    Hi All I need to read a CSV file in python. Since for last row I receive a 'NULL byte' error I would like to avoid using for keyword but the while. Do you know how to do that? reader = csv.reader( file ) for row in reader # I have an error at this line # do whatever with row I want to substitute the for-loop with a while-loop so that I can check if the row is NULL or not. What is the function for reading a single row in the CSV module?   • removing elements incrementally from a list

    Dear all, I've a list of float numbers and I would like to delete incrementally a set of elements in a given range of indexes, sth. like: for j in range(beginIndex, endIndex+1): print ("remove [%d] => val: %g" % (j, myList[j])) del myList[j] However, since I'm iterating over the same list, the indexes (range) are not valid any more for the new list. Does anybody has some suggestions on how to delete the elements properly? Best wishes

  • Array of function pointers in Java

    I have read this question and I'm still not sure whether it is possible to keep pointers to methods in an array in Java, if anyone knows if this is possible or not it would be a real help. I'm trying to find an elegant solution of keeping a list of Strings and associated functions without writing a mess of hundreds of 'if's. Cheers edit- 'functions' changed to 'methods', seems to bug people.

I have two short questions: I could guess what array means, but once I see it on the code, how can I know to which library it belongs and more information about it?   • Finding out event that called a CGI script

    What I want is to be able to make my CGI script do different things depending on what action initiated the calling of the script. For example, if one button is pressed, a database is cleared. If another button is pressed, a form is submitted and that data is added to the database. Should I be doing something like adding the name of the form/button to the end of the POST data submitted in jQuery and then .poping it off in the script? Or is there some other data that's already sent in the POST that I could get from FieldStorage that would give me the information I need to decide what the script should do when it's called? And what if I wasn't using javascript? Would I have to have a hidden field that gets submitted with the name of the form/button? Or is it best to use a different target script for each button on a page?

    I need to parse a string 'Open URN: 100000 LA: ' and get 100000 from it. on python regexp (?<=Open URN: )[0-9]+(?= LA:) works fine but in php it gives following error: preg_match(): Unknown modifier '[' I need it working php, so please help me to solve this problem and tell about difference in python and php regexps.

    I've posted a code snippet on another forum asking for help and people pointed out to me that using GoTo statements is very bad programming practice. I'm wondering: why is it bad? What alternatives to GoTo are there to use in VB.NET that would be considered generally more of a better practice? Consider this snippet below where the user has to input their date of birth.     I have a dummy class where I am testing arrays. I've noticed that when I want to dynamically allocate size of array at runtime, fields that indicate this size have to be static. I know I should probably use collections for this kind of code, but I'm more interested why do these fields have to be static?   • How to rate a connect four game situation in java

    Hey, I am trying to write a simple AI for a "Get four" game. The basic game principles are done, so I can throw in coins of different color, and they stack on each other and fill a 2D Array and so on and so forth. until now this is what the method looks like: public int insert(int x, int color) //0 = empty, 1=player1 2=player2" X is the horizontal coordinate, as the y coordinate is determined by how many stones are in the array already, I think the idea is obvious. Now the problem is I have to rate specific game situations, so find how many new pairs, triplets and possible 4 in a row I can get in a specific situation to then give each situation a specific value. With these values I can setup a "Game tree" to then decide which move would be best next (later on implementing Alpha-Beta-Pruning). My current problem is that I can't think of an efficient way to implement a rating of the current game situation in a java method. I've read a lot of things about the benefits of learning C. Before I dig any deeper into Python I wonder if I will be hindered or helped by learning Python first.
