  • How best to store Subversion version information in EAR's?

    When receiving a bug report or an it-doesnt-work message one of my initials questions is always what version? With a different builds being at many stages of testing, planning and deploying this is often a non-trivial question. I the case of releasing Java JAR (ear, jar, rar, war) files I would like to be able to look in/at the JAR and switch to the same branch, version or tag that was the source of the released JAR. How can I best adjust the ant build process so that the version information in the svn checkout remains in the created build? I was thinking along the lines of: adding a VERSION file, but with what content? storing information in the META-INF file, but under what property with which content? copying sources into the result archive added svn:properties to all sources with keywords in places the compiler leaves them be I ended up using the svnversion approach (the accepted anwser), because it scans the entire subtree as opposed to svn info which just looks at the current file / directory.   • Lightweight Flash Video Recording Server

    I am currently using Wowza Media server for recording videos from webcam using Flash. However servers like Wowza, Red5 & Flash Media Server seem to be overkill for merely this task. Are there any alternative lightweight video recording servers which can be used for the purpose? My load would not be more than 5 users at a time and my server is Ubuntu 8.04. I tried Haxe Server but project seems to be outdated and won't compile on my Ubuntu.

  • Opening a huge .csv file with Excel Interop using C#

    Hi, I have an application that write huge .csv files about the size ranging from 1 GB to 2 GB. I need to color code the file and save it as .xlsx. So I have tried using Excel Interop and it works great for small files, but when I try to open a 1.3 GB .csv file with Excel, I get an Hresult error. Any ideas as to how I could accomplish this task either with using Excel, or if there is any other way of doing it. Thanks!

  • Determining the magnitude of a certain frequency on the iPhone

    I'm wondering what's the easiest/best way to determine the magnitude of a given frequency in a sound. It's my understanding that a FFT function will return the magnitudes of all frequencies in a signal. I'm wondering if there is any shortcut I could use if I'm only concerned about a specific frequency. I'll be using the iPhone mic to record the audio. My guess is that I'll be using the Audio Queue Services for recording since I don't need to record the audio to a file. I'm using SDK 4.0, so I can use any of the functions defined in the Accelerate framework (e.g. FFT functions) if needed. Update: I updated the question to be more clear as per Conrad's suggestion.

  • Branchless memory manager?

    Anyone thought about how to write a memory manager (in C++) that is completely branch free? I've written a pool, a stack, a queue, and a linked list (allocating from the pool), but I am wondering how plausible it is to write a branch free general memory manager. This is all to help make a really reusable framework for doing solid concurrent, in-order CPU, and cache friendly development. Edit: by branchless I mean without doing direct or indirect function calls, and without using ifs. I've been thinking that I can probably implement something that first changes the requested size to zero for false calls, but haven't really got much more than that. I feel that it's not impossible, but the other aspect of this exercise is then profiling it on said "unfriendly" processors to see if it's worth trying as hard as this to avoid branching.

  • Twisted: why is it that passing a deferred callback to a deferred thread makes the thread blocking a

    I unsuccessfully tried using txredis (the non blocking twisted api for redis) for a persisting message queue I'm trying to set up with a scrapy project I am working on. I found that although the client was not blocking, it became much slower than it could have been because what should have been one event in the reactor loop was split up into thousands of steps. So instead, I tried making use of redis-py (the regular blocking twisted api) and wrapping the call in a deferred thread. It works great, however I want to perform an inner deferred when I make a call to redis as I would like to set up connection pooling in attempts to speed things up further.   • Which thread invokes SensorEventListener.onSensorChanged

    From my records it seems that SensorEventListener.onSensorChanged callback is called by the same thread that registered the callback. I.e there must be some message-queue synchronization going on in the background which allows the activitys UI-Thread to handle the callbacks. That leads to my question: Is there a need to synchronize SensorEventListener.onSensorChanged with the activitys UI-thread, assuming that the activitys UI-thread registered the SensorEventListener? I cannot find any documentation references, but can see various examples calling invalidate() unsychronized or synchronize the entire callback. I used something along the lines of Log.i(TAG, "" + Thread.currentThread().getId()); to retrieve threading information. I'm running android 2.1 update1. Best regards, Christoph

  • Have Rails 2.3.x ignore the i18n gem

    I have a Rails 2.3.5 project that uses the localization features of Rails. I also happen to have Rails 3 beta installed (which depends on the i18n gem). Rails 2.3.5 will happily handle localization on it's own (without i18n installed), however if the i18n gem is available, it makes use of it. Recently I upgraded my gems and now have version 0.3.7 and 0.4.0 of i18n installed. Rails, of course, wants to load and use the latest version which is causing errors in my project. I tried setting the gem version to 0.3.7 which gets around the errors in the web app. However, we're using resque and resque_mailer to delay the sending of messages. When the worker picks up the mailer job from the queue, it ignores my config.gem requirement in environment.rb and uses version 0.4.0 anyway. Ideally, I'd like to tell Rails to just not use the i18n gem at all. How do I do that?

In the past I've used NSIS, but it was always flaky when installing the .NET Framework, so .NET, SQL Server and our app seems like an impossible task. It needs to be free, which probably cuts back my options a tad. Any suggestions or recommendations?

    We are running portlets in WebSphere 6.01, using Java 1.4. We want to send JMS messages to a JBoss 5 queue, running Java 5 (or maybe 6, but it's certainly newer than 1.4). Trying to connect using JNDI is not working, since we have to include the JBoss client jars in the classpath of the portlet, and they are Java 1.5. So I get an unsupported major/minor error when I try to create the InitialContext. Can we connect straight to JBoss without using JNDI? Or is there some way to get around this issue I can't think of?

    Hi, I have a scenario in which I need to process(in SQL Server) messages being delivered as .xml files in a folder in real time. I started investigating SQL Service Broker for my queuing needs. Basically, I want the Service Broker to pick up my .xml files and place them in a queue as they arrive in the folder. But, SQL Service Broker does not support "Monolog" conversations, at least not in the current version. It supports only a dialog between an initiator and a target service. I can use MSMQ but then I will have two things to maintain - the .Net Code for file processing in MSMQ and the SQL Server T-SQL stored procs. What options do I have left? Thanks.

    I didn't find an explicit answer to this question in the WiX Documentation (or Google, for that matter). Of course I could just write the appropriate registry keys in HKCR, but it makes me feel dirty and I'd expect this to be a standard task which should have a nice default solution. For bonus points, I'd like to know how to make it "safe", i.e. don't overwrite existing registrations for the file type and remove the registration on uninstall only if it has been registered during installation and is unchanged.

  • App dies on startup but not crash report

    I've given an ad hoc version of my app to some users. Two of them have the app die on start up while one user has no issues. I can also install the ad hoc without issue...but that is always the case for me. One user sent the info below from the Xcode Organizer Console. They didn't find any crash logs. I don't know what to make of the info below. The one thing that stands out is "Permission denied". I place the provisioning and myapp.app files in a dropbox folder. The user then retrieves the files from the same location. I've run codesign against the .app file in the dropbox and get valid output: codesign -vvvv myapp.app myapp.app: valid on disk myapp.app: satisfies its Designated Requirement Any one have some ideas how I can figure out why the app doesn't work for this user?     Sometimes, when running a Mono .NET application (it seems to not depend on the input data, as it does not change), I run into following situation: when trying to Dequeue an element from a (non-empty, I check its Count beforehand) Queue, an exception is thrown: Unhandled Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object at System.Collections.Generic.Queue1[DBWorkItem].Peek ()[0x00000] at System.Collections.Generic.Queue1[DBWorkItem].Dequeue () [0x00000] at DBProcessor.process (System.Object q) [0x0006b] in <... Though I can certainly catch this exception, the element is dequeued and lost. Has anyone else encountered this behavior, too?
