I want the label to now be updated with the new option in View1. My dilemma is that when I pop View2, the label in View1 does not update. Any ideas? I've tried adding a [view1 reloadData]; before the view pops, but no luck. //VIEW1 the cell that displays the label. ringLabel = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame: CGRectMake(25, 12.7f, 250, 20)]; ringLabel.adjustsFontSizeToFitWidth = YES; ringLabel.textColor = [UIColor blackColor]; ringLabel.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize:17.0]; ringLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; ringLabel.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentLeft; ringLabel.tag = 0; ringLabel.text = [plistDict objectForKey:@"MYOPTION"]; [ringLabel setEnabled:YES]; [cell addSubview: ringLabel]; [ringLabel release]; //VIEW2 when cell clicked CustomProfileViewController *cpvc = [CustomProfileViewController alloc]; cpvc.ringtone = [ringList objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; [cpvc.tblCustomTable reloadData]; [self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated:YES];

  • iPhone screen rotates at random !

    - by Baldoph
I use a tabBar Controller as root controller. It has 4 tabs and each of its ViewControllers has - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)toInterfaceOrientation { return YES; } as long as the tabBarController itself. But when I rotate the device (real or simulator), the screen turns at random! If it doesn't turn when I open the application it would have the same behavior until I quit the app. I tried to add the 4 viewControllers one by one in IB to see if one was problematic, but I obtained the same issue. It only always works when there is no tabs at all! Please tell me if you have any ideas. Thanks!
