• Toggle Android emulator network traffic from emulator invocation

  I'm working on scripts to manage large amounts of Android emulators and I need to disable all network traffic on some of them. Because I'm doing all of this on a headless server, I cannot use the F8 hotkey described on the emulater documentation. I'm currently routing the TCP traffic through a null proxy with by using emulator-arm ... -http-proxy 0.0.0.0:0 and this blocks the traffic that I want it to. I thought this was working well until I noticed some strange error messages while running my scripts. The console started outputting accept too many open files and checking the open files with lsof reveals numerous messages stating "can't identify protocol" ... emulator- 19463 username 19u sock 0,6 0t0 1976595845 can't identify protocol emulator- 19463 username 20u sock 0,6 0t0 1976595847 can't identify protocol ... The only "solution" I found to this is to kill all of the emulators and then wait until this limit is reached again, which is hardly a solution at all. Is there another way to do this while invoking the emulator? Am I incorrectly using the -htt-proxy switch to block the traffic? Other people found solutions to block traffic by manually doing this by using airplane mode, but this isn't feasible for me as I'm controlling emulators via scripts. I could send keyevents to the emulator with my script and turn the phone on in airplane mode, but I would prefer something more reliable than this.

• C# Path Ellipsis without Win32 API call revisited

  I was searching for a way to insert an ellipsis in a C# path, and found an answer here on stackoverflow: http://tinyurl.com/y6rmdfr Using the RTM versions of VS2010 and .Net 4.0, I was unable to get the suggested method to work. I searched the 'Net and found example code that uses the same method, but it failed in the same way. You can see the string I'm trying to shorten in my code below. After calling the MeasureText method, both the input string (OriginalName) and the output string (ellipsisedName) look like this: d:\abcd\efgh\ijkl\mnop\qrst\...\test.txt\0F\GHIJ\KLMN\OPQR\STIV\WXYZ\test.txt Two problems: 1) The resulting string is narfed (the path is truncated as expected, but is followed by what looks like a C-style terminating null and a chunk of the original path). 2) My original string is changed to be identical to the output string. • Java-Maven: How to add manually a library to the maven repository?

  I'm trying to generate a jasperReport, but I receive this: net.sf.jasperreports.engine.util.JRFontNotFoundException: Font 'Times New Roman' is not available to the JVM. See the Javadoc for more details. After searching on the net, I found that I need to add a jar to the classpath with the font. So, I create a jar file with the ttf files and now I want to add this as a dependency to my pom file. So: I installed the file : mvn install:install-file -Dfile=tf.jar -DgroupId=tf -DartifactId=tf -Dversion=1.0.0 -Dpackaging=jar and in my pom, I added these lines: <dependency> <groupId>tf</groupId> <artifactId>tf</artifactId> <version>1.0.0</version> </dependency> but I receive this: Dependency 'tf:tf:1.0.0' not found less I checked the repository folder and the jar file is there, in ... tf\tf\1.0.0\ What I'm doing wrong?

  I want to process all incoming requests through a single script (index.php in web-root). So, the following is what currently happens: http://localhost/foo/bar/baz Is routed by Apache (through .htaccess) to: http://localhost/index.php?url=foo/bar/baz This works well, however, in Firefox I am able to do this: http://localhost/foo\ - notice the backslash. And Apache, instead of doing: /index.php?url=foo\ Emits a generic error page saying: Object not found! The requested URL was not found on this server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again. If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster. • How to sort linq result by most similarity/equality

  I want to do a search for Music instruments which has its informations Name, Category and Origin as I asked in my post. But now I want to sort/group the result by similarity/equality to the keyword such as. • Getting a gestureoverlayview

  I have been using some nice tutorials on drawing graphics on my android. I wanted to also add in the cool gesture demo found here: http://developer.android.com/resources/articles/gestures.html That takes these lines of code: GestureOverlayView gestures = (GestureOverlayView) findViewById(R.id.gestures); gestures.addOnGesturePerformedListener(this); This is fine and dandy yet I realize in my demo i'm trying to build using code from "Playing with Graphics in Android". The demos make sense, everything makes sense but I found out by using: setContentView(new Panel(this)); as is required by the Playing With Graphics tutorials, then the findViewById seems to no longer be valid and returns null. At first I was about to post a stupider question as to why this is happening, a quick test of playing with the setContentView made me realize the cause of findViewById returning null, I just do not know how to remedy this issue. Whats the key I am missing here? I realize that the new Panel is doinking some reference up but I am not sure how to make the connection here. THe: R.id.gestures is defined right int he main.xml as: (just like the tutorial) Thanks, Shane p.s. im new here be gentle.

• Compression algorithm for IEEE-754 data

  Anyone have a recommendation on a good compression algorithm that works well with double precision floating point values? We have found that the binary representation of floating point values results in very poor compression rates with common compression programs (e.g. Zip, RAR, 7-Zip etc). The data we need to compress is a one dimensional array of 8-byte values sorted in monotonically increasing order. The values represent temperatures in Kelvin with a span typically under of 100 degrees. The number of values ranges from a few hundred to at most 64K. Clarifications All values in the array are distinct, though repetition does exist at the byte level due to the way floating point values are represented. A lossless algorithm is desired since this is scientific data. Conversion to a fixed point representation with sufficient precision (~5 decimals) might be acceptable provided there is a significant improvement in storage efficiency. • Code for decoding/encoding a modified base64 URL

  I want to base64 encode data to put it in a URL and then decode it within my HttpHandler. I have found that Base64 Encoding allows for a '/' character which will mess up my UriTemplate matching. Then I found that there is a concept of a "modified Base64 for URL" from wikipedia: A modified Base64 for URL variant exists, where no padding '=' will be used, and the '+' and '/' characters of standard Base64 are respectively replaced by '-' and '_', so that using URL encoders/decoders is no longer necessary and has no impact on the length of the encoded value, leaving the same encoded form intact for use in relational databases, web forms, and object identifiers in general. Using .NET I want to modify my current code from doing basic base64 encoding and decoding to using the "modified base64 for URL" method. Has anyone done this? To decode, I know it starts out with something like: string base64EncodedText = base64UrlEncodedText.Replace('-', '+').Replace('_', '/'); // Append '=' char(s) if necessary - how best to do this? // My normal base64 decoding now uses encodedText But, I need to potentially add one or two '=' chars to the end which looks a little more complex. • A declarative workflow does not start automatically after you install Windows SharePoint Services 3.

  That's the title of kb947284 actually. Recently I was involved in a Sharepoint project. I run into this problem where my workflow does not start automatically. If I run the workflow manually, it's just fine. I found kb947284. Apparently the cause of this problem is the installation of WSS 3 SP1. I did what it said in the Resolution section but it didn't work. The Resolution said to set the application pool account to use a different user account. What kind of different does it mean? What kind of user account will work? I changed the user account but both old and new account is in the same group of administrator for the server where SP is installed. Oh! I also found a copy of kb947284 and one comments stated there is already a hotfix (kb956057). I've read the issues that are fixed but could not find anywhere about this workflow problem. Could anyone please tell me how it's supposed to be done? Thanks in advance.

• 2-step user registration with Django

  I'm creating a website with Django and want a fairly common 2-step user registration. What I mean by this is that the user fills in the some basic user information + some application specific information (sort of like a coupon value). Upon submit, an email is sent to ensure email address is valid. This email should contain a link to click on to "finish" the registration. When the link is clicked, the user is marked as validated and they are directed to a new page to complete optional "user profile" type information. So, pretty basic stuff. I have done some research and found django-registration by James Bennett. I do know who James is and have seen him at PyCons and DjanoCons in the past. There is obviously very few people in the world that know Django better than James (so, I know the quality of the code/app is good). But, it almost seems like a bit of over kill. I've read through the docs and was a bit confused (maybe I'm just being a bit dense today). I believe that if I do use django-registration, I will need to have some custom forms, etc. Is there anything else out there I should evaluate? Or are there any good tutorials or videos on using django-registration? I've done a bit of googling, but haven't found anything. But, I suspect that it might be a case of a lot of very common words that don't really find what you are looking for (django user registration tutorial/example). Or is just a case where it would be just about as easy to build your own solution with Django forms, etc?   I'm following the demo code from article of phpsqlgeocode.html In the db, I inserted some Chinese addresses, which is utf8 encode. So my question is how to make sure it send out the original Chiness address?? how to prevent urlencode()??? I found take urlencode() away not change anything. • Deploy multiple instances of an EAR (representing versions) to Glassfish

  I basically want to be able to deploy multiple versions of the same EAR file to the same server (Glassfish instance?) , and have a unique path to each version separating them. From my reading on this it appears that multiple EARs deploy to the root of the web server namespace so that they can coexist if they do not have colliding context-root's of WAR's. In my case I'd rather have that instead of everything going under "/", I'd like to be able to brand a given EAR-file build to ALWAYS deploy under a given path like "/foo-20100319" or "/foo-CUSTOMER-20010101". This can easily be done with a single WAR file just by renaming it. I do not need or want them to disturb each other. It is my understanding that this remapping is outside the scope of the application.xml file, so I found that http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-7693/beayr?a=view says that I can specify web-uri and context-root, but I am not certain that what I wish to do, can be specified with these in Glassfish. How should I approach this? I have full control over the build process. (I have found http://stackoverflow.com/questions/877390/deploying-multiple-java-web-apps-to-glassfish-in-one-go but I am not certain how to apply this to what I need).

• WCF Service w/ SharePoint Error: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract...

  Full error message: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'PublicationServices.IPublicationService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element. I have a SharePoint site that I have already opened a project for in Visual Studio 2010. I also created a project that contains a WCF Service Application and added it to the same solution that contains the project for my SharePoint site. I have created a visual web part in my SharePoint project that I am trying to use to consume the WCF Service. I am doing so like this, from within the user control for my web part: PublicationServiceClient proxy = new PublicationServiceClient(); Just having this line alone in OnPreRender, Page_Load, etc. will generate the above error. I've read previous posts about having to have items in the config file of the WCF service also in the config file of the consuming application. I have done this, I copied this section the Web.config file in my WCF service and have placed it in the system.serviceModel tags of my SharePoint project's app.config file: In other words, this is in both of my config files. When I add this web part to the front page of my SharePoint site though, I get the above error every time. I should also note that I have created a console app that I was able to use with no problems to consume data from this very same WCF service. Any help would be appreciated!

• Debugging SIGABRT within NSManagedObjectContext -save:

  From inside NSManagedObjectContext -save: I am getting this message: Assertion failed: (_Unwind_SjLj_Resume() can't return), function _Unwind_SjLj_Resume, file /SourceCache/libunwind/libunwind-24.1/src/Unwind-sjlj.c, line 326. Program received signal: “SIGABRT”. warning: Unable to read symbols for /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/4.2.1 (8C148)/Symbols/Developer/usr/lib/libXcodeDebuggerSupport.dylib (file not found). This happens when I delete an Experiment object with to-many with Run which has to-many with Sample which has to-one with Data. Experiment also has to-many with Page which has to-many with Display which has to-many to Run. I mention this to point out the cyclical nature of the graph. Here is a simplified graph of model: I had been using Delete Rules but have now switched to "No Action" delete rules in combination with -prepareForDeletion methods for all of these classes. This change made no difference. In both cases, the error message is the same. Interestingly, when I relaunch the app, all the objects that were marked for deletion have been deleted. Also, if an Experiment has no Run objects, then deletion works without incidence. For that matter, deleting a single Run from an Experiment also works. I am hoping that someone has seen something like this and can offer advice on what would cause this. Or, if someone has advice on how to get libXcodeDebuggerSupport.dylib for iOS 4.2.1, that might also be helpful. Update: I followed advice found here and was able to get Xcode to find libXcodeDebuggerSupport.dylib for iOS 4.2.1. But this did not help at all in diagnosing problem - which persists.

• objc_exception_throw When Returning NSManagedObject

  I have a method dedicated to finding an NSManagedObject ('company') using a supplied NSString and, if it's not found, creating a new one and returning it. As far as I know it's fully inited and the method works perfectly. That is, until the line after the return statement, when the app crashes with an objc_exception_throw. I googled this and couldn't find what causes it, only how to use it in breakpoint debugging. • PHP preg_replace - Don't match with h1 tags

  Hi there. I am using preg_replace to add a link to keywords if they are found within a long HTML string. I don't want to add a link if the keyword is found within h1 tags or strong tags. The below regex nearly works and basically says (I think): If the keyword is not immediately wrapped by either a h1 tag or a strong tag then replace with the keyword that was matched, as a bolded link to google. $result = preg_replace('%(?!<h1>)(?!<strong>)\b(bobs widgets)\b(?!<\/strong>)(?!<\/h1>)%i','<a href="http://www.google.com"><strong>$1</strong></a>', $result, -1); (the reason I don't want to match if in strong tags is because I am recursing through a lot of keywords so don't want to link an already linked keyword on subsequent passes) the above works fine and won't match: <h1>bobs widgets</h1> It will however match the keyword in the following text, because the h1 tag isn't immediately either side of the keyword: <h1>Here are bobs widgets for sale</h1> I need to make the spaces either side optional and have tried adding \s* but that doesn't get me anywhere. I'd be very grateful for a push in the right direction here.

• package issue with ubuntu 10.10 and passenger requirements

  I'm trying to get Passenger working with Ubuntu 10.10 and I'm running into a problem. It seems that the passenger installer is not recognizing the virtual package. I'm getting this error: Code: passenger-install-apache2-module ... * OpenSSL support for Ruby... not found ... And then it says, run this: * To install OpenSSL support for Ruby: Please run apt-get install libopenssl-ruby as root. When I run the above command, it refers to the libruby package: sudo apt-get install libopenssl-ruby Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Note, selecting 'libruby' instead of 'libopenssl-ruby' libruby is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 43 not upgraded. When I look at the details for libruby, it says it provides libopenssl-ruby: Code: Provides: libbigdecimal-ruby, libcurses-ruby, libdbm-ruby, libdl-ruby, libdrb-ruby, liberb-ruby, libgdbm-ruby, libiconv-ruby, libopenssl-ruby, libpty-ruby, libracc-runtime-ruby, libreadline-ruby, librexml-ruby, libsdbm-ruby, libstrscan-ruby, libsyslog-ruby, libtest-unit-ruby, libwebrick-ruby, libxmlrpc-ruby, libyaml-ruby, libzlib-ruby And when I rerun the passenger installer, it gives the same error: Code: passenger-install-apache2-module ... * OpenSSL support for Ruby... not found ... • How do I securely authenticate the calling assembly of a WCF service method?

  The current situation is as follows: We have an production .net 3.5 WCF service, used by several applications throughout the organization, over wsHttpBinding or netTcpBinding. User authentication is being done on the Transport level, using Windows integrated security. This service has a method Foo(string parameter), which can only be called by members of given AD groups. The string parameter is obligatory. A new client application has come into play (.net 3.5, C# console app), which eliminates the necessity of the string parameter. However, only calls from this particular application should be allowed to omit the string parameter. The identity of the caller of the client application should still be known by the server because the AD group limitation still applies (ruling out impersonation on the client side). I found a way to pass on the "evidence" of the calling (strong-named) assembly in the message headers, but this method is clearly not secure because the "evidence" can easily be spoofed. Also, CAS (code access security) seems like a possible solution, but I can't seem to figure out how to make use of CAS in this particular scenario. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to solve this issue? Edit: I found another thread on this subject; apparently the conclusion there is that it is simply impossible to implement in a secure fashion.

• Replace text in word textbox objects using VSTO and C#

  Hi, I have to find/replace text from a word document. It works fine for plain text spread through the document, however when the text is in a textbox, the standard find/replace approach doesn't reach it. I found a vba solution, however since I am working in C#, I would like to find a solution in C#. The word document is in 2007 format and my visual studio is 2010. I am using .Net Framework 3.5, but if required, I can consider moving to 4.0. • Getting a binary file from resource in C#

  Hello, I am having a bit of a problem, I am trying to get a PDF as a resource in my application. At this point I have a fillable PDF that I have been able to store as a file next to the binary, but now I am trying to embed the PDF as a resource in the binary. byte[] buffer; try { s = typeof(BattleTracker).Assembly.GetManifestResourceStream("libReports.Resources.DAForm1594.pdf"); buffer = new byte[s.Length]; int read = 0; do { read = s.Read(buffer, read, 32768); } while (read > 0); } catch (Exception e) { throw new Exception("Error: could not import report:", e); } // read existing PDF document PdfReader r = new PdfReader( // optimize memory usage buffer, null ); Every time I run the code I get an error saying "Rebuild trailer not found. Original Error: PDF startxref not found" When I was just opening the file via a path to the static file in my directory it worked fine. I have tried using different encodings UTF-8, UTF-32, UTF-7, ASCII, etc etc.... As a side note I had the same problem with getting a Powerpoint file as a resource, I was finally able to fix that problem by converting the Powerpoint to xml and using that. I have considered doing the same for the PDF but I am referencing elements by field name which does not seem to work with XML PDFs. Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks in advance!

• GHC 6.12 and MacPorts

  I recently installed GHC 6.12 and the Haskell Platform 2010.1.0.1 on my Intel MacBook running OS X 10.5.8, and initially, everything worked fine. However, I discovered that if I use cabal install to install a package which depends on a MacPorts library (e.g., cabal install --extra-lib-dirs=/opt/local/lib --extra-include-dirs=/opt/local/include gd), things work fine in GHCi, but if I try to compile, I get the error Linking test ... Undefined symbols: "_iconv_close", referenced from: _hs_iconv_close in libHSbase-4.2.0.0.a(iconv.o) "_iconv", referenced from: _hs_iconv in libHSbase-4.2.0.0.a(iconv.o) "_iconv_open", referenced from: _hs_iconv_open in libHSbase-4.2.0.0.a(iconv.o) ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status After some Googling, I found a long Haskell-cafe thread discussing this problem. The upshot seems to be that MacPorts installs an updated version of libiconv, and the binary interface is slightly different from the version included with the system. Consequently, if you try to link with any MacPorts library, the MacPorts libiconv gets linked in too; and since the base library was built to link against a different version of libiconv, things break. I've tried setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH and DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH and adding more flags to try to get it to look at /usr/lib again (e.g. cabal install --extra-lib-dirs=/opt/local/lib --extra-include-dirs=/opt/local/include --extra-lib-dirs=/usr/lib --extra-include-dirs=/usr/include gd), but neither worked. Uninstalling the MacPorts libiconv isn't really an option, since I have a bunch of ports installed which depend on it---including some ports I want Haskell to link to, like gd2. From what I've seen online, the upshot really seems to be "you're boned": you cannot link against any MacPorts library while compiling with GHC, and there doesn't seem to be a solution. However, that thread was from the end of 2009, so I figure there's a chance that someone has a solution, workaround, ridiculous hack… anything, really. So: does anybody know how to get GHC 6.12 to link against the system libiconv at the same time as it links to libraries from MacPorts? Or, failing that, a way to make linking not break in some other clever way?

• User avatar cropping/resizing with paperclip and jquery in rails

  Hello fellow stackoverflow users. I am building my first Ruby on Rails app which is going to be my own little community. I have made the User model with several fields and information. But now i am thinking of adding avatar support for the users. And i've been researching and found that my best option would be using Paperclip. But then i've encountered a little dilemma. I want my users to be able to resie/crop their avatar image after they have chosen a image. I have googled alot and since i am using jQuery i found that imgAreaSelect would be best in my opinion. And i think MiniMagick looks best. So to my question. How can i best intergrate Paperclip and imgAreaSelect? I am new to Ruby and Rails so i don't know how i can resize the image. Do you folks know how to intergrate the to or maybe some other options that fits my needs best? • Crystal Reports .Net Guidance

  We have been using .Net and Visual Studio for the last six years, and early on developed a number of web based reporting applications using the .Net version of Crystal Reports that was bundled with Visual Studio. My overall opinion of that product has been, to say the least, rather unimpressed. It seemed to be incredibly difficult and convoluted to use, we had to make security changes, install various extra software, and so on. Now, we are moving to VS2008 and version 3.5 of the .Net framework, and the time has come to redevelop some of these old applications. The developers who used (and somehow mastered) Crystal .Net have long gone, and I am facing a decision - do we stick with Crystal Reports or move to something else. We also have the "full" version of Crystal Reports XI at our disposal. The way we use the product is to product pdf versions of data extracted from various databases. While some apps use the inbuilt Crystal Reports viewer as well, this seems to be redundant now with the flexibility of grid views - but there is still the need to produce a pdf version of the data in teh grid for printing, or in Excel format to download. What is the concensus? Is Crystal Reports .Net worth persisting with, or should we work out how to use version XI? Alternatively, is there a simple and low cost way to generate pdf reports without using Crystal? What good sources of "how to" information have others found and recommend? Are there suitable books, designed for VS2008 / .Net 3.5 development that you have used and found of benefit? Thanks in advance.
