• django forms from two tables referencial integrity

  i have a class named cv,and a class named university, and each user that completes his cv, should choose a University he studyes at. My problem is: one student can study at one or 2 or three universities, or may be a user that is not student. I need to take this data into a form, and i use ModelForm. The data from the Cv class, and from the University class in the same form, and the user can add one or more universities, or no university. (in the same form) How should i do it? Should i use ModelForm? if i have a foreign key in the CV class, and the user is not a student (so he is at zero universities), i may get an referencial integrity error. thanks a lot

• Data Binding Error retrival

  Hello My scenarion is this 1- i have a Form which is dynamically generated with some XML configuration information. 2- i am attaching Data Binding for a textbox in Text_Loaded event a well as Validation Rules and i am attaching Validation.AddErrorHandler for showing message boxs 3- Data Source for the binding is a DataTable. 4- I am having record navigation buttons on the form generated in step 1 (Next,Last,First,Previous) 5- If user edits data with invalid values in record no 1 validation fires and it creats a red border 6-user press Next button to navigate to record no 2 but does not update error field in record no 1 i.e. she leaves record no 1 with some error not in my data source but on the form. 7- She came back to record no 1 , here my problem begins , Record no 1 is updated with old values and does not show error which she made. i know that ValidationRules will not allow wrong input to update my data source which is fine but i need to handle point no 7 , there is no direct way to handle this situation , any help is much appriciated

• How to run lengthy tasks from an ASP.NET page?

  I've got an ASP.NET page with a simple form. The user fills out the form with some details, uploads a document, and some processing of the file then needs to happens on the server side. My question is - what's the best approach to handling the server side processing of the files? The processing involves calling an exe. Should I use seperate threads for this? Ideally I want the user to submit the form without the web page just hanging there while the processing takes place. • public DialogResult ShowDialog() help!

  I have two forms. The first form is the mainForm, this never goes anywhere. On opening the second form (saveForm), it will display over the top. When i close this form, I want a certain piece of code in the mainForm to run. I assume this is the correct way to get this to happen? • Override Django inlineformset_factory has_changed() to always return True

  Hi, I am using the django inlineformset_factory function. a = get_object_or_404(ModelA, pk=id) FormSet = inlineformset_factory(ModelA, ModelB) if request.method == 'POST': metaform = FormSet (instance=a, data=request.POST) if metaform.is_valid(): f = metaform.save(commit=False) for instance in f: instance.updated_by = request.user instance.save() else: metaform = FormSet(instance=a) return render_to_response('nodes/form.html', {'form':metaform}) What is happening is that if I change any of the data then everything works ok and all the data gets updated. However if I don't change any of the data then the data is not updated. i.e. only entries which are changed go through the for loop to be saved. I guess this makes sense as there is no point saving data if it has not changed. However I need to go through and save every object in the form regardless of whether it has any changes on not. So my question is how do I override this so that it goes through and saves every record whether it has any changes or not? Hope this makes sense Thanks

• Entity update from ASP.NET MVC page with post to Edit action

  I have a form that posts back to /Edit/ and my action in controller looks like this: // // POST: /Client/Edit [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Edit(Client client) My form includes a subset of Client entity properties and I also include a hidden field that holds an ID of the client. The client entity itself is provided via the GET Edit action. Now I want to do entity update but so far I've only been trying without first loading the entity from the DB. Because the client object that comes in POST Edit has everything it needs. I want to update just those properties on the entity in datastore. So far I've tried with Context.Refresh() and AttachTo() but with no success - I'm getting all sorts of exceptions. I inspected the entity object as it comes from the web form and it looks fine (it does have an ID and entered data) mapped just fine. If I do it with Context.SaveChanges() then it just inserts new row..

• Disabled Checkboxes

  Hi, Hoping someone can assist or point me in the right direction to another thread/url with regards to disabled checkboxes. I basically have a couple of checkboxes in my form, that are not database items but am retrieving the source value based on a database column. As I do not want the user to be able to change these checboxes, I have disabled these checboxes When I query a record, the form at start-up retrieves the value for the checkbox with no issues. The problem is, when I hit a validation error on my form when the page is submitted, my checkbox values that were originally retrieved as 'Y', i.e checked are now null. Can anyone pls assist with what is going on or a workaround inorder to maintain these values when a validation error occurs. Thanks.

  UPDATE: My model going into the save method is PartialViewModel, which in the save method, is pushed into the index's ContactViewModel and sent back. This wasn't clear. I am playing around with MVC3, and have a contact controller with a SaveDetails action. The index cshtml has a partial with a form whose action is pointing to this controller. When I submit the form not having completed it fully, thereby firing the validation, the url now contains the SaveDetails action name (http://localhost:7401/Contact/SaveDetails). The form code is: @using (Html.BeginForm("SaveDetails", "Contact")) { ... } The controller action looks like this: public ActionResult SaveDetails(Models.PartialsViewModel pvm) { return View("Index", new ContactViewModel{ PartialsViewModel = pvm } ); } What am I doing wrong?

• Bring another processes Window to foreground when it has ShowInTaskbar = false

  We only want one instance of our app running at any one time. So on start up it looks to see if the app is running and if it is, it calls SetForegroundWindow on the Main Window. This is all good and well ... for the most part.. When our app starts up it will show a Splash screen and a Logon form. Both of these forms have ShowInTaskBar = false. Because of this, if you try to start up another copy of the app when the Logon form is showing, that Logon form is not brought to the front! Especially as the user cant see anything in the taskbar as well, all they figure is that the app is duff and cannot start. There is no indication that there is another instance running. Is there any way around this problem?

• In forms application, is there any Alternative to MsgBox?

  I like how MsgBox stops all further processing until it's clicked but I don't like how it pops that little msgbox in the middle of the screen, which I then have bring to the front if there is a window covering it. Is there a way to do something like a msgbox but keep it on my Form (which is always in view) so I can go ahead and click a button on the form instead of having to bring the little msgbox window on top of windows that may be covering it. I use the msgbox to inform me that a certain situation has happened, which I manually fix and when I'm done I click the MsgBox to continue processing. It'd be nice to have this button right on the form.

• Appending html code to a section inside a dialog window isn't working in IE6

  I'm using jQuery's validation on a form. When the form is validated, I'm using a submitHandler to fill a dialog with data from the form then I open the dialog to display it. Works great except for in IE6. Nothing displays. I've tried initializing the dialog before and after running the validation code but neither makes a difference. • Using a backwards relation (i.e FOO_set) for ModelChoiceField in Django

  I have a model called Movie, which has a ManyToManyField called director to a model called Person, and I'm trying to create a form with ModelChoiceField like so: class MovieSearchForm(forms.Form): producer = forms.ModelChoiceField(label='Produced by', queryset=movies.models.Person.producer_set, required=False) but this seems to be failing to compile (I'm getting a ViewDoesNotExist exception for the view that uses the form, but it goes away if I just replace the queryset with all the person objects), I'm guessing because '.producer_set' is being evaluated too 'early'. How can I get this work? here are the relevant parts of the movie/person classes: class Person(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=100) class Movie(models.Model): ... producer = models.ForeignKey(Person, related_name="producers") director = models.ForeignKey(Person, related_name="directors") What I'm trying to do is get ever Person who is used in the producer field of some Movie.

• need to upload multiple files each with different parameters

  I have a form in which there are total eight fields, name, address, age and 5 other file/photo upload fields such that at a time one upload field is visible.. Now here every time I upload a file i need to fill the "name, address and age" as well. at this point I dont want to submit the form, but I just want to save these values in any variable and get back to same form with information of previous file ready to be submitted, now again user can upload new file with new values in... and so on... as user is done with the 5 files he should not be allowed to upload more but he should be allowed to submit all the 5 files to DB along with there supporting fields.. How should I proceed further ...?

• Rendering a different controller and action while keeping errors

  I have a form in one controller(A) that renders a partial from another controller(B), and stays on A's edit page during editing / updating etc. However... When the partial form form controller B has an error, the error doesn't show up on A's edit page right now, if there is an error, I am doing (in controller B's update method) redirect_to :controller => "A", :action => "edit" and then this is built in... but I don't know what to do with it... the error needs to be sent to controller A... but.. it doesn't format.xml { render :xml => @varFromB.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } thanks

• Facebook page linking to external site sign-up process, capture permission to write to wall in process?

  Hi all, Have had a good hunt through the archive but can't find anyone trying to do this... hope someone familiar with the facebook API can confirm if it's possible? Basically I have a client who wants to replicate their membership sign up process in a tab on their facebook page. The form would still submit to their own website to process, we'd just be replicating the form fields. As an additional requirement they want to capture peoples facebook user ID and get permission to post back to a users wall at the same time... The idea being that once the user is a member we can post back to their wall so their friends see that they've signed up... Basically after a sanity check that: 1) these things are possible to do; 2) the best method to build the form in a FB page - I'm guessing using JS to create all fields & ajax to submit to the external site? • JQuery and PHP validation problem?

  I want to do the validation on my PHP side and then have my JQuery code display your changes have been saved when the submit button is clicked but the JQuery code states that the changes have been saved even when the validation fails. How can i fix this so that PHP can do the validation and then JQuery can do its thing when PHP has finished its validation?   I'm importing some XML to C#, and want to be able to access data from the XML in the form of what I think is a nested structure. (I may be wrong!) What I have in my XML is in the following form: <hardwareSettings initial="true> <cameraSettings width="1024" height="768" depth="8" /> <tiltSettings theta="35" rho="90"> </hardwareSettings> I can import each setting alright, so I have them all in individual ints, but I would like to be able to access it in the form int x=hardwaresettings.camerasettings.width; int rho=hardwaresettings.tiltsettings.rho; I've tried various arrangements of structs within structs, but I don't seem able to cast a new object (hardwaresettings) that contains the appropriate children (camerasettings.width & tiltsettings.rho). Sorry if I'm not using the right lingo... I'm reading myself in circles here!
