• Java: immutability, overuse of stack -- better data structure?

  I overused hashSets but it was slow, then changed to Stacks, speed boost-up. Poly's reply uses Collections.emptyList() as immutable list, cutting out excess null-checkers. No Collections.emptyStack(). Combining the words stack and immutability, from the last experiences, gets "immutable stack" (probably not related to functional prog). Java Api 5 for list interface shows that Stack is an implementing class for list and arraylist, here. The java.coccurrent pkg does not have any immutable Stack data structure. The first hinted of misusing stack. The lack of immutabily in the last and poly's book recommendation leads way to list. Something very primitive, fast, no extra layers, with methods like emptyThing(). • Html.EditorFor, Html.DisplayFor not working on MVC1.0 -> MVC2.0 manual migration

  Has anyone encountered this problem? I manually migrated a MVC1.0 application to MVC2.0 and everything so far seems to be working fine. Today I wanted to try out the Html.EditorFor helper and it doesn't render the template. I set it up the same way in a fresh MVC2.0 application and the template does render. Is there anything other (or specifically needed when mirgrating to activate this behavior) than throwing the partial view like DateTime.ascx into Views/Shared/EditorTemplates and using the helper methods to render the model objects? I'm stumped.

• Attempting to update multiple partial views from a single Ajax.ActionLink

  I have a a partial view which contains other partial views. I am trying to the main partial view ( "MainPartialView" ) from an Ajax.ActionLink in a partial view contained by the main partial view ( "DetailsView" ). Everything appears to be called just fine and I can step through and it executes all of the code on the pages. However, after that is all done it throws this error in a popup box in visual studio: htmlfile: Unknown runtime error This error puts the break point in the MicrosoftAjax.js file, Line 5, Col 83,632, Ch 83632. Any thoughts? • How do I deploy building blocks (quick parts) for Microsoft Outlook 2007?

  I want to deploy some building blocks for Microsoft Outlook 2007. Microsoft has put up a poor solution at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA102086531033.aspx#4 that asks you to save a template. That solution would require you to distribute that template to all the clients. An optimal solution would allow you to put the template containing the building blocks somewhere on the network and simply use the ”Workgroup building blocks path” group policy setting for shared paths in Microsoft Office 2007. Sadly, Outlook doesn’t respect that policy. Also, the described solution mentioned in the article above doesn’t work. Step 4 requests you to save the template as a Word Template after first asking you to save it as an Outlook Template. It seems that they copy&pasted the steps from the Word article and forgot to check whether it worked (and adjust the steps accordingly). Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions for how to distribute the building blocks without distributing NormalEmail.dotm (which will overwrite the clients’ own building blocks each time it is updated). • Space in search base OU causes error in Active Directory

  Recently, while putting together some code to page Active Directory results beyond sizeLimit=1000, we ran into a strange behavior/bug of AD. Specifically, if we had an OU with a space in the search base, it caused an error: String base = "OU=Area X,OU=myserver,DC=my,DC=ad,DC=myserver,DC=com"; env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ldap://my.ad.myserver.com:389/" + base); This is the error we received: javax.naming.NamingException: [LDAP: error code 1 - 000020D6: SvcErr: DSID-031007DB, problem 5012 (DIR_ERROR), data 0 When we remove that OU, it works fine. What would cause this to occur? Do we need to encode the space somehow (+ and %20 only caused more issues)? Or is this generally illegal/unnecessary?

• Rendering WPF DrawingGroup to single ImageSource

  Currently I'm using a System.Windows.Media.DrawingGroup to store some tiled images (ImageDrawing) inside the Children-DrawingCollection property. Well the problem is now, this method gets really slow if you display the entire DrawingGroup in an Image control, because my DrawingGroup can contain hundreds or even thousands of small images it can really mess up the performance. So my first thought was to somehow render a single image from all the small ones inside the DrawingGroup and then only display that image, that would be much faster. But as you might have figured out I haven't found any solution so simply combine several images with WPF Imaging. It would really be great if someone could help with this problem or tell me how i can improve the performance with the DrawingGroup or even use another approach. One last thing, currently I'm using a RenderTargetBitmap to generate a single BitmapSource from the DrawingGroup, this approach isn't really faster, but it makes the scrolling and working on the Image control at least a little smoother.

• Visual Studio 2010 and CrystalReports

  I have a dll build with target framework 3.5 that manage reports; this dll use the version 10.5.3700.0 of CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine Now, I have created a new wpf application based on .NET framework 4.0 and I added the report dll reference to project. I had to install the Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 library (http://www.businessobjects.com/jump/xi/crvs2010/default.asp) to build the application without errors...now it builds success, but the report print don't work. It's generate an error when set datasource...the message is: Unknown Query Engine Error Error in File C:\DOCUME~1\oli15\IMPOST~1\Temp\MyReport {4E514D0E-FC2C-4440-9B3C-11D2CA74895A}.rpt: ... Source=Analysis Server ErrorCode=-2147482942 StackTrace: at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.DatabaseControllerClass.ReplaceConnection(Object oldConnection, Object newConnection, Object parameterFields, Object crDBOptionUseDefault) at CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Table.SetDataSource(Object val, Type type) at CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument.SetDataSourceInternal(Object val, Type type) I think that it use a different version reference for CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine, it's possible?   Hi all, I try to explain my problem, because I really need your help. I have a <div contenteditable=true> where I define by a WYSIWYG some elements. For example <p>,<h1>, etc. I would like to put directly the focus on one of this elements. For example on <p id="p_test">. But it seems that focus() function doesn't work on <div> elements, <p> elements... Is there a another means to define the focus in my case ? Thank you very much for your help !

• Unable to set maxReceivedMessageSize through web.config

  Hello there, I have now investigated the 400 - BadRequest code for the last two hours. A lot of sugestions goes towards ensuring the bindingConfiguration attribute is set correctly, and in my case, it is. Now, I need YOUR help before destroying the building i am in :-) I run a WCF RestFull service (very lightweight, using this resource for inspiration: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dd315413.aspx) which (for now) accepts an XmlElement (POX) provided through the POST verb. I am currently ONLY using Fiddler's request builder before implementing a true client (as this is mixed environments). When I do this for XML smaller than 65K, it works fine - larger, it throws this exception: The maximum message size quota for incoming messages (65536) has been exceeded. To increase the quota, use the MaxReceivedMessageSize property on the appropriate binding element. • Exception converting Office files to PDF using ABCpdf.NET onWindows Server 2008

  Has anyone delt with this exception from ABCpdf? We're running on Server 2008 and only have issues converting Office files (Word and Excel). This all worked well on Server 2003. Because we're only having issues with Office files I wonder if it's related to the XPS support on Server 2008? The code that calls into this function is running as a Windows Service. • HTMLUNIT Facebook javascript warning

  Hi I am trying to create simple application that would be able to search people on facebook using given e-mail. I am already able to log into an account using the HTMLunit tool and even create a page, which should throw result of my search. But when I try to print the result as XML the file is missing some blocks of javascript results (I can tell that they are missing by comparing file created by my application and source code, that can be viewed by using IE) Is there any way around this? I just need to get the same result IE's showsource function does. Thanks a lot.   I'm trying to create a Cocoa framework by using a cross-project reference in Xcode. I have 2 projects: one for the framework; one for the application that will use the framework. This framework is not intended to be stored within the system; it is an embedded framework that lives within the application bundle. I have successfully made the cross-project reference, marked the framework as being a dependency of my target, added a Copy Files build phase that puts the framework in Contents/Frameworks/ and added the framework to the linker phase (I checked the little "Target" checkbox; I've also done it manually by dragging the framework into the linker phase). My framework's install directory is correctly set to @executable_path/../Frameworks. However, when I try to build my app it: a) Correctly builds the framework first b) Correctly copies the framework c) Errors because it cannot find the master header file in my framework I have verified that the header is there. I can see it in the app product that is partially built. ls build/Debug/CioccolataTest.webapp/Contents/Frameworks/Cioccolata.framework/Headers/Cioccolata.h build/Debug/CioccolataTest.webapp/Contents/Frameworks/Cioccolata.framework/Headers/Cioccolata.h I have been able to successfully build the app by copying my framework into /Library/Frameworks (I can then delete it again after the successful build), but this is a workaround, I'm looking to find it out why Xcode doesn't find the framework's master header file without it being copied to a system directory. Is copying it to the app bundle during the build not sufficient?   I know this topic has been asked, but the posts are all out of date, or not functional on IE8. In brief we basically want to do the excel style locking of column headers in a GridView. I have seen a couple of solutions one jquery+ css(setExpression) which doesn't work in IE8. And another that uses ajax extensions, yet again doesn't work in IE8.   I apologize if this question is slightly subjective... I am trying to figure out the best way to test Rails 3 Engines with Cucumber & Rspec. In order to test the engine a rails 3 app is necessary. Here is what I am currently doing: Add a rails test app to the root of the gem (myengine) by running: rails new /myengine/rails_app Add Cucumber to /myengine/rails_app/features as you would in a normal Rails app Require the Rails Engine Gem (using :path=>"/myengine") in /myengine/rails_app/Gemfile Add spec to the root directory of the gem: /myengine/spec Include the fixtures in /myengine/spec/fixtures and I add the following to my cuc env.rb: env.rb: Fixtures.reset_cache fixtures_folder = File.join(Rails.root, 'spec', 'fixtures') fixtures = Dir[File.join(fixtures_folder, '*.yml')].map {|f| File.basename(f, '.yml') } Fixtures.create_fixtures(fixtures_folder, fixtures) Do you see any problems with setting it up like this? The tests run fine, but I am a bit hesitant to put the features inside the test rails app. I originally tried putting the features in the root of the gem and I created the test rails app inside features/support, but for some reason my engine would not initialize when I ran the tests, even though I could see the app loading everything else when cuc ran. If anyone is working with Rails Engines and is using cuc and rspec for testing, I would be interested to hear your setup.

  I want to get data from mysql database with the help of DataImportHandler so i can create indexes. Now I've configured my Solr instance so that it works on Tomcat (the example admin page), but if I try to change the sorlconfig.xml file i'll get the error message. Do i need to specify more jar files? Did i put jar files in the correct directory? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
