• Issue on passing a checkbox set to an AppEngine script through jQuery Ajax/Json

  I have a set of checkboxes with multiple choice allowed. I parse the set this way: if ($("input[name='route_day']:checked").length > 0) { $("input[name='route_day']:checked").each(function(){ if(this.value != null) route_days_hook.push(this.value); }); dataTrap.route_days = $.JSON.encode(route_days_hook); } ...and pull the whole dataTrap to an AppEngine Python script via jQuery ajax. However, the Python script just bugs. If i change dataTrap.route_days value to a string instead of the JSON encoded object, everything works fine. My question is: how can i pass a checkbox set to the script using Ajax and still be able to iterate over it on the script?

  I realise there are EL and near EL frameworks like StringTemplate, JUEL, Velocity, etc. However, I am not asking for list of alternatives to JSTL/EL. I came across a package more than a year ago, someone who wrote a util that emulates the functionality of JSP for non-servlet env, i.e., JSP composition which does not need a "servlet container" to function. I ignored it and now I think it would be helpful to me and I need help to recall what it is. My actual motivation is similar to what StringTemplate, JUEL, Velocity would offer to help me compose SQL blocks, HTML blocks but I am thinking that JSPs are precompiled into bytecode and JSPs are more run-time efficient since run-time parsing is done no more than once. So actually, recommendation for alternatives would be acceptable as long as the templates are precompiled into bytecode. But I still prefer the JSP emulator.

• Unique task queue task names only for active duration

  I want to guarantee that a task is not in a task queue more then once, so I generate a unique name based on it's payload. But, that task name is reserved for up to 7 days, which is not what I want; I only want it reserved for the duration the task is queued; it could be immediately re-queued. Once a Task with name N is written, any subsequent attempts to insert a Task named N will fail. Eventually (at least seven days after the task successfully executes), the task will be deleted and the name N can be reused. Is there a way to check if the named task is already in the queue then add it if it's not? Or a totally different approach?

• Use interface between model and view in ASP.NET MVC

  Hi, I am using asp.net MVC 2 to develop a site. IUser is used to be the interface between model and view for better separation of concern. However, things turn to a little messy here. In the controller that handles user sign on: I have the following: IUserBll userBll = new UserBll(); IUser newUser = new User(); newUser.Username = answers[0].ToString(); newUser.Email = answers[1].ToString(); userBll.AddUser(newUser); The User class is defined in web project as a concrete class implementing IUser. There is a similar class in DAL implementing the same interface and used to persist data. However, when the userBll.AddUser is called, the newUser of type User can't be casted to the DAL User class even though both Users class implementing the interface (InvalidCastException). Using conversion operators maybe an option, but it will make the dependency between DAL and web which is against the initial goal of using interface. Any suggestions?

  Hello Guys, I am completely fresh to both JDO and GAE, and have been struggling to get my data layer to persist any code at all! The issues I am facing may be very simple, but I just cant seem to find any a way no matter what solution I try. Firstly the problem: (Slightly simplified, but still contains all the info necessary) My data model is as such: User: (primary key) String emailID String firstName Car: (primary key) User user (primary key) String registration String model This was the initial datamodel. I implemented a CarPK object to get a composite primary key of the User and the registration. However that ran into a variety of issues. (Which i will save for another time/question) I then changed the design as such: User: (Unchanged) Car: (primary key) String fauxPK (here fauxPK = user.getEmailID() + SEP + registration) User user String registration String model This works fine for the user, and it can insert and retrieve user objects. However when i try to insert a Car Object, i get the following error: "Cannot have a java.lang.String primary key and be a child object" Found the following helpful link about it: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2063467/persist-list-of-objects Went to the link suggested there, that explains how to create Keys, however they keep talking about "Entity Groups" and "Entity Group Parents". But I cant seem to find any articles or sites that explain what are "Entity Group"s or an "Entity Group Parents" I could try fiddling around some more to figure out if i can store an object somehow, But I am running sort on patience and also would rather understand and implement than vice versa. So i would appreciate any docs (even if its huge) that covers all these points, and preferably has some examples that go beyond the very basic data modeling. • Timeout with GAE Java

  Hi, I am having some issues with an app I have deployed on GAE. Specifically, I am intermittently running into the DeadlineExceededException where the server is not responding within the 30 seconds required. What is odd is that the code is not overly complex, it should run in milliseconds. My guess is that the delay is in dealing with the persistence manager and accessing the datastore. 2 questions: 1) What is the best way to track where all of the CPU time on the server is being used up? Log files do not seem helpful and to make things more complicated the code runs very fast when I am running it locally 2) Any tips / best practices in dealing with the 30 second exception? What are the biggest drivers of this? Datastore? HTTP requests / responses? Thanks

What programming language (c, c++, java, etc...) & database (oracle, MySQL, etc...) they have used in achieving this. Since they have to manipulate with volume of data quickly and effectively. • OnTouch event consumes click event and prevents execution in parent

  I'm having a FrameLayout that has an extended ImageView (github) as a child. When I set an onClick()-Event to the FrameLayout it won't be triggered. The reason appears to be the onTouch() method's return value. If I set the ACTION_DOWN's return value to false the event is passed along properly - but then the Multitouch functionalities break. Also running performClick() in the ACTION_UP event comes to nothing. How to handle those events correctly?

  I've been using the common Android Button with both icon (drawableTop) and text. But when I set an OnClickListener on my button in its parent layout it never gets called. I can only receive clicks if a set the listener to the ImageView and/or TextView. This leads to two possible effects when the button is clicked: The click is inside the ImageView or the TextView. The click is registered ok, but the buttons state drawable doesn't change i.e. it doesn't appear depressed. The click is inside the "empty area" of the button. The click is not registered, but the state drawable works ok. Neither of these is feasible. I've played around with the following attributes on the LinearLayout or its children, but none really seem to have any effect whether true or false: duplicateParentState clickable focusable There doesn't seem to be any reasonable way to get the LinearLayout parent receive clicks instead of its children. I've seen some possible solutions overriding dispatchTouchEvent or onInterceptTouchEvent on the custom component itself, but that really seems like a big mess if I have to start analyzing touch events to identify proper clicks. So OnClickListener on a LinearLayout with children = no go?

• looking to streamline my RSS feed mashup

  Hello crafty developers, I have aggregated RSS feeds from various sources with RSSowl, fetching directly from the social mention API. The RSS feeds are categorized into the following major categories: blogs, news, twitter, Q&A and social networking sites. Each major category is nested with a common group of RSS feeds that represent a particular client/brand ontology. Merging these feeds into the RSSowl reader application, allows me to conduct and save refined search queries (from the aggregated data) into a single file - that I can then tag and further segment for analysis. This scheme is utilized for my own research needs and has helped me considerably. However, I find this RSS mashup scheme kinda clumsy, it requires quite a bit of time to initially organize all of the feeds and I would like to be able to do further natural language processing to the data as well as eventually be able to rank the collected list of URL's into some order of media prominence - right I don't want to pay the ridiculous radian6 web analytics fees, when my intuition is telling me that with a bit of 'elbow grease' I can maybe leverage some available resources online to develop a functional low scale web mining application and get some good intelligence from it. I am now starting to learn a little about computer science - my background is in physical science/statistics so is my thinking in the right track? So, I guess I am imagining an application that allows me to query in a refined manner. A manner that allows me to search for keyword combinations, applying AND/OR operators, selectively focus my queries into particular sources - like a collection of blogs or twitter, or social networking communities, then save the results of my queries into a structured format that can then be manipulated and explored. Am I dreaming? I just had to get all of this out. any bit of advice and insight would be hugely appreciated. my best, Mark

  I have a module called nbemail.py and in this module I want to use the function package_post defined in the module main.py. I am using this statement: from api.main import package_post But I am getting this error: ImportError: cannot import name package_post I really don't know why I am getting this error! I do have _init_.py files in the api directory (which contains the files nbemail.py and main.py) and I do have the function package_post defined in main.py. Any idea to help fixing this problem?

  I developed the site, and I removed the url from google webmaster tool which was like "http://example.com\". I did this because google show this in search with underconstruction Title, which was my previous page. When i completed the website, i removed the url from there, and added sitemap etc to have new copy of site. Now i see in webmaster tools, that all pages are indexed, but still no success. Yahoo and Bing are showing my page when searched. Help me to fix this problem. Regards, vicky

• Django: How can I identify the calling view from a template?

  Short version: Is there a simple, built-in way to identify the calling view in a Django template, without passing extra context variables? Long (original) version: One of my Django apps has several different views, each with its own named URL pattern, that all render the same template. There's a very small amount of template code that needs to change depending on the called view, too small to be worth the overhead of setting up separate templates for each view, so ideally I need to find a way to identify the calling view in the template. I've tried setting up the views to pass in extra context variables (e.g. "view_name") to identify the calling view, and I've also tried using {% ifequal request.path "/some/path/" %} comparisons, but neither of these solutions seems particularly elegant. Is there a better way to identify the calling view from the template? Is there a way to access to the view's name, or the name of the URL pattern? Update 1: Regarding the comment that this is simply a case of me misunderstanding MVC, I understand MVC, but Django's not really an MVC framework. I believe the way my app is set up is consistent with Django's take on MVC: the views describe which data is presented, and the templates describe how the data is presented. It just happens that I have a number of views that prepare different data, but that all use the same template because the data is presented the same way for all the views. I'm just looking for a simple way to identify the calling view from the template, if this exists. Update 2: Thanks for all the answers. I think the question is being overthought -- as mentioned in my original question, I've already considered and tried all of the suggested solutions -- so I've distilled it down to a "short version" now at the top of the question.   Hi, I'm trying to understand how can I do to let my site be reachable from google image search spiders. I like how last.fm solution, and I thought to use a technique like his staff do to let google find artists images on their pages. When I'm looking for an artist and I search it on google image search, as often as not I find an image from last.fm artists page, I make an example: If I search the band Pure Reason Revolution It brings me here, the artist's image page http://www.last.fm/music/Pure+Reason+Revolution/+images/4284073 Now if I take a look to the image file, i can see it's named: http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/4284073/Pure+Reason+Revolution+4.jpg so if I try to undertand how the service works I can try to say: http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/ the server who serve the images 500/ the selected size for the image 4284073/ the image id for database Pure+Reason+Revolution+4.jpg the image name I thought it's difficult to think the real filename for the image is Pure+Reason+Revolution+4.jpg for image overwrite problems when an user upload it, in fact if I digit: http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/4284073.jpg I probably find the real image location and filename With this tecnique the image is highly reachable from search engines and easily archived. My question is, does exist some guide or tutorial to approach on this kind of tecniques, or something similar?
