Currently I'm using System.Kind property to retrieve information regarding the programs from Windows Search but the results set does not look same like Windows 7 search. Order of items are different. • my wiki site using mediawiki - databases not found error

  I had been using mediawiki opensource in my website to display programming articles. Today i tried to access my site but it showed database not found. Mediawiki uses many databases. When i logged in my control panel and checked i can see that most of the databases created by mediawiki is missing so is the reason i am getting this error. I have used mediawiki for two different purposes. It is like two modules. For one the databases are missing and for the other i think the data is corrupt. Do anybody know any issue with mediawiki security or would this be a problem with the webhosting cause we have faced several problems with them initially like before three years and recently the were good. Yet this happened. I have requested to hosting company to look into it and meanwhile i am expecting the help from stackexchange users. How do i check the logs for table deletion?

• Mesh with quads to triangle mesh

  I want to use Blender for making models yet realize some of the polygons are not triangles but contain quads or more (example: cylinder top and bottom). I could export the the mesh as a basic mesh file and import it in to an openGL application and workout rendering the quads as tris, but anything with more than 4 vert indices is beyond me. Is it typical to convert the mesh to a triangle-based mesh inside blender before exporting it? I actually tried this through the quads_convert_to_tris method within a blender py script and the top of the cylinder does not look symmetrical. What is typically done to render a loaded mesh as a tri?

• Non-disruptive desktop-clock?

  Hello, is there a clock application, that can be placed on your screen like a widget staying always on top but automatically fades away on mouseover enabling you to click through it on items below, (behaves pretty much like the Ubuntu notifications). I am aware, that there are screenlets and gdesklets widget apps, but those are buggy, look outdated, and do not comply with the criteria listed above. What I have in mind is a clock that is large, (digital), always visible (on top of all other windows), and does not disrupt your work (e.g. you can still click that scroll bar or button if it is just below the clock, since the clock fades away on hovering).   Warning: Im a simple dev, not an all powerful DBA with godly powers. This morning, one of my sites was down and DNN reported a problem with the database.  A quick series of tests revealed that the culprit was a corrupted log file.   I would say most websites with a somewhat thought-through graphical design use social media icons (i.e twitter, facebook, youtube, et.c) which are altered to fit the theme and design of the site. Now, my boss insist we only use the ones provided by say facebook or twitter themselfes (in fear of getting sued or lose credability), but sometimes it just doesnt look very good on the site. What is the common practice for these things? What do you risk by using an altered logo? What should I tell my boss? I'll provide a few examples, what'd happen if I put any of these on a site?

• Which programming language to develop software for USC that also runs on other OS?? (WINDOWS/OSX)

  I have skills in JAVA and C#: First i had a closer look to JAVA (Eclipse with Windowbuilder-Plugin) - Swing: But there is no natvie GUI-Support for GTK3 (e.g., HUD seems not to work) Then i was at JAVA - SWT: It is to heavy. I want do code a small app that improves the Ubuntu desktop. I don't want to ship a program with eclipse included. After that i found C# Mono (Monodevelop): GTK-shparp is only for GTK2 available. A GTK3-port will come soon but is it possible to convert the program from GTK2 to GTK3 without extra adaptations? The next bad thing is, that MONO is now dropped from Ubuntu LTS 12.04. So i have no chance that my app would be a default-app in an Ubuntu-Image. (This is also a factor for me to choose a programming language). I know there are other techs but i want to use as programing language JAVA or C#.

• How to troubleshoot Ubuntu One in Maverick beta?

  I just updated to the Maverick beta (actually it's a fresh install, and not an upgrade of 10.04). But now "Ubuntu One" doesn't show up in my me-menu thing. In addition, when I go to Ubuntu One from System-Preferences and attempt to log in from there it will sometimes look like it works, but other times it won't do anything. When I go to the command line and type u1sdtool -s it will either say something like "doing auth dance" or "auth failed" and often it has never even prompted me to log in or try to get a new password (even though I know it's correct). Anyway, this is the main hangup I have with the Maverick beta. I can't get to my ubuntu one account from the native client. Is this a widespread issue? Is there something I can do to fix this?

• How should I do 3D games through Java on a mac?

  I have been self-teaching myself Java on the mac mostly because the language is cross-platform. Recently, I have been only able to develop 2D games using the Graphics2D class. Now, I want to learn how to make 3D games in Java. I used to model and animate stuff in 3D, so my knowledge of 3-Dimensional stuff is okay. I have spent the last 3 hours using google to look up ways of making 3D games in java. Apparently the best one to use is OpenGL, so i looked up a tutorial on it and i cannot find a tutorial that shows how to (if there is a way) install JOGL on the Mac platform. Should i continue to use Java? How can i make 3D games using Java? What is the best way to make 3D games on a mac?

• Remote Display Config.sh Using SSH

  How often I see people look to VNC, NXMachine, RDP, etc to get a windowing environment on a remote system.  These products are great and I use them too, but there is a fancy feature in SSH to help. ssh –X remoteserver This is a great feature for hooking into headless VirtualBox machines and remote displaying an install wizard. The remote server must have some lines put in the /etc/ssh/sshd_conf file: X11Forwarding yes X11DisplayOffset 10 The second line is optional, but the first is required.  Restart sshd (sudo /etc/init.d/ssh restart). Now I can ssh –X remote server Then run /opt/app/wls10.3.4/wlserver_10.3/common/bin/config.sh to build a new domain. Note: For some reason, the jdk that comes with WebLogic often fails to work on the remote display.  In that case, I modify the config.sh to just use /usr/bin/java (from openjdk-6-jre package).

  Ok, I know if I am Red hat or other giant and offer some support etc. I can be profitable, in fact, Red Hat is doing quite well. However, what about a small company where I create a small program. e.g. an instant messenger for a windows or linux (just as an illustration) and I want to sell it. But how can I sell it if it is free and everybody can download it? Any advice? I like the idea of FSF by Richard Stallman, however I am missing the way how to sell my software under GNU/GPL licence. Any advice, how can I solve this problem? Any profitable small business software developers around with their opinion? Any links or names of small companies taht I can look at and study their model of business?
