  • What's wrong with this jQuery example?

    - by Sven Larson
    The following jQuery example should put some text into the div, but it doesn't. I tried Firefox, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. <html> <head> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js" language="javascript"></script> <script language="javascript"> $(window).load(function() { $('adiv').html('<p>hello world</p>'); alert('done'); }); </script> </head> <body> <div id="adiv"> </div> </body> </html> Sorry, this might be stupid, but I'm stuck.

  • jQuery AJAX get request - cannot see returned data

    - by Wes
    I think I am missing something obvious here, but I can't figure it out. I expect the following HTML to alert a response from the server. But, the alert is empty. I can see in Wireshark that the expected response is coming back to me from the server. Why is it not populated in the data variable? <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script> </head> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> $.get("http://www.geocommunicator.gov/TownshipGeocoder/TownshipGeocoder.asmx/GetTRS", {'Lat': 41, 'Lon': -93, 'Units': 'eDD', 'Datum': ''}, function(data) { alert('data:'+data); }); </script> </body> </html>

  • Loading a CSV file using jQuery GET returns the header but no data

    - by Cees Meijer
    When reading a CSV file from a server using the jQuery 'GET' function I do not get any data. When I look at the code using FireBug I can see the GET request is sent and the return value is '200 OK'. Also I see that the header is returned correctly so the request is definitely made, and data is returned. This is also what I see in Wireshark. Here I see the complete contents of the CSV file is returned as a standard HTTP response. But the actual data is not there in my script. Firebug shows an empty response and the 'success' function is never called. What could be wrong ? <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>New Web Project</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <script src="jquery.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var csvData; $(document).ready(function() { $("#btnGET").click(function() { csvData = $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "http://www.mywebsite.com/data/sample_file.csv", dataType: "text/csv", success: function () { alert("done!"+ csvData.getAllResponseHeaders()) } }); }); }) </script> </head> <body> <h1>New Web Project Page</h1> <button id="btnGET">GET Data</button> </body> </html>

  • Using Ruby on Rails, can a polymorphic database be created in a few steps (with polymorphic associat

    - by Jian Lin
    I thought it could be created in a few steps but it can't yet: rails poly cd poly ruby script/generate scaffold animal name:string obj_type:string obj_id:integer rake:migrate ruby script/generate scaffold human name:string passportNumber:string rake:migrate ruby script/generate scaffold dog name:string registrationNumber:string rake:migrate and now change app/models/animal.rb to: class Animal < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :obj, :polymorphic => true end and run ruby script/server and go to http://localhost:3000 I thought on the server then if I create an Michael, Human, J123456 and then Woofie, Dog, L23456 then the database will have entries in the Dogs table and "Humen" or "Humans" table as well as in the Animals table? But only the Animals table has records, Dogs and "Humen" do not for some reason. Is there some steps missing?

  • Global variables in Javascript across multiple files

    - by Goro
    Hello, A bunch of my JavaScript code is in an external file called helpers.js. Inside the HTML that calls this JavaScript code I find myself in need of knowing if a certain function from helpers.js has been called. I have attempted to create a global variable by defining: var myFunctionTag = true; In global scope both in my HTML code and in helpers.js. Heres what my html code looks like: <html> ... <script type='text/javascript' src='js/helpers.js'></script> ... <script> var myFunctionTag = false; ... //I try to use myFunctionTag here but it is always false, even though it has been se t to 'true' in helpers.js </script> Is what I am trying to do even doable? Thanks,

  • Cloning a selector + all its children in jQuery?

    - by HipHop-opatamus
    I'm having trouble getting the following JQuery script to function properly - its functionality is as follows: 1) Hide the content below each headline 2) Upon clicking a headline, substitute the "#first-post" with the headline + the hidden content below the headline. I can only seem to get the script to clone the headline itself to #first-post, not the headline + the content beneath it. Any idea why? <HTML> <HEAD> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js"></script> </HEAD> <script> $(document).ready( function(){ $('.title').siblings().hide(); $('.title').click( function() { $('#first-post').replaceWith($(this).closest(".comment").clone().attr('id','first-post')); $('html, body').animate({scrollTop:0}, 'fast'); return false; }); }); </script> <BODY> <div id="first-post"> <div class="content"><p>This is a test discussion topic</p> </div> </div> <div class="comment"> <h2 class="title"><a href="#1">1st Post</a></h2> <div class="content"> <p>this is 1st reply to the original post</p> </div> <div class="test">1st post second line</div> </div> <div class="comment"> <h2 class="title"><a href="#2">2nd Post</a></h2> <div class="content"> <p>this is 2nd reply to the original post</p> </div> <div class="test">2nd post second line</div> </div> </div> <div class="comment"> <h2 class="title"><a href="#3">3rd Post</a></h2> <div class="content"> <p>this is 3rd reply to the original post</p> </div> <div class="test">3rd post second line</div> </div> </div> </BODY> </HTML>

  • jQuery Validator's "required" not working when value is set at statup

    - by nandrew
    Hello, I have a problem with jQuery Validator. I want to use "required" property on a text input. It doesn't work when input has set value attribute by HTML code (tested on Firefox (3.5), and on IE 8 - on IE it works a bit better). Story: 1. Page loads; 2. value is cleared; 3. focus is changed. 4. Nothing happens but the error message should be displayed; 5. getting back to the field and typing some characters. 6. changing focus; 7. getting back to the field; 8. clearing the field. 9. Error is displayed even before leaving the field. The HTML code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" > <head> <script src="Web/Scripts/jquery-1.3.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="Web/Scripts/jquery.validate.js" type="text/javascript"></script> </head> <body> <form id="form1"> <input type="text" id="name1" name="name1" value="test" /><br /> <input type="text" /> </form> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { var validator = $("form").validate({ rules: { name1: { required: true, minlength: 2 } }, messages: { name1: "bad name" }, }); }); </script> </body> </html>

  • Execute javascript in PHP

    - by Andreas Bonini
    I'm generating your typical Web 2.0 HTML page with PHP: it contains a lot of <script> tags and javascript code that will substantially change the DOM after the load event. Is there a way to get the final HTML code directly from PHP, without opening the page with any browser? For example, let's say the HTML for the page is (it's just an example): <html> <head> <script>...the jquery library code...</script> <script>$(document).ready(function() { $("body").append("<p>Hi!</p>");</script> </head> <body> </body> </html> This HTML is saved in the $html PHP variable. Now, I want to pass that variable to some function that will return $result = <html>....<body><p>Hi!</p></body></html>. Is this possible?

  • Swapping two jQuery draggable list items not working properly (with jsFiddle example)

    - by Tony_Henrich
    The minimalist working example below swaps the two boxes when box 'one' is dragged and dropped on box 'two'. The problem is that when box 'one' is dropped, its style has 'top' & 'left' values causing it to be placed away from where it should drop. Its class includes 'ui-draggable-dragging'. It seems the top & left values are related to the amount the elements were dragged before the drop. And the dragging was 'interrupted' hence the residual 'ui-draggable-dragging' class? What am I missing to make the swap work seamlessly? full jsfiddle example here <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="includes/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="includes/jquery-ui-1.8.2.custom.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery.fn.swapWith = function(to) { return this.each(function() { var copy_to = $(to).clone(true); var copy_from = $(this).clone(true); $(to).replaceWith(copy_from); $(this).replaceWith(copy_to); }); }; $(document).ready(function() { options = {revert: true}; $("li").draggable(options) $('#wrapper').droppable({ drop: function(event, ui) { $(ui.draggable).swapWith($('#two')); } }); }); </script> </head> <body> <form> <ul id="wrapper"> <li id='one'> <div style="width: 100px; height: 100px; border: 1px solid green"> one<br /></div> </li> <li id='two'> <div style="width: 110px; height: 110px; border: 1px solid red"> two<br /></div> </li> </ul> <br /> </form> </body> </html>

  • Google Maps API 3 How to call initialize without putting it in Body onload

    - by Bex
    Hi I am using the google maps API and have copied the examples and have ended up with a function called "initialize" that is called from the body onload. I am using the maps in a few different user controls, which are placed within content place holders, so the body tag is in the master page. Is there a way of calling initialize directly in the usercontrol rather than having to place an onload on the masterpage? Ideally I want my user control to be a stand alone control that I can just slot into pages without trying to access the master page body onload. I have tried calling the Initialize function from my page load of the user control (by adding a start up script), but the map doesn't appear. Any suggestions? My code: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false">/script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var map; var geocoder; function initialize() { geocoder = new google.maps.Geocoder(); var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(51.8052184317649, -4.965819906250006); var myOptions = { zoom: 8, center: latlng, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP }; map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions); $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/GoogleMapsService.asmx/GetPointers", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "json", beforeSend: function () { $(".loadingData").html("<p>Loading data..</p>"); }, complete: function () { $(".loadingData").html(""); }, cache: true, success: mapPoints, error: onError }); } function onError(xhr, ajaxOptions, thrownError) { alert(xhr.status); alert(xhr.responseText); } function mapPoints(response) { if (response.d != null) { if (response.d.length > 0) { for (var i = 0; i < response.d.length; i++) { plotOnMap(response.d[i].Id, response.d[i].Name, response.d[i].Lat, response.d[i].Long, response.d[i].ShortDesc) } } } } and on my test master page: <body onload="initialize()"> <form runat="server"> <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" EnablePageMethods="true"></asp:ScriptManager> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="MainContent" runat="server"> </asp:ContentPlaceHolder> </form> </body>

  • Add jquery link to returned text...

    - by Jerry
    Hi all I am trying to add two jquery plugins files to my application. When a user triggers my ajax event, the server will return text with a form button. The plugins (a jquery calendar) will work when the user clicks the form button inside the returned text . I believe I have to add the link inside the return text instead of the main page to let the code work, but not sure how to do this. I am giving out my code and need you experts opinions. Thanks. My main page html //required jquery plugins ...didn't work if I add them in the main application. <script type="text/javascript" src="JS/date.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="JS/datePicker.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="JS/selectWeek.js"></script> <div id="gameInfo"> //return text will be displayed here. </div> My returned text ...part of it.... <form> <div id=returnDiv> // the form input will be added here when a user clicks #addMatch button... </div> <tr> <td><input type="button" id="addMatch" name="addMatch" value="Add Match"/> </td> </tr> </form> My jquery $("#addMatch").live('click', function(){ //the code below will create a calender when a user click the link...I am not sure //where I should add my two jquery plugins link... $("#returnDiv").html("<td><input type='text' size='6' class='date-pick dp-applied'"+ "name='date'><a style='color:white;' class='dp-choose-date' title='Choose Date'"+ "href='#'>Date</a></td>"; return false; }); I hope I explain my question well. +1 to any reply...:D

  • ScriptManager duplicates javascript

    - by Andreas
    Hi! I have a usercontrol that can be used in for example a gridview itemtemplate, this means that the control might or might not be on the page at page load. In the case where the control is inside an itemtemplate i will popupate the gridview via asyncronous postbacks (via updatepanels). The control itselfs registrers scriptblocks since it is depending on javascripts. First i used Page.ClientScript.RegistrerClientScriptBlock But this doesn't work on asyncronous postbacks (updatepanels) so i then tried the same using ScriptManager which allows me to registrer scripts on the page after async postbacks. great!. ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock However, ScriptManager (what i know of) does not have the functionallity to see if a script already is on the page, so i will for every postback generate duplicates of the script blocks, this is ofcourse unwanted behaviour. I did a run at Google and found that i can call the Dispose() method of the PageRequestManager can be used, this does work since it clears the scripts and then adding them again (this also solves my issue with removing unused script blocks from removed controls). Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().Dispose() However, ofcourse there is a downside since im posting here :). The Dispose() method disposes the instance on the master page as well which leads to scripts running there will stop to function after an async postback (updateprogress for example). So, is there a way to check if a script already exists on the page using ScriptManager or any other tools, that will prevent me of inserting duplicate scripts? Also, is there a way to remove certain script blocks (when i am removing an item in itemtemplate for example). Big thanks in advance.

  • Twitter @anywhere API problems in firefox only

However, whenever I the page loads in Firefox I receive the following message in an alert window: To set up @anywhere, please provide a client ID Surely if the results are correct in Chrome and IE then everything must be setup correctly? • jQuery Validation Plugin: Packer undefined error?

    - by Rosarch
    I'm using the jQuery validation plugin from bassistance.de. It works fine. From <head>: <script type="text/javascript" src="/static/JQuery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/static/js-lib/jquery.validate.pack.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/static/js-lib/jquery.validate.additional-methods.js"></script> At first, this was the only validation code I had, and it worked: $("form").validate(); $("#form-username").rules("add", { required: true, email: true, }); It was validating this HTML: <form id="form-username-form" action="api/user_of_email" method="get"> <p> <label for="form-username">Email:</label> <input type="text" name="email" id="form-username" /> <input type="submit" value="Submit" id="form-submit" /> </p> </form> Great, everything works. But then I add this JS: $("#form-choose-options input[type='text']").rules("add", { number: true, }); to validate this markup: <form id="form-choose-options" action="api/set_options" method="get"> <p> <label for="form-min-credits">Min credits per term:</label><input type="text" name="min_credits" id="form-min-credits" /> <br /> <label for="form-optimal-credits">Optimal credits per term:</label><input type="text" name="optimal_credits" id="form-optimal-credits" /> <br /> <label for="form-max-credits">Max credits per term:</label><input type="text" name="max_credits" id="form-max-credits" /> <br /> <label for="form-low-GPA">Lowest acceptable GPA:</label><input type="text" name="low_GPA" id="form-low-GPA" /> <br /> <label for="form-high-GPA">Highest realistic GPA:</label><input type="text" name="high_GPA" id="form-high-GPA" /> <br /> <input type="hidden" class="user-pk" name="pk"/> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> </p> </form> This causes a javascript error on document load: $.data(f.form, "validator") is undefined The error is from the packer function. What am I doing wrong?

  • How do I use HTML5's localStorage in a Google Chrome extension?

    - by davidkennedy85
    I am trying to develop an extension that will work with Awesome New Tab Page. I've followed the author's advice to the letter, but it doesn't seem like any of the script I add to my background page is being executed at all. Here's my background page: <script> var info = { poke: 1, width: 1, height: 1, path: "widget.html" } chrome.extension.onRequestExternal.addListener(function(request, sender, sendResponse) { if (request === "mgmiemnjjchgkmgbeljfocdjjnpjnmcg-poke") { chrome.extension.sendRequest( sender.id, { head: "mgmiemnjjchgkmgbeljfocdjjnpjnmcg-pokeback", body: info, } ); } }); function initSelectedTab() { localStorage.setItem("selectedTab", "Something"); } initSelectedTab(); </script> Here is manifest.json: { "update_url": "http://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx", "background_page": "background.html", "name": "Test Widget", "description": "Test widget for mgmiemnjjchgkmgbeljfocdjjnpjnmcg.", "icons": { "128": "icon.png" }, "version": "0.0.1" } Here is the relevant part of widget.html: <script> var selectedTab = localStorage.getItem("selectedTab"); document.write(selectedTab); </script> Every time, the browser just displays null. The local storage isn't being set at all, which makes me think the background page is completely disconnected. Do I have something wired up incorrectly?

  • Accessing variable from ARGV

    - by snaken
    I'm writing a cPanel postwwwact script, if you're not familiar with the script its run after a new account is created. it relies on the user account variable being passed to the script which i then use for various things (creating databases etc). However, I can't seem to find the right way to access the variable i want. I'm not that good with shell scripts so i'd appreciate some advice. I had read somewhere that the value i wanted would be included in $ARGV{'user'} but this simply gives "root" as opposed to the value i need. I've tried looping through all the arguments (list of arguments here) like this: #!/bin/sh for var do touch /root/testvars/$var done and the value i want is in there, i'm just not sure how to accurately target it. There's info here on doing this with PHP or Perl but i have to do this as a shell script. EDIT Ideally i would like to be able to call the variable by something other than $1 or $2 etc as this would create issues if an argument is added or removed Any ideas?

    I'm trying to learn about openDatabase, and I think this I'm getting it to INSERT INTO TABLE1, but I can't verify that the SELECT * FROM TABLE1 is working. <html> <head> <script src="http://www.google.com/jsapi"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> google.load("jquery", "1"); </script> <script type="text/javascript"> var db; $(function(){ db = openDatabase('HelloWorld'); db.transaction( function(transaction) { transaction.executeSql( 'CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS Table1 ' + ' (TableID INTEGER NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT, ' + ' Field1 TEXT NOT NULL );' ); } ); db.transaction( function(transaction) { transaction.executeSql( 'SELECT * FROM Table1;',function (transaction, result) { for (var i=0; i < result.rows.length; i++) { alert('1'); $('body').append(result.rows.item(i)); } }, errorHandler ); } ); $('form').submit(function() { var xxx = $('#xxx').val(); db.transaction( function(transaction) { transaction.executeSql( 'INSERT INTO Table1 (Field1) VALUES (?);', [xxx], function(){ alert('Saved!'); }, errorHandler ); } ); return false; }); }); function errorHandler(transaction, error) { alert('Oops. Error was '+error.message+' (Code '+error.code+')'); transaction.executeSql('INSERT INTO errors (code, message) VALUES (?, ?);', [error.code, error.message]); return false; } </script> </head> <body> <form method="post"> <input name="xxx" id="xxx" /> <p> <input type="submit" name="OK" /> </p> <a href="http://www.google.com">Cancel</a> </form> </body> </html>

  • Error: could not create the Java Virtual Machine. Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit

    - by Gleeson9
    Pre-note: This is not a problem I am having with Minecraft. All answers I can find seem to be Minecraft issues. Error: could not create the Java Virtual Machine. Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit. I get this error when I try to do something Java related. I cannot launch a .jar without this error coming up and when I try to install JDK, I get this error. This has been plauging me for a while and I was not able to research an answer so I thought I would ask it myself. EDIT: Windows 7 (x64) Dell Studio Laptop, 4GB RAM, external Radeon HD 6950 Graphics Card. I have tried uninstalling all JVMs and reinstalling but it didn't work, although I cannot remember how thorough I was so I may try again. Here is a list of all the Java related things I have installed (found in the uninstall or change programs window): Java 3D 1.5.1 Java 3D 1.5.1 (x64) Java 3D 1.5.2 Java 6 Update 30 Java 6 Update 30 (64-bit) Java 7 Update 2 Java 7 Update 3 (64-bit) JavaFX 2.0.3 (64-bit) JavaFX 2.0.3 SDK (64-bit)
