  • Background processing in Rails

    A certain function in my controller takes a lot of time to process (heavy db work) . So when my user clicks on "submit" on the form he has to wait for the process to complete which is quite long. Is there any way that on "submitting", the user is redirected to the next view without any delay while the processing continues in the back-end without making the user wait ? Thanks & Cheers !

    Hi, I need to implement the Win2k3 password validation policy. As my application resides on Win2k3 cane we validate the password directly with windows domain password by using LDAP. This is because application design does not want to store 8/more password entry into DB and validate new password against that. As Windows already does same thing and using LDAP we can lookup into windows server. Can any one please let me know LDAP API to fulfill above requirement in VC++.

  • CursorLoader, get URI for local database

    I'm a newbie android programmer and I recently followed a tutorial which shows how to create a local SQLite database by using SQLiteDatabase.rawQuery to return a Cursor. I would like to modify my app to use CursorLoader which is apparently a better way to access the database. My problem is the CursorLoader constructor expects a URI to be given. Do I just input "file:///[path to db]"? Seems a bit messy.

    Hi, In order to avoid freezing of GUI, I wanted to run method connecting to DB asynchronously. Therefore I have written this: DelegatLoginu dl = ConnectDB; IAsyncResult ar=dl.BeginInvoke(null, null); bool result = (bool)dl.EndInvoke(ar); But it is still freezing and I do not understand why - I though BeginInvoke assures that method it references is run in another thread.     I'm writing a data driven WPF client. The client will typically pull data from a WCF service, which queries a SQL db, but I'd like the option to pull the data directly from SQL or other arbitrary data sources. I've come up with this design and would like to hear your opinion on whether it is the best design. First, we have some data object we'd like to extract from SQL. // The Data Object with a single property public class Customer { private string m_Name = string.Empty; public string Name { get { return m_Name; } set { m_Name = value;} } } Then I plan on using an interface which all data access layers should implement. Suppose one could also use an abstract class. Thoughts? // The interface with a single method interface ICustomerFacade { List<Customer> GetAll(); } One can create a SQL implementation. // Sql Implementation public class SqlCustomrFacade : ICustomerFacade { public List<Customer> GetAll() { // Query SQL db and return something useful // ... return new List<Customer>(); } } We can also create a WCF implementation. The problem with WCF is is that it doesn't use the same data object. It creates its own local version, so we would have to copy the details over somehow. I suppose one could use reflection to copy the values of similar fields across.     Hi All, How can we set permissions for users to only allow them to download SSIS packages from the production server and but deny them permissions to run any package in the Server. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms141053(SQL.90).aspx If i assign users to any of the DB roles db_dtsadmin, db_dtsltduser, and db_dtsoperator they will automatically have permission to run the package.
