  • Python + PyQt program freezes

    I wrote PyQt application. After it's start I close it (GUI), but timer don't stops and Python sometimes freezes. Only thing to unfreeze it - Ctrl-C, after which following message appears: Traceback (most recent call last): File "", line 262, in timerEvent KeyboardInterrupt timer don't stops again, and CPython works very slowly. How to avoid this problem?

  • accessing SQL syntax reference in mysql workbench

    Finding it a little bit tedious migrating to the new Mysql Workbench (5.2.22) even though it has many more features than the older GUI tools. Right now I'm confused why I can't find an SQL reference when I open the Doc Library. Is there a way to access this info within the workbench, I'd prefer not to have to open a browser to access reference info on the web.

  • Only show certain items in a mysql database using php and time()

    Is there a way to only show the items that are older than a certain date in a php mysql array? I'm using this query method and sorting by lastpost_cl: $query="SELECT * FROM properties ORDER BY lastpost_cl"; $result=mysql_query($query); $num = mysql_num_rows ($result); mysql_close(); and I was thinking the way of checking the time would be: if (time() <= strtotime($lastpost_cl)) { } How can I combine the two and only show lastpost_cl that are older that the current time?

I already added a few functions, such as changing login/password, executing, etc., But is it possible to browse files in the directory that the main file is in with a command/module, or will I have to make the module myself and use the import command?     I'm currently using statement-based replication. After upgrading to MySql 5.1, I'm considering using row-based replication. After reading the docs it seems that you can change the format of the master on the fly. Will the slave automatically adapt to whatever type of binary log it is sent? Do I have to make any changes to the slave or master to get ready for switching or can I simply modify the binlog_format variable on the master?

If a specific key does not exist in B, then do nothing and continue on. Which way is better? try: A["blah"] = B["blah"] except KeyError: pass or if "blah" in B: A["blah"] = B["blah"] "Do and ask for forgiveness" vs. "simplicity and explicitness". Which is better and why?

  • python: equivalent to Javascript "||" to override non-truthful value

    In Javascript I can do this: function A(x) { return x || 3; } This returns 3 if x is a "non-truthful" value like 0, null, false, and it returns x otherwise. This is useful for empty arguments, e.g. I can do A() and it will evaluate as 3. Does Python have an equivalent? I guess I could make one out of the ternary operator a if b else c but was wondering what people use for this.

    wow i thought i knew python untill tonight.. what is the correct way to do something like this.. heres my code a = ["one", "two", "three"] b = a #here i want a complete copy that when b is changed, has absolutely no effect on a b.append["four"] print a #a now has "four" in it.. so basically i want to know, instead of the b = a step, how would i correctly make a copy of a list or dictionary so that when b is changed a does not change along with it.. thanks guys

  • Python multithreading, How is it using multiple Cores?

    I am running a multithreaded application(Python2.7.3) in a Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7500 @ 2.93GHz. I thought it would be using only one core but using the "top" command I see that the python processes are constantly changing the core no. Enabling "SHOW THREADS" in the top command shows diffrent thread processes working on different cores. Can anyone please explain this? It is bothering me as I know from theory that multithreading is executed on a single core.

    I'm having a table, where one ID, can have multiple statuses | client_id | status_id | | 1 | 2 | | 1 | 3 | | 1 | 5 | | 2 | 2 | | 2 | 3 | | 2 | 6 | The problem is, to select only those client_id's if they have all the statuses i.e. 2,3,5 (status_id = 2 AND status_id = 3 AND status_id = 5) but mysql doesn't allow that directly.

    Since input and raw_input() stop the program from running anymore, I want to use a subprocess to run this program... while True: print raw_input() and get its output. This is what I have as my reading program: import subprocess process = subprocess.Popen('python subinput.py', stdout=subprocess.PIPE, stderr=subprocess.PIPE) while True: output=process.stdout.read(12) if output=='' and process.poll()!=None: break if output!='': sys.stdout.write(output) sys.stdout.flush() When I run this, the subprocess exits almost as fast as it started.   • When is porting data from MySQL to CouchDB NOT advisable? Seeking cautionary tales

    I've dabbled in CouchDB and I have pretty good MySQL experience. I've also created one production application that uses both. I like MySQL but I've run into scaling/concurrency issues with MySQL that CouchDB advertises itself as a general solution for. The problem is that I have MySQL based applications that are pretty huge, and I don't really know whether it would be a good idea or not to try to port them over to a CouchDB datastore. I don't want to put in a lot of time and effort only to find out that my application is really not a good fit for CouchDB. Is there any sort of informed consensus on when porting a MySQL based app to CouchDB is NOT advisable? Any cautionary tales? I think CouchDB is really cool and want to use it more. I'd also like to know ahead of time what specific types of data querying scenarios CouchDB is really not good for, or if CouchDB can really replace MySQL for all the applications I create going forward.

I'm specifically referring to (simple) if statements versus boolean evaluation. Consider the following: if words: self.words = words else: self.words = {} versus self.words = words or {} With such a simple situation, which is preferable, stylistically speaking? With more complicated situations one would choose the if statement for readability, right?
