  • How can I make Excel's MIN function ignore zeroes in a set?

    - by mfg
    In Excel, I have the following formula =(MIN(H69,H52,H35,H18)*(1/H18))*10 that is supposed to return the MIN of a range, and divide it by the current cell (*(1/H18) ), then multiply by 10. I am having difficulty with adding a type of NULLIF statement. I want to be able to have (the possibility for) blank rows, and have the MIN function ignore zero/blank fields while selecting the next lowest value (all are between 1.0-0.1). Is there a modifier i can apply to the MIN function to make it not compare zeroes in the MIN set? Is there a better funtion than MIN to use? This is to prevent the following situation: users will need to eliminate fields that are zeros from the form, theres 2 formula edits per entry, averaging 4 entries per use, so 8 possible errors per form use...

  • Is it possible to call a JavaScript function using an array of values as arguments ?

    - by Moshe Levine
    I'm looking for another way of doing the following: function call_any_function(func, parameters){ // func => any given function if(parameters.length==0){ func(); } if(parameters.length==1){ func(parameters[0]); } if(parameters.length==2){ func(parameters[0], parameters[1]); } if(parameters.length==3){ func(parameters[0], parameters[1], parameters[2]); } if(parameters.length==4){ func(parameters[0], parameters[1], parameters[2], parameters[3]); } // ... and so on }; It seems basic but I couldn't find an answer. Any ideas?

  • javascript robot

    hey guys! I need help making this robot game in javascript (notepad++) please HELP! The newGame, startLevel, and update functions should be your // first priority since they're all involved in displaying the initial state // of the game board. // // Next, work on putting together the control panel for the game so that you // can begin to interact with it. Your next goal should be to get the move // function working so that everything else can be testable. Note that all nine // of the movement buttons (including the pass button) should call the move // function when they are clicked, just with different parameters. // // All the remaining functions can be completed in pretty much any order, and // you'll see the game gradually improve as you write the functions. // // Just remember to keep your cool when writing this program. There are a // bunch of functions to write, but as long as you stay focused on the function // you're writing, each individual part is not that hard. // These variables specify the number of rows and columns in the game board. // Use these variables instead of hard coding the number of rows and columns // in your loops, etc. // i.e. Write: // for(i = 0; i < NUM_ROWS; i++) ... // not: // for(i = 0; i < 15; i++) ... var NUM_ROWS = 15; var NUM_COLS = 25; // Scene is arguably the most important variable in this whole program. It // should be set up as a two-dimensional array (with NUM_ROWS rows and // NUM_COLS columns). This represents the game board, with the scene[i][j] // representing what's in row i, column j. In particular, the entries should // be: // // "." for empty space // "R" for a robot // "S" for a scrap pile // "H" for the hero var scene; // These variables represent the row and column of the hero's location, // respectively. These are more of a conveniece so you don't have to search // for the "H" in the scene array when you need to know where the hero is. var heroRow; var heroCol; // These variables keep track of various aspects of the gameplay. // score is just the number of robots destroyed. // screwdrivers is the number of sonic screwdriver charges left. // fastTeleports is the number of fast teleports remaining. // level is the current level number. // Be sure to reset all of these when a new game starts, and update them at the // appropriate times. var score; var screwdrivers; var fastTeleports; var level; // This function should use a sonic screwdriver if there are still charges // left. The sonic screwdriver turns any robot that is in one of the eight // squares immediately adjacent to the hero into scrap. If there are no charges // left, then this function should instead pop up a dialog box with the message // "Out of sonic screwdrivers!". As with any function that alters the game's // state, this function should call the update function when it has finished. // // Your "Sonic Screwdriver" button should call this function directly. function screwdriver() { // WRITE THIS FUNCTION } // This function should move the hero to a randomly selected location if there // are still fast teleports left. This function MUST NOT move the hero on to // a square that is already occupied by a robot or a scrap pile, although it // can move the hero next to a robot. The number of fast teleports should also // be decreased by one. If there are no fast teleports left, this function // should just pop up a message box saying so. • How can you write a function that accepts multiple types?

    - by matthy
    I have a function that should work on int[] and on String[] now i have made the same function with a int parameter and an String parameter however if it has to go this way its a bit copy paste work and doesn't look very organized is there a way to solve this and put these 4 functions in 2? static public void print(String s) { System.out.println(s); } static public void print(int s) { System.out.println(s); } static public void printArray(String[] s) { for (int i=0; i<s.length; i++) print(s[i]); } static public void printArray(int[] s) { for (int i=0; i<s.length; i++) print(s[i]); } Thanks Matthy

  • elisp newbie question: Can't find 'filename' function definition in org.el?

    - by Dave Paroulek
    I really love org-mode in emacs and want to customize a few things. While reading thru org.el, I'm finding several references to filename but can't find filename using describe-function? I'm sure there's a simple answer, but I'm just learning elisp and it's not obvious. Any insight into where filename is defined? And/or if it's not a function, what is it? For example, filename on line 25502: (filename (if to-buffer (expand-file-name (concat (file-name-sans-extension (or (and subtree-p (org-entry-get (region-beginning) "EXPORT_FILE_NAME" t)) (file-name-nondirectory buffer-file-name))) "." html-extension) (file-name-as-directory (or pub-dir (org-export-directory :html opt-plist))))))

  • What are the precise rules/PHP function for encoding strings into POST arrays?

    - by AlexeyMK
    Greetings, Just getting into PHP web development. I've got an HTML form where a user checks some series of dynamically-generated checkboxes, and submits via POST. On the PHP side, I want to check which of the check-boxes were clicked. I have an array $full_list, and am doing something like $selected_checkboxes = array_filter($full_list, function($item) { array_key_exists($item, $_POST); } I run into problems when a list item is named, for example "Peanut Butter", since in the POST array it is named "Peanut_Butter". I could certainly just str_replace " " with "_" before checking array_key_exists, but I imagine that there is a more fundamental encoding problem here; specifically, I'm not sure of exactly what layer transforms normal strings in HTML Forms (value="Peanut Butter") into "Peanut_Butter". So: what layer is responsible for this conversion? Is it the browser? what are the exact conversion rules, and is there a PHP function out there that will replicate that exact conversion? Thanks!

  • control panel date&time is considered while using "new date()" javascript function.

    - by Rupa
    Hi, I am getting a client date in javscript function using "new date()" object. But this object is considering the properties set for Date&Time control in the control panel of the system. For example, If I check the check box of Date&Time control of the system (control panel) "Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes", then I am getting the date(from javscript) according to the Daylight savings time and if I uncheck it, I am getting the date according to the standard time. What I need is to get the date from a Javscript function irrespective of the Date&Time control of the control panel. Thanks Rupa.

  • Fatal error: Function name must be a string in.. PHP error

    - by Jonesy
    Hi I have a class called User and a method called insertUser(). function insertUser($first_name, $last_name, $user_name, $password, $email_address, $group_house_id) { $first_name = mysql_real_escape_string($first_name); $last_name = mysql_real_escape_string($last_name); $user_name = mysql_real_escape_string($user_name); $password = mysql_real_escape_string($password); $email_address = mysql_real_escape_string($email_address); $query = "INSERT INTO Users (FirstName,LastName,UserName,Password,EmailAddress, GroupHouseID) VALUES ('$first_name','$last_name','$user_name','$password','$email_address','$group_house_id')"; $mysql_query($query); } And I call it like this: $newUser = new User(); $newUser->insertUser($first_name, $last_name, $user_name, $email, $password, $group_house_id); When I run the code I get this error: Fatal error: Function name must be a string in /Library/WebServer/Documents/ORIOnline/includes/class_lib.php on line 33 Anyone know what I am doing wronly? Also, this is my first attempt at OO PHP. Cheers, Jonesy

  • php - Can I integrate functions with same content, different names?

    - by Gal
    I have a couple of functions inside a class that essentially do the same thing: public function fn_a(){ return __FUNCTION__; } public function fn_b(){ return __FUNCTION__; } public function fn_c(){ return __FUNCTION__; } I need those functions to remain in their current names so I intentionally did not do: public function fn_($letter){ return __FUNCTION__.$letter; } I was hoping for some sort of way to minify the verboseness of code here, since they all do the same. The ultimate situation would be something like this: public functions fn_a, fn_b, fn_c() { return __FUNCTION__; } Another solution, if applicable, might be doing something like Class's "extends": fn_b, fn_c extend fn_a? What do you think guys?

  • Making all links inside of a div call the same function?

    - by Brandon
    I'm trying to make a notification area that will show alerts. return this.each(function() { jQuery('<div class="' + o['className'] + '">' + o.msg + ' + '<a href="#" onclick="$(this).parent().remove(); dismiss(' + o["id"] + ');">X</a>' + '</div>') .appendTo(this); }); This just takes a message pulled from the database, and shows it to the user. If the user clicks the X then it will call dismiss() which will mark it as being read in the database. The thing is, if the message itself contains a link to another page or external site, I also want to call dismiss() before the user leaves the page. Is there anyway to alter this javascript to take all a elements (the X and any links that would appear in the message) and change the onclick to call the function?

  • How do I pass a parameter from the select list into a function for joining a linq query?

    - by Ryan ONeill
    I have a query that can be summarised in SQL as follows; Select S.StockCode From StockToCheck As S Inner Join GetPOSStock(S.StockCode) As C On S.StockCode = C.StockCode; I'm trying to do the same in Linq but it seems I cannot pass a parameter to the function I am joining on as it has not been parsed by Linq. I imagine it would look like this (vb); Dim x = From S In StockToCheck Join C In GetPOSStock(S) On S Equals C.ProductCode Where the S var is a list of strings. This gives the error 'S' is not declared and points to the S in the function call / join (GetPOSStock). So it does not seem possible to do this in Linq, can anyone confirm? Thanks in advance Ryan

  • Why C++ virtual function defined in header may not be compiled and linked in vtable?

    - by 0xDEAD BEEF
    Situation is following. I have shared library, which contains class definition - QueueClass : IClassInterface { virtual void LOL() { do some magic} } My shared library initialize class member QueueClass *globalMember = new QueueClass(); My share library export C function which returns pointer to globalMember - void * getGlobalMember(void) { return globalMember;} My application uses globalMember like this ((IClassInterface*)getGlobalMember())->LOL(); Now the very uber stuff - if i do not reference LOL from shared library, then LOL is not linked in and calling it from application raises exception. Reason - VTABLE contains nul in place of pointer to LOL() function. When i move LOL() definition from .h file to .cpp, suddenly it appears in VTABLE and everything works just great. What explains this behavior?! (gcc compiler + ARM architecture_)

  • Is it a good idea to return " const char * " from a function?

    - by AJ
    Now I have a function that has to return a string. I saw a particular implementation where he returns a const char * from the function. Something like this: const char * GetSomeString() { ........ return somestlstring.c_str(); } SomeOtherFoo () { const char * tmp = GetSomeString(); string s = tmp; } Now I felt there is something potentially wrong with this. Is my gut feel right? or Is this a perfectly safe code? Kindly give me ur suggestions. I have a feeling return const char * this way might result in havoc.. Thanks, Arjun

  • Oracle aggregate function to return a random value for a group?

    - by tpdi
    The standard SQL aggregate function max() will return the highest value in a group; min() will return the lowest. Is there an aggregate function in Oracle to return a random value from a group? Or some technique to achieve this? E.g., given the table foo: group_id value 1 1 1 5 1 9 2 2 2 4 2 8 The SQL query select group_id, max(value), min(value), some_aggregate_random_func(value) from foo group by group_id; might produce: group_id max(value), min(value), some_aggregate_random_func(value) 1 9 1 1 2 8 2 4 with, obviously, the last column being any random value in that group.

  • Split string on non-alphanumerics in PHP? Is it possible with php's native function?

    - by Jehanzeb.Malik
    I was trying to split a string on non-alphanumeric characters or simple put I want to split words. The approach that immediately came to my mind is to use regular expressions. Example: $string = 'php_php-php php'; $splitArr = preg_split('/[^a-z0-9]/i', $string); But there are two problems that I see with this approach. It is not a native php function, and is totally dependent on the PCRE Library running on server. An equally important problem is that what if I have punctuation in a word Example: $string = 'U.S.A-men's-vote'; $splitArr = preg_split('/[^a-z0-9]/i', $string); Now this will spilt the string as [{U}{S}{A}{men}{s}{vote}] But I want it as [{U.S.A}{men's}{vote}] So my question is that: How can we split them according to words? Is there a possibility to do it with php native function or in some other way where we are not dependent? Regards

  • MODX parse error function implode (is it me or modx?)

    - by Ian
    Hi, I cannot for the life of me figure this out, maybe someone can help. Using MODX a form takes user criteria to create a filter and return a list of documents. The form is one text field and a few checkboxes. If both text field and checkbox data is posted, the function works fine; if just the checkbox data is posted the function works fine; but if just the text field data is posted, modx gives me the following error: Error: implode() [function.implode]: Invalid arguments passed. I've tested this outside of modx with flat files and it all works fine leading me to assume a bug exists within modx. But I'm not convinced. Here's my code: <?php $order = array('price ASC'); //default sort order if(!empty($_POST['tour_finder_duration'])){ //duration submitted $days = htmlentities($_POST['tour_finder_duration']); //clean up post array_unshift($order,"duration DESC"); //add duration sort before default $filter[] = 'duration,'.$days.',4'; //add duration to filter[] (field,criterion,mode) $criteria[] = 'Number of days: <strong>'.$days.'</strong>'; //displayed on results page } if(!empty($_POST['tour_finder_dests'])){ //destination/s submitted $dests = $_POST['tour_finder_dests']; foreach($dests as $value){ //iterate through dests array $filter[] = 'searchDests,'.htmlentities($value).',7'; //add dests to filter[] $params['docid'] = $value; $params['field'] = 'pagetitle'; $pagetitle = $modx->runSnippet('GetField',$params); $dests_array[] = '<a href="[~'.$value.'~]" title="Read more about '.$pagetitle.'" class="tourdestlink">'.$pagetitle.'</a>'; } $dests_array = implode(', ',$dests_array); $criteria[] = 'Destinations: '.$dests_array; //displayed on results page } if(is_array($filter)){ $filter = implode('|',$filter);//pipe-separated string } if(is_array($order)){ $order = implode(',',$order);//comma-separated string } if(is_array($criteria)){ $criteria = implode('<br />',$criteria); } echo '<br />Order: '.$order.'<br /> Filter: '.$filter.'<br /> Criteria: '.$criteria; //next: extract docs using $filter and $order, display user's criteria using $criteria... ?> The echo statement is displayed above the MODX error message and the $filter array is correctly imploded. Any help will save my computer from flying out the window. Thanks

  • How can I change the value or a static char* from a function? C++

    - by flyout
    I am trying to change the value of a "static char *" I define at startup, I do it from inside a function, and when this function returns the var I am trying to re-set the value doesn't retain it. Example: static char *X = "test_1"; void testFunc() { char buf[256]; // fill buf with stuff... X = buf; } How can I achieve this without using static for buf? Should I use another datatype? if so, which one?

  • Function to get X, Y position of an object orbiting a point, given a distance and angle in radians?

    - by Jake Petroules
    I am trying to code a function for a camera that orbits a point. Assume a 3d coordinate plane where Z is up. Ignore Z. Let's say the camera's position starts at (0, 0, z). The object to orbit is at, say (50, 50, z). So we have a distance of ~70 units. Calling the function with {(50, 50, z), 70, x} where x is the position in orbit, in radians, should return where the position of the camera should be. I believe this involves cos and tan but my trig isn't that great... point3d getCameraPosition(point3d objectPosition, float distance, float rotationRadians) { // ??? }
