Is it possible to add a button to the right corner of the app title?
e.g., adding a "refresh" button to the title of "Feed: my feeds"?

Our organization has a lot of its essential data in a mainframe Adabas database. We have ODBC access to this data and from C# have queried/updated it successfully using ODBC/Natural "stored procedures".
What we'd like to be able to do now is to query a mainframe table from within SQL Server 2005 stored procs, dump the results into a table variable, massage it, and join the result with native SQL data as a result set.
The execution of the Natural proc from SQL works fine when we're just selecting it; however, when we insert the result into a table variable SQL seems to be starting a distributed transaction that in turn seems to be wreaking havoc with our connections.
Given that we're not performing updates, is it possible to turn off this DTC-escalation behavior?
Any tips on getting DTC set up properly to talk to DataDirect's (formerly Neon Systems) Shadow ODBC driver?
Apple doesn't want anyone to create iPhone apps outside of the Xcode/Objective-C environment. How can they actually reinforce this?
If the other IDE's, for example Unity, compiles to an iPhone executable, how will Apple know which dev environment you used to create the app? Can they have Xcode compile some sort of signature into the executable that no one knows about?
I am looking for resources to develop HTML5 apps for iphone primarily. Are their frameworks and tools that I can use to get started? I am looking for:
Javascript frameworks that help with UI layout
Touch based controls for phones
Articles on iphone development, best practices, etc.
I searched stackoverflow and was not able to come up with a good list of resources. I am looking for examples like these http://jqtouch.com/
In Salesforce you can set up various workflow processes or build API apps that send email. For most standard Salesforce orgs, there is a limit of 1000 emails per day. (e.g. see here)
I can't find any info on what happens after you reach the limit.
e.g. what sort of errors occur, and are administrators automatically notified?
I have a legacy HTTP server where I need to send an XML file over HTTP request (POST) using Java (not browser) and the server will respond with another XML in its HTTP response. It is similar to Web Service but there's no WSDL and I have to follow the existing XML structure to construct my XML to be sent.
I have done a research and found an example that matches my requirement here. The example uses HttpClient from Apache Commons. (There are also other examples I found but they use java.net networking package (like URLConnection) which is tedious so I don't want to use them).
But it's also my requirement to use Spring and JMS.
I know from Spring's reference that it's possible to combine HttpClient, JMS and Spring. My question is, how?
Note that it's NOT in my requirement to use HttpClient. If you have a better suggestion, I'm welcome.
Appreciate it.
For your reference, here's the XML-over-HTTP example I've been talking about:

I have put some instructions in onLowMemory() callback and want to test the same. Is there a "direct" way to test onLowMemory function of the application subclass?
Or will I have to just overload the phone by starting many apps and doing memory intensive tasks?
Thanks.
Coming from J2ME programming are there any similarities that would make it easy to adapt to Android API. Or is Andorid API completely different from the J2ME way of programming mobile apps.
I'm considering various ways to partition my data in SQL Server. One approach I'm looking at is to partition a particular huge table into 8 partitions, then within each of these partitions to partition on a different partition column. Is this even possible in SQL Server, or am I limited to definining one parition column+function+scheme per table?
I'm interested in the more general answer, but this strategy is one I'm considering for Distributed Partitioned View, where I'd partition the data under the first scheme using DPV to distribute the huge amount of data over 8 machines, and then on each machine partition that portion of the full table on another parition key in order to be able to drop (for example) sub-paritions as required.
Hi! I've written a simple server application which will run distributed on several machines.
My question is how does a network load balancer works, in general?
I've heard of round-robin and other algorithms, but what I haven't got answer to is how does the process really goes? In socket terms.
The client connects to one of the load balancer machines, asks for a "free-to-connect-to" server and simply connects to it?
That's the simpliest way I can think of.
.. or, does it use the load balancer as a proxy (that implies that all the NBs must be always connected to the application servers, and data is transferred through them)?
It's more of a general question. How would you do this?
Thank you all!
Is the ASP.NET 4.0 SQL session state mechanism backward-compatible with the ASP.NET 2.0 schema for session state, or should/must we create a separate and distinct session state database for our ASP.NET 4.0 apps?
I'm leaning towards the latter anyway, but the 2.0 database seems to just work, though I'm wondering if there are any substantive differences between the ASPState database schema / procedures between the 2.0 and 4.0 versions of ASP.NET. Thank you.
Is it possible to develop iphone apps with java? I'd prefer to use alchemo over xmlvm because of the superior features that it offers. Can I do that? Is anyone else doing that? I've looked all over their site for the download link, but can't find it! Is it available? If so, where?

I want my app to read a XML via internet.
Also I want to keep the previously download xml so next time I may not need to download again until certain hours is passed or whatever period of time according to settings.
Do you recommend me to download it first and store locally before process it? Or should I process it while downloading (with libxml2 I guess)?
What do you usually with apps using remote XML?
Targeting 3.0 devices btw.
Miguel de Icaza announced a new project today called MonoMac, to develop apps for the Mac using Mono and C#: http://tirania.org/blog/archive/2010/Apr-19.html
In the post, he provides links to the subversion repositories, but are there any builds of it available for download?
Hi Guys,
Anybody have any idea about how to broadcast videos in iPhone? I found two apps in some blogs, Ustream(working in iPhone) and QiK(working in jailbroken iPhone). And also i got some info from this link
http://sol3.typepad.com/tagalong_developer_journa/2009/07/recorded-video-from-iphone-3gs-.html
But i need some more info. Help me to develop a broadcasting app, please
With Apple making changes to section 3.3.1 on the iPhone dev agreement can one stillness libraries like boost in their apps?
I want to use Boost in my iPad app...
Hi,
I want to add "Nickname" in Google Contact using "Google.GData.Extensions.Apps" .
I am able to create Nickname as:
NicknameElement obj_nickname = new NicknameElement();
obj_nickname.Name = " Jenifer";
But how to add i to Contact Entry?
I am trying to launch an appstore page with either of the calls:
[[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/myappname/id999999999?mt=8"]];
[[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.itunes.com/apps/myappname"]];
Both of these urls work when I enter them in a browser. However, from both simulator and device, I get a "Your request could not be completed" error dialog right after it appears to try to launch the appstore.
Is there something obvious that I'm doing wrong?
Hello,
We work on multiple geographically seperate sites.
Today I have our git clones all live on one site A. Then users from site B have to ssh over to do a git clone or to push in changes. These are bare repos where the update is through pushes.
Ideally, for git clone/push performance, I'd like to limit having to go over ssh.
I'd like to have a copy of git repo X live on site A and site B... and have some syncing mechanism between them. OR to have X live on both sites, but only allow pushing to A (and have that setup correctly at clone time on B)
I'm worried about the case where someone on site A pushes changes to the repo at site A at the same time that someone on site B pushes a truely conflicting change to the repo at site B.
Is there some 'sync'ing solution built into git for distributed open repos like this?
Or a way to have a clone from X set the origin/parent to the X from the other site?
thanks,
-John
I currently use Perforce for source control, but want to start working on the code from 2 different PCs at the same time (desktop and laptop). The laptop would not be able to access the perforce server very often, which makes Perforce a poor choice in this setup.
Distributed source control tools like Mercurial seem better suited to the task, but I am still not clear if this would work or not. Does anyone have any experience of using Mercurial to work on 2 machines at once (eg desktop in the week, laptop in evening and weekends). Does it help, or is it still a pain the butt keeping everything in sync and knowing what is going on.
Hi there,
I'm new to developing in C++. I've developed a dll where I'm using curllib to make HTTP requests.
When running the dll via depend.exe it notifies me that my dll now depends on the curllib.dll. This simply doesn't work for me. My dll is set as a static library not shared and will be distributed on its own. I cannot rely on a user having libcurl.dll installed.
I thought by including libcurl into my project this is all that would be needed and my dll could be independent.
If this is impossible to resolve is there an alternative method I can use to create HTTP requests? Obviously I would prefer to use libcurl.
Thanks in advance.
Hi, I have a grid in my application. After user selects some files in ofdialog application processes some calculations. While app is making calculations it looks like it is not responding. How to display some picture and make main window in black&white while calculating? Maybe make some dp in MainWindow a la "IsBusy" and bind a popup with picture to it?
How you implement this logic in yours apps?
I have a ViewFlipper which contains a few linear layouts.
I need to allow the user to flip through them.
I've seen other apps which have arrow/triangle indicators on either side of the screen, which, when pressed, flips to the next view in the set.
I'd like to add these to my Activity.
Instead of [email protected] or [email protected] I would like to use
[email protected].
can this be one when using app-engine xmpp service,
when own-domain is using google apps for mail service
This would be a great option if available.
We feel many getting worried to add when they find @appspot.com at end,
also when they see an app id which may not much same as our domain name.
How do you compile a resource into the binary in XCode? That way is doesn't show up inside the application bundle as a file and it's not subject to manipulation by a user (whether good-intentioned or bad).
Is this even possible?
I'm particularly interested about this in terms of iPhone apps.
Any help is appreciated!
