  • Migrating My GWB Blog Over To WordPress

    Geeks With Blogs has been good to me, but there are too many tempting things about Word Press for me to stay with GWB.  Particularly their statistics features, and also I like that I can apply specific tags to my posts to make them easier to find in Google (and I never was able to get categories working on GWB). The one thing I don’t like about WordPress is I can’t seem to find a theme that stretches the Content area to take up the rest of the space on wide resolutions…..hopefully I’ll be able to overcome that obstacle soon though. For those who are curious as to how I actually moved all of my posts across, I ended up just using Live Writer to open my GWB posts, and then just changed it to publish to my WordPress blog.  This was fairly painless, but with my 27 posts it took probably about 2 hours of manual effort to do.  Most of the time WordPress was automatically able to copy the images over, but sometimes I had to save the pics from my GWB posts and then re-add them in Live Writer to my WordPress post.  I found another developers automated solution (in alpha mode), but opted to do it manually since I wanted to manually specify Categories and Tags on each post anyways.  The one thing I still have left to do is move the worthwhile comments across from the GWB posts to the new WordPress posts. The largest pain point was that with GWB I was using the Code Snippet Plugin for Live Writer for my source code snippets, and when they got transferred over to WordPress they looked horrible.  So I ended up finding a new Live Writer plugin called SyntaxHighlighter that looks even nicer on my posts If anybody knows of a nice WordPress theme that stretches the content area to fit the width of the screen, please let me know.  All of the themes I’ve found seem to have a max width set on them, so I end up with much wasted space on the left and right sides.  Since I post lots of code snippets, the more horizontal space the better!   • Nothing is written in php5-fpm.log

    I have two servers which is Ubuntu 12.04 and Ubuntu 14.04. When I use Ubuntu 14.04 in my new server and enabled the php-fpm log file found under /etc/php5/fpm/php-fpm.conf that reads as follows: error_log = /var/log/php5-fpm.log I noticed that most of the log that I found in Ubuntu 12.04 is not written in 14.04. For example, if I restart php5-fpm in my Ubuntu 12.04, a restart log is being written, however, this does not happen in 14.04. Another log which I missed in 14.04 are the following: [23-Aug-2014 16:23:03] NOTICE: [pool web42] child 118098 exited with code 0 after 12983.480191 seconds from start [23-Aug-2014 16:23:03] NOTICE: [pool web42] child 147653 started [23-Aug-2014 17:27:31] WARNING: [pool web8] child 76743, script '/var/www/mysite.com/web/wp-comments-post.php' (request: "POST /wp-comments-post.php") executing too slow (12.923022 sec), logging I really wanted to have this kind of log so I will know the length of time a slow script has executed.   • Slopes in 2D Platformer

    I'm dealing with Slopes in a 2D platformer game I'm developing in XNA Game Studio. I was really tired of trying without success, until I found this post: 45° Slopes in a Tile based 2D platformer, and I solved part of the problem with the bummzack answer. Now I'm dealing with 2 more problems: 1) Inverted slopes: The post says: If you're only dealing with 45 degree angles, then it gets even simpler: y1 = y + (x1 - x) If the slope is the other way round, it's: y1 = y + (v - (x1 - x)) My question is, what if I'm dealing with slopes with less than 45 degree angles? Does y1 = y + (v - (x1 - x)) work? 2) Going down the slope: I can't find a better way to handle the "going down through the slope" situation, considering that my player can accelerate its velocity. Edit: I was about to post a image but I guess I need to have more reputation he he he... What I'm trying to say with "going down" is like walking towards the opposite direction, assuming that if you are walking to the right, you are incrementing your Y position because you are climbing the slope, but if you are walking to the left, you are decrementing your Y position.

  • Need suggestion for FireFox add-on to simplify tweeting with multiple accounts.

    I've been using the Firefox Shareaholic browser add-on to post links quickly to my twitter account, and am very happy with it. Recently, however, my company has tasked me with updating our corporate twitter account too. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to offer the ability to register multiple twitter accounts and let you select one when you tweet the current page. I'm looking for suggestions on a browser add-on for Firefox to do just this. Just to be clear, I'm not looking to be able to post a single link to multiple twitter accounts at one time. I just want a one click "twitter this" that lets me pick which account to post it to. Bonus: If you know a workaround to do this in Shareaholic, that would be even better.

  • Windows 2008 RC2 IIS6 SMTP Virtual Servers - Limited to 4

    In line with this post: http://www.hugheserblog.com/2012/05/22/error-creating-iis-smtp-virtual-servers/ I am receiving the same issues: When we tried to add more than 4 IIS SMTP virtual servers, we got the error within IIS, “The system cannot find the path specified.” This post is almost 2 years old and my server is up to date with Windows updates so I assumed it would be fixed already. Does anyone know if I need to do something special (ie. contact Microsoft) to get a special fix for this? The information in the post suggests it should have been included in an update.

    I am currently building a randomly generated terrain game where terrain is created automatically around the player. I am experiencing lag when the generated process is active, as I am running quite heavy tasks with post-processing and creating physics bodies. Then I came to mind using a parallel asynchronous task to do the post-processing for me. But I have no idea how I am going to do that. I have searched for C++ std::async but I believe that is not what I want. In the examples I found, a task returned something. I want the task to change objects in the main program. This is what I want: // Main program // Chunks that needs to be processed. // NOTE! These chunks are already generated, but need post-processing only! std::vector<Chunk*> unprocessedChunks; And then my task could look something like this, running like a loop constantly checking if there is chunks to process. // Asynced task if(unprocessedChunks.size() > 0) { processChunk(unprocessedChunks.pop()); } I know it's not far from easy as I wrote it, but it would be a huge help for me if you could push me at the right direction.   • Is it safe to Update and/or Insert records into an accounting software's database? (Pastel Evolution)

    Our CRM system can post transactions to our accounts software (Pastel Evolution), but it doesn't perform the required currency conversion. Both systems have different "base" currencies (because of our location), so the figure thats sent to Pastel evolution is right, but it is reflected in the wrong currency. The CRM uses an ODBC connection to post figures to Evolution. I can make a tool which sits between the two systems which can update and/or insert the transactions into Pastel, by mimicking what the CRM would have done if it was doing the POST. Is it safe for me to mimic and/or update these transactions directly in the Pastel database? Is it common for important validation to be performed in the ODBC layer, and if so, can I tap into an applications ODBC, or is there a custom driver built by the CRM to communicate with the DB?

  • Routing generated paths in Ruby on Rails

    I'm a beginner in ruby-on-rails and I spent my last hour trying to do the following thing: I have a ruby-on-rails application - the blog with posts and categories. I want to have another URL for the posts (I would like to have http://localhost:3000/news instead of http://localhost:3000/posts) First I tried to replace the controller and classes from Posts to News, but I gave up(because of the annoyng singular-plural thing). Then in my I replaced map.resources :posts (case 1) to map.resources :news, :controller => "posts" #case 2 or map.resources :posts, :as => 'news' #case 3 in routes.rb as I saw on some websites. It doesn't work either. How can I do this?   • Possible bug in ASP.NET MVC with form values being replaced.

    I appear to be having a problem with ASP.NET MVC in that, if I have more than one form on a page which uses the same name in each one, but as different types (radio/hidden/etc), then, when the first form posts (I choose the 'Date' radio button for instance), if the form is re-rendered (say as part of the results page), I seem to have the issue that the hidden value of the SearchType on the other forms is changed to the last radio button value (in this case, SearchType.Name). Update: I've seen this bug again today. It seems that this crops its head when you return a posted page and use MVC set hidden form tags with the Html helper. I've contacted Phil Haack about this, because I don't know where else to turn, and I don't believe that this should be expected behaviour as specified by David.

In this case it does and it fails with personalprescriptioncode. I've looked in Active Directory under OU=Limbo and the post exist there with the attribute personalprescriptioncode=31243. Question 1: Why does it display no data for some of the PARAMETERS and LOCALS? Is it the GC who has cleaned up before the memorydump had been created. Question 2: Is there anymore i can do to get to the solution to this problem?

  • MVC multi page form losing session

    I have a multi-page form that's used to collect leads. There are multiple versions of the same form that we call campaigns. Some campaigns are 3 page forms, others are 2 pages, some are 1 page. They all share the same lead model and campaign controller, etc. There is 1 action for controlling the flow of the campaigns, and a separate action for submitting all the lead information into the database. I cannot reproduce this locally, and there are checks in place to ensure users can't skip pages. Session mode is InProc. But when these error occurs there is a different visitorID between the Campaign POST and the Submit POST. Because we track each form submission via the TrackLead() method during campaign and submit actions I can see session is being lost between calls, despite the OnActionExecuted firing after every POST and storing the form in session. So when there are errors, we get half the form under one visitorID and the remainder of the form under a different visitorID. Luckily we use a third party service which sends an API call every time a form value changes which uses it's own ID. These IDs are consistent between the first half of the form, and the remainder of the form, and the only way I can save the leads from the lost session issues. I should also note that this works fine 99% of the time. EDIT: I've modified my code to explicitly store my lead object in TempData and used the TempData.Keep() method to persist the object between subsequent requests. I've only deployed this behavior to 1 of my 3 sites but so far so good. I had also tried storing my lead objects in Session directly in the controller action i.e., Session.Add("lead", this._Lead); which uses HTTPSessionStateBase, attempting to circumvent the wrapper class, instead of HttpContext.Current.Session which uses HTTPSessionState. This modification made no difference on the issue, as expected.

    Hi, I have a favourite and un-favourite functionality in my application and I am using jQuery. This functionality works partially. The page gets loaded, and when I click the 'favourite' button(it is inside add_favourite_div element), it sends a XHR request and the post is set as favourite. Then a new div called "remove_favourite_div" replaces its place.Now when I click the remove favourite(which is part of remove_favourite_div), it sends a normal http request inside of xhr.   • UITouch Event Propagation To Background UIViews

    I'm having troubles getting any UIView that's not the foreground UIView to receive UITouch events. I'm building an all-Core Graphics-app, so I'm not using any built in UIViews or IB or anything - everything is programmatically constructed and drawn into. Here's my view hierarchy: Root View Type A Container Type A View Type A View Type A View Type B Container Type B View Type B View Type B View The containers are just vanilla UIView objects that I create programmatically and add instances of Type A and B to when they're created. I did this originally to make hitTesting easier—Type A objects can be drag-and-dropped onto Type B objects. Type A objects receive touch events fine, but Type B objects (which are contained by Type B Container which is behind Type A Container) don't receive touch events. Both containers occupy the entire screen; they're basically just convenience containers. If I pull Type B Container to the front (eg [self.view bringSubviewToFront:Type B Container]) it receives events properly, but then the Type A Container doesn't get events. How do I propagate events from the view that's on top? Both views occupy the entire screen, so it makes sense that the top-most view is catching the events, but how should I get it to pass those events on to Type B Container? I could inject some code in the container that passes the touch events back to the main ViewController which can pass them on to Type B Container but that feels really messy to me. Is there a nicer way to not have the Type A Container stop propagation? What's the best practice here?

    Hello, I'm trying to make my Custom Membership starting from ASP.NET's. I have a users table created by me which has as Primary Key a Guid UserId, exactly the sames as ASP.NET's default user and membership table. I have all the Foreign Key relationships built. However, I cannot insert the user into my custom users table. The data gets inserted correctly into the default ASP.NET's tables. I have tried the following scenarios: First version Receive the user model from POST call the CreateUser method of the Membership.class (stuff gets inserted) without modifying the user object, I try to insert it using EF's AddObject I receive the following error: "Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'LoweredUserName', table 'asp.dbo.aspnet_Users'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.\r\nThe statement has been terminated."} System.Exception {System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException The error actually makes sense as EF's AddObject doesn't know how to create the LoweredUserName value, and I don't want to do it, this is ASP.NET's job. Second version Receive the user model from POST call the CreateUser method of the Membership.class (stuff gets inserted) Get the Guid of the freshly inserted system user get the ASP.NET's User object and overwrite that of user.User get the ASP.NET's Membership object and overwrite that of user.Membership (remember the FKs) try again EF's AddObject new error {"The relationship between the two objects cannot be defined because they are attached to different ObjectContext objects."} System.Exception {System.InvalidOperationException} Don't know what this is, but it certenly doesn't make any sense for me. After some googleing I think that it has something to do with the context, but as I'm a beginner I don't know how to fix it.     Hi, I'm trying to receive broadcast messages using C# code in an ISDN network with BRI interface at my end. I see the packets sent to the broadcast ip address (239.255.255.255) on some ports using Comm View tool. But when I try to listen to this IP address, it says the address is not in a valid context. But when I send broadcast messages to 255.255.255.255 on a port, I can receive those messages with the below code.. What could be the problem with this ip address - 239.255.255.255 ? The code I use to listen to broadcast messages is.. When I tried to Reg-Free-COM (using manifest files) the control seems to be activated, but the events (such as mouse click, RequestBringIntoView etc) dont respond. These upsides come with a price: the ActiveX control must be registered in the registry, which requires some kind of installation such as an .msi. The default gadget installation process cannot install ActiveX. The ActiveX control can't be access via reg-free COM. ..." Has anybody had a similar experience? Can anyone explain what is going on? Additional details: When the control is activated after it has been registered it appears as part of the COM client's UI. The control does not receive focus, its elements receive it.   • Why does my Workflow Service (4.0) variable go null in a DoWhile Activity?

    I have a WF service that I'm trying to setup receive activities to "Subscribe" and "Unsubscribe". I'm using This WF Durable Duplex Tutorial as a basis because my service performs callbacks to clients. Basically, think of it as a chat service. I can make client calls to the two receive activities just fine. What happens is the callback address of the client is passed in to Subscribe() on the service. The address is stored as a variable in the WF service and everything looks like it would work as to be expected. When a client calls Unsubscribe(), my watch I have set on the address var during debugging shows it as null. So what gives? Here's the basic setup of my WF service layout... Everything is enveloped in a DoWhile activity. Inside of that is a Pick activity and two Pick branches. The first branch is for subscribing activities. It has a receive-sendreply activity that assigns the string passed by the client to the WF address var. The second branch handles unsubscribing. The trigger is the Request activity and the client address is again passed in. From there it goes into a sequence, starting with an If. It checks to see if the unsubscribeAddress equals the address already subscribed. If it does, then it sets the address to String.Empty and sends a success message back to the client. Why would a variable that's scoped to the enveloping DoWhile activity be implicitly assigned to null? I'm trying to get this to work so I can implement multiple client subscribers from there and work on triggers that invoke callbacks to multiple clients. CONCAT EDIT: I set a breakpoint at the DoWhile level and my var is null once Unsubscribe() is called. When Subscribe() is invoked, the watch shows a value in the var all the way through. Until I Unsubscribe() with a client. Should I be using a While Activity instead?

    We are starting to develop a new application and I'm searching for information/tips/guides on application architecture. Application should: read the data from an external (USB) device send the data to the remote server (through internet) receive the data from the remote server perform a video call with to the calling (support) center receive a video call call from the calling (support) center support touch screens In addition: some of the data should also be visible through the web page. So I was thinking about: On the server side: use the database (probably MS SQL) use ORM (nHibernate) to map the data from the DB to the domain objects create a layer with business logic in C# create a web (WCF) services (for client application) create an asp.net mvc application (for item 7.) to enable data view through the browser On the client side I would use WPF 4 application which will communicate with external device and the wcf services on the server. So far so good. Now the problem begins. I have no idea how to create a video call (outgoing or incoming) part of the application. I believe that there is no problem to communicate with microphone, speaker, camera with WPF/C#. But how to communicate with the call center? What protocol and encoding should be used? I think that I will need to create some kind of server which will: have a list of operators in the calling center and track which operator is occupied and which operator is free have a list of connected end users receive incoming calls from end users and delegate call to free operator delegate calls from calling center to the end user Any info, link, anything on where to start would be much appreciated. I am posting an xml query from Fiddler and i receive the result without any problem. PS: Some of you will say that i do not send application/xml as ContentType but multipart, which of course is false because the objects are annotated with the required @XmlRootElement etc, otherways neither the POST from Fiddler would work.

I have a feeling it could be to do with the while loop? it could be looping around in there and not letting anything else run?
