  • Can a variable bu used 2nd time after releasing it?

    - by Jakub
    Hello, I try to understand the memory management in ObjectiveC and still some things are a misery for me. I've got an instance variable: NSMutableArray *postResultsArray; when a button is clicked in the UI I create new array: self.postResultsArray = [NSMutableArray array]; then I add some objects to the array and when the whole operation is done I would like to release the array: [self.postResultsArray release]; (I assume that all the objects stoed in the array will be released along with the array). The problem appears when I click the button again and in the code I want to create the array again with: self.postResultsArray = [NSMutableArray array]; I get: [CFArray release]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x3d9e390 Can't I initialize the same instance variable for the second time? or maybe I should not release it? and if so, why? Thanks!

  • Raid on ICH9R chip set

    - by user500982
    Hi Im looking at buyign this MB: http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/ATOM/ICH9/X7SPE-HF-D525.cfm Im wondering though if the chipset will support the raid configuration I need. Im looking to configure the following arrays: raid array 1: 2 2TB Disks in Raid 0 raid array 2: 2 2TB Disks in Raid 0 raid array 3 (not actualy an array): 1 300GB Disk not in raid, to be used for OS and boot. So in total there would be 5 drives and the board supports 6. so im good when it comes to connections. However I have herd some chip sets only support one raid array (volume). so either all drives are individual, or are in the array. I must have 2 sperate raid arrays independent of each other, and a 5th drive not in any array. Anybody know if this setup will work? Thanks, -Stewart

  • What is the difference between type and type.__new__ in python?

    - by Jason Baker
    I was writing a metaclass and accidentally did it like this: class MetaCls(type): def __new__(cls, name, bases, dict): return type(name, bases, dict) ...instead of like this: class MetaCls(type): def __new__(cls, name, bases, dict): return type.__new__(cls, name, bases, dict) What exactly is the difference between these two metaclasses? And more specifically, what caused the first one to not work properly (some classes weren't called into by the metaclass)?

  • Median calculation in ActionScript 3

    - by Gabor Kako
    I have a number array and I'd like to calculate the median. When the array is odd, the calculation is OK, when it's even strange number comes up. private var numbers:String = "2,5,3,4,6,1"; private var array:Array = numbers.split(","); private function getMedian(array:Array):Number { var sortnums:Array = array.sort(Array.NUMERIC); var length:Number = sortnums.length; var mid1:Number; var mid2:Number; var median:Number; if(length % 2 == 0){ mid1 = length / 2; trace("mid1: "+mid1); mid2= ((length - 1) / 2)-0.5; trace("mid2: "+mid2); trace ("mid1: "+sortnums[mid1]+", mid2: "+sortnums[mid2]); median = (sortnums[mid1] + sortnums[mid2]) / 2; }else{ mid1 = (length / 2)-0.5 median = sortnums[mid1] } trace (median); return median; } The result is 21.5, but should be 3.5 mid1 and mid2 are a position in the array. Could somebody help?

  • Does CakePHP treat all INT fields as ID's for join tables?

    - by Jonnie
    I am trying to save a User, their Profile, and some tags and my join table that links the profile and the tags keeps getting messed up. The profile model is called Instructor, the tag model is called Subject. The Instructor has a phone number and a zip code and for some reason CakePHP thinks these are the fields it should use when creating entries in my join table. My Join table always comes out as: id | instructor_id | subject_id | 1 | 90210 | 1 | // thinks that the zip code is an instructor_id 2 | 1112223333 | 1 | // thinks that the phone number is an instructor_id 3 | 1 | 1 | // thinks that user_id is an instructor_id 4 | 1 | 1 | // the actual instructor_id, this one's correct 5 | 90210 | 2 | 6 | 1112223333 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 2 | My Models: class Instructor extends AppModel { var $name = 'Instructor'; var $belongsTo = array('User', 'State'); var $hasAndBelongsToMany = array( 'Subject' = array( 'className' = 'Subject', 'joinTable' = 'instructors_subjects', 'foreignKey' = 'instructor_id', 'associationForeignKey' = 'subject_id', 'unique' = true, 'conditions' = '', 'fields' = '', 'order' = '', 'limit' = '', 'offset' = '', 'finderQuery' = '', 'deleteQuery' = '', 'insertQuery' = '' ) ); } class Subject extends AppModel { var $name = 'Subject'; var $hasAndBelongsToMany = array( 'Instructor' = array( 'className' = 'Instructor', 'joinTable' = 'instructors_subjects', 'foreignKey' = 'subject_id', 'associationForeignKey' = 'instructor_id', 'unique' = true, 'conditions' = '', 'fields' = '', 'order' = '', 'limit' = '', 'offset' = '', 'finderQuery' = '', 'deleteQuery' = '', 'insertQuery' = '' ) ); } My Model Associations: User hasOne Instructor Instructor belongsTo User Instructor hasAndBelongsToMany Subject Subject hasAndBelongsToMany Instructor My form data looks like: Array ( [User] = Array ( [username] = MrInstructor [password] = cddb06c93c72f34eb9408610529a34645c29c55d [group_id] = 2 ) [Instructor] = Array ( [name] = Jimmy Bob [email] = [email protected] [phone] = 1112223333 [city] = Beverly Hills [zip_code] = 90210 [states] = 5 [website] = www.jimmybobbaseballschool.com [description] = Jimmy Bob is an instructor. [user_id] = 1 [id] = 1 ) [Subject] = Array ( [name] = hitting, pitching ) ) My function for processing the form looks like: function instructor_register() { $this-set('groups', $this-User-Group-find('list')); $this-set('states', $this-User-Instructor-State-find('list')); if (!empty($this-data)) { // Set the group to Instructor $this-data['User']['group_id'] = 2; // Save the user data $user = $this-User-save($this-data, true, array( 'username', 'password', 'group_id' )); // If the user was saved, save the instructor's info if (!empty($user)) { $this-data['Instructor']['user_id'] = $this-User-id; $instructor = $this-User-Instructor-save($this-data, true, array( 'user_id', 'name', 'email', 'phone', 'city', 'zip_code', 'state_id', 'website', 'description' )); // If the instructor was saved, save the rest if(!empty($instructor)) { $instructorId = $this-User-Instructor-id; $this-data['Instructor']['id'] = $instructorId; // Save each subject seperately $subjects = explode(",", $this-data['Subject']['name']); foreach ($subjects as $_subject) { // Get the correct subject format $_subject = strtolower(trim($_subject)); $this-User-Instructor-Subject-create($this-data); $this-User-Instructor-Subject-set(array( 'name' = $_subject )); $this-User-Instructor-Subject-save(); echo ''; print_r($this-data); echo ''; } } } } }

  • How to add values to a JSON object?

    - by Damiano
    Hello everybody, I have created an array with: var msg = new Array(); then, I have a function that add values to this array, this function is: function add(time, user, text){ var message = [time, user, text]; if (msg.length >= 50) msg.shift(); msg.push(message); } As you can see, if the array has 50 or more elements I remove the first with .shift(). Then I add an array as element. Ok, the code works perfectly, but now I have to loop the msg array to create a JSON obj. The JSON object should has this format: var obj = [ {'time' : time, 'user' : user, 'text' : text}, {'time' : time, 'user' : user, 'text' : text}, {'time' : time, 'user' : user, 'text' : text} ] I mean...i have to loop msg array and then store all the values inside the JSON object. I do not know how to "concatenate" the element of the array inside json obj. Could you help me? Thank you very much in advance!

  • Storing strings from a text file/scanner. Array or built-in?

    - by Flowdorio
    This code snippet is to to read a text file, turn the lines into objects through a different public (non changeable) class(externalClass). The external class does nothing but turn strings (lines from the .txt through nextLine) into objects, and is fully functional. The scanner(scanner3) is assigned to the text file. while (scanner3.hasNext()) { externalClass convertedlines = new externalClass(scanner3.nextLine()); I'm not new to programming, but as I'm new to java, I do not know if this requires me to create an array, or if the returned objects are sorted in some other way. i.e is the "importedlines" getting overwritten with each run of the loop(and I need to introduce an array into the loop), or are the objects stored in some way? The question may seem strange, but with the program I am making it would be harder (but definitely not impossible) if I used an array. Any help would be appreciated. As requested, externalClass: public class exernalClass { private String line; externalClass(String inLine){ line = inLine; } public String giveLine() { return line; } }

  • How do I tell the difference between a success that is preceded by a momentary failure and failure?

    - by user128807
    When I'm trying out a new technology, I often fail. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I continue to fail. So, in the first few moments after I try a new technology and experience failure, I cannot tell if I am on the path to success and have just experienced a momentary failure or if I am going to fail. I am wondering if anyone has a way to tell the difference between these two scenarios.
