  • mysql twitter/facebook like status feed

    - by barjonah
Hi, I have two tables. One named status like this... user_id | status --------+----------- 1 | random status from user 1 2 | random status from user 2 3 | random message from user 3 4 | staus from user 4 1 | second status for user1 etc... and another named users_following like this... user_id | is_following --------+----------- 1 | 2 1 | 3 2 | 1 3 | 2 meaning that user 1 is following both users 2 and 3 etc... So, let's say I chose user 1. What is the best query (performance wise) to show the status updates of users that user 1 is following, in this case users 2 and 3 currently I have something like SELECT * from status WHERE user_id IN(SELECT is_following FROM users_following WHERE user_id='1') LIMIT 0,5 but I don't think this is good for performance if a user was following thousands+ of users

  • how to do reverse fulltext search in MySQL?

    - by Shore
By default it's like this: select * from main_table where match(col1,col2) against('search_item'); but what I want to fetch is the reverse, say,I've restored all the search_item(1000 records, for example), and I want to see which of them matches a specified row in main_table. Is that doable?

  • How to loop through an array return from the Query of Mysql

    - by Jerry
This might be easy for you guys but i could't get it. I have a php class that query the database and return the query result. I assign the result to an array and wants to use it on my main.php script. I have tried to use echo $var[0] or echo $var[1] but the output are 'array' instead of my value. Anyone can help me about this issue? Thanks a lot! My php class <?php class teamQuery { function teamQuery(){ } function getAllTeam(){ $connection = mysql_connect(DB_SERVER,DB_USER,DB_PASS); if (!$connection) { die("Database connection failed: " . mysql_error()); } $db_select = mysql_select_db(DB_NAME,$connection); if (!$db_select) { die("Database selection failed: " . mysql_error()); } $teamQuery=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM team", $connection); if (!$teamQuery){ die("database has errors: ".mysql_error()); } $ret = array(); while($row=mysql_fetch_array($teamQuery)){ $ret[]=$row; } mysql_free_result($teamQuery); return $ret; } } ?> My php on the main.php $getTeam=new teamQuery(); $team=$getTeam->getAllTeam(); //echo $team[0] or team[1] output 'array' string! // while($team){ // do something } can't work either // How to loop through the values?? Thanks!

  • delete row from mysql through generated table with records

    - by HennySmafter
    I am using 2 pages. On one page it generates a table with the records and a delete button. After pressing delete it goes to the second page which should delete the record. But it doesn't. Below is the code that I am using. PS: The code is adapted from a tutorial I found through Google a while ago. delete_overzicht.php <?php // Load Joomla! configuration file require_once('../../../configuration.php'); // Create a JConfig object $config = new JConfig(); // Get the required codes from the configuration file $server = $config->host; $username = $config->user; $password = $config->password; $database = $config->db; // Connect to db $con = mysqli_connect($server,$username,$password,$database); if (!$con){ die('Could not connect: ' . mysqli_error($con)); } mysqli_select_db($con,$database); // Get results $result = mysqli_query($con,"SELECT * FROM cypg8_overzicht"); echo "<table border='1' id='example' class='tablesorter'><thead><tr><th>Formulier Id</th><th>Domeinnaam</th><th>Bedrijfsnaam</th><th>Datum</th><th>Periode</th><th>Subtotaal</th><th>Dealernaam</th><th>Verwijderen</th></tr></thead><tbody>"; while($row = mysqli_fetch_array($result)) { echo "<tr>"; echo "<td>" . $row['formuliernummer'] . "</td>"; echo "<td>" . $row['domeinnaam'] . "</td>"; echo "<td>" . $row['bedrijfsnaam'] . "</td>"; echo "<td>" . $row['datum'] . "</td>"; echo "<td>" . $row['periode'] . "</td>"; echo "<td> &euro; " . $row['subtotaal'] . "</td>"; echo "<td>" . $row['dealercontactpersoon'] . "</td>"; echo "<td><a href='delete.php?id=" . $row['id'] . "'>Verwijderen </a></td>"; echo "</tr>"; } echo "</tbody></table>"; mysqli_close($con); ?> delete.php <?php // Load Joomla! configuration file require_once('../../../configuration.php'); // Create a JConfig object $config = new JConfig(); // Get the required codes from the configuration file $server = $config->host; $username = $config->user; $password = $config->password; $database = $config->db; // Connect to db $con = mysqli_connect($server,$username,$password,$database); if (!$con){ die('Could not connect: ' . mysqli_error($con)); } mysqli_select_db($con,$database); // Check whether the value for id is transmitted if (isset($_GET['id'])) { // Put the value in a separate variable $id = $_GET['id']; // Query the database for the details of the chosen id $result = mysqli_query($con,"DELETE * FROM cypg8_overzicht WHERE id = $id"); } else { die("No valid id specified!"); } ?> Thanks to everyone who is willing to help!

  • [PHP/MySQL] How to create text diff web app

    - by Adam Kiss
Hello, idea I would like to create a little app for myself to store ideas (the thing is - I want it to do MY WAY) database I'm thinking going simple: id - unique id of revision in database text_id - identification number of text rev_id - number of revision flags - various purposes - expl. later title - self expl. desc - description text - self expl . flags - if I (i.e.) add flag rb;65, instead of storing whole text, I just said, that whenever I ask for latest revision, I go again in DB and check revision 65 Question: Is this setup the best? Is it better to store the diff, or whole text (i know, place is cheap...)? Does that revision flag make sense (wouldn't it be better to just copy text - more disk space, but less db and php processing. php I'm thinking, that I'll go with PEAR here. Although main point is to open-edit-save, possiblity to view revisions can't be that hard to program and can be life-saver in certain situations (good ideas got deleted, saving wrong version, etc...). However, I've never used PEAR in a long-time or full-project relationship, however, brief encounters in my previous experience left rather bad feeling - as I remember, it was too difficult to implement, slow and humongous to play with, so I don't know, if there's anything better. why? Although there are bazillions of various time/project/idea management tools, everything lacks something for me, whether it's sharing with users, syncing on more PCs, time-tracking, project management... And I believe, that this text diff webapp will be for internal use with various different tools later. So if you know any good and nice-UI-having project management app with support for text-heavy usage, just let me know, so I'll save my time for something better than redesigning the weel.

  • A strange bug, is Mysql asynchronous?

    - by Farf
Hello, I have a strange bug. I launch a PHP Unit test Suite. At the beginning, it executes a big query to initialize the database. If I put a breakpoint just after the execution of the sql, there is no problem and my tests pass. If I don't put any break point, they don't pass and say that the tables don't exist! It works as if the sql query was asynchronous! Do you have an idea of the bug? Or how to debug that? Thanks a lot in advance for your help, I'm lost! Farf

  • Calculating average (AVG) and grouping by week on large data set takes too long

    - by caioiglesias
I'm getting average prices by week on 7 million rows, it's taking around 30 seconds to get the job done. This is the simple query: SELECT AVG(price) as price, yearWEEK(FROM_UNIXTIME(timelog)) as week from pricehistory where timelog > $range and product_id = $id GROUP BY week The only week that actually gets data changed and is worth averaging every time is always the last one, so this calculation for the whole period is a waste of resources. I just wanted to know if mysql has a tool to help out on this.

  • MySQL: Return grouped fields where the group is not empty, effeciently

    - by Ryan Badour
In one statement I'm trying to group rows of one table by joining to another table. I want to only get grouped rows where their grouped result is not empty. Ex. Items and Categories SELECT Category.id FROM Item, Category WHERE Category.id = Item.categoryId GROUP BY Category.id HAVING COUNT(Item.id) > 0 The above query gives me the results that I want but this is slow, since it has to count all the rows grouped by Category.id. What's a more effecient way? I was trying to do a Group By LIMIT to only retrieve one row per group. But my attempts failed horribly. Any idea how I can do this? Thanks

  • mySQL: Can I make count() honor limit clause?

    - by Stomped
I'm trying to get a count of records matching certain criteria within a subset of the total records. I tried (and assumed this would work) SELECT count(*) FROM records WHERE status = 'ADP' LIMIT 0,10 and I assumed this would tell me how many records of status ADP were in that set of 10 records. It doesn't - it returns, in this case 30, which is the total number of ADP records in the table. How do I just count up the records matching my criteria including the limit?

  • PHP/MySQL - an array filter for bots

    - by Mike
Hello, I'm making a hit counter. I have a database and I store the IP and $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']; of the visitors. Now I need to add a filter, so I can put away the hits, that are made by bots. I found out, that many bots usually keep some common words in the $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']; , so I's like to make and array of words, that would keep the bot from displaying in the results. Here is what I have now: while($row = mysql_fetch_array($yesterday, MYSQL_ASSOC)) { <-- Here I need a code, that would run through an array and check, if it containts the keywords and if it doesn't ... just count++; -- } Also if you know any other way of detecting and removing the bots from the results, I'd be verry thankful. Cheers

I'm trying to write a query that will: Run a query, give me (x) number of rows (limit 4) If that query didn't give me the 4 I need, run a second query limit 4-(x) and exclude the ids from the first query A third query that acts like the second I have this: (SELECT *, 1 as SORY_QUERY1 FROM xbamZ where state = 'Minnesota' and industry = 'Miscellaneous' and id != '229' limit 4) UNION (SELECT *, 2 FROM xbamZ where state = 'Minnesota' limit 2) UNION (SELECT *, 3 FROM xbamZ where industry = 'Miscellaneous' limit 1) How (or is?) do I do that? Am I close? This query gives me duplicates
