  • Does this simple cache class need thread synchronization?

    - by DayOne
    Does this simple cache class need thread synchronization ... if I remove the lock _syncLock statement will encounter any problems? I think i can remove the locks as the references should be updated correctly right? ... BUt i'm think whar happens if client code is iterating over the GetMyDataStructure method and it get replaced? Thanks! public sealed class Cache { private readonly object _syncLock = new object(); private IDictionary<int, MyDataStructure> _cache; public Cache() { Refresh(); } public void Refresh() { lock (_syncLock) { _cache = DAL.GetMyDataStructure(); } } public IDictionary<int, MyDataStructure> **GetMyDataStructure**() { lock (_syncLock) { return _cache; } } }

  • (C++) What's the difference between these overloaded operator functions?

    - by cv3000
    What is the difference between these two ways of overloading the != operator below. Which is consider better? Class Test { ...// private: int iTest public: BOOL operator==(const &Test test) const; BOOL operator!=(const &Test test) const; } BOOL operator==(const &Test test) const { return (iTest == test.iTest); } //overload function 1 BOOL Test::operator!=(const &Test test) const { return !operator==(test); } //overload function 2 BOOL Test::operator!=(const &Test test) const { return (iTest != test.iTest); } I've just recently seen function 1's syntax for calling a sibling operator function and wonder if writing it that way provides any benefits.

  • Counting bits set in a .Net BitArray Class

    - by Sam
    I am implementing a library where I am extensively using the .Net BitArray class and need an equivalent to the Java BitSet.Cardinality() method, i.e. a method which returns the number of bits set. I was thinking of implementing it as an extension method for the BitArray class. The trivial implementation is to iterate and count the bits set (like below), but I wanted a faster implementation as I would be performing thousands of set operations and counting the answer. Is there a faster way than the example below? count = 0; for (int i = 0; i < mybitarray.Length; i++) { if (mybitarray [i]) count++; }

  • jQuery not selecting div class

    - by Cortopasta
    Trying to make a simple toggle menu, and I can't seem to hide/show the sub menu using this bit of jQuery: $(".topic news").mouseup(function(){ $(".feed groups").hide("fast", function(){ $(".feed messages").hide("fast"); $("ul.feed news").toggle("fast"); }); }); Here is the corresponding HTML: <div class="topic news"> <span>News Feed</span> </div> <ul class="feed news"> <li>News item #1</li> <li>News item #1</li> <li>News item #1</li> <li>News item #1</li> <li>News item #1</li> </ul> Any ideas?

  • [C#] How to create a constructor of a class that return a collection of instances of that class?

    - by codemonkie
    My program has the following class definition: public sealed class Subscriber { private subscription; public Subscriber(int id) { using (DataContext dc = new DataContext()) { this.subscription = dc._GetSubscription(id).SingleOrDefault(); } } } ,where _GetSubscription() is a sproc which returns a value of type ISingleResult<_GetSubscriptionResult> Say, I have a list of type List<int> full of 1000 ids and I want to create a collection of subscribers of type List<Subscriber>. How can I do that without calling the constructor in a loop for 1000 times? Since I am trying to avoid switching the DataContext on/off so frequently that may stress the database. TIA.

  • Constant template parameter class manages to link externally

    - by the_drow
    I have a class foo with an enum template parameter and for some reason it links to two versions of the ctor in the cpp file. enum Enum { bar, baz }; template <Enum version = bar> class foo { public: foo(); }; // CPP File #include "foo.hpp" foo<bar>::foo() { cout << "bar"; } foo<baz>::foo() { cout << "baz"; } I'm using msvc 2008, is this the standard behavior? Are only type template parameters cannot be linked to cpp files?

  • Stupid java question: Is it a method?

    - by Stefan
    Hello, I'm no Java guy, so I ask myself what this means: public Button(Light light) { this.light = light; } Is Button a method? I ask myself, because it takes an input parameter light. But if it was a method, why would it begin with a capital letter and has no return data type? Here comes the full example: public class Button { private Light light; public Button(Light light) { this.light = light; } public void press() { light.turnOn(); } } I know, this question is really trivial. However, I have nothing to do with Java and haven't found a description for the Button thing above. I'm just interested.

  • jQuery: exclude class on click

    - by Kevin Brown
    //Table select $("#reports-table tr").click( function() { var detail_id = $(this).attr('id'); $(this).addClass("selected"); $(this).siblings().removeClass("selected"); $('#reports-right').show().load('/members/details/'+detail_id); $('#reports-table').width(680); } ); I currently am using this code to add a selected class to a table row and show details of the row clicked in a right 'aside'. The problem is, I have action buttons in the row--when they are clicked, becausee they are children of the tr, this function still runs... How can I exclude a certain class?

  • C++ exam question on string class implementation

    - by Carlucho
    I just took an exam where i was asked the following: Write the function body of each of the methods GenStrLen, InsertChar and StrReverse for the given code bellow. You must take into consideration the following; How strings are constructed in C++ The string must not overflow Insertion of character increases its length by 1 An empty string is indicated by StrLen = 0 class Strings { private: char str[80]; int StrLen; public: // Constructor Strings() { StrLen=0; }; // A function for returning the length of the string 'str' int GetStrLen(void) { }; // A function to inser a character 'ch' at the end of the string 'str' void InsertChar(char ch) { }; // A function to reverse the content of the string 'str' void StrReverse(void) { }; }; The answer I gave was something like this (see bellow). My one of problem is that used many extra variables and that makes me believe am not doing it the best possible way, and the other thing is that is not working.... class Strings { private: char str[80]; int StrLen; int index; // *** Had to add this *** public: Strings(){ StrLen=0; } int GetStrLen(void){ for (int i=0 ; str[i]!='\0' ; i++) index++; return index; // *** Here am getting a weird value, something like 1829584505306 *** } void InsertChar(char ch){ str[index] = ch; // *** Not sure if this is correct cuz I was not given int index *** } void StrRevrse(void){ GetStrLen(); char revStr[index+1]; for (int i=0 ; str[i]!='\0' ; i++){ for (int r=index ; r>0 ; r--) revStr[r] = str[i]; } } }; I would appreciate if anyone could explain me toughly what is the best way to have answered the question and why. Also how come my professor closes each class function like " }; " i thought that was only used for ending classes and constructors only. Thanks a lot for your help.

  • Jquery Conflicts with another Jquery Library

    - by Johangsl
    I am currently trying to implement a jquery slider into a joomla website. I already implemented NoConflict(); so that it doesn't step into joomla. And it works, BUT for another reason wich I do not understand it enters another jquery file called jsloader.js of a plugin I use for picture gallery display. I suppose all the module jquery files get preloaded before the one im calling inside the template. it enters the function() in the jsloader.js instead of the one in my jquery file. How Can I force it to enter my jquery file instead of other

  • Keeping Track of Dependant Third-party Library Releases

    - by Sonny
    I am building a web application that is dependent upon several third-party libraries. What is a good strategy for making sure that you're always using the most fully patched versions? A simple method would be to keep the versions written down and visit the websites at regular intervals, but I am looking for some way to get the information 'pushed' to me if possible. I figured that there might be others out there who have needed to do the same thing and have worked out a good solution. Here are a few libraries I am using: Zend Framework jQuery HTMLPurifier Markdownify InnovaStudio WYSIWYG Editor Fancybox MojoZoom

  • Library for Dataflow in C

    - by msutherl
    How can I do dataflow (pipes and filters, stream processing, flow based) in C? And not with UNIX pipes. I recently came across stream.py. Streams are iterables with a pipelining mechanism to enable data-flow programming and easy parallelization. The idea is to take the output of a function that turns an iterable into another iterable and plug that as the input of another such function. While you can already do this using function composition, this package provides an elegant notation for it by overloading the operator. I would like to duplicate a simple version of this kind of functionality in C. I particularly like the overloading of the operator to avoid function composition mess. Wikipedia points to this hint from a Usenet post in 1990. Why C? Because I would like to be able to do this on microcontrollers and in C extensions for other high level languages (Max, Pd*, Python). * (ironic given that Max and Pd were written, in C, specifically for this purpose – I'm looking for something barebones)

  • Using ExecuteQuery() with entity framework, entity class.

    - by sfreelander
    I am trying to jump from ASP Classic to asp.net. I have followed tutorials to get Entity Framework and LINQ to connect to my test database, but I am having difficulties figuring out ExecuteQuery(). I believe the problem is that I need an "entity class" for my database, but I can't figure out how to do it. Here is my simple code: Dim db as New TestModel.TestEntity Dim results AS IEnumerable(OF ???) = db.ExecuteQuery(Of ???)("Select * from Table1") From the microsoft example site, they use an entity class called Customers, but I don't understand what that means.

  • Accessing variablss through a different class within the constructor of latter classes of an object

    - by Haxed
    In the code below, I've added two lines that print output. The first line prints junk as usual, but surprisingly the second one gives me a compilation error. Why? class Student { private String name; public Student(String name){ this.name = name; } public String getName(){ return name; } } class StudentServer { public StudentServer(){ Student[] s = new Student[30]; s[0] = new Student("Nick"); // LINE 01: This compiles, although prints junk System.out.println(s[0]); // LINE 02: I get a error called cannot find symbol System.out.println(s[0].getName()); } public static void main(){ new StudentServer(); } } Many Thanks

  • how to hack this php class for parse ZIP file in random or specific order

    - by Jesse
    My English is poor so I will make it short. Right now, I have imzip.zip which has three txt files: a.txt b.txt c.txt When I try to load imzip.zip using: http://pastebin.com/m1d974990 It loads the files alphabetically. In this case: a.txt b.txt c.txt However, I would like to be able to have the class load on different variables such as by size, date or simply random. The problem is I have no idea how I would go about modifying the class to fit my needs. I would really appreciate your help! :D

  • Java: global values inside a class?

    - by HH
    I want less methods. I want a common global TestClass from which I could use any of its value inside the class. import java.util.*; import java.io.*; public class TestClass { TestClass(String hello){ String hallo = hello; String halloSecond = "Saluto!"; } public static void main(String[] args) { TestClass test = new TestClass("Tjena!"); System.out.println("I want "Tjena!": " + test.hallo); TestClass testSecond = new TestClass("1"); System.out.println("I want Saluto!:" + test.halloSecond); System.out.println("I want Saluto!:" + testSecond.halloSecond); } }

  • Application.Current changes when using reflection to create an instance of another Application class

    - by markti
    Let's say I have the following Silverlight Applications: App1.xap App2.xap App3.xap Let's say that I start App1.xap as the default xap file. If I load App2.xap and App3.xap and instantiate an Application class within one of the other two XAPs. The Application.Current changes to be that new instance. System.Windows.Application obj = Activator.CreateInstance(type) as System.Windows.Application; I don't want the current application to change. I just want to get the merged Resource Dictionaries off the Application class.
