  • Faking user interaction on CMS

    I'm working with a CMS and need to import data to it using typical html forms. The data itself is in csv files with one page per row. Such is the CMS that importing directly to db isn't possible due to the complexity of the design. It's pretty important that i "fake" usual user interaction because the CMS does a lot of background work that's crucial for the import. Basically, for each row in the csv file, I need to copy a csv column to a html textfield, or select a checkbox, or click a certain button. One major issue is mapping the data in the csv to actions in the CMS. So if one column contains the string 'foobar' is really means "set the firstName dropdown widget to 'foobar'". Is there a tool to automate this? I´ve been looking at AutoHotKey, Selendium, Web-Harvester and many other tools but I'm not convinced they are the correct tools. The main problem is being able to interact with the html pages in a easy way.

    Yes, it is possible to generate tests on boundary values for functions like "Sum" or "Divide". Pex is a good tool here. But more often we create tests on business behaviour. Let's consider example from classic Beck's tdd book: [Test] public void ShouldRoundOnCreation() { Money money = new Money(20.678); Assert.AreEqual(20.68,money.Amount); Assert.AreEqual(2068,money.Cents); } Can this test be generated? No :) 95 % of tests in my projects check business logic, and can not be generated. Pex (Especially in pair with Moles) can give 100% code coverage, but a high code coverage rate of a test suite does never indicate, that code is well tested - It only gives false confidence that everything is tested. And this is very dangerous. So, the question is - Is Pex really usefull tool?

  • In an Android test, how to check that a View is shown?

    Hello, I'm writing a UI test case (using ActivityUnitTestCase) and would like to check if at a given time a View subclass is visible to the user. I've found the View#isShown() method, which claims to do exactly this - checking the visibility field of this element and all its parents - but somehow it always returns "false" for all the elements. I'll be grateful for some help. If it makes it easier, I can paste some code. Also, I found ViewAsserts#assertOnScreen(View origin, View view) but it doesn't seem to do the right thing either - always returns true. Am I perhaps calling it wrong: assertOnScreen(viewImTesting.getRootView(), viewImTesting)? Thanks, Jan

    I have been using MSpec to write my unit tests and really prefer the BDD style, I think it's a lot more readable. I'm now using Silverlight which MSpec doesn't support so I'm having to use MSTest but would still like to maintain a BDD style so am trying to work out a way to do this. Just to explain what I'm trying to acheive, here's how I'd write an MSpec test [Subject(typeof(Calculator))] public class when_I_add_two_numbers : with_calculator { Establish context = () => this.Calculator = new Calculator(); Because I_add_2_and_4 = () => this.Calculator.Add(2).Add(4); It should_display_6 = () => this.Calculator.Result.ShouldEqual(6); } public class with_calculator { protected static Calculator; } So with MSTest I would try to write the test like this (although you can see it won't work because I've put in 2 TestInitialize attributes, but you get what I'm trying to do..)     Hi All, I have a listbox whose values are generated dynamically. When i use selenium IDE to select from this listbox it works fine. Here are example commands i use to select from the listbox. <tr> <td>select</td> <td>arr_dtm_mon_year</td> <td>label=Oct 10</td> </tr> <tr> <td>select</td> <td>arr_dtm_mon_year</td> <td>label=May 10</td> </tr> Now the problem i have is the values in the listbox is dynamically generated. In the above example i selected the option for "May 10". The values that are generated is a list of all previous six months and a list of all future six months. This basically means that if i rerun the test 6 months from now "May 10" will not be available from the list. Is it possible to select the value dynamically. For example can i first calculate the current month and select the value with that is current month + 1 (i.e. next month). And also how can i build the value to be selected after i have determined what the next month is. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have been working in ASP.NET MVC and I would like to test that the parts of code that I am putting into the view layer (and I know that I need to keep that as minimal as possible). I am looking for an equivalent in .NET to httpunit in Java or something similar.

    The connection string in my app.config for my C# project looks like Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename='|DataDirectory|\EIC.mdf';Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" I am writing unit tests for the project and have the set the test run configuration to copy the EIC.mdf, but I do am not able to reference the Deployed copy of EIC.mdf to be referenced by the app.config I created for the test project. If I set it to Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename='EIC.mdf';Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" It still does not find the mdf file.

    I am having trouble with an assertQuery(). In the html I have (verified by outputting the body) <input type="text" name="LASTNAME" id="LASTNAME" value="" maxlength="25" size="20" /> So I wrote a query for it to test to make sure this element exists and that the value is empty $this->assertQuery('input#LASTNAME[value=""]', 1); PhpUnit says the assertion fails Failed asserting node DENOTED BY input#LASTNAME[value=""] EXISTS Can you give me some insight into why this assertion fails and how to write it properly?     I use MS Visual Studio and I am new to C++, so I am just wondering if there is an faster more efficient way to do multiple test cases instead of keep clicking CTRL+F5 and re-opening the console many times. However as its a json call I cant seem to always get the test denoted by "it" to wait till the JSON call has finished before using its array. I tried using the ajaxStop function to no avail.   • How to specify a web service URL within a Drupal module's simpletest?

    I have a Drupal module that talks to a REST API on a separate server for user registration and authentication. The module runs on multiple sites which point to different servers which may run different versions of the REST API. Ideally, I'd like to be able to run each site against its own end-point, in case changes on the back end break things. Is there a way to dynamically specify a different end-point URL when running a test? Or do I have to edit the .test file for each site? I'm trying to keep the module's files as generic and flexible as possible. I guess I could have the .test file look for a .inc file that could override the URL, if needed for a particular site. Is there a better way though?

  • Is it safe to assert a functions return type?

    This question is related to this question. I have several models stored in a collection. I loop through the collection and validate each field. Based on the input, a field can either be successful, have an error or a warning. Is it safe to unit test each decorator and assert that the type of object returned is what you would expect based on the given input? I could perhaps see this being an issue for a language with function return types since my validation function can return one of 3 types.   • How to test the XML sent to a web service in Ruby/Rails

    I'm looking for the best way to write unit test for code that POSTs to an external web service. The body of the POST request is an XML document which describes the actions and data for the web service to perform. Now, I've wrapped the webservice in its own class (similar to ActiveResource), and I can't see any way to test the exact XML being generated by the class without breaking encapsulation by exposing some of the internal XML generation as public methods on the class. This seems to be a code smell - from the point-of-view of the users of the class, they should not know, nor care, how the class actually implements the web service call, be it with XML, JSON or carrier pigeons. For an example of the class: class Resource def new #initialize the class end def save! Http.post("http://webservice.com", self.to_xml) end private def to_xml # returns an XML representation of self end end I want to be able to test the XML generated to ensure it conforms to what the specs for the web service are expecting. So can I best do this, without making to_xml a public method?

    Hi folks, I'm trying to mock up a fake ASP.NET Controller. I don't have any concrete controllers, so I was hoping to just mock a Controller and it will work. This is what I currently have: _fakeRequestBase = MockRepository.GenerateMock<HttpRequestBase>(); _fakeRequestBase.Stub(x => x.HttpMethod).Return("GET"); _fakeContextBase = MockRepository.GenerateMock<HttpContextBase>(); _fakeContextBase.Stub(x => x.Request).Return(_fakeRequestBase); var controllerContext = new ControllerContext(_fakeContextBase, new RouteData(), MockRepository.GenerateMock<ControllerBase>()); _fakeController = MockRepository.GenerateMock<Controller>(); _fakeController.Stub(x => x.ControllerContext).Return(controllerContext); Everything works except the last line, which throws a runtime error and is asking me for some Rhino.Mocks source code or something (which I don't have). See how I'm trying to mock up an abstract Controller - is that allowed? Can someone help me?
