  • How can I limit user bandwidth usage?

    - by Scarface
Ok, I have a site, and it serves all images and mp3s through a php script and can be controlled and limited, but I am now worried about overall bandwidth of my site. For example, what if someone just sends a million requests to one of my pages? Does anyone have any suggestions into server methods used to prevent this? Should I use mod_cband http://www.howtoforge.com/mod_cband_apache2_bandwidth_quota_throttling_p2?

  • Tracking user changes in ASP.NET MVC

    - by Ian Roke
I have a requirement to track what authenticated users change with regards to the data when logged in. I don't need to track what pages they look at although that could be very useful in future. I have thought about saving the User Guid but that seems very clunky. Are there other methods/best practises?

    - by Brett

All good, when the user clicks to a different tab, I want to read a property, maybe execute a function from within the ajax loaded div. What is the best way to get to these properties and methods from outsite the ajax loaded div?

  • when to use "willChangeValueForKey" and "didChangeValueForKey"?

    - by Frost Li
I saw these lines in a demo project, but I couldn't understand why it did that. [self willChangeValueForKey:@"names"]; [self didChangeValueForKey:@"names"]; It called didChangeValueForKey immediately after willChangeeValueForKey. Does it make any sense? Furthermore, when should be the right time to call this two methods? Thanks a lot!! :)

  • Centralizing / Abstracting MSSQL Data from Multiple Tables / Databases

    - by davemackey
If one has a number of databases (due to separate application front-ends) that provide a complete picture - for example a CRM, accounting, and product database - what methods are available to centralize/abstract this data for easy reporting? Essentially, I'm wondering if there is a way to automatically pull data from multiple databases into a central repository that is continuously updated from the three databases and which can be used for reporting? I'm also open to alternative best practice suggestions?

  • Route Values for Area (MVC3)

    - by Jim
    Hi, I am using areas in MVC version 3. My logoff and logon action methods are routing to the area, and I need them to route to the normal controller that is not in an area. I have tried the following host://AREA/CONTROLLER/METHOD instead of host://CONTROLLER/METHOD. @if(Request.IsAuthenticated) { <text>Welcome <b>@Context.User.Identity.Name</b> [ @Html.ActionLink("Log Off", "LogOff", "Account", new { area = "" }) ]</text> } else { @:[ @Html.ActionLink("Log On", "LogOn", "Account", new { area = "" }) ] }

I have a closed source Java application for which vendor has provided APIs for customization. As I have no other documents, i rely completely on the API's javadoc. I want to trace what methods are actually called in different classes for a particular use case. Is there any way to do that with eclipse?

  • Main point of Application Delegate class

    - by ahmet732
What's the main point behind putting variables and method signatures inside ApplicationDelegate.h in Objective-C ? By doing this, all those methods and variables are seen by another view controller classes? Is that the point? And also: is there only one application delegate class inside each project?

  • How to delete "-" file from svn?

    - by ~brzeti
Accidentally I have created file "-" (just a minus) in a directory and commited it. I have to delete it because its causing error on other machines: svn: Can't convert string from 'UTF-8' to native encoding: svn: ?\226?\128?\147 I can remove it from local directory using "rm -i *" or with python "os.remove('\xe2\x80\x93')" but those methods do not work with "svn rm". How to delete such file from svn repository?

  • Sequential coupling in code

    - by dotnetdev
Hi, Is sequential coupling (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sequential_coupling) really a bad thing in code? Although it's an anti-pattern, the only risk I see is calling methods in the wrong order but documentation of an API/class library with this anti-pattern should take care of that. What other problems are there from code which is sequential? Also, this pattern could easily be fixed by using a facade it seems. Thanks

  • Is there a way to reliably detect the total number of CPU cores?

    - by John Sheares
I need a reliable way to detect how many CPU cores are on a computer. I am creating a numerically intense simulation C# application and want to create the maximum number of running threads as cores. I have tried many of the methods suggested around the internet like Environment.ProcessorCount, using WMI, this code: http://blogs.adamsoftware.net/Engine/DeterminingthenumberofphysicalCPUsonWindows.aspx. None of them seem to think a AMD X2 has two cores. Any ideas?

  • Anyone experienced with Adobe ExtendScript?

    - by lenrussell
There's a dearth of info in the supporting PDFs and on the web. I happened to come across a post in a blog that mentioned that $.write() or $.writeln() will write a string to the javascript console. Quite useful. Does anyone know if this $ object has any additional properties or methods?

  • NoSQL vs Relational Coding Styles

    - by Chris Henry
When building objects that make use of data stored in a RDBMS, it's normally pretty clear what you're getting back, as dictated by the tables and columns being queried. However, when dealing with NoSQL, document-based systems, it's less clear what is being retrieved. What are common methods of keeping track of structure in which data is stored?

  • How do I achieve virtual attributes in CakePHP (using code, not SQL) as implemented in Ruby on Rails

    - by ash
Source: http://asciicasts.com/episodes/16-virtual-attributes I'd like to achieve a similar setup as below, but in CakePHP and where the virtual attributes are created using code, not SQL (as documented at http://book.cakephp.org/view/1070/Additional-Methods-and-Properties#Using-virtualFields-1590). class User < ActiveRecord::Base # Getter def full_name [first_name, last_name].join(' ') end # Setter def full_name=(name) split = name.split(' ', 2) self.first_name = split.first self.last_name = split.last end end

  • Format TimeSpan in DataGridView column

    - by Dan Neely
I've seen these questions but both involve methods that aren't available in the CellStyle Format value. I only want to show the hours and minutes portion (16:05); not the seconds as well (16:05:13). I tried forcing the seconds value to zero but still got something like 16:05:00. Short of using a kludge like providing a string or a DateTime (and only showing the hour/minutes part) is there any way I can get the formatting to do what I want.

  • PHP-OOP extending two classes?

    - by user1292810
I am very beginner to OOP and now I am trying to write some PHP class to connect with FTP server. class ftpConnect { private $server; private $user; private $password; private $connection_id; private $connection_correct = false; public function __construct($server, $user = "anonymous", $password = "[email protected]") { $this->server = $server; $this->user = $user; $this->password = $password; $this->connection_id = ftp_connect($this->server); $this->connection_correct = ftp_login($this->connection_id, $this->user, $this->password); if ( (!$this->connection_id) || (!$this->connection_correct) ){ echo "Error! Couldn't connect to $this->server"; var_dump($this->connection_id); var_dump($this->connection_correct); return false; } else { echo "Successfully connected to $this->server, user: $this->user"; $this->connection_correct = true; return true; } } } I reckon that body of the class is insignificant at the moment. Main issue is that I have some problems with understanding OOP idea. I wanted to add sending emails every time, when the code is run. I have downloaded PHPMailer Class and extended my class with it: class ftpConnect extends PHPMailer {...} I have added some variables and methods and everything works as expected to that point. I thought: why not to add storing everything in database. Everytime user runs above code, proper information should be stored in database. I could edit my ftpConnect class and add database connecting to the constructor, and some other methods to updating tables. But database connecting and all that stuff could be used by other classes in the future, so it definitely should be implemented in seperate class. But my "main" ftpConnect class already extends one class and could not extend not a single one more. I have no idea how can I resolve this problem. Maybe my ftpConnect class is to complex and I should somehow divide it into couple smaller classes? Any help is much appreciated.
