Without deciding the value of this request, I'd like to get my Fedora laptop to answer the question easily. rpm -qa Gives me a list of packages, but no license data. My next step is to take that output and write a script to query each package's license. Anyone got an easier idea?

  • Is there any reason for an object pool to not be treated as a singleton?

    I don't necessarily mean implemented using the singleton pattern, but rather, only having and using one instance of a pool. I don't like the idea of having just one pool (or one per pooled type). However, I can't really come up with any concrete situations where there's an advantage to multiple pools for mutable types, at least not any where a single pool can function just as well. What advantages are there to having multiple pools over a singleton pool?

    I am way too indecisive. I have an idea for a (admittedly craptastic) GUI program, so I start writing it in C# .NET WinForms. Then like halfway through I'm like, damn I should have written this in Qt. So I start writing it in Qt and remember why I hate C++ STL iterators so much. So in my head I go LINQ C++ STL So I'm like, maybe I'll do it in WPF, I like markup to make UIs hey this is kinda like web development (read: ez pz) BUT ITS LIKE WHY GOD WHY CANT I JUST PICK ONE AND COMMIT

  • Turn Function or Stored Procedure Result into "live" Result for LINQ

    Is it possible to turn result sets obtained in LINQ through a stored procedure or function call into a "live" set of objects of which I can retrieve Foreign Key related objects? If, for example, my stored procedure returns a set of rows (= LINQ objects) of type "Contact", then I can't seem to obtain Contact.BillingAddress (which is related by Foreign Key). Any idea how to make this work?

  • Is there a Rails authentication library which separates users from login methods?

    In my mental model of authentication, a user should be distinct from the way they log in. So for example, a User could have an associated EmailLogin (with an email/password), or they could have many (or none). Similarly they could have 0..* associated OpenIDLogin credentials. Are there any existing authentication libraries for Rails which use this method? Alternatively, is this a really terrible idea?

I want to read all the bits of hex data of a MP3 file and have my speakers play it. :) I have no idea where to start since I don't yet know how data is actually stored into a MP3 file.     Hi! I want to use the systems available windows media player visualizers in my app. Apperently visualizers expose an IWMPEffects interface to the world. My question is how do I enumerate and create instances to the available visualizers on my system? Probably it's just a process of getting the cslid of the visualizers and then create the instance with CoCreateInstance. However I have no idea how to get these clsid's! Thanks!
