  • HttpWebRequest: How to find a postal code at Canada Post through a WebRequest with x-www-form-enclos

    - by Will Marcouiller
    I'm currently writing some tests so that I may improve my skills with the Internet interaction through Windows Forms. One of those tests is to find a postal code which should be returned by Canada Post website. My default URL setting is set to: http://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/fpc/personal/findByCity?execution=e4s1 The required form fields are: streetNumber, streetName, city, province The contentType is "application/x-www-form-enclosed" EDIT: Please consider the value "application/x-www-form-encoded" instead of point 3 value as the contentType. (Thanks EricLaw-MSFT!) The result I get is not the result expected. I get the HTML source code of the page where I could manually enter the information to find the postal code, but not the HTML source code with the found postal code. Any idea of what I'm doing wrong? Shall I consider going the XML way? Is it first of all possible to search on Canada Post anonymously? Here's a code sample for better description: public static string FindPostalCode(ICanadadianAddress address) { var postData = string.Concat(string.Format("&streetNumber={0}", address.StreetNumber) , string.Format("&streetName={0}", address.StreetName) , string.Format("&city={0}", address.City) , string.Format("&province={0}", address.Province)); var encoding = new ASCIIEncoding(); byte[] postDataBytes = encoding.GetBytes(postData); request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(DefaultUrlSettings); request.ImpersonationLevel = System.Security.Principal.TokenImpersonationLevel.Anonymous; request.Container = new CookieContainer(); request.Timeout = 10000; request.ContentType = contentType; request.ContentLength = postDataBytes.LongLength; request.Method = @"post"; var senderStream = new StreamWriter(request.GetRequestStream()); senderStream.Write(postDataBytes, 0, postDataBytes.Length); senderStream.Close(); string htmlResponse = new StreamReader(request.GetResponse().GetResponseStream()).ReadToEnd(); return processedResult(htmlResponse); // Processing the HTML source code parsing, etc. } I seem stuck in a bottle neck in my point of view. I find no way out to the desired result. EDIT: There seems to have to parameters as for the ContentType of this site. Let me explain. There's one with the "meta"-variables which stipulates the following: meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="application/xhtml+xml, text/xml, text/html; charset=utf-8" And another one later down the code that is read as: form id="fpcByAdvancedSearch:fpcSearch" name="fpcByAdvancedSearch:fpcSearch" method="post" action="/cpotools/apps/fpc/personal/findByCity?execution=e1s1" enctype="application/x-www-form-urlencoded" My question is the following: With which one do I have to stick? Let me guess, the first ContentType is to be considered as the second is only for another request to a function or so when the data is posted? EDIT: As per request, the closer to the solution I am is listed under this question: WebRequest: How to find a postal code using a WebRequest against this ContentType=”application/xhtml+xml, text/xml, text/html; charset=utf-8”? Thanks for any help! :-)

  • Why are these divs not aligned and space between?

    - by acidzombie24
    Why isnt everything aligned? No yellow should be visible and no orange should be visible except for the right side and bottom left where theres space for another image. Basically my images are pretty much aligned to the center (i have other pics not in this example which is easier to see). However in this case when i have 150px height image the 150 width seems start lower. Also why are there spaces in between <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <title>ldfk;sd</title> <style type="text/css"> div.ImgGallery { max-width: 630px; background: orange; } .ImgGallery div { display: inline; } /* http://www.brunildo.org/test/img_center.html */ .ImgGallery div div { display: table-cell; text-align: center; background: gray; width: 150px; height: 150px; } .ImgGallery div{ background: yellow; vertical-align: middle; } //.ImgGallery div div :nth-child(2n+1) { background: red; } .ImgGallery * { vertical-align: middle; } .ImgGallery a { display: block; } .ImgGallery a * { border-style: none; } </style> </head> <div class="smallGallery"> <div class="ImgGallery"> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="b.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="b.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> </div></div> </body></html>

  • Greasemonkey script for inserting math in gmail

    - by Elazar Leibovich
    I wish an easy way to communicate mathematical equations with gmail. There's a javascript script called AsciiMath, which should translate Tex-like equations into standard mathML. I thought that it would be nice to use this script with GM. I thought that before sending the email, this script would convert all the TeX-like equations in your email to MathML. Thus the reader which is using FF (or IE with MathPlayer installed) would be able to easily read those equations. Ideally, I wish to somehow keep the original TeX-like equations in a plain-text message, so that it would be readable by plain text email clients, such as mutt. Obviously the weakest link here is the client software, which most likely doesn't support MathML. Still if my correspondent is using Firefox and some kind of webmail (which is pretty reasonable) - it should work. My question is, is it possible? Did anyone do that? Do you see any technical problems with this approach (gmail filtering the MathML, client not parsing it correctly etc.)? Any smarter ideas?

  • How do I effectively fake a div's background color using an image in the body element?

    - by janoChen
    I want to get something like the following: The dark grey is the sidebar but I want to apply that color into the body element as an image which repeats itself vertically but at the same time doesn't cover the footer (light gray). (this is the easiest way I found to stretch the color (dark gray) until the bottom.) Part of my CSS: body { color: #888; font-family: Arial, "MS Trebuchet", sans-serif; font-size: 75% } .container { margin: 0 auto; overflow: hidden; padding: 0 15px; width: 960px; } /* header */ #header { background: #444; } /* banner */ #header-top { overflow: hidden; height: 77px; width: 960px; /* ie6 hack */ } #lang { float: right; padding: 50px 0 0 0; } /* work */ #content { background: #EEE; } #content a { border-bottom: 0; } #mainbar { overflow: hidden; margin: 0 10px 0 0; width: 644; float: left; } #sidebar { background: #DDD; color: #777; overflow: hidden; margin: 20px 0 10px 0; padding: 15px; width: 240px; float: right; } #sidebar h3 { color: #888; } #about { margin: 0 0 20px; } /* footer */ #footer { color: #777; background: #DDD; clear: both; } /* contact */ #footer-top { line-height: 160%; overflow: hidden; padding: 30px 0; width: 960px; /* ie6 hack */ } #footer-bottom { font-size: 10px; margin: 15px auto; } Part of my HTML: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7"/> <title>Alex Chen - Web Development, Graphic Design, and Translation</title> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="styles/global.css" /> </head> <body id="home"> <div id="header"> <div class="container"> <div id="header-top"> </div> </div><!-- .container --> </div><!-- #header --> <div id="content"> <div class="container"> <div id="mainbar"> </div> <!-- #mainbar--> <div id=sidebar> </div> <!-- #sidebar --> </div><!-- .container --> </div><!-- #content --> <div id="footer"> <div class="container"> <div id="footer-top"> </div><!-- #footer-top --> <div id="footer-bottom"> </div> </div><!-- .container --> </div><!-- #footer --> </body> </html>

  • Why wont this JS code work if its all on the same line?

    - by culov
    I'm writing HTML code for a java servlet. i first write the code in html/js so i can debug what im working on, and then ill make it a java string and put it in my servlet. My problem is that the code is working fine when i view it in ff from a local html file, but when i view it on my java servlet, it doesnt work because the js isnt getting called. what I did was format the html that my servlet generated so that its not all on a single line and ran the code again. This time it worked. I copied this working code into a browser address bar so that it will all be on a single line, and copied that code back into the script in my html file. Now, when the previously working code is on a single line, it doesnt work. Here's the formatted JS: var sMax var holder; var preSet; var rated; var request; function rating(num){ sMax = 0; for(n=0; n<num.parentNode.childNodes.length; n++){ if(num.parentNode.childNodes[n].nodeName == "A"){ sMax++; } } if(!rated){ s = num.id.replace("_", ''); a = 0; for(i=1; i<=sMax; i++){ if(i<=s){ document.getElementById("_"+i).className = "on"; document.getElementById("rateStatus").innerHTML = num.title; holder = a+1; a++; }else{ document.getElementById("_"+i).className = ""; } } } } function off(me){ if(!rated){ if(!preSet){ for(i=1; i<=sMax; i++){ document.getElementById("_"+i).className = ""; document.getElementById("rateStatus").innerHTML = me.parentNode.title; } }else{ rating(preSet); document.getElementById("rateStatus").innerHTML = document.getElementById("ratingSaved").innerHTML; } } } function rateIt(me){ if(!rated){ document.getElementById("rateStatus").innerHTML = document.getElementById("ratingSaved").innerHTML + " "+me.title; preSet = me; rated=1; sendRate(me); rating(me); } } function sendRate(sel){ alert("Your rating was: "+sel.title); addRating("rating", "?truck=kogibbq?rating="+ sel.id); } function addRating(servletName, servletArguments){ var servlet = servletName; var arg = servletArguments var req = servlet + arg; alert(req); addrequest(req); request.onreadystatechange = function(){ alert("response received"); } } function addrequest(req) { try { request = new XMLHttpRequest(); }catch (e) { try { request = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); }catch (e) { alert("XMLHttpRequest error: " + e); } } request.open("GET", element, true); request.send(null); return request; } Thanks.

  • Python - Open default mail client using mailto, with multiple recipients

    - by victorhooi
    Hi, I'm attempting to write a Python function to send an email to a list of users, using the default installed mail client. I want to open the email client, and give the user the opportunity to edit the list of users or the email body. I did some searching, and according to here: http://www.sightspecific.com/~mosh/WWW_FAQ/multrec.html It's apparently against the RFC spec to put multiple comma-delimited recipients in a mailto link. However, that's the way everybody else seems to be doing it. What exactly is the modern stance on this? Anyhow, I found the following two sites: http://2ality.blogspot.com/2009/02/generate-emails-with-mailto-urls-and.html http://www.megasolutions.net/python/invoke-users-standard-mail-client-64348.aspx which seem to suggest solutions using urllib.parse (url.parse.quote for me), and webbrowser.open. I tried the sample code from the first link (2ality.blogspot.com), and that worked fine, and opened my default mail client. However, when I try to use the code in my own module, it seems to open up my default browser, for some weird reason. No funny text in the address bar, it just opens up the browser. The email_incorrect_phone_numbers() function is in the Employees class, which contains a dictionary (employee_dict) of Employee objects, which themselves have a number of employee attributes (sn, givenName, mail etc.). Full code is actually here (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2963975/python-converting-csv-to-objects-code-design) from urllib.parse import quote import webbrowser .... def email_incorrect_phone_numbers(self): email_list = [] for employee in self.employee_dict.values(): if not PhoneNumberFormats.standard_format.search(employee.telephoneNumber): print(employee.telephoneNumber, employee.sn, employee.givenName, employee.mail) email_list.append(employee.mail) recipients = ', '.join(email_list) webbrowser.open("mailto:%s?subject=%s&body=%s" % (recipients, quote("testing"), quote('testing')) ) Any suggestions? Cheers, Victor

  • Sanitizing user input that will later be e-mailed - what should I be worried about?

    - by Kevin Burke
    I'm interning for an NGO in India (Seva Mandir, http://sevamandir.org) and trying to fix their broken "subscribe to newsletter" box. Because the staff isn't very sophisticated and our web host isn't great, I decided to send the relevant data to the publications person via mail() instead of storing it in a MySQL database. I know that it's best to treat user input as malicious, and I've searched the SO forums for posts relevant to escaping user data for sending in a mail message. I know the data should be escaped; what should I be worried about and what's the best way to sanitize the input before emailing it? Form flow: 1. User enters email on homepage and clicks Submit 2. User enters name, address, more information on second page (bad usability, I know, but my boss asked me to) and clicks "Submit" 3. Collect the data via $_POST and email it to the publications editor (and possibly send a confirmation to the subscriber). I am going to sanitize the email in step 2 and the other data in step 3. I appreciate your help, Kevin

  • jQuery: Div elements are not showing up

    - by Legend
    I am adapting the Coverflow technique to work with a div. Following is the html: <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <style type="text/css" media="screen"> body,html { margin: 0; padding: 0; background: #000; height: 100%; color: #eee; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10px; } div.magnifyme { height: 80px; padding: 80px; position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 8000px; } div.wrapper { margin: 0px; height: 470px; /*border: 2px solid #999;*/ overflow: hidden; padding-left: 40px; right: 1px; width: 824px; position: relative; } div.container {position: relative; width: 854px; height: 480px; background: #000; margin: auto;} div.nav {position: absolute; top: 10px; width: 20%; height: 10%; right: 1px; } div.magnifyme div { position: absolute; width: 300px; height: 280px; float: left; margin: 5px; position: relative; border: 2px solid #999; background: #500; } </style> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.3.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="ui.coverflow.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $("div.magnifyme").coverflow(); $("#add").click(function() { location.reload(); $(".magnifyme").append("<div id=\"div5\">hello world</div>"); $("div.magnifyme").coverflow(); }); }); </script> </head> <body> <div class="container"> <div class="wrapper"> <div class="magnifyme"> <div id="div0">This is div 0</div> <div id="div1">This is div 1</div> <div id="div2">This is div 2</div> <div id="div3">This is div 3</div> <div id="div4">This is div 4</div> </div> </div> <div class="nav"> <button type="button" id="add">Add to Deck</button> </div> </div> </body> </html> The coverflow function (included as a js file in the head section) is here. When I click the button, I was expecting it to add a DIV to the already present deck. For some reason, it doesn't show the newly added DIV. I tried calling the coverflow() function after I added the new element but that didn't work either. Is there any way I can make this work?

    There are many suggestions here and there for storing e-mail messages. Somehow what I am doing is writing an Outlook addin to send emails from inbox/sent folders directly to my application. So only what is really interesting is saved. And I decide where to save it. Imagine this case: I recieve an email from a customer. It's up to me to decide whether I should save it on the customer or on the order 24 that that customer did. So this is why I am doing the add in, and not some automatic storing of emails = noise after some time. This said, how to store the emails? For the emails that I recieve or send through Outlook the idea could be save the whole file in a blob field (so the eml file), may be I can save also other info (like the subject) in another text field. But the problem comes when I write an email from my application. In this case I am not generating an eml file, I send through MAPI data to Outlook to compose an email that I will send with Outlook (so in this case I cannot save the eml), or I directly send it with Indy. Also in this case I don't have the eml file... One idea could be that the all the emails that I auto compose have a special flag that the Add in recognises and therefore when I send the mail it is stored back to the DB. So in this case I can save the eml also of the mails I sent from my application. May you comment?

  • Select dropdown with fixed width cutting off content in IE

    - by aaandre
    The issue: Some of the items in the select require more than the specified width of 145px in order to display fully. Firefox behavior: clicking on the select reveals the dropdown elements list adjusted to the width of the longest element. IE6 & IE7 behavior: clicking on the select reveals the dropdown elements list restricted to 145px width making it impossible to read the longer elements. The current UI requires us to fit this dropdown in 145px and have it host items with longer descriptions. Any advise on resolving the issue with IE? The top element should remain 145px wide even when the list is expanded. Thank you! The css: select.center_pull { background:#eeeeee none repeat scroll 0 0; border:1px solid #7E7E7E; color:#333333; font-size:12px; margin-bottom:4px; margin-right:4px; margin-top:4px; width:145px; } Here's the select input code (there's no definition for the backend_dropbox style at this time) <select id="select_1" class="center_pull backend_dropbox" name="select_1"> <option value="-1" selected="selected">Browse options</option> <option value="-1">------------------------------------</option> <option value="224">Option 1</option> <option value="234">Longer title for option 2</option> <option value="242">Very long and extensively descriptive title for option 3</option> </select> Full html page in case you want to quickly test in a browser: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>dropdown test</title> <style type="text/css"> <!-- select.center_pull { background:#eeeeee none repeat scroll 0 0; border:1px solid #7E7E7E; color:#333333; font-size:12px; margin-bottom:4px; margin-right:4px; margin-top:4px; width:145px; } --> </style> </head> <body> <p>Select width test</p> <form id="form1" name="form1" method="post" action=""> <select id="select_1" class="center_pull backend_dropbox" name="select_1"> <option value="-1" selected="selected">Browse options</option> <option value="-1">------------------------------------</option> <option value="224">Option 1</option> <option value="234">Longer title for option 2</option> <option value="242">Very long and extensively descriptive title for option 3</option> </select> </form> </body> </html>

  • IE7 rendering bug: Heading before a floated list

    - by Tomalak
    Can somebody please explain this IE7 bug to me? It occurs in Standards and Quirks mode rendering, it does not occur in Firefox, Chrome or IE8 (though switching the rendering engine via IE8 developer tools will provoke it). Here's the HTML to reproduce the behavior: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>Test</title> <style type="text/css"> /* h1 { margin: 0px; } */ ul { padding: 0; margin: 0; list-style-type: none; } ul li { float: left; width: 140px; padding: 3px; } div { clear: left; padding: 3px; } div, li { background-color: OrangeRed; } /* ul { border: 1px solid blue; } */ </style> </head> <body> <h1>Heading 1</h1> <ul class="t"> <li>bla 1</li><li>bla 2</li><li>bla 3</li> </ul> <div>yada</div> </body> </html> This renders a floated <ul> above a <div> (supposed to be a tabbed user interface). There's an unexplained gap between the <div> and the <ul>. Now do one of the following: Uncomment the CSS rule for <h1>. The gap disappears and the list is rendered tight to the <div>, but also very close to the <h1>. Alternatively, uncomment the CSS rule for <ul>. Now a narrow blue border is rendered above the <ul>, but the gap disappears. My questions: How can the <h1> margin (I suppose any block level element with a defined margin will do) affect the space below the list? Can I prevent this from happening without having to set header margins to 0 or messing with the <ul> borders (setting border-width: 0; does not work BTW)? I suppose it is connected to the <ul> having no width because it has only floated children. Maybe someone with more insight into IE7 peculiarities than I have can explain what the rendering engine is doing here. Thanks!

  • Sidebar with CSS3 transform

    - by Malcoda
    Goal I'm working on a collapsible sidebar using jQuery for animation. I would like to have vertical text on the sidebar that acts as a label and can swap on the animateOut/animateIn effect. Normally I would use an image of the text that I've simply swapped vertically, and switch it out on animation, but with CSS3 transforms I'd like to get it to work instead. Problem The problem I'm facing is that setting the height on my rotated container makes it expand horizontally (as it's rotated 90deg) so that doesn't work. I then tried to set the width (hoping it would expand vertically, acting as height), but that has an odd effect of causing the width of my parent container to expand as well. Fix? Anyone know why this happens and also what the fix/workaround could be without setting max-widths and overflow: hidden? I've got a fairly good understanding of both html elements behavior and css3, but this is stumping me. Live Example Here's a fiddle that demonstrates my problem: Fiddle The collapse-pane class is what I have rotated and contains the span I have my text inside. You'll notice it has a width set, that widens the border, but also affects the parent container. The code: CSS: .right-panel{ position:fixed; right:0; top:0; bottom:0; border:1px solid #ccc; background-color:#efefef; } .collapse-pane{ margin-top:50px; width:30px; border:1px solid #999; cursor:pointer; /* Safari */ -webkit-transform: rotate(-90deg); /* Firefox */ -moz-transform: rotate(-90deg); /* IE */ -ms-transform: rotate(-90deg); /* Opera */ -o-transform: rotate(-90deg); /* Internet Explorer */ filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.BasicImage(rotation=3); } .collapse-pane span{ padding:5px; } HTML <div class="right-panel"> <div class="collapse-pane"> <span class="expand">Expand</span> </div> <div style="width:0;" class="panel-body"> <div style="display:none;" class="panel-body-inner"> adsfasdfasdf </div> </div> </div> JavaScript (Thought not really relevant) $(document).ready(function(){ var height = $(".right-panel").height(); $(".collapse-pane").css({marginTop: height/2 - 20}); $('.collapse-pane').click(function(){ if($(".collapse-pane span").html() == "Expand"){ $(".panel-body").animate({width:200}, 400); $(".panel-body-inner").fadeIn(500); $(".collapse-pane span").html("Collapse"); }else{ $(".panel-body").animate({width:00}, 400); $(".panel-body-inner").fadeOut(300); $(".collapse-pane span").html("Expand"); } }); }); I hope this was clear... Thanks for any help!

  • Does anyone get zero-height select fields in Firefox 3.6.3?

    - by user350635
    If you open this HTML in Firefox 3.6.3 (confirmed in some earlier versions too), and click the drawStuff() link repeatedly, it doesn't render the contents of the last div consistently. Looking more closely it seems like it's rendering select fields with height=0. Any idea why this would happen? <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <title> A Page </title> <script type="text/javascript"> function drawStuff() { for (var i = 1; i <= 5; i++) { var curHtmlArr = []; for (var j = 0; j < 5; j++){ curHtmlArr.push("<select>"); curHtmlArr.push(getOptgroup()); curHtmlArr.push(getOptgroup()); curHtmlArr.push(getOptgroup()); curHtmlArr.push("<\/select>"); } var foobar = document.getElementById('elem_' + i); foobar.innerHTML = curHtmlArr.join(''); } } function getOptgroup(){ var htmlArr = []; htmlArr.push('<optgroup label="Whatever">'); for (var ii = 0; ii < 32; ii++){ htmlArr.push(' <option value="' + ii + '"> Blah ' + "<\/option>"); } htmlArr.push("<\/optgroup>"); return htmlArr.join(''); } </script> </head> <body> <table border=1 style="width:900px;" summary="A Table"> <tr> <td> <div id="elem_1"></div> </td> <td> <div id="elem_2"></div> </td> <td> <div id="elem_3"></div> </td> <td> <div id="elem_4"></div> </td> <td> <div>abc</div> <div id="elem_5"></div> </td> </tr> </table> <a href="javascript:drawStuff()"> drawStuff() </a> <script type="text/javascript"> drawStuff(); </script> </body> </html>

  • Configure Postfix to send/relay emails Gmail (smtp.gmail.com) via port 587

    - by tom smith
    Hi. Using Centos 5.4, with Postfix. I can do a mail [email protected] subject: blah test . Cc: and the msg gets sent to gmail, but it resides in the spam folder, which is to be expected. My goal is to be able to generate email msgs, and to have them appear in the regular Inbox! As I understand Postfix/Gmail, it's possible to configure Postfix to send/relay mail via the authenticated/valid user using port 587, which would no longer have the mail be seen as spam. I've tried a number of parameters based on different sites/articles from the 'net, with no luck. Some of the articles, actually seem to conflict with other articles! I've also looked over the stacflow postings on this, but i'm still missing something... Also talked to a few people on IRC (Centos/Postfix) and still have questions.. So, i'm turning to Serverfault, once again! If there's someone who's managed to accomplish this, would you mind posting your main.cf, sasl-passwd, and any other conf files that you use to get this working! If I can review your config files, I can hopefully see where I've screwed up, and figure out how to correct the issue. Thanks for reading this, and any help/pointers you provide! ps, If there is a stackflow posting that speaks to this that I may have missed, feel free to point it out to me! -tom

  • Cisco Spam Blocker, Iron Port, Lotus Domino, Integration Help

    - by NickToyota
    Hi serverfault universe, I work for a medium sized (roughly 200 user) company. We are attempting to intagrate our new Cisco Spam Video Blocker (ironport) device into our network so that it acts as an incoming filter then passes it off to our Lotus domino mail server. And also vise versa. The way our network is setup currently has an mx record pointing to our Domino mail SMTP incoming server which is currently setup to be an inbound gateway and filter (using symantec domino mail software). We want to replace the inbound gateway with the ironport. Our company has also invested in a pool of external IP addresses which I believe has been currently assigned to our web, email, servers. What would the proper course of action be to successfully integrate the device be? Mx record change? Replace the domino gateway completely with the ironport? We attempted to set the ironport device to the external IP of what our mx record is pointing to without much success. Any help on proper setup would be greatly appreciated.

  • IMAP proxy as a POP3 hub?

    - by mailman stan
    Simple scenario, complicated technology: One family receiving mail from five email addresses via POP3 into one Outlook inbox on a single PC. Now we'd like to be able to replicate that single inbox across multiple devices (eg. desktop PC, laptop, netbook, smartphone). If we continue using POP3 as the mail transfer protocol, messages will be downloaded to one device and will not be visible to the others; replies will likewise be isolated on the sending machine. If we switch to IMAP, I understand that we can have multiple devices maintaining a shared view of an inbox hosted at the server end, but what about multiple accounts? I tried changing the account configuration in Outlook to fetch from the mail providers' IMAP service instead of POP3, which does give a shared view across multiple devices but also causes Outlook to create a separate inbox and PST for each account. This is awkward because it means there are five separate folders that need to be checked, and Outlook tools like search filters and rules don't seem to work across accounts. To get what I want (five accounts delivered into one shared mailbox) it seems that I would need some sort of intervening server that collects mail (using POP3) from all our accounts into a single inbox while preserving the original destination addresses, and then serves it up to all our devices using IMAP. Is this workable? Is it a good approach? Is there an easier way?

  • Exim rejects recipient address on my domain

    - by Nicolas
    Hi, I have a dedicated server (debian) on which I have installed Exim and Dovecot. Everything worked fine until around a month ago. I tried to reinstall and reconfigure exim but I keep having all the incoming emails rejected. Outlook says: A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. • What are the right reverse PTR, domain keys, and SPF settings for two domains running the same appli

    - by James A. Rosen
    I just read Jeff Atwood's recent post on DNS configuration for email and decided to give it a go on my application. I have a web-app that runs on one server under two different IPs and domain names, on both HTTP and HTTPS for each: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName foo.org ServerAlias www.foo.org ... </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 1.2.3.4:443> ServerName foo.org ServerAlias www.foo.org </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName bar.org ServerAlias www.bar.org ... </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 2.3.4.5:443> ServerName bar.org ServerAlias www.bar.org </VirtualHost> I'm using GMail as my SMTP server. Do I need the reverse PTR and SenderID records? If so, do I put the same ones on all of my records (foo.org, www.foo.org, bar.org, www.bar.org, ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM, ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM, ..)? I'm pretty sure I want the domain-keys records, but I'm not sure which domains to attach them to. The Google mail servers? foo.org and bar.org? Everything?

  • E-mail hosting provider that can set up aliases with wildcards

    - by Richard Downer
    I am looking for an e-mail hosting provider that allow e-mail aliases containing wildcards. In more detail: I own my own domain. I want an e-mail hosting provider to manager e-mail for my domain. Now, to help deal with spam, I often give different e-mail addresses to different organisations. These e-mail addresses always start with the same prefix, but then differ. So, for example, I might give out these e-mail addresses: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] I want to be able to go to the e-mail provider's control panel and set up an e-mail alias like this: [email protected] -- bounce/discard (because this address has been sold to spammers) joe-*@sample.com -- redirect to [email protected] What's I don't want to do is either have to set up every single e-mail address individually (because I make them up whenever I need them), nor do I want to have a general catch-all for any unrecognised address in my domain (because I don't want to be carpet-bombed with spam when a spammer runs a dictionary attack against my domain name.) Although this seems like a useful feature to have, it seems to be a little-known feature and I've not seen anybody advertise this feature. My current hosting provider offer this but I want to move away from them, so I need another provider that will continue to work with all the e-mail addresses I've been using for years. Alternatively, I could use mail server software that runs on Windows - I have seen some commercial packages offering this feature but they cost more than I can afford - are there any suggestions for low-cost software packages?

  • How \Deleted flag can be unset for all mails in cyrus-imapd mailbox?

    - by Sachin Divekar
    I have a 5GB mailbox which I moved using imapsync. But somehow I messed up with --delete/--delete2 option and end up with almost all the messages having \Deleted flag set. I do not have delayed expunge enabled, so I can not use unexpunge utility. I am using cyrus-imapd v2.3.7. Using cyrus-imapd's debugging feature I found out that email client(Roundcube in my case) fires following IMAP command to unset it. UID STORE 179 -FLAGS.SILENT (\Deleted) I don't know if somehow I can fire this command for all the mails. Is there any way I can unset \Deleted flag for all the mails in the mailbox? UPDATE: Using @geekosaur's tip of specifying range of message-ids in the above command, I could solve it for one mailbox under INBOX like INBOX.folder1. Is there any way I can do it for multiple mailboxes under INBOX recursively? Now I am working on solving it using/creating some script, maybe using Perl's IMAP related module. But still I need to solve it asap so inputs are welcome.
