  • Cut off text before read more

    I have texts that most of the time fit in a div, but sometimes it doesn't fit. There is no way to determine how many characters/words/paragraphs fit in the div, so I can't cut it off that way. The div had a fixed height and width, so can we do something with that? Or do you have any suggestion how to get everything in the div, the correct way?

  • Single Page Navigation w/ Javascript and Back Button

    Ok, so I have a "navigation" div and "content" div. When something on the navigation is clicked, I fade in the content div with the new data. Now, I would like to have the old data returned when the user hits the "back" button on his/her browser, but I'm having a hard time doing this. I know I can set the content to be a named anchor, so they stay on the same page with a breadcrumb trail. However, that's as far as I get. Can I listen for a back button click? Can I set content to display when a certain anchor name is reached? Thanks in advance for your help, SO.

  • Easiest way to create twitter-like status update widget

    I want a widget that allows users to add a request if that request hasnt already been added, or vote for a request if it has already been added. when a user adds a request, i want it to immediately appear as the first element of the list, like what would happen to your timeline if you made new tweet. ive tried to look for a jquery plugin that offers this functionality, but i was unsuccessful (maybe i couldnt think of the right terms to search for??). i dont have enough faith in my js skills to write this from scratch, so id rather find a template to start with.     Hey guys, I've created a dummy layout for my latest design, but when I resize the window in ie7 to check that the min-width works, it kicks the content area to below the sidebar, whereas in all other browsers (including ie6) it behaves exactly as it should do.     Hi, I am currently making our website to be supported by all major browsers and I've met a very strange problem - oveflow-y attribute caused my data to be hidden. Below I've got an oversimplified code sample that works in IE and Firfox, but which doesn't work in Safari and Chrome.     Hey, in my quest to create as image light a site as possible, I'm looking to create two tone hr's. I've achieved this in modern browsers, but want to achieve the same effect in ie6 and 7. The current code I am using is hr { border-bottom:1px solid #FFFFFF; border-top:1px solid #dcdcdc; clear:both; height:0; border-left:0px; border-right:0px; } I've tried, with no success to make this work in ie6 and 7 without having to target the browsers specifically.     Hi All, I have a login button at the footer of my main page or landing page.Currently when user click on the button a login form will get open from TOP to BOTTOM i.e. from the start of form to the "LOGIN" button.What i want is that when i click on the login button it should open the form using slide effect but from the BUTTON to the TOP.I don't want to include library like jQuery as there are some conflict issue with it.     I am using the negative-text-indent technique I learned to show a text-image to the user, while hiding the corresponding actual text. This way the user sees the fancy styled text while search engines can still index it. However I am started to think this sounds like cloaking since I am serving different content to the user vs the spider. However, I am not using this in a deceitful way. Plus it seems like this is a popular technique. So is it SEO-safe or is it cloaking? Thanks!

    With Safari you can disable most iframe scrolling by setting style="overflow: hidden;" on the iframe. However, if you click in the iframe and move the mouse the content scrolls anyhow. Example: <html> <body> <iframe style="width: 100%; height:100px; overflow: hidden;" scrolling="no" src="scrollcontent.html"> </iframe> </body> </html> scrollcontent.html: <html scroll="no" style="overflow:hidden;"> <body scroll="no" style="overflow:hidden;"> <div style="background-color: green; height:100px;">A</div> <div style="background-color: red; height:100px;">B</div> </body> </html> In this example, the iframe should only show a green area and it should be impossible to reveal the red area. This is mostly true: there is no scrollbar, the mouse wheel doesn't do anything and neither do the arrow keys. However click and drag still scrolls the view. This is particularly noticeable when selecting text. Does anyone know any trick to stop Safari from doing this?
