  • Asp.net mvc application deployment / security issues

    I'll start with appologies; I wasn't sure if this was best posted here of Server Fault so if its in the wrong place then please move :-) Basic information I have written the first module of a new application at work. This is written using Visual Studio 2010, targetting .net 3.5 (at the moment) and asp.net mvc 2. This has been working fine during development running on the built in Development server from VS but however does not work once deployed to IIS 7/7.5. To deploy the application, I have built it in release mode and created a deployment package by right clicking on the project in the solution explorer (this will be done with an automated build in tfs once upgrade from the beta). This has then been imported into IIS on the server. The application is using windows/domain authentication. Issue #1 I can fire up internet explorer and browse to the application from a client computer as well as on a remote desktop connection. I can execute the code which reads/stores data in Session fine from the IE instance on the remote desktop but if I browse to it from the client pc it seems to lose the session state. I click on the form submit and the page refreshes and doesn't execute the required code. I've tried setting with; InProc, SQLServer and StateServer. but with no luck :-( Issue #2 As part of the application it views PDF and Tiff documents on the fly which are on a network share on the office network and creates thumbnails if the document hasn't been viewed before. This works if running on the machine the application is deployed to; however when browsing from a client pc I get an error saying: Access to the path '\\fileserver\folder\file.tif' is denied Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '\\fileserver\folder\file.TIF' is denied. ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via , the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user. As this is on a different server the user is not accessible. To get round this I have tried: 1 - setting the application pool to run as domain administrator (I know this is a security risk, but I'm just trying to get it to work at the moment!) 2 - to set the log on account for World Wide Web Publishing service to be the domain admin . When trying to restart the service I get ... Windows could not start the World Wide Web Publishing Service service on the Local Computer. Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified fro the other services running in the same process. Any pointers/help would be much appriciated as I'm pulling my hair out (of what little I have left). Update I've been using this funky little tool I found - DelegConfig v2 beta (Delegation / Kerberos Configuration Tool). This has been really usefull. So I've got the accessing of the file share working (there is a test page which will read the files) so now I've just got the issue of passing through the users credentials through to the SQL Server (wans't my choice to do it this way!!) to execute the queries etc. but I can't get it to log on as the user. It tries to access it as "NT Authority\Network Service" which doesn't have a sql login (as should be the logged on user). My connection string is: <add name="User" connectionString="Data Source=.;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> No initial catalog is specified as the system is over multiple dbs (also wasn't my choice!!). I really appriciate all the help so far! :-) Any further hints?!

  • Why am I getting null object reference error when saving (OnItemUpdating event) the first edit item

    I'm getting the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when trying to reference a HiddenField (lvEditProjectSteps_hdnStepStatusId for future reference) from the EditItem during the OnItemUpdating event after the Update event fires in a ListView. This only occurs on the FIRST item in the ListView. I checked the source and the HTML is being rendered properly. ANY insight is appreciated! Thanks in advance...   • Flash AS3: (VideoEvent.COMPLETE, completePlay) - listener is triggered before video is completed

    Hello, I have a flash video using the standard FLV Playback component that comes with Flash. I'm using ActionScript 3 to modify the appearance and set up an event listener. I've set it up to go to a new URL using "externalInterface" when the video completes play. The URL is set in a variable using SWFObject. On only a few instances (3 people out of 50 - tested using Amazon Turk), people reported being taken directly to the new url, before the video even started playing. It's difficult to repeat the issue, but it did happen to me once. It doesn't have anything to do with cache, since it has been reported on people going to the url for the first time. But when i turn on view state I am getting data in next pages. Is there any way to get the data. I cant turn on the view state due to performance issue.   • How do I run my C# application in scheduled tasks when I am not logged in

    I have a C# console application that just processes data. The problem is that when I log off, the console application ends. If I schedule the application to run at a set time and I am not logged in, the application does not run at all. I can run it interactively by double clicking the exe and I can open scheduled tasks and run it by right clicking and selecting run. As soon as I log out, the application ends. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Cocoa Application with Menubar but no Dock Icon / switch menu

    Hi, This is yet one more of those "how to switch from running with a dock icon to running without one" questions with a twist.. I don't want the dock icon but I do want a menu bar when the application is at the front. Is that possible? Running an application with LSUIElement set to 1 in the plist will launch the application without a dock icon, not showing up in the command-tab switch list and without a menu. You can switch from that mode to the "normal" mode with all three switched on via SetSystemModeUI from 10.2 onwards and via NSApplication setApplicationActivationPolicy since 10.6, but crucially there is no way back to the previous mode (go figure). So one way around this would be to launch with LSUIElement = 1 and then activate the menu bar when the application gets the focus and deactivate it on the application losing the focus.. alas I can't find a way of doing that. For example , a value will change all the textbox value and a values may only change some textbox value.How can I reRender conditionally ? What method is more prefer for maintainability?

    I am using Struts-1. I have developed a struts-based web application. I am using struts tags in my JSP pages supplied in struts-taglib.jar by inserting the following lines in the JSP file: <%@ taglib prefix="html" uri="http://struts.apache.org/tags-html" %> <%@ taglib prefix="logic" uri="http://struts.apache.org/tags-logic" %> <%@ taglib prefix="bean" uri="http://struts.apache.org/tags-bean" %> Now the application is working fine when I run it on my localsystem but when I deploy it on a server, it shows the following exception: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: The absolute uri: http://struts.apache.org/tags-html cannot be resolved in either web.xml or the jar files deployed with this application From the above exception, it seems that the application hasn't found the struts-taglib.jar file. But I have put the struts-taglib.jar in /WEB-INF/lib directory. Then where is the problem?     I have a custom control that overrides Window: public class Window : System.Windows.Window { static Window() { DefaultStyleKeyProperty.OverrideMetadata(typeof(Window), new System.Windows.FrameworkPropertyMetadata(typeof(Window))); } ... } It also has a style: <Style TargetType="{x:Type Controls:Window}" BasedOn="{StaticResource {x:Type Window}}"> <Setter Property="WindowStyle" Value="None" /> <Setter Property="Padding" Value="5" /> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type Controls:Window}"> ... Unfortunately, this breaks the propagation of the Validation.ErrorEvent for my window's contents. That is, my window can receive the event just fine, but I don't know what to do with it to mimic how a standard Window (or whoever) deals with it. If the validating controls are placed in a standard window, they work. They also work if I just take out the OverrideMetadata call (leaving them inside my custom window). Why is this happening, and how can I get the stock functionality for handling these validation error events working again? Thanks!

    Hi everyone, I have a strange jquery problem with multiple event handlers. What I'm trying to achieve is this: User selects some text on the page If the selection is not empty - show a context menu If user clicks somewhere else - the context menu should disappear I'm having troubles with the above i.e. sometimes the context menu appears correctly, sometimes it appears and disappears straight after user makes a selection. Please help. See the relevant parts of my code below.   • Excel vba -get ActiveX Control checkbox when event handler is triggered

    I have an excel spreadsheet that is separated into different sections with named ranges. I want to hide a named range when a checkbox is clicked. I can do this for one checkbox, but I would like to have a single function that can hide the appropriate section based on the calling checkbox. I was planning on calling that function from the event_handlers for when the checkboxes are clicked, and to pass the checkbox as an argument. Is there a way to access the checkbox object that calls the event handler?     I'm using setProximitySensingEnabled and implemented proximityStateChanged in my UIApplication subclass. It looks like if sensing is toggled, that the first "off" event is being lost. My UIApplication class is pretty basic... -(void)proximityStateChanged:(BOOL)state { NSLog(state ? @"ON" : @"OFF"); } In my application delegate, I have a UISwitch that enables/disables the proximity sensor. -(IBAction)toggleProxy:(id)sender { [UIApplication sharedApplication].proximitySensingEnabled = prox.on; } "prox" is my UISwitch. The test works fine when it first starts. I tap the switch to turn it on and then put my hand over the sensor for a second then move it away and get: 2009-03-11 12:43:00.465 Proximity[324:20b] ON 2009-03-11 12:43:02.514 Proximity[324:20b] OFF 2009-03-11 12:43:04.046 Proximity[324:20b] ON 2009-03-11 12:43:05.621 Proximity[324:20b] OFF I then tap the switch to turn it off then tap again to turn it on. Now I get: 2009-03-11 12:43:12.005 Proximity[324:20b] ON 2009-03-11 12:43:14.789 Proximity[324:20b] ON 2009-03-11 12:43:16.467 Proximity[324:20b] OFF 2009-03-11 12:43:17.516 Proximity[324:20b] ON 2009-03-11 12:43:19.077 Proximity[324:20b] OFF Notice I get two ON's before an OFF. The OFF is lost somewhere. I can't replicate this behavior using Google's mobile app so I'm wondering if they're resetting something in between proximity enabling. They don't have the proximity sensor on all the time because if you cover the sensor, the screen doesn't go blank. You have to tilt the phone up and angle it back (to simulate the position it would be in at your ear) and then covering the sensor works. Anyone else playing with the sensor? In my particular app, I'm recording a voice message and when you move the phone away from your ear, I want to pause the recording (when I get an OFF). The first time I move the phone away from my ear, the recording is not paused. However, if I put it to my ear and move it away again, it is paused.

  • Unusual request URL in ASP.NET health monitoring event

    I’m seeing a rather strange occurrence in the request information section of an ASP.NET health monitoring email I hope someone can shed some light on. This is a publicly facing website which runs on infrastructure at an Indian hosting provider. Health monitoring is notifying us of server errors via automated email but every now and then the requested URL appears as a totally different website. For example: Request information: Request URL: http://www.baidu.com/Default.aspx Request path: /Default.aspx User host address: 221.13.128.175 User: Is authenticated: False Authentication Type: Thread account name: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE Obviously the site in question is not Baidu and obviously this attribute is not the referrer either; the “Request URL” value is the path which has generated the error. The IP address is located in Beijing (coincidental given the Baidu address?) and in this instance it looks like the SQL server backend was not accessible (I haven't included the entire error message for security's sake). What would cause the request URL attribute to be arbitrarily changed to that of another site? I’ve never seen this occur in a health monitoring event before. Thanks!

    I am still new to c# and wpf This program is a clock with different view and I would like to use the context menu to change between view, but the error says that there is no definition or extension method for the events. In fact, the value of PropertyChanged on the Subscription objects is null. This is a puzzler, because I thought WPF is supposed to subscribe to the PropertyChanged event of data objects that implement INotifyPropertyChanged. Am I doing something wrong here?

    How do I log from within my web application deployed on Tomcat 6? Where should I expect the logging output to go (internal tomcat log files, or will another logfile be generated)? I see a ton of documentation but am having a hard time finding a direct answer to the above questions. Where should I expect the logging to show up (currently it is log4j is not generating a log file and it is not showing up in my console).     Hi all, I'm trying to develop a firefox toolbar ;) so my structure is In the options.xul is an PrefWindow which i'm opening over an <toolbarbutton oncommand="esbTb_OpenPreferences()"/> function esbTb_OpenPreferences() { window.openDialog("chrome://Toolbar/content/options.xul", "einstellungen", "chrome,titlebar,toolbar,centerscreen,modal", this);} so in my preferences i can set some checkboxes which indicates what links are presented in my toolbar. So when the preferences window is Closed or the "Ok" button is hitted I want to raise an event or an function which updates via DOM my toolbar. So this is the function which is called when the toolbar is loaded.
