  • Which Large File System Format to use for USB Flash drive compatible with Ubuntu/Mac/Windows?

    I've had this problem for a long time and can't find a solution. I switch between the 3 OSes all the time and use a 1TB USB Drive to do so. I can't seem to find a format that is compatible across all systems that handles large files (at least 8-9 GB). Does anyone have a solution for this? Recently I've tried exFat but that messes up the filesystem when trying to read on windows after adding files from Ubuntu (using the fuse driver). The OSes currently I'm using are Windows Vista/7, Mac OS X (10.6.5) and Ubuntu 10.10

However, the player can fly around freely, inside and outside of systems, in real time. How do I interpolate and determine things like the background color now, depending on camera position? E.g. if you are halfway between a green and a red system you should see a background halfway between red and green, or if you are inside a lilac system near the center and at the border of a green system you should get a mostly lilac background etc.

  • Is there an easy way to configure an Ubuntu system to function as a proxy/file server from behind an NAT?

    Sorry for the long question, but the situation/desire is quite complex. Here is my setup: I have a laptop which I carry around everywhere and I have a desktop sitting at home, connected to the internet through a router using NAT. My objective is to create a connection from my laptop to my desktop that can allow me to (in order of priority): Use the desktop as a proxy server Access files on the desktop remotely Control said desktop from the laptop using VNC or similar. Now here is the scene. I have already looked up and tried several ways to achieve the above goals. Teamviewer - I used it and didn't like it. This is not an option. SSH - This seems ideal, I have figured a way to use this for both proxy and file sharing. However, I am currently unable to connect it due to the NAT. I have a separate thread trying to get that to work here. VPN - I've figured out how to use this method for proxy, but not file sharing. However this faces the same problem as the above: I can't get it to connect through the NAT. Does anyone have any other solutions for what I want? Otherwise, if there are solutions to connecting through the NAT, please tell me (in the other thread). Thanks

  • Cross Theaded Calls - Many controls Heavy GUI Application after .net 1.1 2.0 upgrade- best way ??

    I have recently upgraded a .net1.1 solution to .net2.0. AS this is a very heavy GUI appilcation with loads of controls and many multithreaded operations that update the GUI. While these operations worked seamlessly in .net1.1 it is throwing up Cross Threaded Illegal operations after the upgrade. Considering the fact that tehre are numerous grids, buttons and status labels that need to be updated via these multi threaded operations, I decided to code for checking the InvokeRequired solution, however doing that for every control would probably not be the best way to go about it. I was wondering if you could suggest a better way of how I can go about it or propose any OOPS based class structure that I could code around to make the code look better. I opened Synaptic Package manager and installed the following: nvidia-common nvidia-settings-update nvidia-common nvidia-current nvidia-current-updates The following were installed before(when unity launcher looked normal): jockey-common psensor nvidia-settings jockey-gtk xserver-xorg-video-nouveau My intention was to use the right Nvidia drivers. But apparently it didn't rightly install the drivers and now I have Unity 2D running!

  • How can Agile methodologies be adapted to High Volume processing system development?

    I am developing high volume processing systems. Like mathematical models that calculate various parameters based on millions of records, calculated derived fields over milions of records, process huge files having transactions etc... I am well aware of unit testing methodologies and if my code is in C# I have no problem in unit testing it. Problem is I often have code in T-SQL, C# code that is a SQL stored assembly, and SSIS workflow with a good amount of logic (and outcomes etc) or some SAS process. What is the approach YOu use when developing such systems. I usually develop several tests as Stored procedures in a designed schema(TEST) and then automatically run them overnight and check out the results. But this is only for T-SQL. And Continous integration IS hard. But the problem is with testing SSIS packages. How do You test it? What is Your preferred approach for stubbing data into tables (especially if You need a lot data initialization). I have some approach derived over the years but maybe I am just not reading enough articles. So Banking, Telecom, Risk developers out there. How do You test your mission critical apps that process milions of records at end day, month end etc? What frameworks do You use? How do You validate that Your ssis package is Correct (as You develop it)/ How do You achieve continous integration in such an environment (Personally I never got there)? I hope this is not to open-ended question. How do You test Your map-reduce jobs for example (i do not use hadoop but this is quite similar). luke Hope that this is not too open ended

Now here is the question, WindowsA LinuxB, (Program on Windows) Run Windows Program On Linux, using a windows resources. How to make it work? BTW, I know it can because years ago, I read a white paper on it, but never actually tested it out.

  • Should components have sub-components in a component-based system like Artemis?

    I am designing a game using Artemis, although this is more of philosophical question about component-based design in general. Let's say I have non-primitive data which applies to a given component (a Component "animal" may have qualities such as "teeth" or "diet"). There are three ways to approach this in data-driven design, as I see it: 1) Generate classes for these qualities using "traditional" OOP. I imagine this has negative implications for performance, as systems then must be made aware of these qualities in order to process them. It also seems counter to the overall philosophy of data-driven design. 2) Include these qualities as sub-components. This seems off, in that we are now confusing the role of components with that of entities. Moreover out of the box Artemis isn't capable of mapping these subcomponents onto their parent components. 3) Add "teeth", "diet", etc. as components to the overall entity alongside "animal". While this feels odd hierarchically, it may simply be a peculiarity of component-based systems. I suspect 3 is the correct way to think about things, but I was curious about other ideas.

  • What is an effective way to convert a shared memory-mapped system to another data access model?

    I have a code base that is designed around shared memory. Each process that needs to access the memory maps it into its own address space. The data structures in the shared memory are directly accessed, that is, there is no API. For example: Assume the following: typedef struct { int x; int y; struct { int a; int b; } z; } myStruct; myStruct s; Then a process might access this structure as: myStruct *s = mapGlobalMem(); And use it as: int tmpX = s->x; The majority of the information in the global structure is configuration information that is set once and read many times. I would like to store this information in a database and develop an API to access the database. The problem is, these references are sprinkled throughout the code. I need a way to parse the code and identify global structure references that will need to be refactored. I've looked into using ANTLR to create a parser that will identify references to a small set of structures and enter them into a custom symbol table. I could then use this symbol table to identify which source files need to be refactored. It looks like a promising approach. What other approaches are there? Of course, I'm looking for a programmatic approach. There are far too many source files to examine each one visually. This is all ordinary ANSI C. Nothing else.

    I did a test and found the overhead of a function call to System.nanoTime() is at least 500 ns on my machine. Seemed that it is very hard to have a high performance java profiler. For enterprise software, suppose a function takes about 350 seconds and has 12,500,000,000 times of method calls. Therefore, the number of calls to System.nanoTime() is: 12,500,000,000 * 2 = 25,000,000,000 (one for start timestamp, one for end timestamp) And the overhead of System.nanoTime in total is: 500 ns * 25,000,000,000 = 500 * 25000 s = 12500000s. Note: all data from real case. Any better way to acquire the timestamp?

    I got this when I tried to install the source code on Windows Server 2008 R2, and this was an issue with EntLib 4.0 as well. The solution is the same now as it was then, but since I had a new OS install I didn't recreate the fix.   • 'Step Into' is suddenly not working in Visual Studio

    All of a sudden, I have run into an issue where I cannot step into any code through debugging in Visual Studio. The step over works fine, but it refuses to step into (F11) any of my code. This was working before, now all of a sudden it does not. I've tried some things below, but I still had no success: Delete all bin files in every project in my solution, clean solution, re-build solution. Build projects in solution indivdualy Restart machine It an ASP.NET C# application consuming a WCF sevice locally. It is in debug mode. I have a breakpoint set on the page consuming the service. The breakpoint hits, but it will not step into the service code. The ASP.NET site and the service code is all in the same solution. This all of a sudden does not work, it did work before. How can I fix this problem? Adding a breakpoint to the service project I get a warning: Breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document. I deleted all the bin folders for all the projects and re-built them one by one. They all succeeded, but still I am getting the symbols won't load on any breakpoint I put into any project in the solution other than the ASP.NET project where the breakpoint works. I was able to debug step into all the projects before, this is an all of a sudden thing. Information from the output window..   • Weird system freeze. Nothing works keyboard/mouse/reset button - Ubuntu 12.04 64bits [closed]

    I have fresh PC: i5 3570K with Intel 4000 onboard ASrock Z77 Extreme4-m 8GG RAM - Adata 1333Mhz... 1TB Seagate drive 7200rpm I've also fresh systems - Ubuntu/Win7 and today there was something strange. Ubuntu twice just freezed. Everything stopped, even keyboard and mouse wasn't responding. Even RESET button didn't work. Right now memtest is running, but I'd like to know, where else can i look for cause. Can it be software fault if even reset isn't working? Only long reset pressing rebooted PC... I'm a bit confused. Or should I test components - CPU, motherboard, disk. Which logs in Ubuntu should I check to diagnose cause? EHm I had few adventures with this PC already. Shipped motherboard was broken (ASrock Z68 Extreme3) and had old bios, so I had to contact with reseller, replace it and at the end decided on Z77, but everything took 3 weeks, so I have bad feelings... Edit: Both freezes were during editing something in gedit (it can be coincidence) and after few updates today - when memtest is end I'll check what was updated

    When I open a youtube video with firefox I could not find any video file inside ~/.mozilla/firefox/<some_string>.default/Cache/. I also tried with google-chrome like, ps ax | grep flash ls -l /proc/[*PID*]/fd | grep Flash But again /proc/[*PID*]/fd does not have any video like file. ls -l /proc/[*PID*]/fd have some results like lrwx------ 1 root root 64 Nov 9 12:18 22 -> /run/shm/.com.google.Chrome.eOsHNu (deleted) lrwx------ 1 root root 64 Nov 9 12:18 23 -> /run/shm/.com.google.Chrome.p8h6BL (deleted) Result of ls -l /proc/[*PID*]/fd | grep Flash for some videos from other site is like lrwx------ 1 root root 64 Nov 9 12:35 26 -> /home/username/.config/google-chrome/Default/Pepper Data/Shockwave Flash/.com.google.Chrome.QMzxP8 (deleted) But could not be copied. Then what are the places where firefox or google-chrome stores the streaming videos? And is it possible to recover(copy) a video from there to watch them offline? P.S I have other ways(downloaders) to have streaming videos, but my question is very specific.

  • How to tell when my batch of EAP calls are completed?

    This is following my question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2607038/c-how-to-consume-web-service-adheres-to-the-event-based-asynchronous-pattern My program is calling the DoStuffAsync() x many times in a batch, hence the callback will get invoked the same number of times upon OnComplete(). Is there a way to find out when my batch is finished such that I can generate a report on the success/failed results? All I can think of is to have a static count variable for x and deduct 1 every time OnComplete() is called, but its kind of silly and error prone I'm afraid. TIA.

    Today I run this select 'exec sp_refreshview N''['+table_schema+'].['+table_name+']''' from information_schema.tables where table_type = 'view' This generates a lot of: exec sp_refreshview N'[SCHEMA].[TABLE]'. I then copy the result to the query editor window and run all those execs. How do I do this all at once? I would like to have a stored procedure called something like dev.RefreshAllViews which I can execute to do this...

  • How to debug/reformat C printf calls with lots of arguments in vim?

    I have a function call in a program that I'm maintaining has 28 arguments for a printf call. It's printing a lot of data in a CSV file. I have problems following finding where what goes and I have some mismatches in the parameters types. I enabled -Wall in gcc and I get warnings like: n.c:495: warning: int format, pointer arg (arg 15) n.c:495: warning: format argument is not a pointer (arg 16) n.c:495: warning: double format, pointer arg (arg 23) The function is like this: fprintf (ConvFilePtr, "\"FORMAT3\"%s%04d%s%04d%s%s%s%d%s%c%s%d%c%s%s%s%s%s%s%s%11.lf%s%11.lf%s%11.lf%s%d\n", some_28_arguments_go_here); I would like to know if there is a vim plugin that highlights the printf format specifier when i go with the cursor over a variable. Other solutions? How to better reformat the code to make it more readable?
