• Image coding library

  Is there any good library for lossless image encoding/decoding that has compression rate more or less similar to PNG but decoding to raw RGB bitmap data would be much faster than PNG? Also alpha transparency is needed, but not essential because, alpha channel could be taken from separate image. Original problem lies in slowness of reading and decoding PNG files on iPhone using standard libraries. Obvious and the simples solution would have been storing raw RGB bitmap data, but then size of unpacked ipa is too large - 4 times larger than PNG files. So, I am trying to find some compromise solution.

• How do I remove (or apply) transparency on a gdk-pixbuf?

  I have a c++ program in which a gdk-pixbuf is created. I want to output it as an image, so I call gdk_pixbuf_save_to_stream(pixbuf,stream,type,NULL,&err,NULL). This works fine when "type" is png or tiff, but with jpeg or bmp it just produces a black square. The original pixbuf consists of black-on-transparent (and gdk_pixbuf_get_has_alpha returns true) so I'm guessing that the problem is with the alpha mask. GdkPixbuf has a function to add an alpha channel, but I can't see one that removes it again, or (which might be as good) to invert it. Is there a simple way to get the jpeg and bmp formats to work properly? (I should say that I'm very new to proper programming like this.)

• Silverlight Line Graph with Gradient

  I have a series of points which I will turn into a line on a graph. What I want is to give the area under the graph a gradient fill. It would look somewhat similar to a Bloomberg graph like this; My question really has three parts; First, how should I fill only the area under the graph? Second, how do I fill that with a gradient? Finally, if I have multiple lines on the same graph any area under more than one line should have a greyscale gradient fill, how would you set this up? My biggest problem is deciding on the data structures to use, I could use many multiple sided shapes (One for each line/ data series) and then tell the brush to draw; Transparent if it's not in any shape The colour of one series if it's in one shape (Alpha relative to height to give grad) Black if it's in multiple shapes (Alpha relative to height to give grad) Then I'd draw the shapes' boundaries in white afterwards. • Filtering and copying with PowerShell

  In my quest to improve my PowerShell skills, here's an example of an ugly solution to a simple problem. Any suggestions how to improve the oneliner are welcome. Mission: trim a huge icon library down to something a bit more manageable. The original directory structure looks like this: /Apps and Utilities /Compile /32 Bit Alpha png /Compile 16 n p.png /+ 10 or more files /+ 5 more formats with 10 or more files each /+ 20 or so icon names /+ 22 more categories I want to copy the 32 Bit Alpha pngs and flatten the directory structure a bit. Here's my quick and very dirty solution: $dest = mkdir c:\icons; gci -r | ? { $_.Name -eq '32 Bit Alph a png' } | % { mkdir ("$dest\" + $_.Parent.Parent.Name + "\" + $_.Parent.Name); $_ } | gci | % { cp $_. • CSS: semi-transparent background, but not text

  Is there a way in CSS to make the background of an element semi-transparent, but still have the text of the element non-transparent? (Without separating the text and background in two elements positioned over eachother.) I've tried <p style="position:absolute;background-color:green;filter:alpha(opacity=60);opacity:.6;"><span style="color:white;filter:alpha(opacity=100);opacity:1;">Hello world</span></p> But it looks like child elements are subjected to the opacity of their parent(s), so 'opacity:1' is still drawn as 'opacity:.6' from the parent.

Then ti starts a background worker in which should clear out the listview and populate the iistview with new information every 30 seconds. • Enumerating all combinations of lists of different types

  Given two IEnumberables of different types, what is the best practice (considering readability and maintainability) for iterating over both lists to perform an action on all possible combinations? My initial solution was to use nested foreach loops, iterating over the first IEnumerable, and then within that loop, iterating over the second IEnumerable and passing the value from the outer and the current loop into the target method. Eg.: enum ParamOne { First, Second, Etc } List<int> paramTwo = new List<int>() { 1, 2, 3 }; void LoopExample() { foreach (ParamOne alpha in Enum.GetValues(typeof(ParamOne))) { foreach (int beta in paramTwo) { DoSomething(alpha, beta); } } } I tried to restructure it with LINQ, but ended up with something that had no obvious advantages and seemed less intuitive. A search here shows lots of questions about nesting foreachs to iterate over child properties, but I couldn't find anything about iterating over two distinct lists.

• Fade animation UITableViewCell

  Hi everyone, I have a UITableViewController that populates a UITableView with some data that I pull off the net. The data for each cell consists also of an image used as background, which I'm downloading in a separated NSOperation added to a NSOperationQueue with a MaxConcurrentOperationCount set to 4. As long as the image is not downloaded I'm showing a generic placeholder which I would like to replace (fading out/fading in) with the downloaded image once it's being successfully downloaded. I'm using the following code placed inside the cellForRowAtIndexPath of the UITableViewController. [UIView beginAnimations:@"fade" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationBeginsFromCurrentState:YES]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:3.0]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseInOut]; cell.placeholderUIImage.alpha = 0.0; cell.backgroundUIImage.alpha = 1.0; [UIView commitAnimations]; This is unfortunately just working randomly for a couple of rows, since for the most the background image is set instantly, as if the animation started on one cell would have been "overwritten" by the next call of beginAnimations.

What is the best way to read this data into a simple list like this: data = [[#meta data 1, skadjflaskdjfasljdfalskdjflsdkfjhasdlkgjhsdlkjghlaskdjasdhfk], [#meta data 2, jflaksdjflaksjdflkjasdlfjasldaksjflkdsajlkdfj], [#meta data 3, alsdkjflasdjkfglalaskdjf]] My initial idea was to use the read() method to read the whole file into memory and then use regular expressions to parse the data into the desired format. Is there a better more pythonic way? All metadata lines start with an octothorpe and all data lines are all alpha-numeric. Thanks!

  Hey everyone, I'm trying to import an external SWF with a scrollbar, calling out to an external .AS, into my main SWF. Someone told me, it's an issue that my scrollbar isn't instantiated yet, but stopped short of helping me how to fix the problem.   I've been looking at the geom_rect example in section 5.10 of the ggplot2 book and don't understand the purpose of the NULL's in the aes function. For example, using the mpg data: g = ggplot(data=mpg, aes(x=displ, y=hwy)) + geom_point() #Produces a plot with a transparent filled region g + geom_rect(aes(NULL, NULL), alpha=0.1,xmin=5, xmax=7, ymin=10, ymax=45, fill="blue") #Solid filled region (v0.9) or nothing in v0.8 g + geom_rect(alpha=0.1,xmin=5, xmax=7, ymin=10, ymax=45, fill="blue") My understanding is that the NULL's are resetting the x & y mapping, but I don't see why this should affect the transparency.

• Flex RGBA colors in CSS

  Hello all, I am trying to style a DataGrid component so that the background is transparent (Flex 4). Rgba colors work fine if I make "alternatingItemColors" an attribute on the component, but if I try to declare it in my css stylesheet, I cannot declare the alpha value. Works (mxml): <mx:DataGrid id="songGrid" width="800" height="529" dataProvider="{songs}" itemClick="handleRowClick(event);" x="145" y="168" headerStyleName="dataGridHeader" alternatingItemColors="[0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF]"> Doesn't Work (css): mx|DataGrid { alternatingItemColors: #FFFFFFFF, #FFFFFFFF; } If I enter the values as "0xFFFFFFFF", I get a parse error, because it's not proper css (of course, most of flex's css isn't proper css, but I digress...). So, is there any way to declare the alpha value of these colors in the css?

I thought I could do it via an UPDATE containing a JOIN, but Access (I know...) is complaining with 'Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression ' and then everything from 'Barmy' here: UPDATE tB SET tB.BValue='Barmy' FROM TableB tB INNER JOIN TableA tA ON tB.AID=tA.AID WHERE tB.Name='Beta' AND tA.Name='Alpha'; What is my heinous crime? Or is it just Access not conforming?
