• Problem upgrading 11.04

  I've been trying to upgrade my ubuntu 11.04 desktop computer, but when I click on the ugrade button: I get this error: I've tryied to change my repositories, but it changes nothing in the error((on the "setting new software channel"). Can someone point me in the right direction? I've fooled with Google Notebook, MS Onenote, TreePad, textfiles, and Evernote a bit (currently leaning toward Evernote). All have pros and cons but none seem to be really suited to developers. Is anyone super-happy with a collection / note system that's not just generic GTD, but with developer-centric utility?

• How could it happen that version control software emerged so lately?

  According to Wikipedia (the table at the page bottom), the earliest known version control systems were CVS and TeamWare both known from year 1990. How can it be? Software development has been here from at most 1960's and I honestly can't imagine working with codebase without version control. • Port forwarding in C#/software possible? Isn't it only managed by the router?

  Isn't port forwarding managed by the router? Like, I've googled up some software applications that seem to port forward with great success, but it technically seems to be impossible. The packet must first go to the router. The router must forward it to the correct computer based on port forwarding rules. So how can a software application manage port forwarding if the packet must GO to the computer running this software application in the first place, meaning that port forwarding already is successful in the first place?

GPL and similar licenses are not non-commercial, but I don't want end up competing against software I wrote, so I can't use them. Are there non-commercial software licenses? Preferably some that are at least somewhat known. For know I thinking to use Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0. But Creative Commons don't recommend using their licenses for software, but using software specific licenses instead.

  I've seen some software (a Joomla component, to be exact) for sale on a web site. The web site says it is licensed under the GNU GPL2. However it also says you need to pay for every site you use the software on (with bulk discounts). I know it's perfectly acceptable to sell software under the GPL, however the license implies that the source code must be distributed at no cost. So is this a legitimate use of the GPL, or is it violating the license? Is it legal to download the software for free (say, from Bittorrent) and use it as I wish?
