A similar question was already asked, but does not have a satisfying answer.
I want to change the CSS style for the map type selection buttons (which are actually DIVs that don't have a CSS class). The links in the referenced question show how to subclass controls, but the examples don't seem to work for GMapTypeControl. Tried the following
function CustomGMapTypeControl() {}
CustomGMapTypeControl.prototype = new GMapTypeControl()
CustomGMapTypeControl.prototype.setButtonStyle_ = function(button) {
button.style.backgroundColor = "red";
}
but the setButtonStyle_ function doesn't even get called.
Any solutions for this?

I have gone ahead and selected the Windows Classic theme in WIN7's "Window Color and Appearance" to turn off Aero.
I'm looking to replicate the "windows XP style" theme due to some screen recognition software that was built on an XP machine.
Is it possible to edit/import the "windows XP style" theme file and use it in WIN7?
I am mostly looking to get the colors/fonts similar. Windows/buttons would be good too.
So we are defining out functional requirements for a user content site and would like to enable:
1) 3rd party developers to develop applications that users can use on their profile
2) Enable users to export content to other sites meaning share their photos on the net.
So we were told we need to use APIs for this & it's merely changing data permissions. Is that the only thing we need? Is there a framekwrok we need to build out, or what is the process functioanlly to define out to make these happen? Platform is being built on MySQL and Cake php.

Hello. I'd like to know if it's possible to know if an external application has an window that is showing up on the taskbar. I have a program that sometimes shows up an error message and it appears on the taskbar. If I "close" the message, it will go invisible, but from what I've seen it still exists. So the only way for me to know if that window is visible and thus "clickable" is to check if it is being shown on the taskbar or not.
How can I do this?
Thanks
Hi,
I made a small product using Google APIs.

I have a VPS running Windows Web Server 2008 R2. I'm able to connect using Remote Desktop from my home PC (Windows 7), personal laptop (Windows 7), and work laptop (Windows XP).
However, I cannot connect from my work PC (Windows 7). I receive the error "The logon attempt failed" in the RDP client, and the server event log shows "An account failed to log on" with this explanation:

I can connect from the offending work PC if I start up Windows XP Mode and use the RDP client inside that.
The server is part of a domain but my account is local, so I'm logging in using a username of the form hostname\username. None of the clients are part of a domain. The server uses a self-signed certificate, and connecting from home I get a warning about that, but connecting from work I just get the logon error.
I have a Windows Server 2012R2 machine that I installed with Server Core, and then decided that I wanted to switch to GUI.
I'll make the long story short: I ran windows updates, and now the source files are older/out of sync with the operating system, and I need to update the source files.
Here are a couple of articles that outline how this is supposed to work:
http://blog.coretech.dk/kaj/why-i-cant-convert-my-windows-server-2012-r2-core-to-gui/
http://blogs.technet.com/b/joscon/archive/2012/11/14/how-to-update-local-source-media-to-add-roles-and-features.aspx
I have followed these instructions, but the updates are not successfully updating the source. I get errors like:
"An error occurred - Package_for_KB29671203 Error: 0x80073701, Error:
14081, The referenced assembly could not be found."
or
"add-windowspackage failed. error code = 0x80073701,
add-windowspackage: the referenced assembly could not be found"
I've extensively searched for help on those error codes related to Server 2012 and windows updates, but my google-fu is failing me.
I am using windows update packages found in c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
How can I get these updates to bring my source files up to current?
Thanks!
One of my coworkers just got a new laptop running Windows 7 Pro x64. We use a GPO to deploy the printers to every system, but for some reason it is not working on this system.
I have been breaking my head over this for the past 3 hours now without any result.
The strange thing is that gpresult /H seems to indicate that the GPO did run.
The hardware:
Laptop: Windows 7 Professional x64
Print server: Windows Server 2008 x64 R1
HP Color LaserJet 2605dn
HP LaserJet P2015
Driver packages on server: HP universal printer driver PCL5, both X86 as X64
Oddities and other info:
GPO working flawlessly on every other system, including my own Windows 7 Ultimate X64 laptop
gpresult /H shows the GPO being ran
Windows Firewall completely disabled on the new laptop
Below is the output for gpresult /H (in Dutch sadly, but I think you'll recognize it):
Beleidsregels

Printerverbindingen

Beleidsdefinities (ADMX-bestanden) opgehaald van de lokale computer.
Configuratiescherm/Printers
Beleid Instelling Dominerend groepsbeleidsobject

Like I said, I have been trying to figure this out for the past few hours or so without any result, so you are my last hope.
Any help is appreciated.

I'm currently attempting to connect one of our computers in the office to a client VPN. My development machine is running Windows 7, and can connect and see resources just fine. The problem computer is running Windows XP. They're both within the same network.
Using the same credentials at both computers, the VPN connection (using the built in Windows network connections) works just fine. So far, so good. An IP address is assigned, and comparing both machines shows they're still in the same subnet.
The problem is that the XP machine cannot see ANY of the computers in the client network. I tried a tracert to a target machine on the Windows 7 box, and the first item that comes up is the .0 address. Pinging it gives responses. Trying it on the Windows XP machine, however, comes up with just timeouts.
Trying to trace to www.google.com allows the address to resolve (probably part of the cached resolutions), but results in just timeouts.
I double-checked to make sure that the Windows firewall was not on, and trying to open the settings brings up a notification that the firewall service wasn't running, which leads me to believe that it's definitely not on.
From my best guess, I've managed to connect the XP machine to a black hole of some sort. There's obviously something strange going on, but I'm not sure where I should be looking.
I have a NAS device, it has 3 shares. On one computer I have access to all 3 of the shares. On another computer I keep getting this error when try and add a 2nd one.
The Network folder specified is currently mapped using a different user name and password [...]
That is the message I keep getting. What causes that?
EDIT:
Every share has it's own username and password.
EDIT: NET USE on the one running 3 from the same NAS device

I have got a weird problem. My windows 7 has two user accounts (both are administrator). I can log in to one account and do all sort of work. But whenever I try to log in to other account, it shows a blank screen and a messagebox pops up with "windows explorer has stopped working".
The options available are:
Close the program
Check online for a solution and close the program
The problem signature is as follows:

If I press alt+ctrl+del and then select start task manager, it also crashes. I can not run any program using runas command (from good profile) too. The task manager and runas programs all show same problem signature.
I read the similar question and followed all the steps, but no luck.
Later, I viewed the event log and found that, explorer.exe could not access a file. I checked the location but the file is there. The actual message is:
Windows cannot access the file C:\Users\testuser\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Caches\{AFBF9F1A-8EE8-4C77-AF34-C647E37CA0D9}.1.ver0x0000000000000020.db for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program Windows Explorer because of this error.
The question is, how can I resolve this issue? Should I just delete the file or replace it with another one to stop explorer.exe from crashing?
offtopic: What is the content of this file and why it is necessary?
Last week, an employee's Active Directory username was changed (or a new one was created for them). For the purposes of this example, let's assume these usernames:
Old: Domain\11111
New: Domain\22222
When this user now logs in using their new username, and attempts to browse to any one of a number of ASP.NET applications using only Windows Authentication (no Anonymous enabled), the system authenticates but our next layer of database-driven permissions prevents them from being authorized. We tracked it down to a mismatch of usernames between their logon account and who IIS thinks they are. Below are the outputs of several ASP.NET variables from apps running in a Windows 2008 IIS7.5 environment:
Request.ServerVariables["AUTH_TYPE"]: Negotiate
Request.ServerVariables["AUTH_USER"]: Domain\11111
Request.ServerVariables["LOGON_USER"]: Domain\22222
Request.ServerVariables["REMOTE_USER"]: Domain\11111
HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name: Domain\11111
System.Threading.Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name: Domain\11111
From the above, I can see that only the LOGON_USER server variable has the correct value, which is the account the user used to log on to their machine. However, we use the "AUTH_USER" variable for looking up the database permissions.
In a separate testing environment (completely different server: Windows 2003, IIS6), all of the above variables show "Domain\22222". So this seems to be a server-specific issue, like the credentials are somehow getting cached either on their machine or on the server (the former seems more plausible).
So the question is: how do I confirm whether it's the user's machine or the server that is botching the request? How should I go about fixing this?
I looked at the following two resources and will be giving the first one a try shortly:
http://www.interworks.com/blogs/jvalente/2010/02/02/removing-saved-credentials-passwords-windows-xp-windows-vista-or-windows-7

Thanks.
I'm having trouble setting up the trust relationship between a Windows Server 2003 and a Windows Server 2008 AD.
Domain a is Windows Server 2003 Forest functional level.
Domain b is a Windows Server 2008 Forest functional level.
I can set up the incoming side of the trust relationship on domain "a" so that it trusts domain "b".
Try as I might on domain "b" I can't set up the outgoing side of the trust relationship to domain "a".
The GUI interface gives an unhelpful 'The request is not supported'.
I'm not sure netdom is being more or less helpful as it refers me to FilterSIDs
netdom trust /add b /uo:b\admin /po:* /d:a /ud:a\admin /pd:* /oneside:trusting
To improve the security of this external trust, security identifier (SID)
filtering is enabled, however, if users have been migrated to the trusted
domain and their SID histories have been preserved, you may choose to turn off this
feature.
For more information about SID filtering and how to turn it off, see the help
for netdom trust /FilterSids or see Help and Support.
The request is not supported.
The command failed to complete succesfully.
I say 'less helpful' because Windows Server 2008 doesn't support the /FilterSIDs option.
How can we force creation of this trust?
Edit:
Just to clarify I've checked that the
[Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options]
"Network access: Allow anonymous SID/Name translation” is enabled on both sides of the trust as per http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserverDS/thread/cc61fc25-3569-4413-bbfd-92390eb31118
I'm trying to setup a VPN on my local network, but everyone who connects to me DOES have access to my laptop but not to the internet or other devices on the network.
How can I properly configure my VPN on windows to work correctly (giving internet + access to all devices on my network to the remote pc)?
Or is there software on windows which makes creating a VPN server easier? or maybe a VMWare image linux vpn server? I can't find any of those!
My requirement is that my friends don't have to install additional software, they have to be able to connect with default windows stuff.
My OS is Windows 8 Standart edition (not pro or enterprise) OEM.
Most of my friends have also windows 8, some windows 7.
Extra info:
My device is DMZ'ed (Demilitarized Zone, [disabled NAT on my device so it's accessible on the WAN])
I can access files, websites and services on other devices on my network, and all devices can access file shares, website and all other services on my device
When enabling VPN everything works except the client is unable to get internet access or access to any device on my network, client has only access to my device.
