What would be your suggestion to apply?
Hey guys,
I am working on a Natural Language parser which examines a sentence in english and extracts some information like name, date etc.
for example: "Lets meet next tuesday at 5 PM at the beach."
So the output will be something like : "Lets meet 15/09/2009 at 1700 hr at the beach"
So basically, what i want to know is that is there any framework or library available for JAVA to do these kind of operations like parsing dates from a sentence and give a output with some specified format.

Pranav

Hi all,
I've been programming in Java for a few courses in the University and I have the following question:
Is it methodologically accepted that every class should implement an interface? Is it considered bad practice not to do so? Can you describe a situation where it's not a good idea to use interfaces?
Thanks.
Hi!
let say i have a string like this "neverMindWhat is upneverMind" and I want to take out the What is up using regexp with JAVA. Someone told me that using matcher will be the best. Can anyone show me how to do it using Matcher?
Other solutions are welcome too!
Thanks!
Disregarding my last post, I've found the source of the problem. I'm using
a.renameTo(b)
when b doesn't exist. The reason it doesn't exist is because there is a symbolic link so if b is "/usr/name/folder/file", then b really is "/mnt/MountTest" because the symlink is to that directory.
So the question is, is there an alternative way to rename a file in Java using a string value?
If not, how can this rename procedure be done differently?
Hello, I wonder if anyone can help - I have this error showing recently when debugging in eclipse - what doe it mean by resource, an imported package or the location of some java files ?

I am trying to dislplay a kannda character in a Java app.
String fonts[] = ge.getAvailableFontFamilyNames();
This shows that there is a font family by name "BRH Kannada"
Font f = new Font("BRH Kannada", Font.PLAIN, 20);
and then I do
button.setFont(f);
now when i set the button text, I have to ideally get the text on button to use the BRH kannada font.
However, what and how should I give the string as?
In my program I generate classes dynamically but when I try:
Class service = Class.forName("com.MyClass");
I recieve java.lang.ClassNotFoundException
If I run one more time the program (in Eclipse), then it is working.
Does anybody see the problem
I have an web application written in Java, and I have a thread-pool.
The application is huge, and I cannot make major changes, for example, I cannot change log4j.
I am executing a batch process in the thread pool, and I want to log everything that goes is executed to execute that process.
There will always be just one thread active in the thread pool.
Any ideas of how can I do that?
Can anyone recommend a tutorial on how to write a java servlet which connects to ms sql server and manages data?
I'm trying to write something which pulls products out of one database and inserts them into a stored procedure located on another database.
thanks in advance
Usually when I'm typing a Java import statement in Eclipse or otherwise referencing a class via the packages that it is in, Eclipse shows a context menu with a list of all classes within that package. There have been several times, however, that it would only shows subpackages within a package and would not show classes within that package.
Does anyone know why this is? It sounds like a setting/preference was changed, but I never knowingly changed anything related to this.
A popular editor uses highlighting to help programmers avoid using C++ keywords in Java. The following words are displayed using the same colors as a syntax error:
auto delete extern friend inline redeclared register signed sizeof
struct template typedef union unsigned operator
Why would this be considered important?

I have a Java source code that I need to interrogate and apply security policies [for e.g. applying CWE]
I have couple of ideas, for starters using AST and then travel thru the tree. Others include using regular expression.
Are there any options other than AST or regex that I could use for such process.
Hi,
I found Facelift which can basically generate html headings as images (with "nice font") on the fly. Does something similar exist for Java (couldn't find one myself)?

Is it possible to have multiple authentication methods for a java servlet? For example, have form based authentication in addition to open id based authentication so users can choose how they log in.
Hey,
I want to measure thread execution time in Java. Now I'm monitoring thread start and end times, but I think it's not so accurate because thread could be suspended during it execution.
I'm looking for a lightweight java reporting engine to be embedded in an applet application.
My first option was Jasper Reports, but the jar is over 2Mb, a little too heavy (and too bloated) for my needs. I don't know if there is modular jasper distribution, with funcionalities split in several jars (like html rendering, pdf, excel, compilation, runtime, etc).
I need to preview the report using Swing and print it. PDF export is a plus.
