  • Why does this basic class not work?

    - by kalaba2003
    I could not understand why my class does no t work. Returns nothing. Is there any mistake? class User { public $first_name; public $last_name; public function full_name() { if(isset($this->first_name) && isset($this->last_name)) { return $this->first_name . " " . $this->last_name; } else { return "No name!"; } } public function assign () { $this->first_name = "Name"; $this->last_name = "Surname"; } } $user = new User(); $user->assign(); $user->full_name(); ?>

  • C++: Could Polymorphic Copy Constructors work?

    - by 0xC0DEFACE
    Consider: class A { public: A( int val ) : m_ValA( val ) {} A( const A& rhs ) {} int m_ValA; }; class B : public A { public: B( int val4A, int val4B ) : A( val4A ), m_ValB( val4B ) {} B( const B& rhs ) : A( rhs ), m_ValB( rhs.m_ValB ) {} int m_ValB; }; int main() { A* b1 = new B( 1, 2 ); A* b2 = new A( *b1 ); // ERROR...but what if it could work? return 0; } Would C++ be broken if "new A( b1 )" was able to resolve to creating a new B copy and returning an A? Would this even be useful?

  • Why does this PHP program not work?

    - by oncode
    I'm new to PHP and was learning about PHP functions from w3schools. It said PHP allows a function call to be made when the function name is in a variable: This program worked <?php $v = "var_dump"; $v('foo'); ?> But this program did not work: <?php $v = "echo"; $v('foo'); ?> But if I do echo('foo'); it works. What am I doing wrong?

  • How do cookies work when browsing websites

    - by Phenom
    On websites where you have to enter a user name and password, I notice that I can browse the site with one browser and it will know who I am no matter where I go on the site. But if I open a different browser it doesn't know who I am in that browser unless I log on in that browser. After I log in to a website, does it store some kind of cookie in my browser, and every time I navigate to a different page on that site, it checks the cookie for my identity? What would happen if I logged in, and then before browsing to a different page on the site, deleted the cookie?

  • [Resolved] OWC does not work with IE8

    - by mactov
    Hi, I have a web page that is generated with Access 2003 and uses Office Web Components. It worked fine with IE6 and IE7 but does not work anymore with IE8. Here are more details. I create an MSODSC component and a WSH object to get my ConnectionString in the registry. Then the Dropdown Lists are fed by a request to the database. It works perfect with IE6 and IE7, works locally with IE8 but if the page is served by IIS to IE8, the drop down lists are empty. Can anyone help me ? Thanks Mactov It was just a security issue. I had put my site in the confidence zone (according to the error message). I transfered it into intranet zone and it works perfect.

  • My $query->fetch() doesn't work

    - by Tae
    Question edited following the comments. It still doesn't work. Hi there, I'm trying to learn how PDO works, but my script: $database = new PDO('mysql:host=localhost;dbname=***', '***', '***'); $query = $database->prepare("SELECT nombre, tecnica, tamanno, estado FROM obra WHERE anno = ?"); $query->execute(array('2009')); while ($item = $query->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)) { $item['nombre']; } Prints nothing. If I do: var_dump($query->fetch()) I get bool(false). After reading lots of examples I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks in advance.

  • Making successive "jQuery.load()"s in nested pages work

    - by terrestrial
    The main page ("parent.html") has a link that ajaxloads a page ("page1.html") into a div ("targetdiv") in the main page, like so: parent html: $("#targetdiv").html(loading).load('page1.html'); This works fine and "page1.html" is loaded into "targetdiv". The "page1.html" also has a link in it that is supposed to ajaxload another page ("page2.html") into "targetdiv" (onto itself), like so: page1.html: (in "targetdiv") $("#targetdiv").html(loading).load('page2.html'); This does not work; "html(loading)" comes up in "targetdiv" and stays there, "page2.html" is not loaded. If you're sure why this is so, tell me and I'll owe you a beer. All the best... (This page/site is not available on line.)

  • Vertical circular motion : time(x/y) versus velocity equation

    - by adeeti
    Hi, I wanted to simulate the following through animation : A ball starts with a certain velocity at the bottom most point of a vertical circular loop and keeps rolling in it until its velocity permits. For this, I wanted to find velocity/x/y vs. time equation. For e.g. if the ball had mass : 5Kg, radius of the circular loop = 10m, and initial velocity of the ball is 200 m/s, what will its velocity and (x,y) position be after 5 seconds? thanks.

  • Lucene boost: I need to make it work better

    - by zvikico
    I'm using Lucene to index components with names and types. Some components are more important, thus, get a bigger boost. However, I cannot get my boost to work properly. I sill get some components appear later (get worse score), even though they have a higher boost. Note that the indexing is done on one field only and I've set the boost to that field alone. I'm using Lucene in Java. I don't think it has anything to do with the field length. I've seen components with the same name (but different type) get the wrong score.

  • Eclipse 3.5 (Cocoa) slowing down irregularly after some time

    - by chris_l
    Hi, I'd like to hear, if anyone else encounters the same problems, and doesn't use Google's GWT (2.0) plugins: Sometimes, my Eclipse 3.5 (Cocoa) slows down after some time of usage (=30 minutes), so that things like maximizing an editor or moving the splitters becomes unbearably slow (reacting only after several seconds). After an Eclipse restart, everything's fine again. I'm not running low on memory (neither free RAM, nor memory available to Eclipse - Heap/Stack/PermGenSpace), and my system specs are not too bad. I know exactly one other person so far, who sees the same problem - but he also uses the GWT plugins. Since these issues appear irregularly, they're hard to track. Before creating an issue on the GWT bug tracker, I'd like to find out, if this also happens for somebody without Google's plugins. Thanks, Chris Edit: I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.2

  • ASP.NET 3.5: GetCallbackEventReference doesn't work synchronously

    - by deadbug
    I have an ASP.NET 3.5 WebForm that leverages the frameworks Page.ClientScript.GetCallbackEventReference() method and I'd like some of the calls to be synchronous. Now, the documentation says that the 5th parameter (see below) controls this. Specifically, when you pass 'false' it's supposed to be a non-asynchronous call. However, regardless if it's true or false, it still processes the call asynchronously. Page.ClientScript.GetCallbackEventReference(this, "arg", "ReceiveServerData", "context",false); Is there a work-around for this or perhaps I'm doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for the assistance!

  • Does .live() binding work for jQuery in IE7?

    - by Steve
    Hi everyone, I have a piece of javascript which is supposed to latch onto a form which gets introduced via XHR. It looks something like: $(document).ready(function() { $('#myform').live('submit', function() { $(foo).appendTo('#myform'); $(this).ajaxSubmit(function() { alert("HelloWorld"); }); return false; }); }); This happens to work in FF3, but not in IE7. Any idea what the problem is?

  • trying to work through a list in sections

    - by user1714887
    I have a list of lists sorted by the second value of the list (the groups). I now need to iterate through this to work on each "group" at a time. the data is [name, group, data1, data2, data3, data4]. I wasn't sure if I need a while or some other sort of loop, or maybe groupby but I've never used that. any help would be appreciated. for i in range (int(max_group)): x1 = [] x2 = [] x3 = [] x4 = [] if data[i][1] == i+1: x1.append(data[2]) x2.append(data[3]) x3.append(data[4]) x4.append(data[5]) print x1 print 'next' # these are just to test where we're at

  • javax.validation.ConstraintViolationException: validation failed for classes during update time for groups

    - by Tim
    Hello all! I have a Java / Spring MVC 3 application, using Hibernate and a MySQL database. In my controller, I have this source code: Set<ConstraintViolation<Person>> failures = validator.validate(p); if (failures.isEmpty()) { Project project = this.projectService.findProjectById(projectid); Person newPerson = this.personService.addPerson(p); Set<Person> persons = this.personService.getAllPersonsByProjectId(projectid); persons.add(newPerson); project.setPersons(persons); Set<ConstraintViolation<Project>> failures1 = validator.validate(project); if (!failures1.isEmpty()) { System.out.println("ERROR"); } else { System.out.println("NO ERROR"); } this.projectService.updateProject(project); return Collections.singletonMap("person", newPerson); } Project and Person are a many-to-many relation annotated with @manytomany and Project is the mapping owner. The new Person is added, but on the line with this.projectService.updateProject(project); I get an error. What it does it this in a Dao Hibernate implementation: public void updateProject(Project p) { SessionFactory sessionFactory = HibernateUtil.getSessionFactory(); Session sess = sessionFactory.getCurrentSession(); Transaction tx = sess.beginTransaction(); sess.update(p); tx.commit(); } It failed on the line tx.commit();. My check with if (!failures1.isEmpty()) { tell me that there are nor errors in my project. So what's wrong here? And why there is a validation of my project? I did not call a validation method... so why is there a org.hibernate.cfg.beanvalidation.BeanValidationEventListener.validate()? I hope, someone can help me how to fix this! Best Regards, Tim. • Moq Testing a private method .Many posts but still cannot make one example work

    - by devnet247
    Hi, I have seen many posts and questions about "Mocking a private method" but still cannot make it work and not found a real answer. Lets forget the code smell and you should not do it etc.... From what I understand I have done the following: 1) Created a class Library "MyMoqSamples" 2) Added a ref to Moq and NUnit 3) Edited the AssemblyInfo file and added [assembly: InternalsVisibleTo("DynamicProxyGenAssembly2")] [assembly: InternalsVisibleTo("MyMoqSamples")] 4) Now need to test a private method.Since it's a private method it's not part of an interface. 5) added the following code [TestFixture] public class Can_test_my_private_method { [Test] public void Should_be_able_to_test_my_private_method() { //TODO how do I test my DoSomthing method } } public class CustomerInfo { public string Name { get; set; } public string Surname { get; set; } } public interface ICustomerService { List<CustomerInfo> GetCustomers(); } public class CustomerService: ICustomerService { public List<CustomerInfo> GetCustomers() { return new List<CustomerInfo> {new CustomerInfo {Surname = "Bloggs", Name = "Jo"}}; } protected virtual void DoSomething() { } } Could you provide me an example on how you would test my private method? Thanks a lot

  • WPF TextBox.SelectAll () doesn't work

    - by Zoliq
    Hi! I have used the following template in my project: <DataTemplate x:Key="textBoxDataTemplate"> <TextBox Name="textBox" ToolTip="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}, Path=(Validation.Errors)[0].ErrorContent}" Tag="{Binding}" PreviewKeyDown="cellValueTextBoxKeyDown"> <TextBox.Text> <MultiBinding Converter="{StaticResource intToStringMultiConverter}"> <Binding Path="CellValue" Mode="TwoWay"> <Binding.ValidationRules> <y:MatrixCellValueRule MaxValue="200" /> </Binding.ValidationRules> </Binding> <Binding RelativeSource="{RelativeSource FindAncestor, AncestorType={x:Type y:MatrixGrid}}" Path="Tag" Mode="OneWay" /> </MultiBinding> </TextBox.Text> </TextBox> </DataTemplate> I used this template to create an editable matrix for the user. The user is able to navigate from cell to cell within the matrix and I would like to highlight the data in the selected textbox but it doesn't work. I called TextBox.Focus () and TextBox.SelectAll () to achieve the effect but nothing. The Focus () works but the text never gets highlighted. Any help is welcome and appreciated.

  • android.intent.action.SCREEN_ON doesn't work as a receiver intent filter

    - by Jim Blackler
    I'm trying to get a BroadcastReceiver invoked when the screen is turned on. In my AndroidManifest.xml I have specified : <receiver android:name="IntentReceiver"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.SCREEN_ON"></action> </intent-filter> </receiver> However it seems the receiver is never invoked (breakpoints don't fire, log statements ignored). I've swapped out SCREEN_ON for BOOT_COMPLETED for a test, and this does get invoked. This is in a 1.6 (SDK level 4) project. A Google Code Search revealed this, I downloaded the project and synced it, converted it to work with latest tools, but it too is not able to intercept that event. http://www.google.com/codesearch/p?hl=en#_8L9bayv7qE/trunk/phxandroid-intent-query/AndroidManifest.xml&q=android.intent.action.SCREEN_ON Is this perhaps no longer supported? Previously I have been able to intercept this event successfully with a call to Context.registerReceiver() like so registerReceiver(new BroadcastReceiver() { @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { // ... } }, new IntentFilter(Intent.ACTION_SCREEN_ON)); However this was performed by a long-living Service. Following sage advice from CommonsWare I have elected to try to remove the long-living Service and use different techniques. But I still need to detect the screen off and on events.

If I comment out the second set it works. {"The underlying provider failed on Open."} Inner: {"Communication with the underlying transaction manager has failed."} Inner: {"Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component."} Note that this is a sample app and I know it doesn't make sense to create 2 contexts in a row. However, the production code does have reason to create multiple contexts in the same TransactionScope, and this cannot be changed. Edit Here is a previous question of me trying to set up MS-DTC. It seems to be enabled on both the server and the client. I'm not sure if it is set up correctly. Also note that one of the reasons I am trying to do this, is that existing code within the TransactionScope uses ADO.NET and Linq 2 Sql... I would like those to use the same transaction also. (That probably sounds crazy, but I need to make it work if possible). http://stackoverflow.com/questions/794364/how-do-i-use-transactionscope-in-c Solution Windows Firewall was blocking the connections to MS-DTC. using(TransactionScope ts = new System.Transactions.TransactionScope()) { using (DatabaseEntityModel o = new DatabaseEntityModel()) { var v = (from s in o.Advertiser select s).First(); v.AcceptableLength = 1; o.SaveChanges(); } //-> By commenting out this section, it works using (DatabaseEntityModel o = new DatabaseEntityModel()) { //Exception on this next line var v = (from s1 in o.Advertiser select s1).First(); v.AcceptableLength = 1; o.SaveChanges(); } //-> ts.Complete(); }

  • UIActivityIndicatorView is not display at the right time

    - by Alexandre
    I'm making a form that allows the user to enter datas in my IOS application. This form allows the user to enter a lot of repetive datas. So, sometimes, the process takes time and I would like to display a UIActivityIndicatorView during this process. Unfortunalty the spinner appears only one second or less at the end of the process, not at the beginning as expected. There is some code : - (void) manageSpinner{ spinner = [[UIActivityIndicatorView alloc] initWithActivityIndicatorStyle:UIActivityIndicatorViewStyleWhiteLarge]; [spinner setCenter:CGPointMake(self.view.bounds.size.width/2.0, self.view.bounds.size.height/2.0)]; // I do this becau I'm in landscape mode UIImageView *imageView = [[UIImageView alloc]initWithFrame:self.tableView.bounds]; UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"dark_gradiant.jpg"]; [imageView setImage:image]; [imageView addSubview:spinner]; [self.tableView addSubview:imageView]; [spinner startAnimating]; } //On click save by the user - (IBAction)save:(id)sender{ //Collect information from the form myObject.name = nameTF.text; [...] if(informations OK[...]){ //Manage spinner [self manageSpinner]; //Add : this is the long process for (int i=0; i<nbRepeatChooseByUser; i++) { [myObject register]; } //Call the delegate that will dismiss the form [self.delegate theSaveButtonOnTheAddMyObjectTVCWasTapped:self]; } } The spinner is called before the adding method but it seems to be set up after the process. Thank you, Alexandre

  • Explicit casting doesn't work in default model binding

    - by Felix
    I am using ASP.NET MVC2 and Entity Framework. I am going to simplify the situation a little; hopefully it will make it clearer, not more confusing! I have a controller action to create address, and the country is a lookup table (in other words, there is a one-to-many relationship between Country and Address classes). Let's say for clarity that the field in the Address class is called Address.Land. And, for the purposes of the dropdown list, I am getting Country.CountryID and Country.Name. I am aware of Model vs. Input validation. So, if I call the dropdown field formLand - I can make it work. But if I call the field Land (that is, matching the variable in Address class) - I am getting the following error: "The parameter conversion from type 'System.String' to type 'App.Country' failed because no type converter can convert between these types." OK, this makes sense. A string (CountryID) comes from the form and the binder doesn't know how to convert it to Country type. So, I wrote the converter: namespace App { public partial class Country { public static explicit operator Country(string countryID) { AppEntities context = new AppEntities(); Country country = (Country) context.GetObjectByKey( new EntityKey("AppEntities.Countries", "CountryID", countryID)); return country; } } } FWIW, I tried both explicit and implicit. I tested it from the controller - Country c = (Country)"fr" - and it works fine. However, it never got invoked when the View is posted. I am getting the same "no type converter" error in the model. Any ideas how to hint to the model binder that there is a type converter? Thanks

  • Using Alarmmanager to start a service at specific time

    - by Javadid
    Hi friends, I have searched a lot of places but couldnt find a clean sequential explanation of how to start a service (or if thats not possible then an activity) at a specific time daily using the AlarmManager?? I want to register several such alarms and triggering them should result in a service to be started. I'll be having a small piece of code in the service which can then execute and i can finish the service for good.... Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(); Calendar cur_cal = Calendar.getInstance(); cur_cal.setTimeInMillis(System.currentTimeMillis()); Date date = new Date(cur_cal.get(Calendar.YEAR), cur_cal.get(Calendar.MONTH), cur_cal.get(Calendar.DATE), 16, 45); cal.setTime(date); Intent intent = new Intent(ProfileList.this, ActivateOnTime.class); intent.putExtra("profile_id", 2); PendingIntent pintent = PendingIntent.getService(ProfileList.this, 0, intent, 0); AlarmManager alarm = (AlarmManager)getSystemService(Context.ALARM_SERVICE); alarm.set(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, cal.getTimeInMillis(), pintent); System.out.println("The alarm set!!"); i tried this code to activate the alarm at 4.45... but its not firing the service... do i have to keep the process running?? M i doing anything wrong??? One more thing, my service gets perfectly executed in case i use the following code: long firstTime = SystemClock.elapsedRealtime(); alarm.setRepeating(AlarmManager.ELAPSED_REALTIME_WAKEUP, firstTime, 30*1000,pintent);

  • Making Ninject Interceptors work with async methods

    - by captncraig
    I am starting to work with ninject interceptors to wrap some of my async code with various behaviors and am having some trouble getting everything working. Here is an interceptor I am working with: public class MyInterceptor : IInterceptor { public async void Intercept(IInvocation invocation) { try { invocation.Proceed(); //check that method indeed returns Task await (Task) invocation.ReturnValue; RecordSuccess(); } catch (Exception) { RecordError(); invocation.ReturnValue = _defaultValue; throw; } } This appears to run properly in most normal cases. I am not sure if this will do what I expect. Although it appears to return control flow to the caller asynchronously, I am still a bit worried about the possibility that the proxy is unintentionally blocking a thread or something. That aside, I cannot get the exception handling working. For this test case: [Test] public void ExceptionThrown() { try { var interceptor = new MyInterceptor(DefaultValue); var invocation = new Mock<IInvocation>(); invocation.Setup(x => x.Proceed()).Throws<InvalidOperationException>(); interceptor.Intercept(invocation.Object); } catch (Exception e) { } } I can see in the interceptor that the catch block is hit, but the catch block in my test is never hit from the rethrow. I am more confused because there is no proxy or anything here, just pretty simple mocks and objects. I also tried something like Task.Run(() => interceptor.Intercept(invocation.Object)).Wait(); in my test, and still no change. The test passes happily, but the nUnit output does have the exception message. I imagine I am messing something up, and I don't quite understand what is going on as much as I think I do. Is there a better way to intercept an async method? What am I doing wrong with regards to exception handling?
