I need a raytracer, but I have some trouble with povray. is there a free, cross platform alternative which accepts a simple subset of povray syntax ? need to run it from command line. no graphics.
I'm trying to configure the cygwin to work with TWiki, I have to input this in the Cygwin bash shell:
mount -b -s c:/...
but it doesn't recognize the -s, I already fixed the problem with -b, it changed the syntax and now is mount -o binary for the mount -b part. But now it says unknown option with the "-s" anyone?? help?? or what does the -s mean, so I can look it up :S
When I'm using auctex with emacs to write LaTeX documents, I would like to be able to add a couple more options to the list of environment types that auctex "recognises" and can autocomplete, namely Theorem, Lemma, Proof, itemize* and a couple of others. Which variable to I need to edit? I have played around in customize-apropos LaTeX and auctex, but I haven't found it.
(lisp code snippet to add to my .emacs would be preferred, I don't quite understand the syntax yete)
This is my dir list on my NFS:
macbook-pro-andrey-k:Download Andrey$
ls
1289816143_PL_t1181913
1289816171_PL_t1183807
1290117075_BFD_DVD02(Drums)
I can't delete "1290117075_BFD_DVD02(Drums)" using
sudo rm -Rf
1290117075_BFD_DVD02(Drums)
because I get error message
-bash: syntax error near unexpected
token `('
Hlp plz, how can I either rename the dir so that the error message would not show up or delete the dir right away omitting rename procedure?
Thank you.

Now I get a script.sh, previously it was executed using PuTTY provided it was written in VMWare, but now I want to execute in Windows using Cygwin, I already copy the script.sh out to the corresponding directory, but some commands Cygwin can not recognise.
generate(){
date +%T

script.sh: line 3: syntax errot neat unexpected token '$'<\r''
script.sh: line 3:'generate<><
Let's say there are some folder in the D: drive:
D:\Air
D:\Abonden
D:\All
D:\Whatever
I want to delete all folders starting with "A" (including all subfolders and files). I tried this command:
rmdir D:\A* /s /q
I get an error, though :(
The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
The del command works with *, but I need to delete folders as well.
Is there a way to achieve that via the rmdir command?
I can't wrap my brain around the new pam.d configuration syntax used in Ubuntu 10.04. How do I setup PAM so that it allows users stored in my LDAP database to login.
I already configured nscd, so id <user> or getent passwd are already listing my LDAP users, but PAM doesn't work, whether the normal shell login nor su.
My text and programmers editor of choice, when working on a windows box is TSE (The Semware Editor). It is small, it is fast, it is configurabel, and since I've used it (and it's predecessor QEdit) for over twenty years, my fingers can do the editing on autopilot, while the brain is busy with syntax and design.
Do you know of a similar editor preferably one that runs on Windows, Linux and OS X (and Solaris ..)
I've tried to use VIM (I know how to use VI even longer thant TSE) but it doesn't feel right.
i am trying to set the environment variables in tcsh shell and it is not working. This is the syntax that i am using currently
setenv MYSQL_HOME=/opt/mysql/mysql/bin
my other question is i have a c-shell script that i am editing. Is setenv the same as a regular set MYSQL=${MYSQL_HOME}/bin/sqlplus?
set MYSQL_HOME=/opt/mysql/mysql/bin
or should i just set the MYSQL_HOME to where the mysql executable is ?
I want to copy a file (file.txt) inside all folders of a given destination. I want to create a batch file that does the job, but i'm not so skilled in windows batch syntax.
Any kind of help is useful,
Thanks

Our internal website links to Excel files on a network-mapped drive. The links specify the filename and worksheet to open, in the following format (path and link information omitted):
ExcelFileName#'SheetName'!$A$1
This works fine with Excel 2003, but we're moving to Excel 2007, which won't even open the file if that extra information is present.
I haven't been able to find a definitive answer on whether this feature has been removed (or the syntax changed) in 2007. Any help will be highly appreciated!
I have this command to create a service:
sc create svnserve binpath="\"C:\Program Files (x86)\Subversion\bin\svnserve.exe\" --service --root C:\SVNRoot" displayname="Subversion" depend=tcpip start=auto obj="NT AUTHORITY\LocalService"
Unfortunately, it seems not to work, even though the syntax is correct. When I run it, I get the usage instructions (which I guess is a way of telling me that I've supplied incorrect arguments, although I have no idea what incorrect argument I might have supplied).
Can anyone help me out of my difficulty? Thanks!
I wish that label:Receipts and not label:Red-Box worked, but it doesn't I want to delete all my redbox advertising, but keep my red-box receipts (which are doubly labeled). Seems easy but I could spend all day trying to figure out their syntax and am pretty sure that someone has the cheat sheet I couldn't find on their website.
I open a command prompt window in XP. There I run a command line program (foo.exe) and I want to capture stdout in a file. So I run it like this:
foo fooResult.txt
However, at the same time I would like stdout to still be fed to the screen of the command prompt window. What is the syntax for that?
How do I start a service with certain parameters? In another question I have found
net start servicename /blah
but if I try this, net throws a syntax error at me.
What am I doing wrong?
I want to ftp a large file from a Windows client to a Windows server, using their IP addresses. This is on an internet independent network. While the file is transferring, I would like to determine how many bytes have been received by the server. I then would like to use this information to determine in real-time the percentage of the file that has been transferred to the server.
Any recommendations as to the ftp command syntax and C# code to achieve this?

I'm trying to run this in a Win 7 Professional admin console:
schtasks /create /tn "Task at 16:40 on 10/27/2012"
/sc "once" /st "16:40" /sd "10/27/2012"
/tr "c:\python27\python.exe c:\users\jost\Desktop\executeScript.py"
All referenced files exist. The error message I get is
ERROR: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
What is wrong? Running the command directly on the command line works fine.
I can't stand the Windows command "shell" and console window. I can't copy text off a command prompt window, the .bat syntax is retarded, I can't stand how the command buffer works, it doesn't support ANSI color codes, I could go on and on.
Are there any alternatives to the Windows command prompt?

Is there a way to create a wildcard domain in the Windows hosts file.
I tried this
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx *.somedomain.com
This does not work, is there maybe some other syntax I should use?

I'm working on setting up Trac to use wsgi, and am running into trouble getting mod_wsgi working. I downloaded and installed mod_sgi.
[box]# apachectl configtest
httpd: Syntax error on line 214 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf: Can't locate API module structure `mod_wsgi' in file /etc/httpd/modules/mod_wsgi.so: /etc/httpd/modules/mod_wsgi.so: undefined symbol: mod_wsgi
Line 214 of httpd.conf:
LoadModule mod_wsgi modules/mod_wsgi.so
Here is mod_wsgi.so as found on the filesystem:
[box]# locate mod_wsgi.so
/usr/lib64/httpd/modules/mod_wsgi.so
What might I be overlooking?
