  • What does the question mark at then end of a css file mean/do?

    - by Bob Dylan
    I've noticed that on some websites (including SO) the link to the CSS will look like: <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://sstatic.net/so/all.css?v=6638"> I would say its safe to assume that ?v=6638 tells the browser to load version 6638 of the css file. But can I do this on my websites and can I include different versions of my CSS file just by changing the numbers?

  • Why doesn't this Ruby on Rails code work as I intend it to?

    - by Justin Meltzer
    So I attempted to build what I asked about in this question: Fix voting mechanism However, this solution doesn't work. A user can still vote however many times he or she wants. How could I fix this and/or refactor? def create @video = Video.find(params[:video_id]) @vote = @video.video_votes.new @vote.user = current_user if params[:type] == "up" @vote.value = 1 else @vote.value = -1 end if @previous_vote.nil? if @vote.save respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to @video } format.js end else respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to @video } format.js {render 'fail_create.js.erb'} end end elsif @previous_vote.value == params[:type] @previous_vote.destroy else @previous_vote.destroy if @vote.save respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to @video } format.js end else respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to @video } format.js {render 'fail_create.js.erb'} end end end @previous_vote = VideoVote.where(:video_id => params[:video_id], :user_id => current_user.id).first end

  • How to do an IF statement based on the value of a MySQL table cell?

    - by Susan
    How can I do an if statement based on the value of a mysql table cell. For example, I have a table of people with a column called marital_status. This column has one of two values: yes or no. But this doesn't work: $query = mysql_query("SELECT marital_status FROM people WHERE first_name = 'John'"); while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($query)) { $maritalStatus = $row['marital_status']; } if ($maritalStatus == "yes") { echo "This person is married."; } else { echo "This person is NOT married."; } $maritalStatus == "yes" doesn't return as true even though that is exactly the value in that cell.

  • Interface Builder error: IBXMLDecoder: The value for key is too large to fit into a 32 bit integer

    - by stdout
    I'm working with Robert Payne's fork of PSMTabBarControl that works with IB 3.2 (thanks BTW Robert!): http://codaset.com/robertjpayne/psmtabbarcontrol/. The demo application works fine on 64-bit systems, but when I try to open the XIB file in Interface Builder on a 32-bit system I get: IBXMLDecoder: The value (4654500848) for key (myTrackingRectTag) is too large to fit into a 32 bit integer Building the app as 32 bit works, but then running it gives: PSMTabBarControlDemo[9073:80f] * -[NSKeyedUnarchiver decodeInt32ForKey:]: value (4654500848) for key (myTrackingRectTag) too large to fit in 32-bit integer Not sure if this is a generic IB issue that can occur when moving between 64 and 32 bit systems, or if this is a more specific issue with this code. Has anyone else run into this?

  • What's the reason for leaving an extra blank line at the end of a code file?

    - by Lord Torgamus
    Eclipse and MyEclipse create new Java files with an extra blank line after the last closing brace by default. I think CodeWarrior did the same thing a few years back, and that some people leave such blank lines in their code either by intention or laziness. So, this seems to be at least a moderately widespread behavior. As a former human language editor -- copy editing newspapers, mostly -- I find that those lines look like sloppiness or accidents, and I can't think of a reason to leave them in source files. I know they don't affect compilation in C-style languages, including Java. Are there benefits to having those lines, and if so, what are they?

  • vim opens my folds on paste. how to prevent that ?

    - by Stefano Borini
    There's something weird going on in my fortran folding. This is the example file module foo contains subroutine hello() end subroutine hello subroutine hello() end subroutine subroutine hello() end subroutine end module foo subroutine hello() end subroutine subroutine hello() end subroutine subroutine hello() end subroutine and this is the vimrc syntax on au! BufRead,BufNewFile *.f90 setfiletype fortran set foldmethod=syntax let fortran_fold=1 The annoying thing is the following. If I cut (dd) and paste (P) a folded subroutine outside the module/end module block, the freshly pasted fold stay closed. If I paste it inside the module/end module block, the newly pasted folded region appears instead unfolded. Can you reproduce the issue (vim 7.2 here) and do you know any workaround/fix ?

  • What is the most efficiant way to get the highest and the lowest value in a Array

    - by meo
    is there something like PHP: max() in javascript? lets say i have an array like this: [2, 3, 23, 2, 2345, 4, 86, 8, 231, 75] and i want to return the highest and the lowest value in this array. What is the fastest way to do that? i have tried: function madmax (arr) { var max = arr[0], min = arr[1] if (min > max) { max = arr[1] min = arr[0] } for (i=1;i<=arr.length;i++){ if( arr[i] > max ) { max = arr[i] }else if( arr[i] < min ) { min = arr[i] } } return max, min } madmax([123, 2, 345, 153, 5, 98, 456, 4323456, 1, 234, 19874, 238, 4]) Is there a simpler way retrieve the max and min value of a array?

  • Drying repeated specs in RSpec

    In the test below, the Bar and Baz blocks contain identical specs. Leaving aside why such repetition was necessary in the first place, I'm wondering how one could dry this up. I tried turning the blocks into objects and calling them under Bar and Baz, but possibly because I did not get the scopes right, I have not been able to make it work. describe Foo do describe Bar do before(:each) do prepare end it "should do something" do true end it "should do something else" do true end end describe Baz do before(:each) do prepare_something_else end it "should do something" do true end it "should do something else" do true end end end

  • How to convert an ASCII HEX character to it's value (0-15)?

    - by philcolbourn
    I am writing a string parser and the thought occurred to me that there might be some really interesting ways to convert an ASCII hexadecimal character [0-9A-Fa-f] to it's numeric value. What are the quickest, shortest, most elegant or most obscure ways to convert [0-9A-Fa-f] to it's value between 0 and 15? Assume, if you like, that the character is a valid hex character. I have no chance so I'll have a go at the most boring. ( c <= '9' ) ? ( c - '0' ) : ( (c | '\x60') - 'a' + 10 )

  • Will JavaScript evaluate a property's value if it's not part of an assignment statement?

    - by Bungle
    I've come across a fairly obscure problem having to do with measuring a document's height before the styling has been applied by the browser. More information here: http://sonspring.com/journal/jquery-iframe-sizing http://ajaxian.com/archives/safari-3-onload-firing-and-bad-timing In Dave Hyatt's comment from June 27, he advises simply checking the document.body.offsetLeft property to force Safari to do a reflow. Can I simply use the following statement: document.body.offsetLeft; or do I need to assign it to a variable, e.g.: var force_layout = document.body.offsetLeft; in order for browsers to calculate that value? I think this comes down to a more fundamental question - that is, without being part of an assignment statement, will JavaScript still evaluate a property's value? Does this depend on whether a particular browser's JavaScript engine optimizes the code?

  • How to put .com at the end of email addressed by regex?

    - by terces907
    Example I received a email-list from my friends but the problem is some people typed an email in full form ([email protected]) and some people typed (xxx@xxx without .com). And i want to improve it into the same format. How can i improve it if i want to edit them on vi? In my emaillist.txt foo@gmail [email protected] bas@gmail [email protected] mike@abc john@email My try: i tried to use an easy regex like this to catch the pattern like xxx@xxx :%s/\(\w*@\w*\)/\0.com/g and :%s/\(\w*@\w*[^.com]\)/\0.com/g But the problem is this regex include [email protected] also And the result become like this after i enter the command above [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] So, My expectation after substitution is should be like this: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] How to use regex in this situation?
