• Zelda-style top-down RPG. How to store tile and collision data?

  I'm looking to build a Zelda: LTTP style top-down RPG. I've read a lot on the subject and am currently going back and forth on a few solutions. I'm using C#, MonoGame, and Tiled. For my tile maps, these are the choices I can see in front of me: Store each tile as its own array. Each one having 3-4 layers, texture/animation, depth, flags, and maybe collision(depending on how I do it). I've read warning about memory issues going this route, and my biggest map will probably be 160x120 tiles. My average map however will be about 40x30. The number of tiles might cut in half if I decide to double my tile size, which is currently 16x16. This is the most appealing approach for me, as I feel like I would know how to save maps, make changes, and separate it into chunks for collision checks. Store the static parts of my tile map in multiple arrays acting as the different layers. Then I would just use entities for anything that wasn't static. All of the other tile data such as collisions, depth, etc., would be stored in their own layers as well I guess? This way just seems messy to me though. Regardless of which one I choose, I'm also unsure how to plan all of that other tile data. I could write a bunch of code that would know which integer represents what tile and it's data, but if I changed a tileset in Tiled and exported it again, all of those integers could potentially change and I'd have to adjust a whole bunch of code. My other issue is about how I could do collision. I want to at least support angled collision that slides you around the corners of objects like LTTP does, if not more oddball shapes as well. So do I: Store collision as a flag for binary collision. Could I get this to support angles? Would it be fine to store collision as an integer and have each number represent a certain angle of collision? Store a list of rectangles or other shapes and do collision that way? Sorry for the large two-part(three-part?) question. I felt like these needed to be asked together as I believe each choice influences the other.

I'm trying to make a php Curl call from a script located on that server, to the 30.x.x.x external IP of that server but the curl call cannot be resolved. It seems that server A does not have a route to that IP. Did you encounter any similar situations? Any chance to solve it through static routes?

• XNA 4.0: 2D Camera Y and X are going in wrong direction

  I asked this question on stackoverflow but assumed this might be a better area to ask it as well for a more informed answer. My problem is that I am trying to create a camera class and have it so that my camera follows the proper RHS, however the Y axis seems to be inverted since on the screen the 0 starts at the top. • Problem setting up Master-Master Replication in MySQL

  I am attempting to setup Master-Master Replication on two MySQL database servers. I have followed the steps in this guide, but it fails in the middle of Step 4 with SHOW MASTER STATUS; It simply returns an empty set. I get the same 3 errors in both servers' logs. MySQL errors on SQL1: [ERROR] Failed to open the relay log './sql1-relay-bin.000001' (relay_log_pos 4) [ERROR] Could not find target log during relay log initialization [ERROR] Failed to initialize the master info structure MySQL Errors on SQL2: [ERROR] Failed to open the relay log './sql2-relay-bin.000001' (relay_log_pos 4) [ERROR] Could not find target log during relay log initialization [ERROR] Failed to initialize the master info structure The errors make no sense because I'm not referencing those files in any of my configurations. I'm using Ubuntu Server 10.04 x64 and my configuration files are copied below. I don't know where to go from here or how to troubleshoot this. Please help.   I thought I had my postfix configuration all set up on my Amazon Ubuntu server but I guess not. I'm trying to set up an admin email account for 3 virtually hosted Apache websites. • JSF Portlets in Liferay on JBoss

  I'm currently looking at working with and deploying JSF portlets into Liferay 6.0.5, sitting on JBoss 5.1.0. I ran into a lot of trouble trying to port some JSF-y/Seam-y/EJB-y stuff I had lying around, so I thought I'd start simple and work my way up. I could generate generic portlets using the NetBeans Maven archetype for Liferay portlets absolutely fine, but it's rather irrelevant because I wanted JSF portlets I took an example JSF portlet from http://www.liferay.com/downloads/liferay-portal/community-plugins/-/software_catalog/products/5546866 and attempted to deploy into a clean, vanilla installation of Liferay 6.0.5/JBoss 5.1.0 to no avail. The log messages are reproduced at the end of this. This particular example was actually tested for GlassFish and Tomcat, so it's not particularly helpful considering I'm deplying into JBoss. • PHP-APC Installation

  Trying to get my head around the way to install APC cache on PHP 5.3.13. That's a VPS with apache, configured preferably through whm/cpanel (although not only). I read a bunch of articles where it was suggested to use FastCGI with APC, as suPHP doens't do well with opcode caching, and fcgid_module doesn't do it right for APC either. Noted that fcgid_module is a newer package than FastCGI and that's what whm/cpanel installs for you but ok, that can be solved I guess. Then I'm reading that php-fpm is a much better alternative to manage the php processes, especially for APC. Ok. Then I realised that php-fpm is included in php core since 5.3 and got confused. Does that mean I don't have to use FastCGI/fcgid_module (and what should I use instead of them - mod_php or cgi?)? Or does that mean that I still need to get the older FastCGI module, and configure it to use one process per user (or just one process?)? Or would fcgid_module work as well? And how bad would it be just to go with mod_php/APC to avoid troubles of installing php-fpm and FastCGI (whm/cpanel doesn't support neither) given than Varnish would serve most of the static content anyway - no php process need to be created for static content. Any examples of their FastCGI/fcgid_module/php-fpm/APC configurations would be greatly appreciated as well.

  I'm creating a cell profile on Linux Mint 12 , WAS 8.0 Network Deployment Trial. But using manageProfiles.sh or Profile Management Tool, I can not create any profile (cell, application ...). • Windows Audio Issue

  This one is driving me nuts. Hoping someone can shed some light. I'm running windows 7 using onboard audio. It's been fine for over 2 years but lately there's a problem every time I play audio. I hear a small soft burst of static and the volume turns itself down from 50% to 23%. Once at 23%, it plays fine. No related events logged in viewer. No reported problems with the device. Different headphones, same problem. I played around with audio settings for hours but the problem persists. Virus scans are clear as well. The static burst is irritating to say the least. Tried 2 different headphones and separate speakers. Same problem. I know it's not an easy problem but I was hoping someone had encountered the same thing.

  i had a previously working configuration with the config files used in a previous question However, i've changed this now to the following configuration using server mode, everything on the logs seem fine, however the client doesn't create any tun interface, so i don't have anything to connect to, presumably, i need to add or push some route commands, but i don't have any idea at this point what i need to do. • My computer loses network connectivity every 30 minutes

  My LAN connected PC loses network connectivity every 30 minutes. It has a static IP address and I've checked to make sure there aren't any IP conflicts on my network. If I'm streaming from that PC to my Xbox the stream will be interrupted and it normally takes about a minute to come back online. The same happens if I'm actually on the PC and just browsing the web. I'm looking for suggestions on how to track down this issue. I've tried checking the available logs on my router to see if there is an issue with DCHP but have been unsuccessful in finding any evidence. Any suggestions would be helpful. I can't think of any recent changes to my network, PC or software installations that may have caused this. I am a software developer and have intermediate networking knowledge. EDIT: During one outage I told windows to troubleshoot the network problem and it said that it could automatically fix the problem by changing DCHP info. It basically said my network adapter from static to automatically obtain. This did fix the issue quicker than just waiting it out, but the outage occurred again 30 minutes later even when leaving those settings.

• Migrating from "partial" Exchange 2003 to full Exchange 2003 usability

  I have a client that is using Exchange 2003 on SBS 2003 R2, but only for calendar sharing and contacts sharing. Their email is still coming to their clients via a POP3 account on each client's Outlook. I'd like to move them over to using Exchange for both email and the other things they are utilizing it for now. Can you folks guide me in the right direction? The setup: external domain is akin to domain.com (and is where they get their POP3 email from now) internal domain is akin to domain.local only simple hardware firewall (no ISA) static external IP is available to use My "assumptions": Setup SMTP default connector in Exchange for their existing external domain Have their existing email backed up to PST files (just in case) Setup the new MX records to point domain.com to the static external IP I'm a little confused how I'm going to setup their existing Exchange accounts with the proper SMTP address though. Right now it is just [email protected]. Do I just need to modify or create a new recipient policy? Are there other steps involved that I'm missing? Anyone with a walkthrough or even a basic "steps" is fine. I'm fairly used to Exchange 03, but I've been on Exchange 07 for a while now so going back is the weird part...plus I don't know what issues Exchange 03 on SBS has versus the normal "version". • SQL Server 2008 R2 transactional replication over VPN

  I'm having difficulty setting up replication over a VPN. I have a SQL Server 2008 R2, Enterprise Edition database on a Windows 2008 R2 Server. SQL Server is running on a non-standard port. I have set it up so that it is acting as its own distributor and have configured a publisher on this server. It is set as an updatable transational publication (yes, this is necessary). On this server, I have Routing and Remote Access enabled in order to be able to establish VPN connections. It is configured with a static IP address pool, of which the first in the range is always assigned to the server. I have assigned a test user a static address within this range (I don't know if this is necessary or not). All clients will be 2008 R2 versions, but could be SQL Express or standalone developer instances of the full product. I can establish a VPN connection from the client without problems and can see that the correct IP addresses are allocated. After connecting to the database to test that I can establish a connection, I realised that I needed to be able to connect to the database using the server name rather than an IP address - required for replication - which wouldn't work initially. I created an entry in the hosts file for the server on the client using the NETBIOS name of the server, and now I can connect to the server, from the client, using the SERVER\INSTANCE, PORT syntax, over the VPN. As it is the default instance on the server, I can also connect with simply SERVER, PORT syntax. After all that, I still get the following dreaded error: SQL Server replication requires the actual server name to make a connection to the server. Connections through a server alias, IP address, or any other alternate name are not supported. Specify the actual server name, 'SERVER\INSTANCE'. (Replication.Utilities). What have I missed? How do I get this to work? TIA
