  • Can managed and unmanaged C++/MFC be mixed in one dll?

    Previously we had software in MFC (VC6), VB6 and C# applications that needed to call the same engine written in C++ (and MFC). The engine required C++ for speed. At the time we decided to use COM as the interface because all three could use it with the least issues in marshalling, etc. Our MFC application is now deprecated and we have recently decided to dump VB6, so what we've got left is C#. We can just leave the COM engine as-is, but it would be nice to get away from COM registration, etc., and have a managed interface to work with. COM registration occasionally causes support issues if there is something wrong with the person's machine. Is it possible to have a dll with the existing unmanaged C++/MFC, and a .NET front end interface?

  • Have I found a security problem in an API or do I just not understand SSL?

    I'm working on building a set of Python bindings around an XML-based API provided by a vendor. The vendor requires that all transactions be conducted over SSL. Using a Linux box, I created a key file and a CSR for my application. Using their self-service web portal, I then generate a certificate using that CSR. Both the key file and the certificate are used when making the SSL request to the API. I'm now working on designing exception classes to make error messages more verbose (and, hopefully, more useful to developers using my bindings). Part of my testing has included altering the key file: transpose a couple characters here, replace 4 or 5 with random characters there, etc. To my surprise, altering the key file had no effect! As long as I didn't change the total length of it, the API didn't complain about a bad key file. The only way I was able to throw an error was by swapping in a completely different key from another application. At that point, the API complained about the Common Name not matching. Is this normal behavior or has the vendor not properly implemented SSL?

  • Why can't I have static public fields in my managed beans?

    I just started using the Netbeans 7.1 beta and it is calling out errors of a type which I have never seen before. Specifically: A managed bean with a public field should not declare any scope other than @Dependent. The fields it is complaining about are public static final. I can understand the restriction on non-static fields, but I can't think of a good reason this would not be allowed for a static field. Unfortunately I use a lot of them since I don't like having constants in my code. I note that even though I get the red dot in the margin in the editor, the maven-driven build still works and GlassFish still runs my application the way I would expect. So what is my denoument on this issue? Am I going to have to move my static fields elsewhere or is there another way of handling this?

    I have a web site with many virtual hosts and each registered with several domain names (ending in .org, .de), site1.mysite.de, site2.mysite.org Then I have different templating systems based on several programming languages (perl and php) in use on the web server. The Google Maps Api requires a unique Google Maps api key for each vhost. I want to have something like a web-server wide variable $goomapkey that I can call from inside my code. I'd prefer mod_perl2 Apache request handler, but the documentation is confusing (many API changes in the past ). Which Apache module could I use? Is there a built-in Apache module that does the same thing?

  • Can not enable Windows SmartScreen. Says: "this setting is managed by your system administrator"

    I can not enable my Windows SmartScreen on Windows 8.1 My PC is not joined to any domain. I'm not talking about SmartScreen feature available in IE but the feature that is available in File Explorer. Control Panel Action Center Change Windows SmartScreen settings I searched in group policy but couldn't find anything that is preventing me from enabling it. Update 1: My user is a member of administrators group. Other things work fine. When I try to change something that needs administrative permission, UAC window appears, but nothing here.

  • How can I resize a partition managed by LVM?

    I have a fresh CentOS install on my machine and I would like to make space on the drive available in order to install Arch Linux. Unfortunately, LVM is new to me and doesn't appear to work well with gParted (on my Ubuntu 9.0 LiveCD, anyways). It always seems to treat the LVM as some unknown filesystem. I tried to use the 'lvm' utility on the LiveCD in order to resize the partition down, but I ended up somehow corrupting my filesystem (hence the fresh CentOS install). I haven't been able to find any documentation on LVM that makes much sense to me as a *nix n00b. Is there anywhere I can find some helpful documentation on LVM as well as a clear step by step on how to successfully resize a partition? Thanks, Mike

    As Xapian's been dropped from the Ubuntu repositories, I'm attempting to build my own .deb from the instructions here: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.search.xapian.general/8855 http://beeznest.wordpress.com/2011/07/06/howto-build-your-own-binaries-of-php-xapian-bindings-for-debian/ I can only get things to progress beyond the first few seconds by leaving out 'rm debian/control', but if I do, it looks as if the Python and Ruby bindings are building and passing their versions of smoketest correctly. However, the PHP part of the build is failing with this error: /home/charlie/xapian-bindings-1.2.8/php/smoketest.php:38: include(xapian.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory FAIL: smoketest.php There's a xapian.php file in /home/charlie/xapian-bindings-1.2.8/php/php5/ but if I copy it to /home/charlie/xapian-bindings-1.2.8/php/ or change the path to it in smoketest.php, the build fails right near the start with: dpkg-source: error: aborting due to unexpected upstream changes Unfortunately I'm out of my comfort zone building from source. Anyone got any ideas? Edit post James' answer: Builds fine if I follow instructions exactly. I built it on a test VM initially, but that didn't build the PHP package as PHP itself wasn't installed. Obvious gotcha, but worth mentioning. Installing generated the following error: Setting up php5-xapian (1.2.8-1) ... Processing triggers for libapache2-mod-php5 ... dpkg (subprocess): unable to execute installed post-installation script (/var/lib/dpkg/info/libapache2-mod-php5.postinst): Permission denied ssion denied dpkg: error processing libapache2-mod-php5 (--install): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 Errors were encountered while processing: libapache2-mod-php5 It's only a script for restarting Apache. Stopping Apache before running sudo dpkg -i php5-xapian_*.deb prevents the error. Xapian now shows up in phpinfo(). Job done. Thanks.

Is there a way to specified a subdomain rather than port. Example: set rate limit to api.example.com not example.com? If there is no way to set rate limit by subdomain, what is the suggested rate limit access to port 80 without risking blocking a legitimate web user? One connection per second would be enough?

  • Has anyone managed to install Office Webapps on SharePoint 2010, on Windows 7 ?

    I've installed SharePoint 2010 as a development environment on my Windows 7 x64 environment (notes here) and would like to install Office Web Apps onto it also. However, when trying to install (following this link), I get an error saying that Web roles aren't installed. The error message in the log file is: Start C:\Windows\system32\ServerManagerCmd.exe -whatif -inputpath C:\Users\nickh\AppData\Local\Temp\PRE1.tmp.XML Error: Failed to start process for file: C:\Windows\system32\ServerManagerCmd.exe arguments: -whatif -inputpath C:\Users\nickh\AppData\Local\Temp\PRE1.tmp.XML ErrorCode: 2(0x2). Which is effectively saying that ServerManagerCmd is not found. It isn't on my machine as it is deprecated and replaced by Powershell functions, but is on Server 2008 R2. I've tried copying that over and it just fails to run. Is there a way to get Office WebApps installed on Win7 ? Is there a way to get a working version of ServerManagerCmd.exe on a Windows 7 x64 environment ? Many thanks

I can manage the certificates myself Open source middleware/drivers (not necessarily FOSS, just source available. Can flex on this, I just want to be able to audit the code. OpenSC-compatible on Linux would be great.) Is there any token that can do all of this? Or would I need multiple ones to accomplish this? Or do I need to look at smart cards and readers to get this? I have been researching this for a while and have had a heck of a time even getting accurate information about products.     I catched a trojan that uses explorer.exe to reproduce itself in case of deletion of its autostart entry or main exe file in Programs/x. It had already tried to contact a suspicious server over explorer.exe, blocked that via my firewall. I: Removed the autostart entries from the registry Looked through my services if there was anything suspicious Deleted the trojan from Programs/ Went through System Volume Information to find a 2 month old explorer.exe and replaced the possibly infected one. There are no suspicious processes running now anymore (no duplicate explorer.exe) and nothing wants to connect this trojan owners sever either. I checked my system with several anti-malware programs too. What the trojan did: Started a second explorer.exe Always when I deleted the main trojan exe file it was reproduced (by the second explorer.exe) Always when I deleted the autostart entry it was reproduced by the explorer.exe too. When I terminated the suspicious explorer.exe, which used only half as much memory as the less suspicious one from Windows, a strange thing that I know from the computers in my Informatics class happened: A window popped up in the top left of my explorer-less desktop, titled "Personal settings for ... are ..." that obviously copied some files. Then both explorer.exes started again and the trojan was everywhere again. What did the trojan actually do to get explorer to rescue it? Is my PC clean of this newish trojan now? What are the other locations I should check for the trojan? The trjoan doesn't seem very high-level, could it have changed other system files or is the autostart entry vital for it?
