  • windows 2008 server move users to new server

    I have a new server that is replacing a current windows 2008 server r2. I want to move all the local users and IIS sites to the new box. Is there away to export the two and import them on the new box? I have sync'd all the files for all the sites to the new box. This box doesn't belong to a domain so its not a matter of joining to the domain. The users I'm talking about are the local computer users.

    What is the best way to backup windows SQL, Exchange or AD servers data to? NAS, external USB , iSCSI or perhaps some other backup solution? I will not however be considering cloud backup solutions due to bandwidth restrictions and cost. Currently I find NAS devices to give the best results but clients that do not have the budget for backup software use Windows Server Backup but then they can make only 1 backup to a NAS at a time.

What I mean by image is a snapshot of all of my programs, settings,files, everything, i think this is referred to as a ghost image. I want to be able to restore so I do not have to reinstall everything again. Does the backup/restore utility in Windows Server 2008 R2 do this?

  • High CPU usage - symptoms moving from server to server after bouncing

    First off, I apologize if I didn't include enough information to properly troubleshoot this issue. This sort of thing isn't my specialty, so it is a learning process. If there's something I need to provide, please let me know and I'll be happy to do what I can. The images associated with my question are at the bottom of this post. We are dealing with a clustered environment of four WebLogic 9.2 Java application servers. The cluster utilizes a round-robin load algorithm. Other details include: Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_12-b04) BEA JRockit(R) (build R27.4.0-90_CR352234-91983-1.5.0_12-20071115-1605-linux-x86_64, compiled mode) Basically, I started looking at the servers' performance because our customers are seeing lots of lag at various times of the day. Our servers should easily handle the loads they are given, so it's not clear what's going on. Using HP Performance Manager, I generated some graphs that indicate that the CPU usage is completely out of whack. It seems that, at any given point, one or more of the servers has a CPU utilization of over 50%. I know this isn't particularly high, but I would say it is a red flag based on the CPU utilization of the other servers in the WebLogic cluster. Interesting things to note: The high CPU utilization was occurring only on server02 for several weeks. The server crashed (extremely rare; we are not sure if it's related to this) and upon starting it back up, the CPU utilization was normal on all 4 servers. We restarted all 4 managed servers and the application server (on server01) yesterday, on 2/28. As you can see, server03 and server04 picked up the behavior that was seen on server02 before. The CPU utilization is a Java process owned by the application user (appown). The number of transactions is consistent across all servers. It doesn't seem like any one server is actually handling more than another. If anyone has any ideas or can at least point me in the right direction, that would be great.   • suppress warnings from windows live mail untrusted cerficate ssl

    Hi we have setup our own mailserver using ssl. Each time I start up windows live mail, in comes up with an annoying message that "The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified" Is there some way to add this cerficate such that we wont see this message on every program start. When using firefox (our mailserver can also be webbased) or thunderbird, I get the option to allow the certificate without asking again. I'm perfectly aware that we can buy a certificate that will make the message go away, but this we dont want to do. Thanks edit: I have succesfully imported the certificate such that I can access the website without complains using ie, however the problem still persists in windows live mail.

In the host summary it shows: Processors: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz 1 CPU x 2 Cores On another machine, it shows: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66GHz 1 CPU x 4 Cores This machine also has two CPUs. Howcome VMWare is not seeing all the CPUs?

  • Total RAM % from perfmon Windows Server 2008 R2

    I am trying to find a good way to get available RAM percentage from perfmon. I can get Available Mbytes but I can't find any way to get the total installed memory on the server or what is in use via perfmon. I can obviously alert on GB but each of my servers have different total RAM so not a great alert. The way I understand % Committed Bytes is this includes page files on disk so this is not a good indicator. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi there We have a 1TB storage server I've just gone to transfer a 100Gb file across to it. And it has deleted the shadow copy. From Googling I understand that this probably occurred: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826936 Is there any way of recovering those shadow copies back?     I have noticed that it's possible to telnet into a mailserver that I own and send spoofed messages to other clients. This only works for the domain that the mail server is regarding; I cannot do it for other domains. For example; lets say that I own example.com. If I telnet example.com 25 I can successfully send a message to another user without authentication: HELO local MAIL FROM: [email protected] RCPT TO: [email protected] DATA SUBJECT: Whatever this is spam Spam spam spam . I consider this a big problem; how do I secure this?

    Hi experts, I'm having an issue with my Windows Server 2008. I can successfuly connect to it with FTP(port 21), remote desktop(whatever the port number is), https but not with simple http or port 80, from the outside of my LAN. Is there some settings I don't know about regarding this special port on the firewall or on IIS7? For your information, I can connect to port 80 as long as I'm on the same LAN, but as soon as the request come from the outside, I get nothing... Please help Thank you

They each will install one application and they each require two or three databases. Should they all use the same instance or should every provider use it's own named instance?     I have a scenario based question...Something , I haven't faced till now ,but i would be interested to know the answer. If i have assigned a luns (say, of 50 GB) and put them in storage group.However, the windows server team did not grab that lun but sent an acknowledgment saying the Luns are alingned. I would like to know what will happen to the Luns that belong to the SG ..in my opinion they will remain in the SG as unassigned Luns ..or is there a possibility that the lUns will move back to the storage.

  • How to use postfix header_checks with zarafa outgoing mail

    I'm using zarafa as MDA with postfix. For privacy reasons I want to filter client internal IP-addresses and stuff like this. To do so I've added the following to master.cf: submission inet n - - - - smtpd [...] -o cleanup_service_name=subcleanup [...] and further down the file: subcleanup unix n - - - 0 cleanup -o header_checks=pcre:/etc/postfix/smtp_header_checks which works perfectly for clients delivering their mail through the submission port. But my zarafa is of course not using the submission port to send mail, hence it doesn't hit the subcleanup routine and outgoing mails contain a very nice X-Mailer: Zarafa-exact_version header which is rather unsatisfying. Is there any way to make zarafa use the subcleanup routine? Any help is much appreciated.

    Hey I have to make a file system with an encrypted partition with on ubuntu server. something like Unencrypted: / - 10 GB /home - 10GB /var - 5GB -------------- Encrypted: /opt - 50GB This I can figure out in the setup, just partition as normal, setup /tmp as a encrypted volume with dm-crypt. However im not sure how to mirror this entire drive, so that if either failed i could still boot. and how will that affect the encrypted partition. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Sending mail from PHP with exim4

    Hello, A web server I manage is having problems sending mail from PHP. This server uses exim4 for MTA, and it is configured correctly. I can send emails from PHP's CLI, but not from the web. i.e. if I do "php mailtest.php" on the command line, the email gets sent correctly, but if I browse to server.com/mailtest.php, mail() returns false and the email never gets sent. Nothing appears in the exim mainlog. Any advice, or things I should look for ? Thanks!
