  • How can i modify my Grub 1.99 configurations to install a new kernel?

    I have configured kernel 3.2.x and made some changes in the kernel. I have compiled it and have the compiled image of the kernel with me. The problem i am facing is as in how to modify the boot loader Grub 1.99 in my case, so that i can boot through the new kernel i have compiled. I looked on net for any tutorials but all of them talked about older versions of Grub ? Can someone please give some info or point me towards some resource ? Currently i have compiled my new custom kernel image and have copied it to /boot.

  • I need help with a timer for a text based game, i need to include a mysql query to it, but not sure how.

  • Is there a simple, flat, XML-based query-able data storage solution? [closed]

    I have been in long pursuit of an XML-based query-able data store, and despite continued searches and evaluations, I have yet to find a solution that meets the my needs, which include: Data is wholly contained within XML nodes, in flat text files. There is a "native" - or at least unobtrusive - method with which to perform Create/Read/Update/Delete (CRUD) operations onto the "schema". I would consider access via http, XHR, javascript, PHP, BASH, or PERL to be unobtrusive, dependent on the complexity of the set of dependencies. Server-side file-system reads and writes. A client-side interface element, accessible in any browser without a plug-in. Some extra, preferred (but optional) requirements include: Respond to simple SQL, or similarly syntax queries. Serve the data on a bare bones https server, with no "extra stuff", either via XMLHTTPRequest, HTTP proper, or JSON. A few thoughts: What I'm looking for may be possible via some Java server implementations, but for the sake of this question, please do not suggest that - unless it meets ALL the requirements. Java, especially on the client-side is not really an option, nor is it appealing from a development viewpoint.* I know walking the filesystem is a stretch, and I've heard it's possible with XPATH or XSLT, but as far as I know, that's not ready for primetime, nor even yet a recommendation. However the ability to recursively traverse the filesystem is needed for such a system to be of useful facility. At this point, I have basically implemented what I described via, of all things, CGI and Bash, but there has to be an easier way. Thoughts?

  • Requiring a specific order of compilaiton

    When designing a compiled programming language, is it a bad idea to require a specific order of compilation of separate units, according to their dependencies? To illustrate what I mean, consider C. C is the opposite of what I'm suggesting. There are multiple .c files, that can all depend on each other, but all of these separate units can be compiled on their own, in no particular order - only to be linked together into a final executable later. This is mostly due to header files. They enable separate units to share information with each other, and thus the units are able to be compiled independently. If a language were to dispose of header files, and only keep source and object files, then the only option would be to actually include the unit's meta-information in the unit's object file. However, this would mean that if the unit A depends on the unit B, then the unit B would need to be compiled before unit A, so unit A could "import" the unit B's object file, thus obtaining the information required for its compilation. Am I missing something here? Is this really the only way to go about removing header files in compiled languages?

    I have a learning project where a data grid is filtered by 3 controls (a checkbox and 2 dropdowns) I'm about to wrap up and move on to another project as it works well but I don't like the complexity of nesting IF statements to capture all the possible combinations of the 3 filters and was wondering if there is a better way.     I have a quite complicated query which will by built up dynamically and is saved in a variable. As second part i have another normal query and i'd like to make an inner join between these both. To make it a little more easier here is a little example to illustrate my problem. For this little example i used the AdventureWorks database. Some query built up dynamically (Yes, i know here is nothing dynamic here, cause it's just an example.)   • SPARQL UNION - Result set incomplete

    I have two queries: query 1: SELECT DISTINCT ?o COUNT(?o) WHERE { ?s1 ?somep1 <predicate_one-uri>. ?s1 ?p ?o} query 2: SELECT DISTINCT ?o COUNT(?o) WHERE {?s2 ?somep2 <predicate_two-uri>.?s2 ?p ?o.} Each query gives me a different result set (as expected). I need to make a union of these two sets, from what I understand the query below should give me the set I want: SELECT DISTINCT ?o COUNT(?o) WHERE { { ?s1 ?somep1 <predicate_one-uri>.?s1 ?p1 ?o} UNION {?s2 ?somep2 <predicate_two-uri>.?s2 ?p2 ?o.} } The problem is that some results from query 1 are not in the union set and vice-versa for query 2. The union is not working properly as it does not incorporate all results of query 1 and query 2. Please advise on the proper structure of the sparql query for achieving the desired result set. Does anyone know about Hibernate pagination mechanism? I guess that Hibernate will select all data, put data into Resultset, and then paging in Resultset, right?

    I am getting Cannot enlist Synchronization. LocalTransactionCoordinator is completing or completed exception when integrating my method is called from the portlet. I am using spring transaction management for handling all the hibernate transaction in the spring configuration file through AOP. When I run my hibernate dao method for persisting the data through Junit its working fine. Exception description: I am facing an issue that is when I run my code through unit test case data is getting updated in database properly but when I run the same code with integration with portlet my code is executing finely but after the completion of transaction the records is not getting updated to database.   • LINQ to Twitter Queries with LINQPad

    LINQPad is a popular utility for .NET developers who use LINQ a lot.  In addition to standard SQL queries, LINQPad also supports other types of LINQ providers, including LINQ to Twitter.  The following sections explain how to set up LINQPad for making queries with LINQ to Twitter. LINQPad comes in a couple versions and this example uses LINQPad4, which runs on the .NET Framework 4.0. 1. The first thing you'll need to do is set up a reference to the LinqToTwitter.dll. From the Query menu, select query properties. Click the Browse button and find the LinqToTwitter.dll binary. You should see something similar to the Query Properties window below. 2. While you have the query properties window open, add the namespace for the LINQ to Twitter types.  Click the Additional Namespace Imports tab and type in LinqToTwitter. The results are shown below: 3. The default query type, when you first start LINQPad, is C# Expression, but you'll need to change this to support multiple statements.  Change the Language dropdown, on the Main window, to C# Statements. 4. To query LINQ to Twitter, instantiate a TwitterContext, by typing the following into the LINQPad Query window: var ctx = new TwitterContext(); Note: If you're getting syntax errors, go back and make sure you did steps #2 and #3 properly. 5. Next, add a query, but don't materialize it, like this: var tweets = from tweet in ctx.Status where tweet.Type == StatusType.Public select new { tweet.Text, tweet.Geo, tweet.User }; 6. One tip, you'll probably want to make this easier on yourself by creating your own DLL that encapsulates all of the OAuth logic and then call a method or property on you custom class that returns a fully functioning TwitterContext.  This will help avoid adding all this code every time you want to make a query. Now, you know how to set up LINQPad for LINQ to Twitter, perform unauthenticated queries, and perform queries with OAuth. Joe

    Skip to the "specific question" as needed. Some background: The scenario: I have a set of products with a "drill down" filter (Query Object) populated with DDLs. Each progressive DDL selection will further limit the product list as well as what options are left for the DDLs. For example, selecting a hammer out of tools limits the Product Sizes to only show hammer sizes. Current setup: I created a query object, sent it to a repository, and fed each option to a SQL "table valued function" where null values represent "get all products". I consider this a good effort, but far from DDD acceptable. I want to avoid any "programming" in SQL, hopefully doing everything with a repository. Comments on this topic would be appreciated. Specific question: How would I rewrite this query as a Dynamic Query? A link to something like 101 Linq Examples would be fantastic, but with a Dynamic Query scope. I really want to pass to this method the field in quotes "" for which I want a list of options and how many products have that option. from p in db.Products group p by p.ProductSize into g select new Category { PropertyType = g.Key, Count = g.Count() } Each DDL option will have "The selection (21)" where the (21) is the quantity of products that have that attribute.   • Has anyone compiled PCRE for Windows x64 - if so, how?

    I'm trying to compile PCRE (v8.02) for Windows x64, using Vs2008. The "NON-UNIX-USE" file tells me to use cmake to generate a .sln fle. That works. When I run the build it succeeds, with 91 warnings. All appear to be size conversion warnings. Am I doing something wrong? Should I expect all these warnings? Has anyone else built PCRE for Windows x64, successfully, and without warnings?

  • Why is Reporting Services report vastly slower than its query?

    I have a query that takes roughly 2 minutes to run. It's not terribly complex in terms of parameters or anything, and the report itself doesn't do any truly extensive processing. Basically just spits the data straight out in a nice format. (Actually one of the reports doesn't format the data at all, just returns a flat table meant to be manipulated in excel.) It's not returning a massive set of data either. Yet the report takes upwards of 30 minutes to run. What could cause this? This is SSRS 2005 against a SQL 2005 database btw. EDIT: OK, I found that with the addition of WITH (NOLOCK) in the report it takes the same time as the query does through SSMS. Why would the query be handled differently if it's coming from reporting services (or visual studio on my local machine) than if coming from SSMS on my local machine? I saw the query running in Activity Monitor a couple times in SLEEP_WAIT mode, but not blocked by anything... EDIT2: The connection string is: Data Source=SERVERNAME;Initial Catalog=DBName

The issue: I'd like to release some dll's that will add extra functionality to applications, but i thats all i want them to be used for. adding functionality to applications.   • How can I create a dynamic LINQ query in C# with possible multiple group by clauses?

    I have been a programmer for some years now but I am a newcomer to LINQ and C# so forgive me if my question sounds particularly stupid. I hope someone may be able to point me in the right direction. My task is to come up with the ability to form a dynamic multiple group by linq query within a c# script using a generic list as a source. For example, say I have a list containing multiple items with the following structure: FieldChar1 - character FieldChar2 - character FieldChar3 - character FieldNum1 - numeric FieldNum2 - numeric In a nutshell I want to be able to create a LINQ query that will sum FieldNum1 and FieldNum2 grouped by any one, two or all three of the FieldChar fields that will be decided at runtime depending on the users requirements as well as selecting the FieldChar fields in the same query. I have the dynamic.cs in my project which icludes a GroupByMany extension method but I have to admit I am really not sure how to put these to use. I am able to get the desired results if I use a query with hard-wired group by requests but not dynamically. I've dumped the Railo java object, and don't see init() among the methods. Am I missing something simple? I'd love to get this working in Railo as well. Please note: I am doing a DSN-less connection to a SQLite db. I understand how to set up a CF datasource. My only hiccup at this point is doing the translation from a Java result set to a Railo query.

  • Singleton code linker errors in vc 9.0. Runs fine in linux compiled with gcc

    I have a simple logger that is implemented as a singleton. It works like i want when I compile and run it with g++ in linux but when I compile in Visual Studio 9.0 with vc++ I get the following errors. Is there a way to fix this?   • Make a compiled binary run at native speed flawlessly without recompiling from source on a another system?

    I know that many people, at a first glance of the question, may immediately yell out "Java", but no, I know Java's qualities. Allow me to elaborate my question first. Normally, when we want our program to run at a native speed on a system, whether it be Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux, we need to compile from source codes. If you want to run a program of another system in your system, you need to use a virtual machine or an emulator. While these tools allow you to use the program you need on the non-native OS, they sometimes have problems of performance and glitches. We also have a newer compiler called "JIT Compiler", where the compiler will parse the bytecode program to native machine language before execution. The performance may increase to a very good extent with JIT Compiler, but the performance is still not the same as running it on a native system. Another program on Linux, WINE, is also a good tool for running Windows program on Linux system. I have tried running Team Fortress 2 on it, and tried experiment with some settings. I got ~40 fps on Windows at its mid-high setting on 1280 x 1024. On Linux, I need to turn everything low at 1280 x 1024 to get ~40 fps. There are 2 notable things though: Polygon model settings do not seem to affect framerate whether I set it low or high. When there are post-processing effects or some special effects that require manipulation of drawn pixels of the current frame, the framerate will drop to 10-20 fps. From this point, I can see that normal polygon rendering is just fine, but when it comes to newer rendering methods that requires graphic card to the job, it slows down to a crawl. Anyway, this question is rather theoretical. Is there anything we can do at all? I see that WINE can run STEAM and Team Fortress 2. Although there are flaws, they can run at lower setting. Or perhaps, I should also ask, "is it possible to translate one whole program on a system to another system without recompiling from source and get native speed?" I see that we also have AOT Compiler, is it possible to use it for something like this? Or there are so many constraints (such as DirectX call or differences in software architecture) that make it impossible to have a flawless and not native to the system program that runs at native speed?

  • What could prevent from running a binary on linux distribution compiled on a different platform ?

    We have 2 different compilation machine: red hat as4 and as5. Our architects require us, developers, to compile our program on those 2 platforms each time before copying them on their respective machine in production. What could prevent us from compiling our application on one machine only (let say the red has as 4 for instance) and deploy that binary on all target platform instead ? What is your point of view and could you pinpoint specific issues you've encountered with doing so ? What issues may I face with doing so ?
