I have not seen the messages re-occurring. This is on a Solaris 9 Sparc system V240. The disks are managed by SVM and "metadb" is showing the flags as "a" Are there any tests or indications as to check/see if the disk is actually failing or was that error message initiated by something else. • print job doesn't go to print queue

  I have two printers hooked up to my intel imac. I am having a printing error. It seems that whenever i try to print (a simple text doc) I am unable to get the print job to go to print queue with one of my printers. I have a HP c7280 and a HP c3100. I am able to get one working properly, but the other doesn't seem to allow it to go to the print queue. I have switched usb cables (with the printer that I know works) and both printers are recognized by the computer in the printer preferences pane. I've tried reseting the printer system in the printer setup utility.. reloaded the drivers from HP.. etc. If anyone has a suggestion or could point me to a little help i'd be VERY grateful Best Regards..   I have recently signed up for the Standard account of Google apps. In my company I have certain email addresses that are handled by multiple users. For example the support emails are handled by multiple users. Now I have just multiple users log into the same account, but this is not a good practice. It can get quite messy when some emails are handled by different users but on the same email address. Now I looked into the groups option. I have made a group for [email protected], and added all the users to the group. Now everybody gets a copy of the support message sent. But its got a bigger mess because the users don't know who handles which message. Is there some workaround to this so I can make good use of this all in this way.

• Why does OS X automatically logout my user?

  I have a new MacBook Air set up with filevault. In the Security preference pane I have "Require password 1 hour after sleep or screen saver begins" enabled, but the "Logout after 60 minutes of inactivity" is disabled. When I leave the computer on overnight I manually lock the screen (from the Keychain status menu bar, which I enabled via the Keychain Access preferences). Alas, in the morning I find that instead of a locked screen I see the login window, after my user was logged out with all applications terminated... (e.g. Firefox thinks it previously crashed when I launch it). This type of behavior only started after I enabled Filevault. Why is this happening? How do I prevent such auto-logout?

• Change the update channel in Portable Thunderbird?

  I think it needs some explanation How to update a TB Portable installation to beta or aurora. I tried to change the preferences in about:config: update.channel to aurora but that had no effect. Then I edited ThunderbirdPortable3\App\thunderbird\defaults\pref\channel-prefs.js and restarted TB. There I got the message in the Help screen, that I am on update channel aurora, which seems fine. Still: the update downloaded Thunderbird 29 pre beta and tried to install but ended with the message that it couldnt be installed due to patch problems: Das Update konnte nicht installiert werden (Patch-Anwendung fehlgeschlagen) I tried this again with the channel "nightly" and got the same error. (On channel "beta" there seem to be no newer version than in the channel "release".) How can I change my installation to channel aurora and update it?

• Windows undetectable after interrupted chkdsk

  I have a computer that is running Windows XP. For some reason, the other day it wouldn't start giving me the following message: "ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt" So I put the XP disc in the tray and fired up the repair console and ran the following: chkdsk /r It was on for about eight hours and it got to about 52% I believe. Then there was a power outage and the computer shut down (obviously). Today when I was booting it, it isn't even detecting there's an OS anymore. If I boot the computer with no cd in the tray it says: "Reboot and select a proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key" If I run the repair console, or the xp installation program it isn't finding any OS installations. Any ideas on what to do next? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Update: After turning boot-time diagnostics on, I got this message when booting without cd (instead of the previous one): "Couldn't open drive multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)"

• "Can't open display" even after access with xhost

  I'm trying to run a graphical program remotely, without using ssh. I've set the display variable on the server (let's say server.com, Linux, not ubuntu, and no su rights) to point to my workstation (workstation.com, ubuntu 10.04) setenv DISPLAY workstation.com:0 Then on my workstation I've tried both xhost +server.com and xhost + Then I ssh into the server (to test things): ssh [email protected] and try to run xclock, and get the following error: Error: Can't open display: workstation.com:0 I've looked at /etc/ssh/ssh_config on the workstation and I should be forwarding correctly: X11Forwarding yes. How do I go about troubleshooting this? What logs on the workstation document these failed attempts? To explain why I'm doing this: I want to run a batch job on a server to debug an MPI-based parallel program. I want to run xterm as the batch job executable, per the instructions provided by the system admins. This setup use to work. I reinstalled things on my workstation and since then I frequently get one-time message along the lines The authenticity of host 'hostname (XXX.XXX.XXX.XX)' can't be established. My attempt to fix the above was to move my ~/.ssh/known_hosts file to a back up on both server and host, and then to ssh from each to the other with the flag -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no. I no longer get that message, but I was wondering does this play a part in why X11 forwarding is not working?

• Can't write to disk

  I have seen questions similar to this, but the answers are either beyond me or the situation doesn't quite match mine. Would appreciate some direction. I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. The OS is on a disk formatted as ext4. I added another disk to the system and formatted it as W95 FAT 32 (LBA) (0x0c). I did this because I am moving from Windows to Linux, will be needing to go back and forth with data for a while, and might need to move the disk to a Windows machine. There may have been a better format to use, but if so I didn't know any better. I was able to transfer data from an external drive to this FAT32 drive with no problem. Now, though, when I try to create a new folder or write a file to the disk I get a message that the disk is read-only. If I go to the properties, permissions for the disk, for Folder Access it says 'create and delete files'. If I try to change File Access underneath to 'read and write', either nothing happens or I get a message it can't be done. Thank you for any help.

When a message is posted by an user X, all users who have subscribed to messages of User X will be sent an email. How to achieve this ? I'm thinking of using publish-subscribe pattern. And then I came through JMS. Which is the best JMS implementation to use according to your experience ? Or else what else solution do you propose to the given problem ? Shall I go for a straight-forward solution ?: User x posts a message, I find all users (from database) who subscribe to user x and then for every user, I call the sendEmail() method. • How do I remove a malformed line from my sources.list?

  I have unistalled and reinstalled the Ubuntu Software Center as per info I found in a similar thread and I got the same response about line 91 or something like that. I just tried to upload a screen shot but since I'm new it won't allow me to. I also can not figure out how to cut and paste anything so I have to hand type what the error screen says, both when I attempt to open the software center and nothing happens, when I try to enter commands into the terminal to uninstall, reinstall, whatever I get the same following: COULD NOT INTITIALIZE THE PACKAGE INFORMATION An unresolvable problem occured while initializing the package information Please report t:his bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message: 'E: Malformed line 91 in source list/etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse) E: The list of sources could not be read., E: The package list of status file could not be parsed or opened. How do I report bugs? What can be done about this. I have searched and everything everyone says to do leads me back to the same line error message. So, I don't know how to get to line 91 in the source list; to tell you what it says. Sorry, I'm really new to this. That is what I need is to find out how to get there and fix what it says. I would really like to NOT have to re partition my hard drive and start from scratch, so I'm really looking forward to getting this problem solved. I need to be able to install new software.

• Ok to edit task's xml file in c:\windows\system32\Tasks?

  I wrote a PowerShell script that check the executable in the < action tag for each task in the Task directory and mark the < enabled TRUEorFALSE< / enabled tag as false/true depending on the validity of the digital signature of the executable. After reading each task, the script re-saves the task file with the same name, type and location. Now my issue is that I get this message when I lunch task scheduler: “Task XYZ: The task image is corrupt or has been tampered with.” This message appears for all the tasks that were scanned and saved. Does editing task’s xml file directly corrupt the task? Is there any task decency that may cause this error(ex: registry value)?

• How can I use encryption with Gmail?

  I'm currently reading Cory Doctorow's novel Little Brother which includes a part about encrypted messaging, and even wrapping messages first in my private key and then your public key. I'd like to play around with that but from what I've googled so far it seems to be a rather convoluted process, requiring installing several program components, and creating an encrypted message requires doing some manual file manipulation. I'm surprised that I can't find something like a Firefox plugin that integrates encryption into Gmail. I've seen that there is a Thunderbird PGP plugin, but I don't use T-bird. I also saw a blog post that Google apparently toyed with PGP support in 2009, but nothing has appeared in the meantime. Question: To use encryption with Gmail, is there a simpler method than creating a file locally, then encrypting that file, and finally attaching it to a regular Gmail message?

• "svchost.exe cannot be allowed through firewall" ftp server

  Alright here's my problem iv recently set up an ftp server and everything works fine except when i try to allow svchost.exe through the firewall, I get the error message "windows cannot allow svchost through firewall". If i disable the firewall there are no problems but i would rather have the firewall up (for obvious reasons) can anyone please tell me why it is not allowing the application through the firewall and how to fix? Or what i may have done wrong to receive this message as all the tutorials iv seen do not have this issue. Thanks in advance for any help.

• Raid recovery in gigabyte GA-8I945 Pro

  This was a working machine until a few days ago. And now it won't boot into the OS, during startup if makes clicking sounds (I think from one of the drives). Installed OS: Windows 2003 Web edition Hardware: Gigabyte GA-8I945P Pro , 2*160G Sata in RAID1 configuration , 2 Volumes – 25G and the rest. When I installed windows on it, during setup, I pressed F6 and used ICH7DH drivers of RAID. The manual for the MOBO says: Step 1: After the POST memory test begins and before the operating system boot begins, look for a message which says "Press to enter Configuration utility" (Figure 4). Press CTRL+ I to enter the RAID BIOS setup utility. But the machine never shows this message. BIOS SATA RAID/AHCI Mode is set to RAID. Any ideas or pointers on what I can do to recover my data? • install android sdk on kubuntu

  I'm trying to follow the instructions for installing the android sdk found here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/adding-packages.html After i've unpackaged and i run the android program under tools, I don't get all the options that I'm supposed to. The only 2 folders that show up are tools, and extras. Under tools, it only shows the "Android SDK Tools" with the status "Installed". Under the "extas" folder, I have nothing. I've made sure that my http: proxy settings are correct. And I've checked the logs. there are no errors. According to the android developer site, I'm supposed to install the SDK platform tools. has anyone tried this on ubuntu? I also checked and saw others were instructed to do an apt-get install ia32-libs but it failed for me. Besides which, I am running the 32bit os... so I don't think i would need to install that... ?? I've also tried following the instructions found here: http://forums.team-nocturnal.com/showthread.php/772 But... • Installing Drupal: Database configuration problem.

  I am trying to install Drupal 6.16 on a clean website. I get through the "Verify Requirements" page easily. On the Database Configuration, I supply all the proper info, but "Save and Continue" returns me back to the same page, with no error message. I am unable to proceed past this point. I've verified my info with the ISP, including a non-local database host (under Advanced Options), and that the database user has full DBA rights. The lack of an error message is particularly frustrating. Do you have any ideas what the problem is, or how to pursue it and resolve it?

Please check error log.'; } ?> I get the Mail sent message but don't receive a message in my inbox. Not even in the spam folder. Anything wrong I'm doing?

• Can't reinstall Office 2010

  I had Office 2010 Professional Plus installed on my Windows 7 (32 bit machine), then I decided to remove it and install the 2013 version. I went to Programs and Features and removed the software as always, everything went successfully and it asked me to reboot the machine in order to complete the un-installation process, and when I clicked reboot a message suddenly appears telling me that an error occurred during un-installation and the system restarts instantly before I get a chance to see the error message. After that I tried to re-install Office 2010 but after the installer seems to have finished, it tells me that the installation failed without an explanations ? I have taken a look at the event viewer and there is some error saying the office protection platform service failed to start, could this have anything to do with the problem? What could be the cause, how can I fix this ?

• Corosync - stopping the service crashes the server

  I am trying to set up a test cluster on a Xen Server with 2 paravirtualized CentOS 5.4 machines. I am using Pacemaker+Corosync, and following the instructions found at http://www.clusterlabs.org/doc/Cluster_from_Scratch.pdf and other sites. Anyway, when I try to manually stop the corosync service, about 80% of the times the whole VM locks up with the message "Waiting for corosync services to unload" and I am forced to shut the machine down manually. For the remaining 20%, the VM keeps responding and adds dots to the above message, but it won't actually stop the service. There aren't many resources on the internet about this particular error. Any ideas about this? Thanks in advance.

  A client recently switched to Exchange Server / Outlook for their email. Since then emails from my company to any email address at their company bounce back from the System Administrator with this error: Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. Subject: Email Solution Sent: 12/12/2012 11:08 AM The following recipient(s) cannot be reached: '[email protected]' on 12/12/2012 11:08 AM 550 5.1.1 <[email protected]> recipient rejected Looking in the Message Options of the bounce back email shows no data in the Internet Header field. My client's IT guy says we're not being blocked, but I cant think of any other reason the bounce would occur. Any suggestions on what questions to ask or how to fix this would be helpful. I'm using a desktop version of Outlook 2007 and connecting through my ISP. Thanks.
