    On my Ubuntu machine, I have installed MySQL . I notice that there are /etc/my.cnf file which contain the content (only two lines): innodb_buffer_pool_size = 1G max_allowed_packet = 512M While there is also /etc/mysql/my.cnf with a long content like: # The MySQL database server configuration file. ... ... For me, it looks like both are configurations for MySQL server, but Why there are two my.cnf in different locations, can't the content to be merged to one my.cnf ? What is the purpose to have seperate my.cnf for MySQL server ?

  • MySQLwith mutiple threads and processes

    I'm developing a telecom messaging platform in C, and I'm going to need multiple processes to be working with MySQL DB. How can I make two processes read/write to/from a Mysql DB and, if/when one of them goes down, get the other to seamlessly take over the work until the dead process gets back to work? I was thinking/googling some options and am stuck in place where I don't know which one to choose. What I think so far is that table lock is not the best option to go for, as it will stall the other process until the table is unlocked. The other option is to use row-level locks or manual locks, but I can't find the best way to do it.

    I'm trying to run mysqld inside chroot environment. Herez the situation. When I run mysqld as root, I can connect to my databases. But when I run mysql using init.d scripts, mysql gives me an error. $ mysql --user=root --password=password ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (111) So I guess, I need to change file permissions of some files. But which ones? Oh and in case you are wondering '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' is owned by 'mysql' user.   • Recomendation for Webshop with API

    I'm searching for a webshop. The problem with my search is, that the webshop-software of my choice needs to have a useabel API or some interface for external applications. E.g. i need to place orders by an external application or need to get product descriptions or warehouse stock from the external application. I somehow would like to have a webshop wehere the webinterface is just one way to interact with the whole system. There are some other requirments, which have to be fullfilled, but i guess they are kind of common: running on linux MySQL (we already have MySQL-replication and backup in place) i like open source but i'm willing to pay for it, if it's worth it I found some webshops on the net - but perhaps you can tell me, if theres any hope for a webshop with a good API before i go and test all of them, on the first look i didn't find any docs about any interface to external applications for any of my search results.   • Is it OK to create all primary partitions.?

    I have a 320GB hard disk. I only use either ubuntu or kubuntu (12.04 for now). I don't want to use windows or any other dual boot os. And i need only 3 partitions on my hard disk. One for the OS and remaining two for data storage. I don't want to create swap also. Now can i create all primary partitions on the hard disk. Are there any disadvantages in doing so. If all the partitions are primary i think i can easily resize partitions in future. On second thought i have the idea of using seperate partition for /home. Is it good practice . If i have to do this, i will create 4 partitions all primary. In any case i don't want to create more than 4 partitions . And i know the limit will be 4. So is it safe to create all 3 or 4 primary partitions. Pls suggest me, What are the good practices . (previously i used win-xp and win-7 on dual boot with 2 primary partitions and that bugged me somehow i don't remember. Since then i felt there should be only one primary partition in a hard disk.) EDIT 1 : Now i will use four partitions in the sequence - / , /home , /for-data , /swap . I have another question. Does a partition need continuous blocks on the disk. I mean if i want to resize partitions later, can i add space from sda3 to sda1. Is it possible and is it safe to do ?

  • Create Custom Speech Bubbles in Silverlight.

    I had a reader email me the following question: “How do you create Speech Bubbles in Silverlight/WPF without adding any extra .dlls? Right off the bat, I know at least two ways to create the speech bubbles that look just like the ones in comic books. Using the Callout Shapes included with Blend 4. Using the free 3rd party control named FreeBubbles (I used this before Blend 4). Unfortunately, we cannot use either of these as they will both add extra .dll’s to the project. So why wouldn’t you want to use one of those? I can think of a few reasons: You do not want to increase the size of your .XAP by including extra .dll’s. You do not have Expression Blend or the license to the use the .dll’s. You want a custom Speech Bubble that is not included in the four “Callout” Controls with Blend. Instead of using one of these methods, we will create a Speech Bubble in Blend 4 using Path element and a TextBlock. Before we get started, lets look at the Callout Shapes included with Blend 4. Using Blend 4 you can simply drag/drop these controls onto your Silverlight application and you are ready to go. We can create all of these Speech Bubbles and even some of the modern bubbles used in recent comic books. Lets get started. Start up Expression Blend 4 and select the Pen Tool. On the Art Board, start connecting the dots like I did below. You can add a color if you wish. …keep going …complete Let’s go ahead and add some text to the Speech Bubble. Drag a TextBlock from the Panel and put it directly inside the Speech Bubble. Go ahead and set the TextAlignment to Center for the TextBlock. and give it some text. At this point, you could go ahead and create a user control if you want to reuse the Speech Bubble you created. Select both the Path and the TextBlock by clicking then while holding down CTRL and then Right Click them. Select Make Into User Control. Give it a name and then Build your project. Lets create another one using the Ellipse for the older comic book style of Speech Bubbles. Drag an Ellipse to the Artboard and give it a color. Now, grab the Pen and drag a triangle like I did below. Simply drag it over a corner of the Ellipse. Select Combine then Unite and you will have a Path. At this point, you can go ahead and add a TextBlock like we did earlier. Lets go ahead and create a rounded rectangle one by adding a Rectangle to the Artboard. Go ahead and set the RadiuX and RadiusY to 25 to give it rounded edges. Let’s create another path and drag it right on top of our rounded rectangle like we did earlier. …looking good Select Combine then Unite and you will have a Path. At this point, you can go ahead and add a TextBlock like we did earlier. So let’s look at what we’ve created today using the path element and TextBlock.     In my game, I want to provide a user with drawing feature. By free hand drawing user create a polygon shape. So in my game implementation I have to create body for all found vertices and I have to generate image based on that polygon shape. So my problem is how to create image that match the user provided vertices. In cocos2d I listen that there is an implementation of something like Image Masking. But I don't understand how that thing I implement in andengnine. Please provide any guidance on how to create image same as user generated polygon shape.

    I've been using Linux+Plesk Virtual Server as a web server for a while, but I want to give a try on doing it manually, so my question is: I'll have a server which is: 80GB HDD, 4GB RAM, 1TB Bandwith, 1 Dedicated IP. And I use the following things on my Virtual nowadays: Mail server DNS server Apache + PHP 5.5 + MySQL FTP SSH My question is, without Plesk, can I achieve manually all those functionalities -know that I am not a terminal pro-, actually upgrading some of them to look like that with ubuntu server?: Mail server (with a nice webmail included) DNS server nginx + PHP 5.5 + MySQL + MongoDB FTP + SFTP SSH GIT Server Which ubuntu server should I chose? [EDIT] I almost forgot, I'd like to know how much Bandwith and CPU is using each of my webapps (one per domain usually), and the overall (not just from the webapps, but also mail, dns, etc...) ... usually Plesk does that for me, and I don't know how to measure that without it!

  • Cannot log-in in the install of phpmyadmin on Ubuntu

    I just installed phpmyadmin and i am trying to login in /phpmyadminpath/setup. I am greeted by an invite similar to an apache protected folder (log/password displayed in a browser pop-up, not an html popup) asking for login pass. I cannot login using system password(root) or mysql passsword(also root) I already have rails app using this mysql, and i checked the mysql password in the config files. I cannot run any mysql command in my console because of the following error : ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) What is wrong with phpmyadmin and mysql?
