  • Storing non-content data in Orchard

    - by Bertrand Le Roy
    A CMS like Orchard is, by definition, designed to store content. What differentiates content from other kinds of data is rather subtle. The way I would describe it is by saying that if you would put each instance of a kind of data on its own web page, if it would make sense to add comments to it, or tags, or ratings, then it is content and you can store it in Orchard using all the convenient composition options that it offers. Otherwise, it probably isn't and you can store it using somewhat simpler means that I will now describe. In one of the modules I wrote, Vandelay.ThemePicker, there is some configuration data for the module. That data is not content by the definition I gave above. Let's look at how this data is stored and queried. The configuration data in question is a set of records, each of which has a number of properties: public class SettingsRecord { public virtual int Id { get; set;} public virtual string RuleType { get; set; } public virtual string Name { get; set; } public virtual string Criterion { get; set; } public virtual string Theme { get; set; } public virtual int Priority { get; set; } public virtual string Zone { get; set; } public virtual string Position { get; set; } } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } Each property has to be virtual for nHibernate to handle it (it creates derived classed that are instrumented in all kinds of ways). We also have an Id property. The way these records will be stored in the database is described from a migration: public int Create() { SchemaBuilder.CreateTable("SettingsRecord", table => table .Column<int>("Id", column => column.PrimaryKey().Identity()) .Column<string>("RuleType", column => column.NotNull().WithDefault("")) .Column<string>("Name", column => column.NotNull().WithDefault("")) .Column<string>("Criterion", column => column.NotNull().WithDefault("")) .Column<string>("Theme", column => column.NotNull().WithDefault("")) .Column<int>("Priority", column => column.NotNull().WithDefault(10)) .Column<string>("Zone", column => column.NotNull().WithDefault("")) .Column<string>("Position", column => column.NotNull().WithDefault("")) ); return 1; } When we enable the feature, the migration will run, which will create the table in the database. Once we've done that, all we have to do in order to use the data is inject an IRepository<SettingsRecord>, which is what I'm doing from the set of helpers I put under the SettingsService class: private readonly IRepository<SettingsRecord> _repository; private readonly ISignals _signals; private readonly ICacheManager _cacheManager; public SettingsService( IRepository<SettingsRecord> repository, ISignals signals, ICacheManager cacheManager) { _repository = repository; _signals = signals; _cacheManager = cacheManager; } The repository has a Table property, which implements IQueryable<SettingsRecord> (enabling all kind of Linq queries) as well as methods such as Delete and Create. Here's for example how I'm getting all the records in the table: _repository.Table.ToList() And here's how I'm deleting a record: _repository.Delete(_repository.Get(r => r.Id == id)); And here's how I'm creating one: _repository.Create(new SettingsRecord { Name = name, RuleType = ruleType, Criterion = criterion, Theme = theme, Priority = priority, Zone = zone, Position = position }); In summary, you create a record class, a migration, and you're in business and can just manipulate the data through the repository that the framework is exposing. You even get ambient transactions from the work context.

  • jQuery onkeyup event in textarea that does not fires when nothing change.

    - by Kucebe
    I was thinking to a function that check the key value pressed, and accept only the most common characters, canc, enter, ... because i need it only for basic ascii character set (not ñ, c, chinese chars, ...). Or function that after every keyup checks if value has changed. But really jQuery doesn't have an event handler for this situation? Oh, it should be cross-borwser.

  • Why does KeyDown event not have access to the current value of bound variable?

    - by Edward Tanguay
    In the example below: I start program, type text, click button, see text above. Press ENTER see text again. BUT: I start program, type text, press ENTER, see no text. It seems that the KeyDown event doesn't get access to the current value of the bound variable, as if it is always "one behind". What do I have to change so that when I press ENTER I have access to the value that is in the textbox so I can add it to the chat window? XAML: <Window x:Class="TestScroll.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="290" Width="300" Background="#eee"> <StackPanel Margin="10"> <ScrollViewer Height="200" Width="260" Margin="0 0 0 10" VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Auto" HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Auto"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding TextContent}" Background="#fff"/> </ScrollViewer> <StackPanel HorizontalAlignment="Left" Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBox x:Name="TheLineTextBox" Text="{Binding TheLine}" Width="205" Margin="0 0 5 0" KeyDown="TheLineTextBox_KeyDown"/> <Button Content="Enter" Click="Button_Click"/> </StackPanel> </StackPanel> </Window> Code-Behind: using System; using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Input; using System.ComponentModel; namespace TestScroll { public partial class Window1 : Window, INotifyPropertyChanged { #region ViewModelProperty: TextContent private string _textContent; public string TextContent { get { return _textContent; } set { _textContent = value; OnPropertyChanged("TextContent"); } } #endregion #region ViewModelProperty: TheLine private string _theLine; public string TheLine { get { return _theLine; } set { _theLine = value; OnPropertyChanged("TheLine"); } } #endregion public Window1() { InitializeComponent(); DataContext = this; TheLineTextBox.Focus(); } private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { AddLine(); } void AddLine() { TextContent += TheLine + Environment.NewLine; } private void TheLineTextBox_KeyDown(object sender, KeyEventArgs e) { if (e.Key == Key.Return) { AddLine(); } } #region INotifiedProperty Block public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; protected void OnPropertyChanged(string propertyName) { PropertyChangedEventHandler handler = PropertyChanged; if (handler != null) { handler(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName)); } } #endregion } }

  • How can I translate Linux keycodes from /dev/input/event* to ASCII in Perl?

    - by Bogdan Constantinescu
    I'm writing a Perl script that reads data from the infamous /dev/input/event* and I didn't find a way to translate the key codes generated by the kernel into ASCII. I'm talking about the linux key codes in this table here and I can't seem to find something that would help me translate them without hardcoding an array into the script. Am I missing something? I'd like to skip the array part because it doesn't seem to be a good practice, so any idea? :)

  • How to open saved event log archive in .NET?

    - by cybri200
    I have used the System.Diagnostics.EventLog to view the logs on the local computer. However, I would like to open a saved event log archive (.evt or .evtx) and view the logs that are contained in the saved file. I just need to view timestamps, messages, sources, etc. associated with the logs in the file. Can this be done in C#?

  • How do I determine which control fired an event?

    - by Daniel I-S
    I have the Value Changed event of two UISliders (both of which have referencing outlets) wired up to the following method: -(IBAction) sliderMoved:(id) sender {} How can I determine which slider was moved so that I can get its value and update the corresponding label? Or would it be simpler to have two separate events, one for each slider? The second option seems like unnecessary replication to me. Cheers, Dan
