  • Detecting if a file is binary or plain text?

    - by dr. evil
How can I detect if a file is binary or a plain text? Basically my .NET app is processing batch files and extracting data however I don't want to process binary files. As a solution I'm thinking about analysing first X bytes of the file and if there are more unprintable characters than printable characters it should be binary. Is this the right way to do it? Is there nay better implementation for this task?

  • Android - Help needed with designing a screen with either table layout or list views

    - by A. Cusano
I am currently developing an android app that is to be a counterpart to its sister iphone prototype. My task is to recreate the screen from a design mockup from the iphone app in android, as shown here (can't display an image as a new user - sorry!): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v439/thrawn891/iphone.jpg What would be the best layouts / views to use for replicating this screen in an activity? Thanks.

  • ADO.NET DataService Exception

    - by Ravi
Hi, I am working on C#.Net with ADO.NET Dataservice. I try to update one record to relational tabel, when I reach context.SetLink() I am getting exception("The context is not currently tracking the entity"). I don't know how to solve this problem. My code is specified below. LogNote dbLogNote =logNote; LogSubSession dbLogSubSession = (from p in context.LogSubSession where p.UID == logNote.SubSessionId select p).First<LogSubSession>() as LogSubSession; context.AddToLogNote(dbLogNote); dbLogNote.LogSubSession = dbLogSubSession; context.SetLink(dbLogNote, "LogSubSession", dbLogSubSession); context.SaveChanges(); Here LogSubSession is a primary table and LogNote is a foreign table. I am updating data into foreign table based on primary key table. Thanks

  • c++ Sorting a vector based on values of other vector, or what's faster?

    - by pollux
Hi, There are a couple of other posts about sorting a vector A based on values in another vector B. Most of the other answers tell to create a struct or a class to combine the values into one object and use std::sort. Though I'm curious about the performance of such solutions as I need to optimize code which implements bubble sort to sort these two vectors. I'm thinking to use a vector<pair<int, int>> and sort that. I'm working on a blob-tracking application (image analysis) where I try to match previously tracked blobs against newly detected blobs in video frames where I check each of the frames against a couple of previously tracked frames and of course the blobs I found in previous frames. I'm doing this at 60 times per second (speed of my webcam). Any advice on optimizing this is appreciated. The code I'm trying to optimize can be shown here: http://code.google.com/p/projectknave/source/browse/trunk/knaveAddons/ofxBlobTracker/ofCvBlobTracker.cpp?spec=svn313&r=313 Thanks

  • Scrum and requirements

    - by Mel
You can just have user stories somehow the functionality of the program has to be documented. Do you end up with a specifications document with scrum? If you do do you end up assigning time to do this onto the task?

  • find: What's up with basename and dirname?

    - by temp2290
I'm using find for a task and I noticed that when I do something like this: find `pwd` -name "file.ext" -exec echo $(dirname {}) \; it will give you dots only for each match. When you s/dirname/basename in that command you get the full pathnames. Am I screwing something up here or is this expected behavior? I'm used to basename giving you the name of the file (in this case "file.ext") and dirname giving you the rest of the path.

  • How to get last 12 digits from a string in MySQL?

    - by Nick Gorbikoff
Hello. How would I get last 12 digits of a string using mysql? Let's say I have a varchar field with a tracking number, that may be anywhere from 5 to 20 varchars long. But I only need to select last 12 digits or less if there are less. so in a field = 12345678123456789012 I would only need to get what's in brackets field = 12345678[123456789012] I saw a few examples using mid, etc, but they dont' produce the desired result or I can't find an example that makes sense :-( Thank you.

    - by Andrea
I have to create a bunch of these "Share this on" Technorati, Digg, Facebook, Reddit, del.icio.us, StumbleUpon, MySpace and so on. It is very easy to find online icons for this task, but it is a little more difficult to find what URLs I should link. Is there any updated list of all these services? Of course I could copy them from other sites having this, but I am not sure they are updated, and moreover maybe there is some GET parameter I want to set differently.

  • asp.net: moving from session variables to cookies

    - by P a u l
My forms are losing session variables on shared hosting very quickly (webhost4life), and I think I want to replace them with cookies. Does the following look reasonable for tracking an ID from form to form: if(Request.Cookies["currentForm"] == null) return; projectID = new Guid(Request.Cookies["currentForm"]["selectedProjectID"]); Response.Cookies["currentForm"]["selectedProjectID"] = Request.Cookies["currentForm"]["selectedProjectID"]; Note that I am setting the Response cookie in all the forms after I read the Request cookie. Is this necessary? Do the Request cookies copy to the Response automatically? I'm setting no properties on the cookies and create them this way: Response.Cookies["currentForm"]["selectedProjectID"] = someGuid.ToString(); The intention is that these are temporary header cookies, not persisted on the client any longer than the browser session. I ask this since I don't often write websites.

  • Should i use partial classes as business layer when using entity framework?

    - by samsur
I am working on a project using entity framework. Is it okay to use partial classes of the EF generated classes as the business layer. I am begining to think that this is how EF is intended to be used. I have attempted to use a DTO pattern and soon realized that i am just creating a bunch of mapping classes that is duplicating my effort and also a cause for more maintenance work and an additional layer. I want to use self-tracking-entities and pass the EF entities to all the layers. Please share your thoughts and ideas. Thanks

  • Build model with nested model in rspec integration test

    - by user1116573
I understand that I can do something like in rspec: let(:project) { Project.new } but in my app a project accepts_nested_attributes_for tasks and when I generate the Project form I build a task along with it using: @project = Project.new @project.tasks.build I need something like: let(:project) { Project.new.tasks.build } but that doesn't seem to work. How can I do this as a let in my rspec test?

  • Where are good examples of Web applications built for skilled and intense use?

    - by ProfK
I have spent most of my development career writing backend code, or front-end apps for used as daily business tools, by at least semi-skilled staff, e.g. order-tracking, sales capture, etc. That those I helped build peformed their tasks well is comfort enough, but I am still seeking excellence in the building of these kind of apps, versus the more trendy emphasis on slow and sensual interpersonal relationships with the UI. Can anyone recommend reading on this type of application (LOB?) on the web today? Any available examples to study?

  • How to test if table was updated in Zend Framework?

    - by AD
When user opens a form to modify a record, but instead of changing information, he just clicks the Update button. Which causes the update() function to return 0. However, I consider this case a valid update task. How would I test it, so I can assign a success message? Is update() returns -1 when SQL query failed or also 0? Method: Zend_Db_Table_Abstract::update() Any ideas? Thanks

  • Finding existing tickets before opening new ones on trac

    - by Jens Jansson
We're using Trac as the task management tool at the project we work in. However, Trac search is maybe not the most intuitive search out there, and we end up having multiple duplicates as the reporters can't effectively find if there already is a reported ticket of the question he or she found. Stack Overflow's "Related Questions" concept is great and works magnificently! I was wondering if someone has heard of some similar plugin to Trac, or if you have solved this problem some other way.

  • Trying to get around this Webservice call from Android using AsycTask

    - by Kevin Rave
    I am a fairly beginner in Android Development. I am developing an application that extensively relays on Webservice calls. First screen takes username and password and validates the user by calling the Webservice. If U/P is valid, then I need to fire up the 2nd activity. In that 2nd activity, I need to do 3 calls. But I haven't gotten to the 2nd part yet. In fact, I haven't completed the full coding yet. But I wanted to test if the app is working as far as I've come through. When calling webserivce, I am showing alert dialog. But the app is crashing somewhere. The LoginActivity shows up. When I enter U/P and press Login Button, it crashes. My classes: TaskHandler.java public class TaskHandler { private String URL; private User userObj; private String results; private JSONDownloaderTask task; ; public TaskHandler( String url, User user) { this.URL = url; this.userObj = user; } public String handleTask() { Log.d("Two", "In the function"); task = new JSONDownloaderTask(); Log.d("Three", "In the function"); task.execute(URL); return results; } private class JSONDownloaderTask extends AsyncTask<String, Void, String> { private String username;// = userObj.getUsername(); private String password; //= userObj.getPassword(); public HttpStatus status_code; public JSONDownloaderTask() { Log.d("con", "Success"); this.username = userObj.getUsername(); this.password = userObj.getPassword(); Log.d("User" + this.username , " Pass" + this.password); } private AsyncProgressActivity progressbar = new AsyncProgressActivity(); @Override protected void onPreExecute() { progressbar.showLoadingProgressDialog();
