  • is there any programming language that can bring together edit and compile / run ???

    - by Aff
When I code, I always write little pieces of unit, and compile it often. This helps me to make sure that everything run correctly, but it's very time consumed. is there any programming language that can support us to do coding and running at the same time side by side ? i mean as soon as a key press leads to valid code, the effect of the edit is incorporated into the executing program.

  • Is it a good idea for me to learn Python before C or some other Compiler language?

    - by Dream Lane
Right now I am going through MIT's introduction to Computer Science course via OpenCourseWare. As a part of this course I am learning the Python Language. I've read a lot of things about the benefits of learning C. Before I dig any deeper into Python I wonder if I will be hindered or helped by learning Python first. Do you think that I will develop any bad habits or anything like that from Python?

  • Writing a windows web service and not sure what language to use?

    - by badpanda
So I am required to write a fairly basic Windows service and have never done so before. Of C#, C++ (the Visual Studio suite), what is the best language to develop in? I am a student, and am most familiar with OO languages such as Java. Additionally, if anyone can recommend any books, articles, or google searches that would be relevant to the project I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! badPanda

  • How would I authenticate against a local windows user on another machine in an ASP.NET application?

    - by Daniel Chambers
In my ASP.NET application, I need to be able to authenticate/authorise against local Windows users/groups (ie. not Active Directory) on a different machine, as well as be able to change the passwords of said remote local Windows accounts. Yes, I know Active Directory is built for this sort of thing, but unfortunately the higher ups have decreed it needs to be done this way (so authentication against users in a database is out as well). I've tried using DirectoryEntry and WinNT like so: DirectoryEntry user = new DirectoryEntry(String.Format("WinNT://{0}/{1},User", serverName, username), username, password, AuthenticationTypes.Secure) but this results in an exception when you try to log in more than one user: Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again. I've tried making sure my DirectoryEntries are used inside a using block, so they're disposed properly, but this doesn't seem to fix the issue. Plus, even if that did work it is possible that two users could hit that line of code concurrently and therefore try to create multiple connections, so it would be fragile anyway. Is there a better way to authenticate against local Windows accounts on a remote machine, authorise against their groups, and change their passwords? Thanks for your help in advance.

    - by Param-Ganak
Hello friends, I have a JSP page on which I have a div tag in which there is a a IMG tag. Using this IMG tag I want to show an image in it. Here the source path of an image is comes from database so I assigned a JSP variable using JSP scriplet. This JSP variable have the source path of an image. This path of image may be of different machine or of same machine i.e. images are stored on different machine or on same machine i.e. on local machine on different drive. The problem is that how to give path of image stored on different machine as well as on same machine. I have tried different ways like by giving ip address of that machine. Here is the path that of local machine where the image is stored img src= file:\localhost\D:\ScannedSheets\testproj/batch1/IMG001.jpg style="z-index:1; position:absolute; top:0; left:0; width:850; height:1099" With this syntax the image is visible in Internet Explorer but With the same syntax Its not visible in FireFox, Google Chrome etc. Please Guide me in friends. Also tell me that how to give path of the image stored on different machine which works In Internet Explorer, FireFox, Google chrome etc.

  • Yet another list comprehension question

    - by relima
    I had this: if Setting["Language"] == "en": f.m_radioBox3.SetSelection(0) elif Setting["Language"] == "pt": f.m_radioBox3.SetSelection(1) elif Setting["Language"] == "fr": f.m_radioBox3.SetSelection(2) elif Setting["Language"] == "es": f.m_radioBox3.SetSelection(3) Then I did this: Linguas = ["en","pt","fr","es"] a = 0 for i in Linguas: if i == Setting["Language"]: f.m_radioBox3.SetSelection(a) a += 1 Is it possible to further simplify this and make it into a one-liner?

  • Does a syntax for this exist? In any language?

    - by Michael
It seems pretty common to me to have an argument, in a dynamically typed language that is either an Object or a key to lookup that object. For instance when I'm working with a database I might have a method getMyRelatedStuff(person) All I really need to lookup the related stuff is the id of the person so my method could look like this in python: def getMyRelatedStuff(person_or_id): id = person_or_id.id if isinstance(person,User) else person_or_id #do some lookup Or going the other direction: def someFileStuff(file_or_name): file = file_or_name if hasattr(file,'write') else open(file_or_name)

  • New 64 bit linux system has regular processes (ps, grep etc) taking up way too much VIRT mem

    - by user42980
We just moved from a 32-bit machine to a 64-bit machine. We have quickly ran out of memory despite the new boxes have twice as much ram as the old boxes. Running a simple ps command will illustrate the problem. New machine: 132 prod-Charlotte1-node1 ~/public_html/rearch/cgi-bin ps aux | grep ps root 293 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? S< May09 0:00 [kpsmoused] xamine 2267 1.0 0.0 63728 928 pts/3 R+ 16:50 0:00 ps aux xamine 2268 0.0 0.0 61172 752 pts/3 S+ 16:50 0:00 grep ps Old machine: 132 prod-116431-node1:/home/xamine ps aux | grep ps xamine 23191 0.0 0.0 2332 768 pts/6 R+ 15:41 0:00 ps aux xamine 23192 0.0 0.0 3668 692 pts/6 S+ 15:41 0:00 grep ps Notice that the ps process is using 63M of VIRT mem vs 2 on the old machine. New Machine: Enterprise Linux Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Carthage) Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Tikanga) Old Machine: Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 4) Thanks for any thoughts you have!
