  • Properly Configured Rsyslog on CentOS

    - by Gaia
I'm trying to configure Rsyslog 5.8.10 on CentOS 6.4 to send Apache's error and access logs to a remote server. It's working, but I have a couple questions. A) I would like to use as few queues (and resources) as possible. I send error logs to server A, send access logs to server A, send both logs in one stream to server B. Should I specify one queue per external service (2 queues) or one queue per stream (3 queues, as I have now)? • "macros have been disabled" message in Word 2007 but no macros

    - by Loftx
Hi there, I open a .doc file in Word 2007 (sorry I am unable to supply the .doc) which pops up with a message above the document "Security warning: Macros have been disabled" but there are no macros shown in the macros listing and no functionality displayed in the VBScript editor. Why does Word think this document contains macros and how can I remove them to prevent the warning? Thanks, Tom

  • CentOS 6 - Make system aware of custom lib paths and missing base links

    - by Mike Purcell
I am trying to compile libmemcached (1.0.7) on CentOS6, and keep getting the following warning: ... checking for event.h... no configure: WARNING: Unable to find libevent ... I manually compiled libevent (2.0.19) and built it using the following configure line: OPTIONS="--prefix=/usr/local/_custom/app/libevent" Everything compiled and installed fine, but I couldn't figure out how to make the system aware that the lib files are in the custom /usr/local/_custom/app/libevent/libdir. I stumbled upon an article and read that I can make the system aware of custom lib paths by adding a custom file to /etc/ld.so.conf.d/ directory: # /etc/ld.so.conf.d/customApp.conf /usr/local/_custom/app/libevent/lib Then I issued the ldconfig command and was able to confirm that libevent was included by issuing this command: ldconfig -p | ack -i libevent Seeing that libevent was now included in the ldconfig output, I figured I would be able to compile libmemcached and satisfy the aforementioned warning. Unfortunately it did not. So I took another look at the ldconfig output and noticed this: libevent_pthreads-2.0.so.5 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/local/_custom/app/libevent/lib/libevent_pthreads-2.0.so.5 libevent_openssl-2.0.so.5 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/local/_custom/app/libevent/lib/libevent_openssl-2.0.so.5 libevent_extra-2.0.so.5 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/local/_custom/app/libevent/lib/libevent_extra-2.0.so.5 libevent_core-2.0.so.5 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/local/_custom/app/libevent/lib/libevent_core-2.0.so.5 libevent-2.0.so.5 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/local/_custom/app/libevent/lib/libevent-2.0.so.5 There are no references to the base links, for example, I would expect to see links to these (ls -la /usr/local/_custom/app/libevent/lib): libevent.so -> libevent-2.0.so.5.1.7 libevent_openssl.so -> libevent_openssl-2.0.so.5.1.7 libevent_core.so -> libevent_core-2.0.so.5.1.7 So either I am doing something wrong, or the system still does not know where to look to find libevent.so. -- Update #1 -- I wasn't able to get libmemcached to compile without the warning notice, even after trying to compile using the following configure command: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/_custom/app/libmemcached CFLAGS="-I/usr/local/_custom/app/libevent/include" LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/_custom/app/libevent/lib" I thought for sure this would work because I am directly passing the include and lib directories to the configure command. But it did not.

  • The Alias directive ... will probably never match because it overlaps an earlier Alias.

    - by mmattax
I'm getting this warning from Apache: The Alias directive in /etc/httpd/conf.d/foo.conf at line 10 will probably never match because it overlaps an earlier Alias. However the Alias overlaps on a completely different virtual host. Might this be caused because one alias is on a name-based virtual host while the other alias is on an IP-based virtual host? Everything is working fine, just the warning is a bit annoying...

  • Converting an EC2 AMI to vmdk image

    - by Reed G. Law
I've come quite close to getting Amazon Linux to boot inside VirtualBox, thanks to this answer and these websites. A quick overview of the steps I've taken: Launch EC2 instance with Amazon Linux 2011.09 64-bit AMI dd the contents of the EBS volume over ssh to a local image file. Mount the image file as a loopback device and then to a local mount point. Create a new empty disk image file, partition with an offset for a bootloader, and create an ext4 filesystem. Mount the new image's partition and copy everything from the EC2 image. Install grub (using Ubuntu's grub-legacy-ec2 package, not grub2). Convert the image file to vmdk using qemu-img. Create a new VirtualBox VM with the vmdk. Now the VM boots, grub loads, and the kernel is found. But it fails when it tries to mount the root device: dracut Warning: No root device "block:/dev/xvda1" found dracut Warning: Boot has failed. To debug this issue add "rdshell" to the kernel command line. dracut Warning: Signal caught! dracut Warning: Boot has failed. To debug this issue add "rdshell" to the kernel command line. Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! Pid: 1, comm: init Not tainted 2.6.35.14-107.1.39.amzn1.x86_64 #1 I have tried changing /boot/grub/menu.lst to find the root device by label and UUID, but nothing works. I'm guessing the xen kernel is not compatible with VirtualBox. The reasoning behind all this effort is to make a Vagrant box that is as close to possible as the production enviroment, so deploys can be tested locally. I know it's cheap to do test runs on EC2, but poor connectivity often ruins the experience. Plus it would be really nice to have a virtual machine with the production environment so that co-workers don't have to install everything under the sun just to get up and running with app development. If I were to try running a different kernel, what kernel could I get to be as close as possible to Amazon Linux 2011.09?

Scenario: I open a file, I edit it. After I began editing, the file is modified by another program. Finally, I save the file. In that case, Vim would provide that helpful warning: WARNING: The file has been changed since reading it Do you really want to write to it (y/n)? But Textmate will overwrite the file silently, which can result in unpleasant data loss (in my case, a de facto revert on Git). How can I prevent that?

  • How to conform to update-rc.d with LSB standard?

    - by user34881
This is a migrated question from stackoverflow, as I was told, this is the place for it to be. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2263567/how-to-conform-to-update-rc-d-with-lsb-standard I have set up a simple script to back up some directories. While I haven't had any problems setting up the functionality, I'm stuck with adding the script to rcX.d dir's using update-rc.d. My script: #! /bin/sh ### BEGIN INIT INFO # Provides: backup # Required-Start: backup # Required-Stop: # Should-Stop: # Default-Start: 0 6 # Default-Stop: # Description: Backs up some dirs ### END INIT INFO check_mounted() { # Check if HD is mounted } do_backup() { if check_mounted; then # Some rsync statements. fi } case "$1" in start) do_backup ;; restart|reload|force-reload) echo "Error: argument '$1' not supported" >&2 exit 3 ;; stop|"") # No-op ;; *) echo "Usage: backup [start]" >&2 exit 3 ;; esac : Using update-rc.d backup start 10 0 6 . I get the following warnings and errors: update-rc.d: warning: backup start runlevel arguments (none) do not match LSB Default-Start values (0 6) update-rc.d: warning: backup stop runlevel arguments (0 6.) do not match LSB Default-Stop values (none) update-rc.d: error: start|stop arguments not terminated by "." The syntax I try to use is the following: update-rc.d [-n] <basename> start|stop NN runlvl [runlvl] [...] . Google wasn't that helpful at finding a solution. How can I correctly set up a script and add it via update-rc.d? I'm using Ubuntu 9.10. UPDATE Using update-rc.d backup start 10 0 6 . stop 10 0 . the error disappears. The warnings about default values persists: update-rc.d: warning: backup start runlevel arguments (none) do not match LSB Default-Start values (0 6) update-rc.d: warning: backup stop runlevel arguments (0 6 0 6) do not match LSB Default-Stop values (none) It even is added to the appropiate rcX-dirs but it still does not get executed...

I am trying to activate the ftp service on our FreeNAS, but I keep getting Dec 5 15:44:20 Wheelhouse NAS notifier: - Fatal: error processing configuration file '/usr/local/etc/proftpd.conf' Dec 5 15:44:20 Wheelhouse NAS root: /usr/local/etc/rc.d/proftpd: WARNING: failed to start proftpd Dec 5 15:44:20 Wheelhouse NAS notifier: /usr/local/etc/rc.d/proftpd: WARNING: failed to start proftpd I haven't touched proftpd.conf -- can I delete it? Or is there a default version I can replace it with?

  • KVM-Guest does not boot: qemudParsePCIDeviceStrs

    - by markus
I have a Server running Ubuntu 10.10 Server-Edition kvm, and libvirt (both ubuntu-native packages) HDD-Partitioning was done with LVM. Then I created some VMs with Virt-Manager and assigned LVM-Volumes to the VMs. Now the VMs do not boot. Virt-Manager shows a CPU-Usage of 100% for this Guest and the VNC-Connection states Booting from Hard Disk The VM-specific logfiles do not show any abnormality only syslog shows a warning warning : qemudParsePCIDeviceStrs:1422 : Unexpected exit status '1', qemu probably failed What can I do to find the error?

  • removing specific warnings in Apache error.log

    - by Tereno
Here's my situation. I have a directive that goes something like this: Options MultiViews FollowSymLinks I have a location directive where I have Options +Includes This causes warning errors in my Apache error log: mod_include: Options +Includes (or IncludesNoExec) wasn't set, INCLUDES filter removed These warnings are gone when I add +Includes to my options but I don't want. I want to have the Includes filter removed but without having warning errors. If there's something unclear, feel free to ask. Thanks
